Star Fox 2 is the sequel to the original Star Fox, although the game was completed, it was cancelled due to the release of the upcoming N64 console. It would later be officially released in 2017 on the SNES Classic mini console, and made available on the SNES online library for Nintendo Switch.
YtterbiJum chooses to complete the run with Miyu, his decision based on her superior ship speed and shortest charge shot time.

Note: This run was made long before the game had any official release, and used a prototype rom with a patch that translates and improves the game. As it is a highly extensive modification, it is classified as a hack. See submission for details.
Also, just like with its predecessor ( tasvideos.org/814M ), the game runs faster than it should due to emulation inaccuracies.

The game does run at a locked 20 fps on real hardware though vs inconsistent 10-15 in star fox 1 because of the better chip

With emulators or the overclocked fx chips, this, Star fox 1 and Stunt Race fx feel amazing.

I have officially found Star Fox 2 as the final SNES licensed title. Star Fox 2 being on the SNES Classic and SNES Nintendo Switch Online is why I take Star Fox 2 as the final SNES licensed title.

No, because it was originally going to be released in 1995. The SNES very last game was a Japanese title in 2000.

@@LITTLE1994 OK but technically Star Fox 2 was never released until the SNES Mini's release 5 years ago which means it released 17 years after that Japanese title, making it the last officially licensed NES game

Even though this game is considered a hack, It still contributes to the history of TAS, and future submissions should be regarded as such. "The more, the merrier".

its not a hack, it was an finished but unreleased star fox game that by the time it was completed the n64 was out and nintendo didn't want new game on the snes at that point
the completed rom eventually resurfaced on the net many years later and nintendo acknowledged it's existent enough to include it on the snes mini and and switch online

@@f45411 The game is (now) official, but "this run" is a hack-the description indicates that the run was made well before the official release of the game, using a prototype ROM with patched improvements. Indeed, the in-game dialogue does not match the official release (ex. "IPBMs" are not officially called that).

Nintendo not releasing this game on the original SNES is such a load of bollocks, Mario RPG released in 1996 and it still was a success. Oh well, at least back then a new console was still something to get excited about and not the same as the previous one with slightly better graphics, hundreds of games releasing on both new and old systems, 98% of games being multi-platform garbage and every game being the same, looks and gameplay wise.

From what I recall, Nintendo was worried about it looking awful… 2D games on the SNES could still pull their weight as long as animation and color use was good, but Star Fox 2's graphics really looked dated against what the PS1 and Saturn were putting out (and magazines loved to praise graphics above everything else).
Nowadays we're so far removed from that era that it feels more like aesthetic instead.

@@sikthehedgehog not only that, but they decided to prioritized the N64 which had superior graphics. The Super FX 2 chip was also expensive, and so the finished game would have cost too much for the average player. To be fair, the 3D graphics and gameplay especially hold up against a number of PS1 games. Played through this loved it. Gutted it never came out in the 90s as I was really looking forward to it.

uh? @Terkzorr what you on about? ok just because most games didn't get released or transfered to different console's, people either didn't have enough support for the game to keep it up or people were losing interest. if you really want it back, why don't you request for it to go on every console then!

A master piece wich should,ve to be released but if nintendo want,they could still release it on snes as a 30 year anyversarry of starfox,would be really cool to see it happen if only they could know were to smell the money.
