    Found a huge external antenna mounted indoors in my attic and connected up a 30' cable to my LG smart tv, ran channel scan and got 34 channels (!!) clean and clear. Unbelievable especially when websites told me that most I could expect was 9 - 12 channels clearly. Antenna was in house back when purchased in 2003... new fangled aka high-tech (??) not always needed. Just get your antenna up high... THANKS for this info which inspired me.

    Antenna can work without roku, just select antenna input, and after scanning for channels on your tv you are done. It is important to watch a couple of videos before selecting the right antenna, because expensive antennas are not always good ones.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Every couple of months (for the last 2 or 3 years) I think of getting rid of my Xfinity. After all- I only watch prime time shows and about 6 other channels. I DVR EVERYTHING and hate TV commercials. I have been hesitant because I have no desire to watch live TV and I know my husbands wants local news. Per the link to the 1TB hard drive: I don't know your reasons for preferring the Western Digital HD but I've been a Seagate man for years. And FYI at the bottom of the page where the $54.99 WD HD is compared, there sits a Seagate 2TB HD (#1 best seller at that) for $59.99. I'd say that an extra $5 for double the capacity from a good company is a good deal, wouldn't you?

    • @uraniumu242

      Western digital has 2 product lines, one is more reliable than the other but I forget which, Seagate is a much more reliable product.

    • @woodworkerjunkie

      9 months later, the Seagate 2 TB HD is now $62.99 and if you click on the 2 TB HD Western Digital HD link, it's $64.99. The Seagate comes with a 1 yr. warranty and the WD comes with a 3 yr. warranty. I've had Seagate and WD HD's over the years and always had much better luck with WD's HD's. The Seagate's always tend to run hotter, slower and many times have bad sectors show up within a year or two.

      The antenna has nothing to do with resolution, that is between the source and the TV. The antenna is like the sail, what the sail (or antenna) is attached to defines what happens. Any antenna that advertises HD, resolution, digital, etc. is trying to suck in the ill informed to buy their antenna when the one on their roof already may be just fine. If it picked up the old analog signal, it will pick up the digital signal.

      Sometimes odd obstructions like building materials, power lines and hills can obstruct a signal. Things might get better for you when ATSC 3.0 comes around in the next few years. There is supposed to be much fewer problems with reception.

    Thank you so much! I got a roku tv like a year ago but I never used it because I absolutely hate setting up new devices. Having to enter passwords for everything, etc. Well I finally set it up a few days ago and I really love it! It's definitely worth the set up process. I didn't even think about how to watch regular tv on it. I've never had a smart tv before. I used chrome cast with my old one. And it was easy to watch regular channels. Although I watch regular tv maybe only a couple times a year these days. Usually watch hulu, amazon prime, etc. Anyway, tonight I wanted to watch some kind of new years Eve show and I realized I didn't know how on my new tv! Here it is 11 pm and I don't know how to watch regular tv. I never imagined as a younger person there would one day be this dilemma in my life 😂 I was going through the menu racking my brain trying to figure it out and then you said it's in settings! I have a cord that hooks up to my VCR (yes! I'm that old 😁) and I used it as an antenna for my old tv so I hope it works until I can get something else. 🤞

    I use a combination of Sling TV Blue with a Tablo Quad DVR for OTA TV. Tablo has a wonderful user interface. I know that Sling has partnered with AirTv but it only has 2 digital tuners and for OTA recording 2 tuners is just not enough. I wish There was a seamless way to integrate OTA channels with subscription streaming content in one guide. Any suggestions?

    • @CordCuttingReport
      @CordCuttingReport  4 роки тому +2

      I don't think anyone has come up with an elegant solution yet for marrying OTA and a service like Sling TV into a single channel lineup. Hardware manufacturers are well aware that it's kind of the Holy Grail.
      Tivo appears to have taken a shot at it with it's latest 4K streaming dongle. I haven't tried it yet, but no one seems super crazy about it. The Channels app (for HDHomeRun) integrates OTA and TV Everywhere apps. Haven't tried it, but it appears to be a step forward.
      If I find something close to what you're describing, I'll definitely make a video.

      Calvin... what sort of channel load times are you getting with your Tablo Quad? I just got a Dual within the hour from Amazon and it's terrible... usually at least 10 seconds minimum. It's hard to get a straight answer on the channel load times from reviews, too.

    • @CalvinCroucher
      @CalvinCroucher 4 роки тому +1

      @@johnchristianjr the channel load time with the Tablo is unacceptably long (more than 8 seconds). Even though it only has two digital tuners I have switched to the new AirTV-2. It is very fast switching between channels and in an A/B comparison the AirTV picks up many more clear channels. The integration with Sling Blue is wonderful to the point it's hard to tell whether you are going OTA or streaming channel.
