So beautiful to watch! I love how he works for about an hour and stop to contemplate what he has done. Love how he’s talks about his vision for this scene.
I like listening to this in the background sometimes while I work, because I don't understand what he's saying but I can feel the ambience. The ticking clock punctuating the silence especially reminds me of sitting in my grandmother's house on a rainy afternoon.
The quality of Japanese anime and Manga is breathtaking, especially when I remind myself of how often the artists are expected to churn out highest quality work. Even one page from a great Manga is astonishing-- then I remind myself of the artist's workload, the volume of art of that exact quality which is being churned out with such overlooked, underappreciated speed. I can't wait to go back to Japan after this wretched lockdown is eased and travel restrictions are lifted.
So, so beautiful! Almost like a blurry photograph when looked at from a distance, which is that mistiness the artist said he wanted to capture. The patience and vision, technique and talent ... wow, just incredible. Thank you! Very inspiring!
Well, I have never used poster paints, but the effects are quite lovely! It appears to apply like acrylic, yet those misty trees have the appearance of watercolor. Just a pleasure to watch a skilled master at work. Thank-you! 🙂
The music, train sounds and other sounds in the room compliment the beauty of the video! And the painting looks beautiful! It’s so calming and lovely to see the creation of the finished product! :) amazing! I don’t know why, but I loved it to even see the painting instruments being cleaned and put away in the end! 😆❤️
the title says it all "The Master's Workshop" I'm amazed at how he just knows how much of each color he dips the brush in will give him the blend he needs.
You never actually know. You just go by instinct and touch. This was all about experience and the amount of time in doing it. He stated at the start you can't predict how things will turn out. And you never can with paint unless you color cel animation by hand since you apply the "float" technique when doing that. And even then, you can assume so much if you aren't consistent with your paint colors and floating. It only seems that way to you since he is good at what he is doing. If you paint you know.
A good Japanese artist to emulate and study if your trying to paint like Oga Kazuo would be Kawai Gyokudo. That period of nihonga school where western elements are mixed with more older Japanese traditional painting is in my opinion the origin of ‘Ghibli look’.
I love how modest is he talking about the process of his work, he has no prob with saying I don't know if this is the roght color or I can't predict the result, I just try...just wow I think young artists can learn a lot from this
This artwork is so aesthetically appealing! I can't find words to describe! P.S. Trains and cicadas on the background are the most japanese sounds ever.
Such an honor to watch you create this beautiful landscape! You really hit the sweet spot with those paulownia trees! Absolutely perfect! You know they are the focus but everything else perfectly supports the scene without distracting. I love how you make poster paint look so versatile. It looks like watercolor in some parts of the scene and gouache in other areas. I’ve used gouache at times but haven’t managed to achieve areas of transparency as you did. The difference was wetting the paper well I think.
he uses the paint brushes and holds them the same way a calligrapher would do, so much control in his wrist. he even 懸腕 at some points, but with the same amount of control…… amazing
If that painting paid for the week's bills then what life is this? Has he already gone to heaven? Now what I liked about the painting... yes he was correct in that he fine tuned it to appear after a rain and maybe a slight cool down as the mist rose from the ground in the distance. I like how it doesn't look forced but rather natural.. how the trees stretch to the sky in similar contorting spirals.. and how one can almost smell and hear this scene. It's very simple painting but tells the story with full impact. Notice the one branch that stands out... instead it grows way out there as to say "I will not dwell in the shade of those above but I will stretch forth my growth to absorb all that the sun has to offer."
He more than likely uses natural hair brushes. Which are the easiest to keep pointed. Also, he applies light strokes. He isn't putting that much pressure on the brush. It's all in the type of brush and how you maintain them. This video should help you get a clear idea on how to clean them and keep them fine. ua-cam.com/video/GL-TgxXXRx0/v-deo.html
I promise you this, as much as they hype it, A.I. will NEVER get HERE.
I love how happy he is with his work! He can't stop looking at it....such a good feeling!

He is as soft and gentle than his work. What a wonderful workshop.
Beautiful brushwork and depth. That painting is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your talent.
If only Kazuo Oga had a twitch creative channel! I would watch that everyday :3
That would be so cool!
Probably doesn't own a computer which is probably a good thing
@Douglas Njoku This is smart.. Bots using two accounts to add believability. I've seen this exact conversation before on another video.

This is so beautiful! The 150 people who disliked this - I feel sorry for them. They are unable to see beauty in simplicity!
I love how "rough" it is close, but beautiful from further. That's like impressionism 2.0.

Artists who paint from memory have the clearest visions. Such beautiful work.

The beautiful art painted by the heart of humanity, it’s truly joyful to see it.
人の優しで描く、自然の美しさ。本当に素敵です。
Such a humble yet talented human being! No wonder he paints so beautifully, as the beauty of the soul always finds a way to shine through.
i've watched this video about 10 times and don't plan on stopping!

