Had to look it up but here’s a translation of the message her father left her. To Rin From: Dad “There was far too little time left after you were born. I wonder how much love I was able to show after your mother passed... Seeing you cheerful and well gave your old man courage. It really would have been better if we could have gone together, but I couldn't make it work. I thought I wanted you to forget everything and go forward...knowing you, you'll be okay. You'll realize your loneliness, and surely remember me. I believe that you'll grow strong and read this letter. I wish we could have made more memories. I'm sorry. When you were little you probably didn't understand well, but now you should. I'll say the words from that day once more.” He made her forget until she reached a age she would be able to understand. Shelter makes me tear up every time I watch it. It’s so beautiful 😭❤️
I have a suggestion. "Mystery skulls -Magic Animatic". This is a fan animation for a mystery skulls video that was never fully animated but was so good that the band loved it. So much so that when it was taken down to due someone's action the band themselves stepped in to get it reinstated because they loved it so much.
Porter Robinson is one of my favorite artists of all time. His music has something special to it. With that said, some songs I would recommend are "Something Comforting", "Divinity", "Sad Machine", and "Lionhearted". There are more but those are just some personal favorites!
Seeing how much you enjoyed this I highly recommend listening to some of TheFatRat's songs. The three I would recommend are unity, hiding in the blue, and the storm. But there are many other great songs!
This is an incredible throwback. I haven't heard Porter Robinson in years. I miss the old early 2000s when songs like this were popular. Never saw the animation/video though! It's drop dead gorgeous
I am REALLY glad you did this one! Just a fantastic gut wrenching collab from 3 countries (Madeon is from France, Porter from the US, and A1 Pictures from Japan).
Gods I remember when this blew up and it was everywhere, definitely one of my favourite short story animations!! Been a long time since I listened to the song, glad you brought it back to my attention!!
Porter Robinson himself has also talked about this: My absolute favorite thing in music -- art, more broadly -- is when it captures an overwhelmingly bittersweet feeling. When it perfectly marries grief & loss with hope & joy. As Porter put it (to paraphrase), it's when "someone can't leave because they're sick, but you're going to do everything you can to make them feel better." It's a powerful emotion that he just _gets,_ and I adore his music for it. The other example that just nails it: If you're ever watched "Your Lie in April", it's during the final duet (you know the one) -- it's the first note that Kaori plays.
Shelter's music video always manages to make me tear up by the end of it tbh it's heart wrenchingly beautiful with how well the visuals and the music all come together.
i showed this to my friend and she cried a lot. this is why i love anime. they can do stuff that normal movies are limited at. like showing emotions and expresions and all sort of things. animation can show 1:1 how far human imagination can go and show it to the rest of the world, while movies have thousands of limitations like the actors, their skill and acting, the dangers of stuns places they film, and the standard for movies and how they are "suposed to be" so that people will like them there is a reason why anime live action or disney live actions are always so baaaad. they just cant show all those details of animations
Yo, glad you reacted to this! Everything about Shelter is amazing. Some of the elements in this track like the funkiness and the vocal chops are more of Madeon's style. I think you'd really like his stuff, too. If you wanted to give Madeon a try, I'd recommend either Miracle from his latest album, or if you'd like to see what viral video/track got him his start, lookup "Pop Culture" on UA-cam, which is a live mash-up of 39 different songs. It's still a dope track and still just as impressive a decade later.
I'm super happy you've done this! I actually also recommended it on the last porter video xD super happy! I also recommend "Goodbye to a world" by Porter Robinson. It's a bit of an odd song but still amazing.
Ahh, I love watching Shelter reactions. You can pretty much always see the exact moment someone goes from vibing to the music to figuring out what's really going down.
