Agreed. Ortho said they could operated but gave me the best advice ever. Ice. I played defense in football when I was younger. Picked up some knee issues. Add to that a family history of knee problems. At one stage I’d had about 2 years of constant pain. Till I spoke to an Ortho (out of the office) after he first asked my professional advice at a social event. Fair game yes? He recommended ice for 20 minutes plus and repeating that every few hours. Did that and some exercise similar to this one and my pain vanished. Hike mountains again. There is good science behind ice treatment and strengthening exercises. It’s about management. If I get a twinge the ice pack comes out. Elastic knee braces are also good for prevention when I hike. Again there is science on this. Not all doctors suck but it is sometimes hard to get enough of their time to go work a good management plan. Meanwhile you can do your own research.

I’ve been doing this for awhile now since knees over toes guy Ben said it helps with knee health, and it really does work. Along with atg split squats and walking backwards with a sled.
I’m 70 years old and what has been a blessing is that I’ve been an athlete all my life while working on my own career as a mother, therapist and married always exercise from lifting weights, yoga, 25 miles daily cycling, scuba diving, skiing and nutrition. Most important Meditation and prayer ❤
I’ve been feeling my knees hurt a bit when I’m stepping off curbs and getting up from the chair. I’ll start doing this exercise everyday. Thanks for the tip man. Exactly what I needed.
I strained these muscles years ago on a hike due to bad posture putting extra strain on them. Going to try this cautiously to build them back up. Thanks for sharing this!
I concur with this exercise. I’ve had pain in the ligament/tendon below the kneecap for a while recently. I’m a 51 yr old runner and never had this pain in my life till recently and rest didn’t help. I started doing this exercise by happenstance and notice it relieved the pain immediately. I did the exercises sitting in a chair and laying down in bed but I can see where doing it against a wall would be more helpful. I will start adding that variation as well. Because of this exercise I can run again and it is now part of the warm-up.

Omg! I love this! That's the muscle that constantly cramps up on me. I have to cross my legs and turn my foot up to pull the muscle out of it and it takes forever to finally get it calmed down. I never knew about this. Thank you!!
Since i built up my quads and stretched my hamstrings properly ive had zero knee issues. I used to have barely any quad development and constant knee issues.
Believe it or not, ar an aerobics class I took 25 years ago, the instructor taught us to do that exercise for the knees. Perhaps because she was a skier with a very badly torn up knee. She wore a heavy full leg brace when she did the class. Quite an amazing woman.
I'll have to try this. My right knee is getting twitchy again. There's one that I have done before that also helped. Get into downward facing dog, cross one leg behind the other & be on the ball of that foot. Have the heel of the front leg almost touching the floor, straighten your legs and lean back. You should feel a stretch on your knee.
Hello thank you for your video. What can I do to ease pain in my knees, glutes and the side muscles. Also sciatic pain. I ran a 5 and 10K last month and ever since I am in pain.. The sciatica flare up was in April of last year it went away after 5 weeks but flare up again last month! Thanks in advance.
Try supplementing with gelatin powder. It brought my knee pain from 10 to 2!!!! I had torn medial meniscus in both knees. You can heal torn meniscus’s without surgery!!
@NansGlobalKitchen Ouch! I’m sorry to hear about your sciatic pain returning! It’s so painful. Not to pull you away from the goodness that is this channel, but you might also benefit from finding Dr. Charlie Johnson here on UA-cam. About 6 months ago, I had my first sciatic flare-up ever and it incapacitated me for several weeks as well. I tried a bunch of stretches and stuff, following the advice of various physical therapists here on UA-cam. Some stretches felt ok in the moment, but later, it seemed like my pain was worse. When I stumbled across Dr. Charlie (also here on UA-cam) and watched some of his videos, they made sense to me, and I stopped doing the kinds of stretches which were *increasing* my pain, and leaned into mobilizing my body in ways that felt neutral, or good. It made a huge difference for me. Maybe it will help you too? I hope so. Sciatic pain is no joke. I hope you feel better soon!
Great tip, thank you! Any suggestions for exercises to eliminate popping knees? Left needs a replacement, lots of TB pain / popilitus and right is beginning to pop.
I am a walking freak, I can walk all day long if I'd get a chance but they way I walk is my main issue. My knees bend in opposite way while I'm pushing my legs backwards or even just standing. Sir, Can you suggest me how can I straighten it...
Can you explain how tibialis anterior muscle helps support the knee, if it has no action on the knee, only the ankle. It decelerates the ankle on heel strike, which could, indirectly give some shock absorption to the knee, possibly. But the concept is confusing. Speaking as a physiotherapist
It has a semi-antagonistic relationship with the quads because it pulls the tibia forwards when the foot is planted. Within your dorsiflexion ROM it functions as a knee flexor of sorts. You may want to look up Tom Myers / Anatomy Trains and the Superficial Front Line in particular
Ankle dorsiflexion does not have anything to do with knee flexion and the anterior tibialis does not cross the knee joint. And if it did act as a knee flexor "of sorts" which it doesn't, it would be impossible for it to decelerate knee flexion. It would have to be a knee extensor to decelerate knee flexion. 😂

