Multiple pause
Thank you so much !!
Arch enemy the world is yours please react to it
Pause it when you want to talk about something you've heard.
A fair judgement/ Burden is your song....
A fair judgement/ Burden is your song...trust me
To Bid You Farewell by Opeth you won't regret it !
One of the most beautiful songs you'll ever listen to with amazing acoustic and clean vocals .
Totally agree
I played that for my leaving cert music practical
@@fuzzydunlop1988 Wow , what a nice song to choose ! so beautiful and full of emotions .
Hard agree
Some suggestions:
- Porcelain Heart
- A Fair Judgement
- Hex Omega
- Moon Above, Sun Below
- Burden
- Harvest
- To bid you Farewell
No growls on these Drew.
WHERE IS THE MOOR ?? THAT IS THE SONG FOR DREW TASTE !!!
@@mike2003ars no, it really isn't. It's a great song, but he seems to be "indifferent" although "appreciative" of the longer classical passages, and is outright turned off by the growls. So that would be the worst possible pick for him.
The tracks listed above are all great suggestions, especially Moon Above...
I think he would mostly enjoy songs from the last two albums, like All Things Will Pass, Universal Truth, Era, Chrysalis, Wilde Flowers.
YES! Porcelain heart, Burden and To bid you farewell are the best!
fair judgment is kinda meh to be honest
I really recommend Burden (no growls), Bleak (Steven Wilson as guest vocals) and Baying of the Hounds, which has amazing guitar riffs.
Liking primarily for Baying of the Hounds, LOVE that song and find it pretty underrated.
Trust me, this song grows on you. I did not like this song at all first. I tried and tried and tried to like the song but couldn’t. Now a long time after, it’s on of my favorite songs.
Same here, took me years
Ichsannur Farizki just came to a realization though. When I started liking Opeth I was a death metal fan, for me it was the clean parts and the clean singing I had a hard time with, I was already used to growls and heavy playing. I personally don’t think he will ever get into Opeth really, it’s a band you have to try to like until you do it and I don’t think he knows how to interpret the growls really. Opeth just isn’t for everyone, as easy as that.
I heard this song particularly very recently, and in my case it's totally opposite. I'm hooked to this 🙂
Opeth - Lovelorn Crime. Great song from their newest album.
Opeth - Continuum
Opeth - Lovelorn Crime
Opeth - The Wilde Flowers
Opeth - Era
Opeth - Will O the Wisp
Opeth - Cusp OG Eternity
All Opeth songs with no growls from their later albums. I think these would vibe with you a lot more than their older material.
Are you crazy? To bid you farewell is 10 times better than all this new songs combined
Ivan Pindric he didn’t seem to vibe with Windowpane too much, so I offered something off their other clean vocal albums. To Bid You Farewell is a classic tho
also Sorceress 2 is an underrated lovely
Thanks for reaction to this. Not many do and this is in my top 5 opeth tracks
Tom James EXACTLY. After that small acoustic part, that melodic part is soooo nice
I highly recommend "Lovelorn Crime " from them. It's a very simnple Song for Opeth i think but that makes its so interesting to me, its nithing complicated yet absolutely beautfully written and it gives an amazing feel. And.. sorry for dropping it again. If you like Opeth i also ahve to drop the Name Katatonia ( Forsaker is a good Intro Song for them ) again ! but i also want to bring the name "Soen" into the game here. With Songs like "Martyrs" that might also be quite enjoyable to you (and of course other people who like Opeth and dont know about Soen or Katatonia yet). As always, love your reactions :)
Agreed he has to listen Katatonia their new album is fantastic.
Good bands wrong songs
@@therev7744 i think forsaker is a very good song to get to know Katatonia, but there are tons to choose from yes :) which one would you recommend for a first listen to the band?
just gonna keep recommending "All Things Will Pass" off in cauda venenum. Great no growls song
The ending to that song is fucking perfect
@@fuzzydunlop1988 That outro still gives me chills to this day after already hearing it for probably hundreds of times. The best possible way to end an album hands down
@@MystFGO it didn't hit me until I saw them play it live in December
@@fuzzydunlop1988 did the same for me when I saw them. It was great on the record for sure, but I had an emotional experience standing there being enveloped in it, and now it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.
I love Bananaman off that record. So unexpected.
