I just watched your video today good job, pls how do I get a flat to rent in the city you? What are the criteria? Rent and how many months deposit??
Jamal, I really love your enthusiasm and your view on our country. In a time when we need some positivity you always come through. You have a stronger bulgarian spirit than most natives. I really hope you settle down and live in Bulgaria as long as you like. We need more people like you! You give serious confidence boost to a nation which is majorly under-appreciated by its own people.
Wish you all the best!
Hey Jamal,
so glad you are doing that...thank you!!!
I was born in Bulgaria but lived abroad for half of my life. My husband is British and we both lived in Canada until a few months ago. We came back last fall and decided to stay here.... for all of the reasons you mentioned and more!!! We are in Plovdiv, and if we see you, we are going to say 'hi'!!
Thanks, Jamal, I will keep watching your informative videos!!
I'm from bulgaria and I'm so happy to see this vidio and I'm gonna follow you for ever!!🇧🇬🇧🇬❤🇧🇬
In terms of the food - Local produce (fruits and veggies) is amazing and much better than in the UK, for example, even though bigger supermarkets love to import and sell lower-quality produce from abroad (Poland, Turkey, Greece, etc). Maybe it's cheaper for them, idk, but depending on the season you can find good Bulgarian produce as well. 'Exotic' produce, such as avocados, is best to be avoided as they're usually overprised as hell and with lower quality than the ones you could find in a Western country. Fruits like raspberries, blueberries and blackberries are expensive as well, even though we produce them. I personally found those fruits cheaper and more affordable in the UK than in Bulgaria for whatever reason. The same goes for avocados, bananas, mangos, iceberg lettuce(strange, I know) and more. On the good side, tomatoes, apples and most vegetables tend to be considerably better, even if they're bought from the supermarket.
There's also the problem of noticable double standards in quality for products from Western brands (mainly confectionary). For example, the Nutella in Bulgaria tastes different than the one in Germany or the UK, because it's lower quality and the ingredients are in slightly different proportions than usual (It's still not bad though haha). This practice in theory should be illegal in the EU, but companies do it and try to justify it with the 'different consumer tastes in the different markets' which ,in the case of confectionary, is absolute BS. Just wanted to clarify this for a better understanding for whoever's interested. Those are just my observations obviously, somebody else could have a different opinion.

😂😂😂
is this fair since you made the video? lol
You forgot to mention the amazing internet in Bulgaria!
if you live in a small remote village like Raduntsi you do not get unlimited internet like you would in a larger city such as Stara Zagora, as you can only get service from VivaComs' Mobix and it is a limited; well as an online gamer it feels limited. A1 service does not work up in Raduntsi in any form. If you are in a city or village just outside the city the internet is great and unlimited.
@@OmegaWalple idk but the Internet speed in Varna is insane
That's right amazing, the internet
In Sofía too?
@@javier6776 I'm not too sure about sofia tbh. I would assume it would be great in sofia since it is the capital but then again it is a very dense city so that might hinder with internet speed a little.
Another beautiful video for my country. You are doing really good advirtising of the life in Bulgaria and exactly of Plovdiv-my home town. I love your enthusiasm and positive vibrations. Continue in the same way to present my country to the world. We need this one. 👍🏻💜
Thank you for the kind words. Can't wait to make more and share the beauty of this part of the world!
I own my apartment I'm from in Sofia and I spend around 5000BGN every month , but I eat out all the time I buy myself expensive clothes, I have an expensive car and so on. You can live with 1000BGN you can live with 10,000BGN your lifestyle just changes when you make more money. Love the videos
Sounds like a lot for Bulgaria ! You must be having an awesome time, nice :D
You send me whatsapp
great video thanks jamal! i love so much bulgaria. i live in israel but i visit a lot of my time in sofia. i love bulgaria i hope i can move to buglaria very soon with my buglarian citizenship. i was in plovdiv about 1 year so great place ! i hope to see you next time i visit in plovdiv :)
Fresh produce in Bulgaria blows UK produce out the water. Sounds silly but I miss the tomatoes and cucumbers - taste is out of this world
Go on Jamal!
Great content... I am considering Bulgaria and came across your channel. Keep up the great work.
You should buy a house in the village and rent the apartment out.
Jamal thanks for this stuff. Just moved here couple of months ago after 15 yrs in UK. ... Just want to say local wine is amazing. Never before have drank wine with every dinner (like locals do here) but I'm getting closer to it by day :) what a life!!!
Haha the next level, after you master whine is Rakija, the final boss. :D
Bulgaria here i come
Superb vid. You summed up this topic perfectly.
I’d say Sofia, is way more expensive than a village, as you said J. I was Plovdiv, way previous week. Total distance I include return journey 300km bike ride from Yambol. Plovdiv, city centre is vastly improved from my last trip there. Another reason I love 💔 Bulgaria, always improving. Yambol, I’ve a buddy pays 100 leva a month for a cramped apartment in the centre. Low quality low price deals are out there if you want to land here without any financial concern.
glad to hear somebody who is happy here : )
this guy is awesome
You can add the cheap public transport as well.
