    Words carved in stone.
    We have been retirees for over 5 years. Retired at the age of 61, after working for 70 years all together both of us. Have been saving & investing for decades and practicing a simple modest lifestyle.
    I follow U Professor G because of your simplicity , modesty and the books you recommend. ( Feww of them I had read before knowing you).
    Anyhow from a lifetime experience you are absolutely right.
    I would also recommend the book " The Millionaire Next Door.

      If they taught it too many people would be retiring at 45 and not paying taxes

      @inthetrencheswithcas1762 it is, because if they taught this you could theoretically live at home for 10 years work at McDonald's (especially in CA)invest and potentially be retired in 10 to 15 years. You could literally drop out at 16 invest in the stock market at work at McDonald's until 30 years and reach financial freedom. They need you to work until 65

    I discovered you 6 months ago. Why did I not find you sooner? It’s okay, I follow your 3-fund portfolio and let’s say this is my starting point at 46 years old. I had a lot of ups and downs in investing since I started at age 33, bought stocks that went bankrupt, lost approx $120k, but now I’ve grown my portfolio by nearly $100k since August 2023. I’m hoping I could reach 7 figures (not including my fully paid condo) in 2.5 years. But I’m not retiring until I have at least $2M at age 55. That’s the goal. I like listening to you the most because of the way you talk, you aren’t pushy, you have a great attitude, and a lot more. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks

    Great advice for business, finances, and life in general! It’s kind of sad that some of these have to be pointed out! I’m reading Millionaire Mission right now by the Money Guy, Brian Preston (my other favorite UA-cam channel). He talks about being dollar rich but time poor as his grandfather and father both died in their 50’s, and he just turned 50. It’s so important to have your priorities right! My financial goal is being able to finally have my own place to have a better peace of mind in terms of being able to just kicking back and relax after a long days worth of work. Afterwards being able to go on adventures without having to worry about how much has been spent. Just a simple, relaxing, stressless life. A sanctuary in which i would definitely appreciate because I finally achieved it after many years of hardships.

    At 52 years of age and investing weekly in my employer’s deferred compensation plan one , oddly one of my biggest regrets is I listened to much that I must diversify my portfolio. In hindsight I would have been in much better shape if I just invested 100% into the S&P 500 fund. Instead I put only about 25% into the S&P and rest into international, value, small/midcap, real estate, etc.
    It sounds like the right thing to have been doing but I would have a lot more money right now if I just went all in the S&P 500 from day one. Keep that in mind for you younger investors.

    • @Atrus999
      @Atrus999 3 місяці тому

      I don't know if I'd do 100% into the S&P 500 as that doesn't seem very safe but I ended up doing 40%.

    Good stuff, Prof G. I was interested that you brought up the "work smarter, not harder" thing, then added the caveat to work hard, too. I agree with you 100%. I picked this up early in life. My father was very intelligent... and he was brought up on a dairy farm. Hard work was a given. He combined his intelligence with a hard work ethic to become a self-made person. My mom was the same way, very smart and good work ethic. They made a fine team and left their family (me and my brothers) with a legacy of intelligence and a good work ethic. Thanks for your continued wonderful content. This is one for the archives. Cheers

    It’s a matter of perspective- if you ask a service person for their name it can be viewed as treating them as a child or servant because you are then addressing them familiarly while they need to address you formally - they do not know your name. If you do introduce yourself that can also be bad because now you are trying to act like you will be friends and yet they are at work so they have no freedom to say no thanks. If you ever go to Europe your girlfriend should not ask for a name and use that name as that will be considered an insult. Staff at restaurants in Europe would feel that you are patronizing them