Would recommend checking out Where Owls Know My Name by Rivers Of Nihil
Bump that ^
Since we’re into modern Prog, I’m going to recommend The Pineapple Thief. Porcupine Tree vibes. In fact, the drummer from Porcupine Tree is now their drummer. Here are some recommendations:
“Tear You Up”
“Far Below”
“Alone at Sea”
“In Exile”
“Simple as That”
“Try As I Might”
You would probably like Porcelain Heart or Burden more from this album
Burden for sure
Totally
I think he would really dig Burden
shimmeries doesn’t seem though if he is going to come back to opeth
or Coil even, but it would make for a very short video. Maybe a twofer with Burden and Coil
Opeth don't use growls in the last 10 years, maybe you need to listen their recent work
Please do Burden by Opeth and also more Gojira, preferably from The Way of All Flesh :)
I always feel the amount of water you drink is inversely proportional to your honest enjoyment of the song.
taking that song out of context is a crime. the whole album really needs to be taken as a whole to even come close to the potential it has. IMO their best album. It doesn't have the straight highlights that some others do, but as a whole it by far works the best. It as a whole is a highlight.
not that i blame you, its an unfortunate aspect of this youtube format, just makes me sad a bit.
i always wished i could write something like this about Watershed. there's a reason why Mikael chose to decide the name Watershed for this record.
geez the first one I found on the net that also finds this album as their best one. I think that too. They simply didn't give a f*** about any demands of the fans and the label and together with Jens Bogren put all the experimentation on the composition, lyrics, production they could think that would fit, and the results are just amazing.
If you like the orchestral parts then you gotta check out Faith in Others by Opeth. No growls and is utterly beautiful.
I swear, Pale Communion gets better every time I listen to it. Starting to think it`s the best Opeths album
Back again requesting Haken - either Cockroach King, Pareidolia, Atlas Stone or 1985 would all be amazing tracks. Very similar to Dream Theater in many ways, but still totally unique - I think they’re right up your alley!
Nocturnal conspiracy
Next do BURDEN or PORCELAIN HEART same album
its been a while since i listen to Opeth, but this shit is so damn amazing it should be illegal!
Right? I haven't heard this shit in like 8 years and holy fuck!
Try "The Wilde Flowers". It's a heavy-ish track from them with their traditional "classical" atmosphere that you like, but without any growls
I second this, The Wilde Flowers might be a track you could really get into.
@@chaoticevilmonk2223 Definitely!
Holy SHIT last I checked in you were at like 8k subs and I just got an ad with you in it on UA-cam and looked back to see this, nice man.
I really think you would like Caverns by Thank You Scientist. It’s a blend of Prog Metal, 70s Prog Rock, and Jazz. If you like Tool, you will probably like this song. Plus I think a lot of your subscribers would like to hear this if they haven’t already.
DREW!! You need to listen to a more recent Opeth track. Please take a look at Sorceress (Heavy instrumentals and clean vocals). Do the live version at red rocks.
From the same album, I recommend these two songs:
- Porcelain Heart
- Burden
Great tracks with no growls at all.
I think people recommended this since you wanted more dark stuff that soothes current times, but this song certainly require a certain mood. Try Hex Omega from the same record, there's no growling and has a nice progressive groove to it. Otherwise A Fair Judgement is probably more up your sleeve. More Steven Wilsonie, he even helped with the production for that record. Cheers!
I think A Fair Judgement is pretty underrated as far as Opeth songs go. When it comes to cleans it's always Harvest, Burden etc, but very rarely someone mentions A Fair Judgement.
Opeth - "The Grand Conjuration"
Been looking forward to this one!!!
Plz react “To Bid you Farewell”
"A Fair Judgment" seems the right track for you. If you still want to try another heavier Song, check out " Bleak"
Some time ago, i was asking you for a reaction to Isis. They were the opener for Tool on their "10.000 days" tour. Check out Isis "Carry" or "Threshhold of Transformation" . i promise you will enjoy those!
My favourite Opeth song, and album. Sums up everything Opeth has to offer in one misty beautiful scary trip.
Thanks for staying honest. Subbed. These songs usually require a couple listens before you get it. It was like that for me at least.
Oh yes! More Opeth!
Some Opeth suggestions
Black Rose Immortal
The Lotus Eater
Hex Omega
The Leper affinity
The baying of the hounds
Demon of the fall
April ethereal
The moor
In my time of need
Death whispered a lullaby
I've been listening to Opeth since 2006, and it took ten years for me to realise that this (and Cusp of Eternity) are my favourite songs. This one particularly, it grows on you...
Lol, what a way to start your Opeth journey. Have fun 🥰🤘
You don't merely listen to Opeth, you experience it.
You need MORE experience before you can appreciate it.You can't necessarily like their more epic tracks right away, it takes time to digest it.