Liker to see videos like that mate ;) keep it up !
have a great day
Thanks mate. Many more coming!
@@ChadandJamal Can't wait to see them!
I will go there BG Sofia
to the point 7:00 if you want to hear the cost.
Ty for video. My husband and I are retired but might visit Bulgaria. Wishing you and your girlfriend all the best.
Great video, I look forward to seeing the village and buy property videos.
What an amazing video! I got nauseated from the flat tour 🤢😂 but apart from that your video is amazing, really appreciate it! I am from Bulgaria living in the UK. I miss Sofia but I was too cold for me! I love Plovdiv as it is the warmest large city in Bulgaria but salaries for English speaking jobs like customer service are not that good while rent is still almost as high as in Sofia. This is the only reason why I am not living in Bulgaria and especially in Plovdiv right now. I really hope that this will change in the future as I'm in love with Plovdiv and its beautiful nature and culture!!! Thank you for the amazing video! We need more people like you!!!
Hi jamál i planinng to go next year to Bulgaria i love your vídeos blessing
GREAT VIDEO BULGARIA IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED COUNTRY ITS BEAUTIFUL
Fair prices!
If you come to live in Yambol for example which is closer to seaside and smaller rent and food prices would be lower and atmosphere still fine but more relaxed compared to PLovdiv.
That's a BEAUTIFUL apartment! Food prices seem comparable to southeast USA where I live now. What town(s) would you say to AVOID, and which ones have good potential to get a nice house with a garden/yard?
I’m really looking forward the village life videos!
Thanks for the video!
Firsttt
Rents for home equivalent to Jamal's are running at least 3 times those in Bulgaria!
If you like wines , I recommend you to visit Starosel (it's near Plovdiv). There Teroar wine is amazing. :)
Hey Jamal, I will more than likely be moving to Bulgaria in a few months time. Excited ! Not certain about which place to pick for renting. I assume you are a bit biased towards Plovdiv, but what which place would you recommend for an expat around your age who likes entertaining and lively places ? Plovdiv ? Sofia ? Vargas or Burgas maybe ? :D
Plovdiv or Sofia in my opinion. Plovdiv leans more towards nature/quality of life while Sofia is more hustle bustle.
Varna is nice city, if u want to live near the beach. It's quite crowded tho. 😅
GO TO 7:00 IF YOU JUST WANT NUMBERS
Thanks a lot for all the infos! If you rent an appartment...is the procedere difficult? For example if you want to rent an appartment in greece you will drive crazy...there are tons of stupid things you have to do...never rent an app. again in greece...
Leva is very strong!
I know I'm an odd one on this, but I like living in old buildings.
Hello Jamal 😅 ! What is Sofia like in your opinion ? Much love from Romania ❤
First😂
Do you know if plovdiv is considered dog friendly? In terms of renting apartments?
Great stuff. What's the nicest town in Bulgaria, off the tourist list?
Plovdiv or Veliko Tarnovo
good work
Hey I'm to Bulgaria as a student and my background family is not strong to send me money in bulagaria... As a student how I'm earn in this country plz tell? And whats about accommodation ?
Hey Jamal, at what website i can look for rent/buying in bulgaria? sofia or plovdiv, thank!
@Jamal great video. You really made me want to move to there. I have one question: What is the process to register like a freelance worker there?
I can only speak for the EU however it was super easy for me. After 3 months or so you simply register for a long term residence permit. Requirements are health insurance and a rental agreement. You will need a native Bulgarian/translator though.
@@ChadandJamal Thank you, I speak about EU. This is for register like a business? What is the costs?
Are electricity and heating costs included with the apartment rent? Many reports about homes not adequately heated in winter because of cost.
Bills are typically not included. They usually run me around 50 euro a month in the winter. I think it's relatively expensive for locals in villages but not for foreigners.
😃
When you give the prices 250-350 euro for rent, is that per week, per month? You don't mention the time interval.
If I wanted to pay 12 months rent upfront, would I get a better deal?
Getting my 2nd passport (EU) at the moment, thinking about relocating to Bulgaria in the next 12-24 months
per month unsure about 12 month deals depends on the situation
@@ChadandJamal 250-350 euro per month rent is insanely cheap. Thank you for the video & reply!
@@qetoinfinity2086 if you Google say, property to rent in Plovdiv, look for the Indomio.bg result and go from there. Apartments seem insanely cheap.
High end gym for 30 is nothing. Comparing that to David Lloyds, it pales in comparison.
Well that's good content... but let your fallowers know also what is the avarage wage per month in Bulgaria
I've spoken about the wage many many times.
@@ChadandJamal my bad then mate
Hi Jamal, is the rent 250 to 300 euro for a month or a week?
Per month.
Is it possible to emigrate from the USA and buy a cheap home with cash? So I don’t have to worry about rent, and only worry about travel expenses, health insurance, etc…
Nothing stopping you. The $ trades good for BGN, so thats a bonus for you. Apartments/Houses vary depending on location/city etc. but I bought a small apartment for 25k eur. But im not in Plovdiv/Sofia.
