Got love public domain cartoons from the 30s😊
I found the soundtrack album for this movie and its a lot more intense
then the actual movie itself.
I want this channel to support me
Mike, you forgot the "Christ, I'm old" to S&H green stamps. Do you remember the eons it took to win stuff with those things when you could just buy them?
The radiator isn't the only thing that blows. This is like waiting for the gummy to kick in, then realizing you accidentally ate a vitamin bear.
That hurts my soul just thinking about it
LOL
This may be the greatest blurb review of the year!
@@stilts121 Thank you, Stilts. That means the World to me.
Alternate title: The Hills Have Eyes Watching Something Other Than This Movie.
The UK VHS was so dark it was unwatchable. We had so many complaints in the rental shop that we had to remove it from the shelf.
HEY! My name is on this one also... involved in one of the re-cuts for only two days and given a special thanks. In the shoestring budget world, a credit is a credit.
You have my undying respect. Seriously.
The Slayer/Scalps double feature VHS aka how I lost all my friends and was never invited to a party in high school again.
Kind of a rare tape now. It's worth some money.
19:20 'Oh, thank God,the free candy van!'
'I don't have any candy-'
'GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE!'
First Lion Face guy rules. Looks like an early Power Rangers villain.
“Stop those Rangers! I summon… Goldarr!”
Fred Olen Ray said “It was meant to be the cheapest film possible.” He succeeded.😊
financially, mentally, and spiritually
Oh how a box cover can build hope... I remember renting this one based on the cover, and the video shop owner telling me "dude, you don't want that one."
Haha! the cover art is so good!
That owner is good people-he spared you an incredibly boring sit. The cover art is fantastic!
@@hew2356 oh no, I ignored his advice. I was a teenager and thought "there's no way it's that bad."
Man, was I wrong. We had a good laugh about it when I brought it back. "Well, worst movie you've ever seen or what?"
I never seen it for rent. The vhs tapes are kind of rare.
@@makaveli4205 This would've been somewhere around 1996-98. I lived in a small town, but J&A Video had a horror section that featured a lot of rare and unusual titles. That's also where I got my first exposure to Fulci (specifically "Zombi 2" and "Gates of Hell", as they were), the Traces of Death series, and Premutos.
Mike as soon as I think you've reached the bottom of the cinematic sewer you find another level. :P
It's my one life skill... :p
Yeah the levels below that are full of "things" and maybe "roller-gators". 😅....
It's his gift to the world. Well, that and his JR impersonation ... One day, he will master it!
He a real C.H.U.D., when it comes to sewer dwelling.
@@michaelpinder4650
Or those Witch movies on Tubi, that have 20 of them.
I watched one, and there was really no reason to watch another. Nothing really happens, and there’s no nudity, gore, sex or much witchcraft I remember.
It’s like a really bad prawn, with some fugly folks, that all the scenes were removed from, except there were never those scenes. 😝
james earl jones tribute is appreciated mike
He is a legend. Nobody will ever have a voice like that. Kind of weird he ended up in exorcist 2. One of the worst sequels ever made.
"Eat your heart out, Merryl Streep" 😅😅😅 What a gem this is!
I'm getting severe Manos vibes from all that driving.
Same here-the film quality and wooden acting don't help.
So glad you made it through the hurricane and have another movie review coming up.
Thanks! Eyes on another one...
Remember when William Shatner had that action show on television?... what was it... TJ Escorts? Wait.... Can I say "shatner" on PrudeTube? Does anyone else remember TJ Escorts? Christ, I'm old.
Haha! I'd probably get demonetized for mentioning Shatner's show...
@@TheHorrorGeek 😆
I did a "Shatner" this morning come to think of it! 😆
With every video The Horror Geek puts out this channel gets better and better easily cementing it as one of the most consistently entertaining and fun channels on YT, Keep it coming Mike and Team.
Thanks Roc!