OMG...the colour the dept the serenity...i could close my eyes and transport myself to that landscape...💗
So that is how a master does things. Even the ground work looks beautiful and complete! Great work!!
Wonderful to watch, very talented artist. I love the Ghibli studio. Let's hope Disney doesn't erode a great heritage.

Master of watercolor!

im still learning to painting like him and other japanese artists using watercolor and postercolor since 2019, and it's quite difficult

Mr. Oga , this is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing your painting and your thoughts.

the Intro song is so chill I can picture myself listening to it while in my coffin
Goodness !!!!!!!!!
Chasing the feeling, without rushing the process. 💜
"La Barranquillera y La Farza" deberia ver y practicar esto un millon de veces
Absolutely stunning 😍 so delicate yet somehow powerful in the imperfect beauty of nature perfectly captured. Amazing.
Beautifull! Thank you. Merci! 存在してくれてありがとう!
Every millimetre is divine. What a Master.
The sound of the clock ticking, then the train goes by.. I was there.. looking over his shoulder. 🌈❤
Beautiful work, thank you for sharing and recording this session❤
This artwork is so aesthetically appealing! I can't find words to describe!
P.S. Trains and cicadas on the background are the most japanese sounds ever.
Such beautiful work and what a serene atmosphere he created.
You can see the sincerity and love he puts into his work. Amazing.
the ceramics he mixes his paints on is art itself ✨
His original sketch was so detailed. He used colour pencils too.
Such a beautiful painting. Incredible technique!
What a lovely painting, thank you so much for this tutorial. I truly enjoyed it!
So delicate and beautiful. You are so talented. Thank you for the english subtitles.
your smile at the end tipped this off as satisfaction accomplished l love your painting
I love so much your paintings. They have much sensibility.
Arigatō
It’s awesome! The painting recreates the atmosphere of the place.
I like the ceramic mixing plates. Never thought of that. I used the plastic ones i bought in art store.
This is so beautifully inspiring! Thank you, Mr. Oga!
にほんが ありがとう Beautiful work 🙂🎨🙏
I don't know but this is so soothing like i feel calm love the vibes
Love Ghibli Studio's Anime. Thanks for artist!
I feel Blessed for watching this
Loved his painting and the workspace.

I was so inspired as a artist to watch a pro!
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing this with us! What an amazing artist! Now I'd love to buy one of his pieces!
A mystical experience. Thank you.
So beautiful and peaceful.
Que lindo. Ele me transmite uma satisfação enorme ao ver sua arte finalizada. Alguém que realmente faz porque sente alegria em fazer.
One has to be an amazing artist to use intuition, like he said
master craftsman. he was so happy after finishing the painting
I really admire him for staying focused even when someone with a camera watches him. I hate it when someone watches me when doing I'm art
This is good cuz im here trying to get back to drawing and I like this style a lot
Absolutely Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent.
He seems to have a gentle soul
he uses the paint brushes and holds them the same way a calligrapher would do, so much control in his wrist. he even 懸腕 at some points, but with the same amount of control…… amazing
Mr #KazuoOga Muchísimas Gracias, ver su trabajo es inspirador, es tan hermoso. 🙂🙂🙂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 🇵🇪
so beautiful....its so hard though ;w; he makes beautiful work!
So gorgeous and the intro looks like a still from Doraemon:))))
intuition has a big part to play in colour... the technical side moves away
Even the palette is work of art. I can see abstract image in it❤️ sadly i cant find poster color here but just bought gouache.
Judge from all of his work in Ghibli movies i think this is equal "daily sketches for entertaining fans" for him
I could try a hundred times without getting even close to this masterly performance.
I wish i had a father like Kazuo Oga🤩❤❤
Wonderful use of poster color for the creation of a very beautiful work ... Sir Salute to you.
ワークスペースが美しい
Wonderfully calming, helped by the ticking of the clock.
Simplicity is genius.
Fragility, simplicity, majesty.
the cicada sounds. my god Japan is a dreamworld.
I am so inspired. Thank you.
Estupendo Mtro. Kazuo. Mis respetos
Amazing artwork.

This was so beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing!
Very informative indeed! Great Tips, thanks for sharing!
What sort of brushes is he using? That big brush can go to an incredibly fine point! Can't get that from my western sables
He more than likely uses natural hair brushes. Which are the easiest to keep pointed. Also, he applies light strokes. He isn't putting that much pressure on the brush.

No music? That's amazing!
Qué belleza! Los trazos son tan sutiles y cóo asemeja esa sensación de misterio en medio de un paisaje lluvioso.
I love the work of Studio Ghibli - always wondered about the artists behind the studio. Thanks for the tour and art lesson!
It’s very delicately beautiful
OKAY SO HOW IS HIS EYESIGHT THAT GOOD??!! I'm only like 16 and even I would eyestrain for that