Just watched it again before this. Was a refresher because it has been a while for me. If I remember this was a collaboration of people in three different countries
Not only was the animation made specifically for the song's music video, but when Porter presented his storyboard to A-1 he asked if he should change the girl's name to something other than 'Rin' since he had only been using it as a place holder. He was told quite firmly to leave it due to the CEO's daughter being named Rin, too, and that it would be more likely to get approved as it was. I noticed that you closed your eyes during a lot of sections where there weren't any lyrics, but by doing so you missed out on several important bits of the story being shown on screen. I highly recommend that you re-watch the video, but make it a point to pay attention to the animation while you're vibing - especially now that you know the gist of the story - so that you can see the amount of care and attention to detail the animators put into their work to give the story as much power as it had. There is an ongoing fan theory that several of Porter Robinson's songs are interconnected, the most notable of which being "Goodbye to a World" and "Sad Machine." Both of which are assumed to be from the point of view of (or at least someone speaking to) Rin while she's inside Shelter at some later point in time. Highly recommend both for future React videos! ^_^
Just found your channel. Love your vibe and love the Tobi Lou-esque shirt as well. If you havent heard of him you would ADORE Brakence. Cbd or dropout are good introductions but every single song is his is beautiful
I have always loved this song it's so beautiful and sad at the same time. I've got to recommend the beginning of harmony by minty root it features a beautiful orchestration by melodicpony and is a truly beautiful piece
Porter Robinson and Madeon (Mad-Eon) are both amazing artists, I suggest you react to "Heavy with Hoping" it's one of my fav songs from Madeon's newer albums!
The weird thing is that in a sense the short movie is in the matrix as you wondered. The description mentions Rin(the girl) has been living in a simulation making her own worlds to play in when she suddenly remembered why she's in the simulation to begin with. Also fun(maybe not) fact, she was 10 when she went into the simulation & is 17 now. Porter has some good songs you should try like Musician, Mirror, Something Comforting, Static Snow, Divinity, Sea of Voices & Unfold. There's others like Blossom but I don't want to keep rambling cause I probably already made this long enough.
LOVE SHELTER SO SO MUCH!!! it gets me EVERY time!!!! Can I suggest Musician or Blossom, both also by Porter Robinson? His music is so beautiful I can't
I would really love to see you react to 'Us Again' its a Disney short that's purely told with animation and music. Its a wholesome little clip and the music shows a variation of styles and instruments, not to mention how those instruments can be used.
Woot, I think I suggested this one before too. When hooman did .... diva, maybe? Or was it something from promised Neverland? Don't know, but I'm just a long time viewer and not a patron, so I'm glad a patron had the same idea. I had the same thought with this when I first saw this, that this has to be attached to a whole show or something. It's so well done for something that is literally just a one off.
Oh man, I gotta recommend Darken by Zutomayo if you've never listened to it. It tells a very emotional story over the four minutes and the animation and music are so amazing.
Since you enjoy musicals, I think you would enjoy the video of “The hunchback of Notre Dame behind the Studio Recording”. It’s about the musical on stage production. The singing and instrumental in it is breathtaking, and still makes my heart pound with excitement.
So, I've got a confession. I love both Porter Robinson and Madeon. I'm a big fan of their music and have been for a few years. But I have not, and can not, listen to Shelter after I heard it for the first time. The story was so bittersweet and emotional that I have to not listen to/watch it again because it hits me hard in the gut. I don't get emotional very easily, at least not to the point where my eyes start to water, but this one hit me *really* hard.
The story of this animation and song always get to me. The world is ending. A planet is falling towards the earth, and there's nothing that can be done to stop it. You can see it in the simulation at key points. A hazy white sphere falling towards the sky. A planet hovering in the sky above the black and white region, hanging above a city. You can see it in multiple shots on TV, of a ruined Tokyo with it in the distance, of it mere hours or minutes from impact from satellite images. But rather than give into despair, what did Rin's father do? He put everything he had into saving her, and giving her the best last days together that they possibly could before sending her off in her own Shelter, sealing away those memories of the past and locking her in a simulation where she can live out her days in blissful ignorance until she was old and mature enough to understand. Her memories begin to come back. A swing. A rush of memories. A hazy sphere falling from the sky. A broken forest formed from the hazy memories of a shattered city beneath a hanging planet. And then those memories come flooding back in a recollection of those final days on Earth, ending with a pre-written message from her father, the final words of comfort to a girl who is truly alone in this universe, but sees not the despair and loneliness-- but the overwhelming love of someone who truly cared for her, and gave up EVERYTHING to save her. Even the lyrics get into some nice reflective story beats from Rin's perspective, but this comment is long enough without diving into them.
