The Red-Tail is an excellent sloop and one of my favorite boats to sail offering enough broadside cannons to effectively sink another ship into the depths of Sea fairly quickly in calmer waters, after you've upgraded the cannonballs and added extra powder to the guns makes the Red-Tail an efficient boat to sail the dastardly eight sectors.
The red-tail is indeed a fine vessel, though I like the Osprey more. Sure, you may only start with a simple, weak cannon, but it also has a frame piercing explosive shot. Not only that, but it also starts with a rather diverse crew, allowing for easier bilging, sail rigging and navigation. It is definitely a seaworthy ship too.
Tis true that the Osprey is a fairly diverse ship, but although it may be a jack of all trades ship that's where it's weakness also lies. Although I do love the Osprey's main gun. The starter vessel that you're given within the FTL boat game aka The Kestrel is probably by far my favorite warship despite it's starter status.
Indeed. The Kestrel is also a fine schooner. It's guns are balanced, and easy to build upon when reaching more dangerous waters. It's crew is simple, which allows for greater specialization further in.
I didn't even think it was possible with the amount of RNG you'd have to pull off but I guess after six years of playing FTL it was bound to happen one day.
I remember my first win on Easy. My friend introduced me to FTL and I was instantly hooked. I kept losing to the flagship because it's systems were overwhelming me, and I didn't know the patterns well yet. The mind control, cloaking, boarding drone, combined with the triple rocket kept making me lose. My first win came with my ship at 1 HP and the flagship at 2 HP. I only had one crew member left. He was the pilot. My ship was boarded, on fire, and shields were destroyed by enemy boarding party. They were working their way through the doors to invade the helm and take out my piloting/ final crew member. Weapons were almost fully out of commission with the exception of one burst laser. Evade was still at 40% chance, luckily my engines were still mostly operational despite the flames. I thought I had won. Burst laser was fully charged. I shot the burst laser, *boom. miss.* Game over. Flagship still has 1 HP. It shoots its triple burst laser. *Miss. Miss. Miss.* I waited patiently for my burst to charge, hoping the fires wouldn't destroy any of my systems. The *Bloop* sound of the lasers finishing their charge had never sounded so sweet. With the enemy boarding party banging on the door to the helm, I let off my final volley of burst lasers. *boom* First win. It was 2a.m. on a Saturday back in 2018. Fun times :)
O2 and doors weren't broken so potentially they could have moved to one of the bottom rooms which had air and vented the rest of the ship immediately, still a coin toss since they just had one health but maybe.
1st phase: All right shields got hacked but still an easy win 2nd phase: *Boarding drone in pilots, medbay gets nuked by missiles* shaky one but still not bad 3rd phase: *engi is mind controlled boarders everywhere, powers surge lights weapons and shields on fire, second one puts breaches in the everything* Thank you based burst laser Mk 2
So anyways FTL is the game where my shields are ioned, everything is on fire, breaches are everywhere, my hull is at 25%, and I am scared. Pretty good game 10/10
I remember one of my runs with federation A stage 3 flagship, down to two crew, fires everywhere, 3 hit points left and incoming power surge, about to write of the run when my artillery beam at one health and burning comes in with the clutch 5 room cut and wins me the run, currently still my top score run.
@@BlueRiging if you chase it after the first phase, it'll jump right back to the Fed base after you beat the second phase, leaving you without a guaranteed safe place to retreat to if you get overwhelmed by boarders in phase three.
me: oh wow i made it to the 5th sector im so proud of myself also me: yeah sure let's tank my morale with looking at how stupidly powerful this final boss is
I think that last situation is actually still salvageable if only you immediately vent out all the O2 by opening all the airlocks and doors, and quickly running your remaining crew into the quarters opposite of the batteries room.
Yahhhh. Scrolled through dozens of comments to find the steely eyed missile man who spotted the solution. Ahh, the underrated FTL post-fight minigame of how can I save the ship when it's swiss cheese and on fire (and can I do it without making a crewmember take one for the team). Honestly would play the heck out of a damage control scenario pack instead of doing sudoku.
cutting it a little close but nicely done, 1 word with that much fire power is just to focus missiles for the first volley because as you saw missiles pass through everything and do a stupid amount of damage but with 4 shields and a decent bit of dodge you can tank everything else but not the missiles.
