I bought an 07 Sporty 1200C from a buddy of mine a few years back and absolutely LOVE that bike.. But it's been sitting for the last 2.5yrs so it's going to be a major pain getting back up an going again
Whats up man im from Connecticut ill be in port orange florida this wednesday the 16th and will be down there for about a month my birthday was the 4th and love the channel i wanted to ask you if you want to sell that 883?? I wasent sure how else to get ahold of you but yeah i would like to buy my first harley from you thought that would be pretty cool
Coming into this majorly late, but am picking up an '03 1200 Sportster, and a guide like this is INVALUABLE in terms of providing a straight-forward, no crap, inspect-and-replace, if-this-is-what-you-get-this-is-what-you-need checklist. Love your videos, and please continue providing the motorcycling community with these insightful commentaries. Thank you.😀
Your 8-10 weeks late for me. Just bought my first Sporty. Bought it from a bike shop. Love at first sight, I didn't do any of this, I knew I was going in deep. Had the beginnings of where I wanted to go with her. 04' 1200c, raked wide glide front, full chrome dress & custom wheels. Switched out the drag bars for a set of 12" bars and a bunch of other stuff. Been working on her ever since, a labor of love. Found a pic of the her and Joe (the original owner) holding a trophy. Her name is 'Josie' now.
I like that you explain things in detail because it does help the viewers. I watch a lot of your how to videos an I have to say yours are much better than others on UA-cam. Very helpful
This came at the perfect time...I'm getting my first ever bike soon and I'm dead set on a 883. I've been scouting potential bikes and this video is gonna help alot. Especially if you don't know what to look for like me.
BUY A 1200!!! Even for your first bike, 1200s aren't much bigger. I promise you'll outgrow the 883 in 6 months and want bigger and be stuck with a note. Everybody told me not to buy an 883 and I did it anyway and regret it lol.
Get the 48 with the 1200 instead. Same frame with more power and better styling in my opinion (except for the dinky 2.2 gallon peanut tank... looks great but sucks on the road especially where I ride a 2020 Street Glide Special with a 6 gallon tank so if that is an issue for you then definitely go with the 1200 Iron). My wife just traded her 2016 48 in because she outgrew it and now is riding a 2018 Deluxe with the M8 107. You'll outgrow an 883 faster than my wife outgrew her 1200.
Nice ‘garage find’ in better than typical condition. Usually, the gas is bad and tank is in rough shape. As you said, you have to find all the little things that add up in repair bills fast. If you can’t do the repairs yourself, it can run into some serious money. Thanks for this overview of the process. Ride safe!
Like the vid. I just bought a 1992 Sportster 883 last year..... (First Harley) Plus! all the electronics worked great, brake & turn Hi & low beam and indicators all worked. And it had new tires!
I live in the UK and this helped buying my recent small project. Not a Harley but rather a Suzuki Bandit 600 '97 MK1, absolute beauty. Using the tips in the videos, I was happy to pay what he was asking.
3 used HDs so far, 883XL (great bike no probs) 1200XL (shouldn't have trusted a guy that told me he stunted every bike but the Sporty) Dyna Fat Bob 103" (awesome bike, old man owned, very low miles, old folks take care of their stuff). 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
i was watching this guy YEARSSS before i bought my first bike few years back, i got my first bike, he taught me to ride and all that, great videos, great advice, great channel, great guy. stay safe out there. 2 wheels down brother!
I would highly suggest checking and adjusting tire pressure BEFORE the test ride. Especially on such old tires. If one gives out on you could literally kill you. The most important safety feature aside from brakes IMO.
Great video , I’m 66& looking to buy my 3rd Harley! Probably going to be around 10years old with low miles! Just a matter of putting in the time , usually after I’ve seen at least 4-6 bikes I’ll find what I’m looking for! Stay Safe!
Im a sportbike guy. I got an R3 as a first motorcycle. The 2020+ HD Low Rider S is literally calling me. I need to sit on both a HD LRS and the new Chief Dark Horse. I will own one within a year and I cant wait.
Great refresher video for generic bike check for any bike, not just a Harley. Especially useful if your bike has been sitting for a while (lots of us old guys can go months without riding). Thanks.
Look at your bars! The cables from the controls are coming out between the levers and the grips which caused my 2011 Harley I bought used to blow fuses in the fuse box and had to drive home in the dark with no lights. One of the first things I had to replace and address when I got mine.
Awesome brother! Just bought my first Iron 883 2011 from a friend for a great deal… almost a steal 😅 looking forward to make a build following your guidance 🔥👌🏼
I’m 18. I’ve been interested in bikes for about 2 years. Definitely wouldn’t call myself a professional or anything like that but the aesthetics of a cruiser is great. The bike in this video is one I would absolutely love to get
Man! I love watching your videos they are so intuitive and educational I'm really looking for my first bike and after watching your videos for so long that I have made my mind up ots the 883!
Always check inside the tank for rust. When looking at a running bike. Be sure when you show up the bike isn't warm from being ran. If so chances are owner warmed it up to hide something.
In iraq we just be thankful for the presence of Tires, battery and gasoline. Even if were old it's like we have to use what we got. Great video thank you for sharing
So I learned some things in this vid. I have a 2015 iron that has set for a while now and ive changed the gas and oil out battery as well fixing to replace the plugs before I look into the fuel injection system. I fill like this is going to be more expensive lol
Thanks for the vid Blockhead !!,Last used bike I bought was back in the late 90s,It was a 97 Ninja ZX7R,I'm older now so I'm looking at purchasing 2016-2019 XL 1200,I also wanted to say Thanks to your channel I decided to get back into riding 19+ years ago I fell off the horse back in 2000 from a Gnarly Streetbike accident, but am now ready to get back on an American horse this time,Lol .Thanks again for all the informative vids Block !!!