The Devourer of Gods . This theme will make you insane , it is parts and 13min long , the best part is the Universal Collapse the best ost I've ever heard you need to listen to it
Day 2: I really recommend checking out No Straight Roads OST. This game is all about music and differences between genres. Music there is AWESOME, it supposed to be, it's the main subject of the game. I would actually recommend listening to In-game Mixes, since those show how game fluently mashes together differen genres ... but those are twice as long as normal ost so idk if its a good idea. Anyway... Love your videos! Keep it up man!
If you're on the Porter Robinson grind, I think it would be so cool to see you react to his track Divinity! It's quite a bit different from the ones you've listened to so far and has a run time of a bit over 6 minutes. It's really a journey and has been my favorite song for almost 7 years now (for good reason, I think :D)
Oww... I really love that song. Thanks for your reaction to this. Also, I want you to hear this song entitled "GHOST" made by Suisei because it really destroys me when I first heard that song. This song is a Japanese song so I highly recommend this link: ua-cam.com/video/IKKar5SS29E/v-deo.html. But if you want to hear an English cover by rachie (she's really amazing singer), so here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/xnqLZlFFBco/v-deo.html. I hope you love Japanese songs.
If you ever don't know what to react to and want something new and original, there's this group named Starrysky. They make mostly Asian-influenced rock but there's this one song "The World is in Reverse" which is very original because they recorded it backwards. So that's why it has a weird sound but that's a big and amazing work they did here.
He doesn't think America's imagination can quite compare. And my first thought as Zathura, Jumanji, Treasure Island, and the entire series of The Twilight Zone and Goosebumps.
A few songs that I recommend are Universal Collapse and Roar of the Jungle Dragon from the Terraria Calamity mod, as well as stuff from the UA-camr Rainimator, who does Minecraft music videos. Also, great reaction as always.
not sure if you follow Porter Robinson's musical journey (can't say i really have myself either to be honest) but i recommend listening to his Nurture album mainly because it feels like a turning point he had. i think the album was like his response to when he was struggling as a musician at some point. i could be remembering it wrong, but it did feel like the reflection showed in a few songs' lyrics. i dunno if i could pick just one. maybe others could vouch for me and pick one specifically, but personally i loved Look at the Sky, Get Your Wish, Mirror and Something Comforting for the heartfelt context. maybe Musician might also be interesting as a fellow musician yourself? Edit: i just now realized to did do Look at the Sky, and thats a w e s o m e
oh boy if you were to do more songs by Porter, I strongly suggest Blossom! It's one of his more chilled tracks, but never fails to make me at least tear up when I hear it :')
It's been a few years since I've listened to this song but it still makes me cry like a baby 😭 You should react to "Goodbye to a World" by Porter Robinson since it also makes me cry like a baby
You know thinking back it puts things into perspective how making these suggestions is part of my routine when I see your videos, at this point it's basically a point of pride that I eventually get you to listen to these songs. Especially the one below. Day 51: If there is a song that you must listen to, along with the accompanying animation, it has to be We are the Souls by ThePruld. If there is a song that can encompass an entire community it is that song.
Yessssss. He did such an amazing job on that video. That song ("I Believe") combined with his animation work beautifully wove the story of Dark Souls, especially from a player's point of view.
I'm catching up on all your musical reactions with me being a theater major and novice performer, i would love to see you sink you teeth into "They're Only Human" from "Death Note: The Musical" probably the English version is the best in my opinion. without context, it's just two immortals talking about how they see humanity and it's a fun ride.
Hey, i know your gonna play through undertale and all but id recomend listening and reacting to these three songs: hopes and dreams, finale, and battle against a true hero (and going with battle against a true hero listen to but the earth refused to die first) these three songs are absoloutly amazing
ive seen several people react to this video and each of them do the exact same thing. theyre all jamming out till that last part when they realize whats happening.
Def react to more porter robinson his stuff is so great,he even out an hour long concert up on his youtube channel, you should check that out If just for songs, def try musician, sad machine, and many others
Day 6 of asking David The Hooman to react to Fear Not This Night from Guild Wars 2. I recommend "Guild Wars 2 | Fear Not This Night ft Asja | HD Music Video", cause it's got the full version of the song _and_ it's got pretty moving pictures. Also the video you reacted to this time was amaaazing! Imma go rewatch (relisten?) to the original now lol byeee.