2:20 Is that Ron Pearlman under there? Just need Linda Hamilton to stand next to him 😂😂
As slow as the OJ Simpson Bronco chase. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😂😂😂😂
That Lion Head mask came right off the wall of the restaurant in Samurai Cop 😂
I watched this when I was 4 or 5 with my uncle and dad. VCR was borrowed from a family friend and they rented every action movie, horror movie and scifi movie they could that weekend. I also remember them renting the John Saxon cannibal movie
“I want my SCALPS!” But don’t be expect Brad Pitt here. It’s from 1983 it’s just an awful film.
Editor: "So you want me to shave a bit off scalps?" 😂😂
Continental Video has this movie as a double feature along with The Slayer. I knew I remembered it from somewhere.
14:29 If she was Canadian, she would have said: "I'm really sawry eh?" 😂😂
Ah, S&H Green Stamps! Ten completed books will get you - a toaster?
I looked up Kirk Alyn's bio on Wikipedia; turns out he died in the town just up the road from me (The Woodlands, TX).
It takes until 16:08 before another person actually dies. This movie must've been painful.
16:25 - 16:32 So dude leaves with a girl, comes back by himself, splattered with blood on his face, says the girl "fell", and nobody questions it?
If you told me this movie was filmed in a week, I'd believe you.
"Hell yeah!" with a joint was a very welcome surprise!
It's not Winterbeast, but you're getting close! Can't wait to watch this tomorrow. Keep up the good mike! 👍
One of these weeks you're gonna be so surprised. :p
@@TheHorrorGeek I can't wait!
I love Winterbeast!
5:15 Anjelica Houston's stunt double. Houston, we have a problem 😂😂
I remember Thundercats!
We've finally found a movie with more pointless, dull driving shots than "Manos". Between the grainy film, total disregard for continuity, and the glacial pace, this movie should be prescribed as a cure for insomnia.
my brother could never stop talking about
Magnús Ver Magnússon
He was a beast. No one cared about strong man and all that back in those days, but I'd watch him every time he was on.
@@TheHorrorGeek I only watched a handful of those kinds of things myself.
Couldn't find a copy but understand I should be grateful for that.
Haha! Yeah, it's probably for the best.
It was free on Plex when I saw it.
9:36 That random monster insert almost gave me a strained eyebrow. I did not expect that.
Fred Olen Ray's talent is kind of like a snipe, I know it exist in some capacity, but I don't know if it can exactly be hunted down and captured so as to be shown in the light.
What can I say about his talent? He had none.
@@andrew_owens7680 I have a soft spot for Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, but I wouldn't argue with you!
The blue mid afternoon for night makes the killer's mask look like someone tried to make a Zardoz mask from memory. Indeed, shocked we never got a sequel. Lol
The Drake joke could have used a Degrassi insert 😂😂😂
Only you, Mike and RedLetterMedia on UA-cam make me laugh out loud and you're more consistent 🏆
Thank you! I'm very flattered by that.
@@TheHorrorGeek Most welcome good sir!
it is amazing to see that the Indian zombie/ ghosts all shop at the wrangler store
Who knew right? :p
HEY!! I am in college and I am 51!!
I went back in my 30s...every semester, first day, without fail someone would assume I was the instructor.
The actress next to Forrest J. Ackerman when he has the book... that's Maya Rudolph! Five Below.
Is it? She was only 10 or 11 when this was made.
“I feel like I should kick in for gas at this point” 😂 nice
Continuity is hard
Loved the Napoleon Dynamite references 😊 Have a good one, Mike.
That Biz Markie cutscene😂😂
Glad someone appreciated that. :p
@@TheHorrorGeekI come for the review of the terrible films...I stay for the obscure rap references.
The Horror Geek got what we need.
What did we learn from SCALPS? How NOT to make a movie.
7:39 I think the monster's strategy is wait for the victims to die of old age....
4:28 personally, i will always remember ackerman best as the judge in "nudist colony of the dead"
Ironically there is also a western with this title made by Bruno Mattei given what I know about Bruno Mattei it will be a case of so bad its good
Hey, stay safe out there!
Gotta be honest, Mike. Whenever I saw them driving around in the station wagon, I heard Holiday Road from Vacation. Lol! Cheers!