Gas with ethanol is good for 5 months. No need to use a fuel stabilizer if running the gas out within 5 months. Obviously gas will last longer if there's no ethanol in it.
Thx so much,,I'm in australia,,curious on power and other things,,,the bikes sound awesome...just so hard to find one that fits my height,,im 192cm ,,,with bad back,,,,wish I was near your shop,,love your videos ,,learning so much,,cool as
I know where your coming from with the "to many projects" quote i have the 1200 iron thats not really a prodject. The 82 xj1100 and an 85 venture that needs some love
i am not claiming that you are wrong BUT, from my personal experience, here in Fayetteville NC I use ethanol gas cuz its cheaper, and Ive left the gas sitting in jerrycans, in the motorcycle over the winter, in the suv whenever we go on 2-3 month vacations, and I have literally never had issues with the gas gumming up. I use to have a very old chevy blazer that my dad had. It had been parked for over 10 years. One day we just put a new battery and the gas worked fine. It wasn't stabilized or nothin, the car just started right up with a new battery.
I've bought 4 used bikes from individuals. Only one of four would allow me to ride the bike prior to purchasing. Is that a deal breaker? Luckily every used bike I've bought had 0 issues.
Most sellers want the cash in their hand before a test ride. That way if the buyer drops the bike or anything, the seller doesn't need to fight to get the money.
As Dale said, it’s common etiquette if you want to test ride the bike to put cash in the sellers hand, in case you damage the bike somehow (drop, etc.) The agreement is if you damage it, you bought it 👍🏼
Great vid! Unfortunately here in eastern Europe Harleys are so expensive and I dont see myself getting one in near future. But your channel is great and it scratches my itch a bit!
I was supposed to watch this video before i bought my first 883 year 2020( i just found video) ... my mistake... i did not even ride the bike... and i bought it ( very excited ) it has 3700 miles and no history from the owner, but it came out really good ( i guess i was lucky ) thank you for the video!!
Winter/long time wake up advice: - Make sure the oil isnt crudy, gas isnt bad, and the batt has charge - pull the sparks and spray some fog oil in to coat the cylinders (will lube rings and cylinder walls) - use the starter as an electric oil pump to cycle some oil through the system (helps to have oil pressure gauge but 30s of starting should be good) - replace spark plugs and fire it up - use fuel stabilizer if it is going to sit - disconnect battery if it is going to sit for weeks...pull it and trickle charge if it will be months
Currently looking how to rebuild carbs on a Virago 750 after not stabilizing the gas and leaving the fuel on....thank you so much! Wish I would have seen this in October :P
@@BlockheadMoto Thanks homie, maybe one day I'll get to meet you at an event or something. I've been around since back when you made the How to Ride videos 🤙
Hey Blockhead, I was at my local Harley Dealer yesterday to pick up my replacement license plate frame. I seat tested a Soft tail and a Street Bob. Salesman said that I looked pretty good (fitting wise) on both bikes. I was wondering if you could or have done a review on the Street Bob since they put a 114 in them?
You mentioned at the end of the video that you pay tax on the amount you put on the title. Its worth mentioning that depending on where you live, that's not always the case. For example, in Georgia, you pay tax on the VALUE of the bike. Not the amount you paid for it. I found that out when I bought my first bike. Just something to keep in mind. Check with your local tag office to find out how they calculate the tax.
another reason to use non-ethanol gas for anything that will be sitting unused for any more than a month is because ethanol attracts water into the fuel, which we all know is bad. water can easily clog jets and make it darn near impossible to start a bike.
The amount you put on the title, what would you recommend? I’m just curious because of the reselling it back to a dealership or private owner. New to all the motorcycle stuff still in learning. Thank you 🙏🏻

I'm going to be looking at a 2012 Harley Davidson XL883 low. Hopefully it's gonna be ok, though I'm watching this before I have a look at it. They don't make Sportsters in the UK anymore so my only choice is used 🤷🏻♀️.

@@Kuiiken that's nice but I got a 2000 roadstar 1600 in perfect condition minus a couple marks in the chrome with 2k miles for 1k😎
Hello sir. i found a 2014 only 5k mile and 4800$ . Is it good deal ?
"That good good" 🤘🏼
Mmmmm, good good
Why do you have race gas it's not a race bike it dnt call for 91 93 e85 or e85r just put regular gas. The higher octane gas can make it burn rich.
Damn, that looks almost exactly like my Sportster I sold back in 2017...Miss that bike.
Jerry's house is really cool looking!
What gloves are those?! Link!
Honestly no idea, got them from Cycle Gear though 😅
@@BlockheadMoto if you could can you check the name on the glove and I will search for it because I really like how they look
@@BlockheadMoto never I found them buddy. They are Street & Steel Westwood Gloves
bro keep up this lit content
hm did you get on the bike?
is that the uhh... fluul pump..?
living in canada means no gas is good gas if its sat for a month....our bikes sit for 6 months every year
I'm going to be looking at a 2012 Harley Davidson XL883 low. Hopefully it's gonna be ok, though I'm watching this before I have a look at it. They don't make Sportsters in the UK anymore so my only choice is used 🤷🏻♀️.
abi5m3ll, So did you get it or what?
@@safeeffective385 no it sold before I could take a look. But a 2020 iron 1200 was available a few days ago so I'm just finalising some stuff and will be picking it up next week!