Very cool. I think the most BL2s I ever managed to acquire was 3. One thing I would stress is always always take out that triple launcher first thing in every phase. It just does too much bloody damage to ignore. Even with stealth / Defence Drone 1, you can get caught recharging stealth and a lucky volley from that thing knocking out your shields or weapons is enough to turn the fight against you
For me phase 2 is the hardest, cuz of all the drones everywhere. Third phase seems easier to me, as you can just close intruders with doors, and cloak or dodge power surges
It’s even easier when you realize you can “kidnap” the intruders by letting them board you and jumping away, preferably to the federation base where there are no enemies if you timed it right, letting you deal with them with all your attention rather than fighting them alongside the flagship, definitely a desperation play on the flagships part lol
I wonder if Kirby and Feras survived. It is plausible if they could seal themselves in a room and flood the ship before the fire takes away the last point of health.
Small recommendation if it even matters on a 5 year old video, lmao: after taking out thr shields, take out the mind control. It has up to 3 hp only so a single burst will annihilate it completely. Also, send in humans or engis preferrably against mind controlled crew instead of mantises, as else you will just kill your own men. Alternatively, take the hits to the system and regenerate it afterwards once the mind control wears off - with the repair speed buff, your engi should have managed it with ease
these are some great tips for anyone playing ftl, i dont usually play the game in an optimized fashion because otherwise i wouldnt really have fun with it. i gave up stealth. weapon preigniter, and flak guns for the four burst mk2's which is pretty funny but absolutely worth it for the meme material
@@volcomastro stealth is incredibly powerful, if combined with a shield. The problem is that without a shield you will ALWAYS sustain a bunch of damage every fight, only really being capable of going against burst fire (and drones will massacre you), so it's not really usable at the start. However, if you have a shield, stealth can dodge missiles as well as large concentrated volleys so that you don't receive so much burst damage that overwhelms shields - including the drone spam of the flagship. It also prevents all teleportation by the enemy as well as mind control I wouldn't say I play in a fully optimized way, I just got for whatever, but a cloaking system practically makes the flagship trivial
Four burst lasers, with preigniter is literally FTL nirvana. It doesn't get better. I had 3 burst laser IIs, and one burst laser I and it damn near took down phase one with one volley. I showed those rebel scum...

Two bl2 is basically enough already and I've killed flagship many times with just that. Cloaking can be very annoying to deal with early game especially on hard but late game is very overpowered.
@@volcomastro Did you buy all four of them? It's hard to believe they were all found in stores. I don't think I've ever found more than 2 in stores on a single run.
I didn't see this comment but I was surprised with the run, which is why I even bothered recording this. The reason I survived that long was because of the oxygen room upgrade. Four layer shield if you can afford it with the battery is wonderful and gives you a lot breathing room. Not having to worry about that, Weapons was a priority which I was gifted by RNGesus with four burst laser 2's. Sorry, but we start to thinking what is right, maybe the right choice is helping rebels, just see here in 2020 what Government is doing for the people, they close small and medium business and every work is fired, if we do what is right, we need to join the pirates, rebels, in that case mean freedom to people.
The Rebels are an extremely xenophobic pro-human faction, hell they don't even crew the Engi aboard their ships... At most, I've seen the Rebels help a few civilians in the last stand with supplies and evacuation efforts. But between you and I, the only reason they did that is because that was a mostly human colony. Throughout the entire game you see the Rebels attacking civilian ships and colonies. Same with their automated drone ships as well. We don't really know how or why the Rebels formed. Perhaps it was the old mantis wars that caused this, or potentially the other alien races kept pressuring humans into conflict and wars. Whatever the reason the Rebels are clearly a lot more powerful than the Federation and they don't like the other alien races. To the point where there is potential for almost every alien race to help you on your journey either by giving you supplies or ships. That's how much the galaxy fears the rebellion. That it could unite every single alien race to the cause of the Federation. Before this civil war though? Most alien races either didn't care about the Federation or outright hated them with the exception of only the Engi. I don't know if the Federation are the good guys or not. But the Rebels are definitely really bad. They constantly prove their downright evil actions with what they do.