Whoa dude! I really wanted you to react to this one
Haha I'm writing before watching it, but I know it's going to be good
Not the right song for him
Thanks for the honest reaction! I personally feel the same about Hessian Peel so I'm not surprised it wasn't too memorable for you. I'd say try The Moor, Bleak, or The Leper Affinity since these are much more delivering Opeth Songs (The last one is mostly growls, the other two are mixed). Hopefully you find some bangers amongst them!
From the same album: Heir Apparent. My personal favourite from that album.
My personal overall favourite Opeth song: Demon of the Fall. Absolute perfect piece of music! You should definately check that one out!
Long time listener, first time commenter. I think you’ve made it so clear that rough vocals don’t really vibe with you. I am the same way and as far as I can tell, they don’t really vibe with the band itself anymore either! I’m not one for suggesting things just to get people into stuff I like, I just happen to see a lot of parallels in our taste at a similar age. I’m 36 now and discovered a lot of the same music you are now when I was your age and maybe a little younger, and so I am just hoping you don’t give up on these guys.
Opeth is one of my top five favorite bands of all time (Tool is my undisputed number one, Porcupine Tree is number two), but it took a while for me to get there (ten years ago Dream Theater was one of my absolute favorites and Opeth was just a great band I listened to sometimes and now they’ve sort of swapped places). While Opeth’s musical arrangement has always been amazing, their rise to my three spot has been a result of their prog turn (all clean vocals and prog/classical elements) which covers the albums Damnation (Steven Wilson produced), Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress and In Cauda Venenum. I think you’ll find more personally enjoyable individual cuts from those, though I must say as whole packages, the albums Blackwater Park and Watershed are absolutely incredible albums to my taste even with some rough vocals, but are better as a whole rather than cut up!
I’m not even suggesting pieces for reaction here. I just hope you’ll take some time to consume more of their stuff on your personal musical journey because I think you’ll get a lot out of it in the long term! Be well and thanks for sharing.
Completely agree man... Drew please don’t give up on listening to them even if you don’t react. Listen the entire albums instead of song. They are a band who have nuances rather than catchy hooks and riffs. Their riffs are full of tasty melodies and you will pick them up on whole album and repeat listens. Many prog rock/metal bands of today like Jinjer etc cite Opeth as big influence. Don’t react to them just give give them a spin when you are free
Hey Drew - the album this was from was the last album they every did the growling/screaming on. They’ve since put out 4 albums with clean vocals and a more-evil-less-Metal sound (and two versions of the most recent album in both English and Swedish). I’d recommend anything from Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress, or In Cauda Venenum
I really think you'd like "Harvest" by them. It's just emotional, melodic and amazing through and through ❤️❤️❤️
👏🏻 good thing to be honest Drew :)
Cusp of Eternity/ Burden/ lovelorn crime are brilliant songs that you would absolutely LOVE. theres no growls in them either so thats a bonus for you ;)
Yeah burden for sure. One of the most beautiful (sad) pieces of music I have ever heard
The Funeral Portrait, The Grand Conjuration, Porcelain Heart and Master's Apprentices are some great songs which you might enjoy
Too damn good!
Drew have you ever heard Demians? He’s a dude from France who has put some incredible compositions together in the ‘progressive rock/metal’ area. Steven Wilson is a big fan.
Try ‘The Perfect asymmetry’ or ‘Sapphire’ from his debut album, or ‘Swing of the Airwaves’, ‘Black over Gold’ or ‘Rainbow Ruse’ from his masterpiece second album ‘Mute’ 🙂
We are still waiting for The shattered fortress ;) Best wishes
Finally some more Opeth!
I love to see how passionate Opeth fans are😍😍😍😍
Biggg! Great album great track !
Drew, you should listen to the band HAKEN, they are amazing and you'd really like them. I suggest the songs "The point of no return", "Nocturnal conspiracy" and "Cockroach king".
Nocturnal conspiracy for sure
Veil!
Would be awesome if you could check out To Bid You Farewell from them. It doesn't have any growls, features some amazing classical (acoustic) guitar 'riffs' and still has some rawness/heaviness to it.
These songs are made to be listened to in the context of the album as a whole.
Check out Sorceress!!! There is no screaming and it’s still badass man!!
Haken - The Architect
Like many other people are saying, try Burden by Opeth : )
btw almost half of their discog (Damnation, Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress, In Cauda Venenum) contain no growls, so plenty of songs to try out : )
Great choice, really love this song. Check out Artificial Silence - The Advocate, really good newer prog
I dont see anyone showing To Bid You Farewell any love :[
Listen to Bleak! It has Steven Wilson sharing vocal duties. Also, god you need to do Serenity Painted Death.
