    Very sound advice, especially regards buying yer first horse. Green rider + green horse = black and blue

    Hello my name is Therren McCray and I seriously enjoy watching your videos, I’m wanting to rope off a horse but honestly don’t know how to start a horse. I train horses mustangs and a few quarter horses in my past and I live in New Mexico on the Navajo reservation.

      I just started and the best advice I have for you is learn how to rope on the ground first. Then learn how to ride. Then put both together when you’re comfortable. Be patient it takes time!

    Never buy a green horse.....bay, sorrel, gray, buckskin, chestnut, grulla, paint or roan are all better than green.......lol.

      😂😂 so true! Green doesn’t mean money when it comes to horses.

    So I've recently been hired on to a livestock company and I'm trying to be as useful as possible. I have previous horse and gentle riding experience but am wanting to take it to the next level. I've been doing cattle processing but would really like to get horseback and help with gathering and branding aside from being on the ground giving shots. Thinking about going and buying my first rope tomorrow and to begin teaching myself how to rope. Any advice?

    • @BarrettHouser
      @BarrettHouser  7 місяців тому +2

      Any rope will work at this time. Just depends on if you want a head rope, heel rope or ranch rope. Good luck.

      @@BarrettHouser Thanks! I ended up getting a King 5/8 35' ranch rope. I figured since most of what we do is branding and doctoring and all that it wouldn't make much sense to get a dedicated head or heel rope just yet when I'm still learning how to swing it haha
      Any suggestions for a cheap way to do a roping dummy? I've seen a few on saw horses and PVC pipe but not sure what I really need to be completely honest.
