@@zeeoh5466 the Game gets you hooked, it begins with a mystery that evolves into a love story and a clash of memories (SPOILERS: your memories and those of your "Engramm" as you are a Biotic human based on a human Engramm)
The Story involves fulfilling a Promise: that of seeing your love just one more time.
The Game devolves from clean corridors and aggressive architecture into hellscapes and living rooms, it gets harder, more depressing and utterly overwhelming BUT back there, in the far distance a light shines: You have made a Promise! You will fulfill it.
While playing the game you also sporadically and in shattered memories relieve "reality" as to what is actually going on and where you actually are as it becomes apparent rather quickly that you are not in the real world for most of the game (hard to explain)
Skipping a bunch of very well written lore and story, you manage to reawake in the real world onboard a ship abanonded by the nation made it, only constructed as a show of force with no way home and it's two crew members intended to die alone in the vastness of space.
You and Arianna
Now you must fullfil your promise, wich in reality is to reawake arianna from hypersleep and to kill her.
That is what makes the game great, it is not constant depression but a subversion of expectations, it shows you a flicker of light and while it makes it look like the promise is to save or see Arianna, it never actually states that.
The game sucks you in, and only when you are done with it does it rip all that hope from you and leave you abandoned and broken.
It is a great game and a masterclass of writing.
@@zeeoh5466 I mean that the themes are oppressive, but it found a way to appeal to me in a more personal note, even if my original comment didn't convey that. Sometimes and without speaking too personally, something has to put you in a bad head space for things to get better.

Holy fuck I just got it. elster is a robot, by helping her fulfil her promise or even run away weake her more than a robot, more than a machine that just follows orders and decides. The crazy wackadoodle story is meant to emphasize that. Only something sentient would even bother to make sense of let alone find meaning the fantastical and the abstract for something as flimsy as a promise.
