To explain - as some are confused about the catch-and-release - this is at a fishery in England. There's lots of those over here. Privately owned, enclosed lakes where you can buy day tickets and leisure fish for various stocked species. Killing any of them is a BIG NO NO!! You'll be banned from the venue.
Instead, strong emphasis is placed on fish care. With the mandatory use of barbless hooks, antiseptic spray, and "cradles" - that foam matt you see me place the fish into. As it's wetted, padded, and never lets the bulk of the fish scrape the solid ground. And you weigh it by just lifting the cradle/netting by handles. NEVER holding it by the mouth.
Why? Because these fish are valuable. Very valuable! And can live for 20 years with proper handling. With the various venues in intense competition for who owns the largest carp stocks. That will attract customers looking for pictures with their personal best fish.
I recommend google imaging "20 year old carp". You'll quickly understand what the fuss is about.
**Edit** - This video here is quite illustrative of what we carp anglers are trying to do. Keep it wet, keep it calm, treat any injuries, take a nice picture, then get it back in the water - ua-cam.com/video/BEYoNctNjYg/v-deo.html

I mean, yeah, but from the fishes perspective? Some asshole shoved a metal hook into its lip, pulls it out of the water, and while the fish is suffocating Womble is like "calm down. Are you over your temper tantrum?"
The fish is completely unable to breath, getting sprayed with random shit, and the asshole giant is also talking shit while it is dying. Pretty sure that carp knows a shark and that shark is looking forward to getting to know Womble.
Pretty much why I don't fish and if I do, i don't release them back into the wild. That is just asking for some crazy vendetta shit.
