You never seen Ponyo?! How could you live a life like that?! my condolence... Joking aside, that painting is great as usual! And yes, Ponyo is my favorite Studio Gibli's Movies of all time
I did a lot of lightfastness tests with poster colors and there's only TWO fugitive colours which are violet pale and chrome green. Everything else kept their vibrancy, I've done this test for a lot of supplies and it's just a massive myth they aren't lightfast. They just aren't TESTED for lightfastness.
Wow, just ... wow! As someone who struggles a lot with gouache I’m just in awe of what you managed to achieve here with your humble poster paints! We used a type of gouache or poster paint or something like that in school and all my results were just horrible. Now many years later I’ve been practicing a bit with gouache and things have improved somewhat, but even the best of my results are nowhere near this wonderful piece you have created here! Art goals, right there!
Just wonderful! I’ll have to try that technique of wetting both sides of the paper and see how it works for the paper I have. Ponyo is one of my kids favorite films. Their favorite scene is Ponyo and Sosuke having tea and ramen. ☺️ When my kids go out to play in the snow, I always have a warm cup of hot cocoa ready for them when the come inside and I know it’s one of those memories they’ll remember when they’re older.
Caran d’Ache Neocolor Pastels bring me back to my childhood 😢 my first profesional “art material” that my mom brought me from Switzerland because I started oil painting lessons (I was 6), I didn’t learned how to use them until I got into art school many years later! I still have the tin box with a few remains and I don’t use them anymore, but it’s something I really cherish.
Oh my gooosh the lighting! The way it transitions from blue to yellow where the sunlight hits the buildings and telephone masts! This is such a beautiful painting, so inspiring!
I hope see more of your poster color painting. I love how they are pigmented like paint but can be soft like wwatercolor by changing the way of you using them. Plz more 👏❤️
Thanks for this demonstartion and giving us solid insight on paper, colour reaction and of course your personal thoughts and what inspired this video! Glad you had the opportunity to go see that screening and thanks for taking the time to film and share this video with us! Have a good day - cheers
Seeing you walking through streets of Japan makes me want to go back there sooooo much! Beautiful painting, I would never have thought of using poster paints for ‘proper’ artwork but you have shown me otherwise! Looking forward to the next great price you are working on 😉
Once again thank you so much for sharing. Your art is wonderful and we can clearly see the evolution in your technic which is stunning! Kana and you are so cute and lovely by the way, I hope you enjoyed the delicacy and force of Ponyo
Wow thats so cool, I like how this turned out the lighting is really really nice I also like the use of pencil for the cables. Thanks for sharing your inspiration really shows in this one.
Woooow I really salute youuu! I've been using poster colors for now because it's the only thing I can afford but then you're here to inspire me again... you inspire us, keep doing videos! Luv yaaa
Excellent video, sir. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I look forward to the day you decide to use poster colours for your backgrounds in future comics, you have a beautiful style. Lots of love from Malaysia!
this the first time i saw that technique with poster colors... at uni they taught me using it with not much water so the paint will be solid and thick.... but this looks like(kind of) watercolor or something. interesting. gonna try it someday... thanks for sharing :D
Wow such a beautiful painting. I didn't knew about the poster colors not being archival. Price wise make sense I think. It makes me wonder about all the wonderful work of Mr. Oga Kazuo that maybe will not last for generations. It makes me kind of sad. Thanks for sharing. (and man, great moustache. Keep it. )
The depth you achieved is just stunning! At first I thought the thumbnail for the video was a photo! Very inspiring! I also adore Ghibli films, and I'm glad you and Kana (sp?) got to see it in theatre!
I love how this piece turned out! I asked you once in a livestream if you ever tried poster colors before and you said that you did. Now, it’s really nice to finally see you use it in a video. I have used poster colors once but I was pretty bad at it. Seeing you paint with it has given me ideas on how I may go about using it. This gives me inspiration to revisit the medium again. Thank you so much for sharing your process!
This is amazing 😍😍😍😍😍 i never knew why poster colors are available when no one uses it 😅😅 now get to know about it. 🤣 Thank you so much for this info. Love you artwork. Your amazing artist. Wanna learn from you sensei 😊😊😊
This is so beautiful! And I also recently watched Ponyo with my mom (who had not seen it yet) and she loved every second of it eventhough she doesn't understand much what they're saying (her native language is spanish). But your artwork always amazes me and those techniques are so smooth and nice, and I am so glad you share your process and information on how you executed your work. 😊
Loved the result! Translates the mood so well. Also, that video in the beginning was beautifully shot and edited. Makes me want to visit Japan even more ^_^
The TMK paper looks to me like regular heavy weight cartridge paper. That is the reason why they wet it on both sides. There is no other way to paint with water media on cartridge papers. You have to prewet them on both sides and then either let it dry on the desk if you want to work in smaller areas or apply the base layers or backgrounds wet on wet.
this is absolutely amazing! I just have a question: what makes a background look anime-style? I'm trying to delve into the realm of painting anime backgrounds but indoors, but they don't seem to look anime-style, so I'm just curious about what elements make a background look like it is an anime background? Thank you so much!
I guess that keeping the amount of details to a certain level, (not overdoing them but also not painting to vague). Just have a look at Ghibli backgrounds to get some tips from there.
''I'm not an expert in poster colors'' goes and paints a masterpiece
I laughed so much from this comment, you are right. Maybe it is artist humour we developed. He he.
I don't no why but the painting feels alive.
You never seen Ponyo?! How could you live a life like that?! my condolence...
Joking aside, that painting is great as usual! And yes, Ponyo is my favorite Studio Gibli's Movies of all time
never in the cinema :) We have a blu-ray disc. I like Ponyo very too, especially recently.
Typical
Awesome demonstration. I’m always happy when I see you’ve posted a new video. Thank you!

Wait… Ponyo is TEN YEARS OLD already??
This was my exact thought!! 😂
Your "Night at Tokyo" artbook is an absolute masterpiece. The only artbook I ever bought

Saving this to study how to use paper and painting techniques
This video helped me so much with nicker paints. I had problems with cracking because I layered too much paint. Thank you
This is just breath-taking and delightful. And I have to say the two of you make the most adorable couple.
No way! Its sooo beautiful. ❤
I hope see more of your poster color painting. I love how they are pigmented like paint but can be soft like wwatercolor by changing the way of you using them. Plz more 👏❤️
Maybe one of my favorite illustration from you! The ambiance is amazing and the details are on point. Congrats!
I saw Ponyo when it hit the US theaters, it was the last 35mm feature film I recall seeing on film!
Im so happy for this ponyo is one of my top fave ghibli movie... 😊
Thanks for this demonstartion and giving us solid insight on paper, colour reaction and of course your personal thoughts and what inspired this video! Glad you had the opportunity to go see that screening and thanks for taking the time to film and share this video with us! Have a good day - cheers

4:00) for some reason once the intial paper wash is dried, the color seems to not reactivate as eaily
You inspire me to draw. I do 3D drawings, but nothing comes to the beauty of his drawings. Congratulations my friend for the excellent work you do.