How can I get a flat for 2 to 3 months in plovdiv even the lease maybe be 6 to 12 months long and how much would that cost me? I'm coming from the UK?
Check expats in plovdiv FB group and expats in fb property group for places. Cost will be between £200-350 a month depending on size and location.
Could you add how much it costs for transportation and for internet?
I pay 19.60 BGN or less than 10 eur for 150Mbps unlimited connection. The cheapest unlimited offer is 14.00 BGN which is 7eur for 70Mbps.
Hi. What about jobs.
Show the local food and farm.

How is it if you are a vegan, lactoseintolerant or have IBS and can't eat dairy, gluten etc. Is it easy to find food that fit certain needs?
Sure you'd be fine. The food selection is no different than in the West (supermarkets). Restaurants may be more difficult.
Most places in Bulgaria have their own fresh produce markets/farmers markets. that includes some of the villages. in general you can find better quality produce there than the big supermarket chains and often it is cheaper too..and often BIO without the label. you can also find local producers that will deliver directly to you at lower prices and better quality that the supermarkets. Delivery services work quite well in Bulgaria, so you can get anything delivered to you from the opposite part of the country in a day max and eveb for smaller orders. So no.need to limit yourself to a couple of the bigger cities. Traditionally Bulgarians eats lots of veggies, so finding good quality and variety is never an issue. Also we get a lot of good quality products from our neighbouring countries like Greece and Turkey, esp thing we do produce like olives, citrus fruit, etc. We also like our dairy products so restaurants more often than not have vegetarian and not vegan options...but this depends. there are vegan restaurants too in sofia and some of the bigger cities. Vegans should not have any issues in Bulgaria, esp. if you like Mediterranean style food.
In the cities you can find all the vegan, gluten free, sugar free products you may wish. There are also specialized shops and restaurants for healthy and super foods. You can buy freshly squeezed juices, nuts and try fruits on every step. If you are in the villages, you will probably eat home grown food from A-Z. It is a very good thing for any person diet, as you will be eating fresh food with no colorings, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, extra salted or sweet. If you are coming from a high processed food environment, you will have the opportunity to clean your taste and rediscover even the most basic foods you eat regularly.
I should really move to Bulgaria 😫
Come on bro, we need animalfood.
Are those rental prices per week?
monthly
When it comes to cost, yeah, sure, its cheap. Heck, you can find houses which sell for around 200 leva in remote tiny villages. The real problem are the wages and the corruption. Go to northwest Bulgaria, in Vratsa, Belogradchik, Vidin and you will be horrified by the living conditions there. Many deserted places, heavily degraded infrastructure, people with no jobs, people with jobs but extremely low wages.
Where are those houses for 200 leva? I want to buy 10
@@thommassful Are places, or entire villages that are free. Only have to have a development plan and money to bring to fruition. Not really free. Find village properties that require work from very low price. Note J’s mention of the foreigner tax. Some locals do inflate prices.
Ok, I will take that as " there are no 200 lv. houses"
@@thommassful My experience your conclusion is correct. Four thousand Euro yes, if you don’t mind living within extreme poverty, or a tumble down. But few if one will sell to foreigner at those prices these days. The value is in the land and what you can do with the land. Not unheard of that a person builds a barn and it’s a modern liveable house (illegal without mayoral consent, as no property tax is paid). Fact, I know one man that lives in a shed, no joke, he lives in his shed imported from the UK, all year round. Property tax is in the best villages approximate fifty euro a year and where I frequent my house (minus land) property tax costs less than a Euro per year.
@@e-bikerbulgaria and this is why anytime I go with my wife to buy something I play a mute so we avoid those taxes or inflated prices.
second lol
hi lets say I have 2000 BGN a month is it good enough to life in Sofia? (without rent, I will live with relatives)
Yep is more than fine
You will be okay, that's a relatevely common salary in Sofia. But don't expect luxury or something.
Any decent health insurance company?
www.foreigner.bg/medical-insurance-foreigners-bulgaria/
Decent article on it. Unsure about companies tbh (i'm still using an EHIC).
Thanks for the info Jamal. Do you know if it's possible to rent a furnished apartment for 3 months?
It should be. Your best bet would be the expats in Plovdiv/Sofia groups or rent in Plovdiv/Sofia groups. You can also try message people on airbnb to negotiate. Aside from that if you have a way to get into contact with landlords you'll easily be able to work something out as there's an abundance of empty properties.
Hey Jamal, Is it me or are you loosing the Brummie Accent ? Or you have finally come to the logical conclusion there's not much point in following the Villa in Chat Rooms or Pod Cast 🤣🤣🤣👍
Wow! so, one could survive on
600 -700 euros
Survive yes however if you really want to enjoy life as a foreigner you'll need more.
@@ChadandJamal Off course 😁
@Stephen Murphy It'll be fine but you won't be flush. Providing you don't want to save/aren't going on trips often it'll work for a decent standard of living.
Plz speak bg
This guy thinks $2-$3 is overpriced for movie popcorn! LMAO!!