My favourite song on that album! For a journey, pls react to Black Rose Immortal off Morningrise.
10:05 is everyone listening to a new prog song and still not getting the change in dynamics 😂 love this reaction man
Thank you so much !!
Was listening to watershed at work today and once i got to this song I immediately thought "man I feel like drew would fuck with this"
My recommendation is to concentrate on the albums Damnation, Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress and In Cauda Venenum. These albums don't have any 'growling vocals' at all and with Heritage onwards are very much more progressive rock with classical, folk and jazz influences. There are some similar tracks on earlier albums too, like To Bid You Farewell, Benighted, Face Of Melinda, A Fair Judgement, Isolation Years and Burden.
Give 'All things will Pass' a go it is off their new album very orchestral sounding clean / heavy and no growls. :)
I think that if you really want to like Opeth you need to listen the song multiple times , so you can understand the message or the elements that the song contains. Please keep doing Opeth reactions!
My personal recommendation is Death Whispered a Lullaby, is a short song but with beautiful instrumentation.
Something I've found with extreme consistency -- Opeth is slow burn. Listen to it a few times. Keep trying. It will start sinking in and you'll start "getting" it. It took me 5 years to get them. Everyone I know that loves them had to revisit them numerous times.
Man I love this song and what it does to people. Just as you're getting into the groove 10:53 happens. This whole song feels like a descent into madness.
You gotta see The Lotus Eater from them live at the Royal Albert Hall
1. Burden, Coil (Watershed) - You can do this in 1 video
2. The Moor, Face of Melinda (Still Life)
3. The Lotus Eater (Watershed)
4. To bid you farewell, The night and the silent water (Morningrise)
Check out Folklore!
If you dont like growls in opeth's music you could listen any track from albums from "Heritage" to "In Cauda Venenum". There is no growls up here.
If you like the mellow more acoustic classical stuff then check out Will O The Wisp. Hessian Peel is my personal favourite as I love how ballanced it is between heavy and mellow and I'm more of a mellow music kind of guy. Will O the wisp is beautiful though.
Love to see some electric wizard dopethfone album reactions if you've never heard
I believe you are due for some Nordic melodic death metal in the form of either Insomnium (song: While We Sleep) or Dark Tranquillity (Lost to Apathy or The Endless Feed to start with, can't really go wrong with any song).
Definitely do Burden, it's simply beautiful
Man I forgot how good this song is!
Even the opeth with growls is very good. Extreme musicianship.
Windowpane or Era, both Opeth songs with no growling that have tonnes and tonnes of atmosphere!
There is a bit of backmasked lyrics in this and several other Opeth songs Drew! 8:56 he sings 'they'll lock all your reason why' (the lyrics on screen are wrong!)
You should react to Windowpane by them. No growls, more of a jazzy song, with incredible solos and melodic sections
Already done. Check his playlist of opeth
As Lions and Lambs - No Return. Reaction!
Burden and Porcelain Heart don't have growls and those are my favourite tracks by them, so that's my recommendation!
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME - SELKIES: THE ENDLESS OBSESSION.
Burden, i promise it's not a burden... The best clean vocal performance from Mikael. Heart wrenching solo's all the way through.
Knowing your liking for a bit of prog rock I'd love to see you reacting to
Von Hertzen Brothers - War is Over
Cusp of eternity or the river from opeths pale communion album, if your not a fan of the growls.
Just great awesome 👍❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹🌹
I like that you pronounce it oPeth
I guarantee you will love the song Burden by Opeth. No growls and it has the elements that you were saying you liked from them.
Honestly, You need to try Sorceress, Voice of Treason, The Wilde Flowers, Dignity. All these tracks are from Opeth, all clean vocals.
My first time listening to opeth, man they're heavy motherfuckers! Cheers bud for the introduction!
To Bid You Farewell is a really nice ballad, no screaming at all. I would compare it to Face of Melinda. 🤘
Everything you said about this track makes me think you need to listen to Emerson Lake & Palmer or King Crimson. My personal favorites would be Karn Evil 9 and 21st Century Schizoid Man, respectively. The first one is about 30 minutes long so that might be a bit much for a reaction, but it sounds like you would love the elements of both bands, very proggy and has that sort of feel you were talking about at the end of this song.
Edit: After reading the comments, I would like to also agree with anyone suggesting Burden. I'm not a massive fan of Opeth, and I am a massive fan of Steven Wilson, so I think Burden would be right up your alley. Everything you like about Opeth and nothing you don't.
Definitely A Fair Judgement next for you. Opeth v Dream Theatre.
OPETH for me all day..
BURDEN!