Thanks, feels good to do actually and useful since despite never being overweight and being a tall more lean build I seem to have developed knee problems in my late 40's. It makes many leg exercises out of the question now so anything I can do is appreciated :)
I have osteoarthritis in my left knee. I work out for 30 minutes every day, but I try not to strain my knees. No squats, no lunges or stairs. If you put your hand on my knee when it's moving, it's really crunchy. I'll try this and see if it helps. Thanks.

Believe it or not, ar an aerobics class I took 25 years ago, the instructor taught us to do that exercise for the knees. Perhaps because she was a skier with a very badly torn up knee. She wore a heavy full leg brace when she did the class. Quite an amazing woman.
Thank you Tyler for another awesome video.
Great advise …just tried it for ninety seconds … this has strengthened my knees already thank you !
New subscriber here 😁
After one go? Impossible. But cool story bro 👍🏾
@@PickleThePig I’m not a bro and to be clear this did work for me … perhaps your cynicism will prevent you from the same
Thanks great info. I broke my tibia plateau 2 weeks ago. Will do this once I’m weight bearing again. & do seated ones meanwhile.
I know this exercise and do it sitting after running to get rid of any fatigue. now I'll do it leaning against a wall!
Nice job.
This works. Add wall squats since your there. Five minutes a day.
This guys attitude is infectious 😃 🌞
I used this exercise to help fix my pelvic tilt as well
Hello thank you for your video. What can I do to ease pain in my knees, glutes and the side muscles. Also sciatic pain. I ran a 5 and 10K last month and ever since I am in pain.. The sciatica flare up was in April of last year it went away after 5 weeks but flare up again last month! Thanks in advance.
Just type in sciatic pain and his exercises will come up for it
Try supplementing with gelatin powder.
So glad I do snowboarding I used the muscles alot. I love this exercise will be adding to my routine.

I am a walking freak, I can walk all day long if I'd get a chance but they way I walk is my main issue. My knees bend in opposite way while I'm pushing my legs backwards or even just standing. Sir, Can you suggest me how can I straighten it...
I literally have been thinking about that muscle for 2 days. Thank you!!!
Thanks Terry Tightpants 👍
I do this exercise. Awesome......
Wonderful exercise
Thanks., that is what I was looking for
Thanks, incorporating this into my daily stretches 👍🙂
Ohh wow. I never knew how to work that muscle. Thank you!
Thank you Mr. Doctor. I appreciate your enthusiasm and knowledge lol 😁
Excellent! Thanks for sharing and helping the society 😊
Surya Namaskar is for all

Can this be done by patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
People talk a lot about how soccer is bad for your knees, but I’m so thankful for having played soccer when I was young because I have all these leg muscles well developed and consequently have little to no knee or leg issues in my 40’s.
Hi big fan of ur videos help me a lot long story short my wife's suffering from multiple sclerosis which has affected her mobility so I am responsible for lifting her and helping her in her daily chores, that has caused severe back pain specially lower back both sides visited a chiropractor but the pain resides and reappear can I show some mobility or stretches that can help me make it stronger. I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. Will I do damage to my knees or some other part if I do this wrong? 🤔😳
Awesome thanks! I could feel the wooden floor digging into my heel for this one, but maybe that's okay? Otherwise I am thinking of putting some non-slip carpet or something padded under the heel for this.
I just did this and boy, I feel it, thanks
Thanks, feels good to do actually and useful since despite never being overweight and being a tall more lean build I seem to have developed knee problems in my late 40's. It makes many leg exercises out of the question now so anything I can do is appreciated :)
I have osteoarthritis in my left knee. I work out for 30 minutes every day, but I try not to strain my knees. No squats, no lunges or stairs. If you put your hand on my knee when it's moving, it's really crunchy. I'll try this and see if it helps. Thanks.