Haha! Yeah, same.
I thought Manos had some pointless driving scenes this film has it beat
Hilarious review. What I love about Fred is that he went straight from this type of stuff to making a bunch of Hallmark movies. I don’t know which would be harder to sit through, this or ‘A Royal Christmas Holiday’. But hey, he’s a working director so good for him. Just want to thank you man. You do so much to entertain us and you’re so smart at it too. The amount of work you do is incredible. Frankly, I don’t know how you do it.
Thanks man! I'll be honest...almost 6 years in it gets harder every week. I'm constantly trying not to repeat myself over and over (beyond the recurring stuff like hell yeah...) :p
2:15 Thunder-Thunder-Thundercats, HOOO! 😆Sorry couldn't resist this one!
So some sort of very vague Indian curse that immediately eliminates anyone who trespasses on sacred ground? Unless it's a group of people in which case an ancient Indian Spirit of a warrior takes over the body of one member of the group, then eliminates the others, while staying behind to eliminate any new trespassers? That about it? _Also, Green stamps were before my time. I'm not THAT old._
Napoleon Dynamite is a movie as amazingly awful as this one looks to be! I remember that lion mask with the curling lip from when I was a kid, but I never remembered what movie it was from until now, and it makes me think of how every other Internet creepypasta story is basically "Uh, like, I saw something and I, like, didn't know what it was, so it was, like, a SKINWALKER!" (Which those things are REALLY bad news if they exist)
Thanks Mike I almost bought the bluray of this you saved me some much-needed shelf space
Dodgy man: Is this the way to the elephants graveyard?
Stern looking woman: SIT DOWN!
Me: 😂😂😂
Oh, Mike. It's just gone 1AM here in the UK and I've not been in a good place. Thank you for cheering me up.
Hope you're okay!
@@TheHorrorGeek Aw thanks. Just depression and PTSD being a 💩.
Frank McDonald had a farm, where he hid out after appearing in this flick.
This and the stop motion proto evil dead are top on my track down list.
Fred Olen Ray proves ANYONE can be an independent director.
Woohoo a The Car reference, extra point!
Hey greetings from Spain. I've been traveling through Western Europe the last week 😻
@6:30 before they were stars: Is the chick that played Alex P. Keaton's hot liberal mom on Family Ties? The only show opening to ever use a triple negative in a sentence. Do you even remember Family Ties? Christ, I'm old. @7:41 if you saw how much oil that thing was burning, you'd know it was just a matter of time. @7:49, I thought they were all going to be joining Linda Lavin and have to get jobs at Mel's diner. That would have been a much cooler movie crossover. @11:11 is this some of the lost footage from when the Brady Bunch went to the Grand Canyon? @17:55 that's the Creep from Creepshow before Creepshow was Creepshow!!!
If I lived in Florida, I wish I could be the Beavis to your Butt-head comments. Your humor would have such a synastry with mine.
the P in scalps looks like dancing legs
This movie has literally more driving than Duel. 😂
It kind of feels like I was watching the diet version of Hills have eyes
That's a pretty spot on take. :p
@@TheHorrorGeeklaserblast meets hills have eyes 😊
Scalps will be my favorite bad horror movie of 1983.
Happy spooky 👻 🎃 October Mike 💕👻
Thanks Amy!
Well done Mike for sourcing this absolute classic. 🎉
Thanks to you, I shall search for this film to watch when my insomnia kicks in. 😂
Gotta say, your posts are a mid week highlight, and long may they continue 😊
"My hair! My hair!" as read by dice clay 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘🍻🤘
So, does Hardware Hank have a defense contract?”-Crow
“The cameraman just can’t get up te energy to go over there.” Mike
“What is he going to get mauled by $100 bills? Do something!” Servo
“Oh! It just happened the hose outacted him.” Mike
“Oh, what do I put put on my time sheet for this?” Mike
😅
I like the video so I left a like and a comment
1:55 Adolescent Skeletor? 🤣🤣
😄 thanks for the shout, mike 👍🏼
Sorry it took so long. You were in a different video that got delayed so I moved you to a newer one. 😂
No problem, just flattered to be associated with the masterpiece that is Scalps. Tbh I thought the creepy soundtrack made it semi-watchable.
me screaming at the camera: "EVEN 'JERRY' HAD LESS WALKING THAN THIS OMG!"
Fred Olen Ray said "those scenes shouldn't be here", but he might be lion.
Hey, good month for Elephant Graveyard.
Someone really said "get me a discount Nancy Kulp".
You say Napoleon Dynamite, I say Daniel Easygoing.
"And now, DJ is the killer!"
Most range Candace Cameron has ever shown.
Hahaha!
A Drayton Sawyer and The Great Kabuki shout out in one movie?
Only per The Horror Geek !!!
There are definitely things here you won't find anywhere else. :p
Too bad about the sequel. I couldn't wait for Scalps 2 The Second Tomahawk.
Mike, not everything can be Highlander! ;)
I'm speechless sir except, that hammer swing was nowhere near his head.
Entertaining as always Mike thanks for the birthday wish and keep up the good work Fulci Lives!!! Hail Horror!!! 👍
Happy birthday! Mine's in just over two weeks. :p
I always immediately hit the like button in case I forget and besides, I already know I’m going to like your review.
"Is this the way to the elephants graveyard?"
No, but it is the way to painful day for night camera work and guys who react sleepily to A FIRE EXPLODING IN THEIR FACE!
So did Bruno Mattei just look at this title and say I'll have that one, when he made a Western called Scalps in '87? And kinda, the 1970 Ranch Wagon and 1978 Country Squire were both part of the Custom series.
Haha. I never saw so many changing night/afternoon/morning scenes in one movie . Best Entertainment as usual Mike😅
Thanks Janer!
I must really like schlock trash because I do like this movie. I love the evil spirit mask, and that the movie’s logo looks like a metal band logo. I also grew up in a desert close to where the movie was filmed, and I always felt like it was haunted and had a really bad energy around it, which is probably the main reason why I relate to this movie.
Oh don't get me wrong...I have a soft spot for it. It's not good by any conventional metric but it's charmingly inept. :-)
The title card looks like it was trying to be a metal band name. And not in a good way either.
GOOD OL' HORROR GEEK BRINGS HOME THE BLOODY BACON. 😮🎉😊
You know, I expected more actual scalping judging by the cover 😆 speaking of scalping, did you hear they're making Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian into a movie? Should be some quality splatter!
Fun fact about the campfire portion: In 1981 "The Burning" had a campfire scene at a summer camp where the counselors told the story of "Cropsy" the killer of the film. As I recall, that movie came out a few weeks before Friday the 13th Part 2, where they also had a campfire scene.
Glad Helene didn't hit you too hard over on the Gulf side. I look forward to the weekly dose of Horror Geek -- plus I get all the "Christ I am old jokes" -- because . . . old :) and "I wonder if my beer's skunky?"
We lucked out over here. a buddy a few miles closer to the gulf got like 6 foot of water in his house...
@@TheHorrorGeek Yes, a musician friend in St Pete lost guitar amps, speakers, & gig equipment due to water intrusion. Take care over there Mike, unfortunately there's more rain in the forecast for FL!
Say what you want about this movie but I like it.
It's oddly charming in its ineptitude for sure.
Great video, as always. Kind of surprised/disappointed there wasn’t a Manos reference about all that drive time footage in the beginning of the film, though.
I nearly made a Bone Tomahawk joke before finishing the video. Dodged a... a tomahawk, there...
Just watched a video on that recently by Ryan Hollinger. it's interesting.
Hi Mike, great video! I actually thought that WAS the actor who played Mick Taylor lol. I remember S & H Green Stamps, Mr. Goodwrench, and old beer commercials. I'm triply old this week lol!
19:42 - "just in case you dozed off"
... Well, actually, I kind of did.
“Poor Kirk. From Superman to this.” Lol
Scalp's Iron Maiden's new album 😁😁😁😁 Doe's kinda reminds me of one like that other person said.