If you like porter robinson, then I think you should listen to illenium (if you don’t know who that is already) I recommend listening to his song feel something. It features two other big artists, I prevail and excision. The song is a mix of the same style of edm as Shelter and the rock of I prevail with a bass drop in the middle of the song (excision). The music video is also pretty great. I highly recommend it
i suggest "ludwig the accursed / the holy blade" from bloodborne, "Gehrman, The First Hunter" from bloodborne and "Nightmare king" from hollow knight, they are amazing tracks
I've been here since the first video I saw of yours which was reacting to Addict or the Hazbin Hotel pilot, and I must say it has been crazy watching your videos grow to even the edits! Always enjoy watching your stuff, Hooman. Keep at it. 👍 (Also thank you in advance for getting this song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. 😂)
Had to look it up but here’s a translation of the message her father left her.
To Rin From: Dad
“There was far too little time left after you were born.
I'll say the words from that day once more.”
He made her forget until she reached a age she would be able to understand.
Shelter makes me tear up every time I watch it. It’s so beautiful 😭❤️
I should have not read this comment, now Im bawling 😭
I’d suggest “goodbye to a world” as another porter robinson song! I love it and it impacts me emotionally everytime I hear it-
omg yes holy shit that one hits me like a very agressive massage
I have a suggestion. "Mystery skulls -Magic Animatic". This is a fan animation for a mystery skulls video that was never fully animated but was so good that the band loved it. So much so that when it was taken down to due someone's action the band themselves stepped in to get it reinstated because they loved it so much.
Also the other Mystery Skulls songs, they make some good jams
Everyone's seems to forget that Madeon also helped make this masterpiece. I recommend you listen to Madeons new song Love You Back
Porter Robinson is one of my favorite artists of all time. His music has something special to it.
With that said, some songs I would recommend are "Something Comforting", "Divinity", "Sad Machine", and "Lionhearted". There are more but those are just some personal favorites!
Love Sad Machine! I'd recommend it as well
Sad Machine is definitely a quintessential porter song
You guys be missing out if you don't like Fresh Static Snow
Seeing how much you enjoyed this I highly recommend listening to some of TheFatRat's songs. The three I would recommend are unity, hiding in the blue, and the storm. But there are many other great songs!
Hell yeah! FatRat is a good ole vibe
@@sundalosketch4769 FatRat is Amazing, what's your favorite FatRat song?
I would also recommend Monody by TheFatRat
@@braydenbanks4228 Monody is a good one
Mayday too
First view song notes, and I'm alredy tearing up.
Shelter is all the way up there with the best 4 minute animes!
Porter Robinson - Something Comforting
It’s a relaxation fave of mine.
The visual storytelling of this is just *chef's kiss* and god it makes me cry every time.
Sidebar, just noticed David's Penny Poledina picture on the wall.....nice! (but also....PAIN!)
Gods I remember when this blew up and it was everywhere, definitely one of my favourite short story animations!! Been a long time since I listened to the song, glad you brought it back to my attention!!
Porter Robinson himself has also talked about this:
My absolute favorite thing in music -- art, more broadly -- is when it captures an overwhelmingly bittersweet feeling.
AW DUDE I LOVE THIS SONG IT'S SO SAD!! I listed to the Jubyphonic cover of it she's an awesome singer you have to listen to her!!
You know it's good when we're calling it fire before the song even starts
Shelter's music video always manages to make me tear up by the end of it tbh it's heart wrenchingly beautiful with how well the visuals and the music all come together.
THE DEPRESSION IS CHRONIC BUT THE SONG IS ICONIC
i showed this to my friend and she cried a lot.
this is why i love anime. they can do stuff that normal movies are limited at. like showing emotions and expresions and all sort of things. animation can show 1:1 how far human imagination can go and show it to the rest of the world, while movies have thousands of limitations like the actors, their skill and acting, the dangers of stuns places they film, and the standard for movies and how they are "suposed to be" so that people will like them
there is a reason why anime live action or disney live actions are always so baaaad. they just cant show all those details of animations
You have no idea how happy I was to see that video title. So glad you got around to reacting to one of my favorite music videos.
Excuse me while I cry yet again years and years after I first watched and heard this song.
Literally my favorite song. I’m so glad it’s here and you have the pleasure of listening to it.
Yay you finally reacted to this. i cried so hard at the end of this. what a story. i want a part 2!!!
Im on my old Porter kick, and I am so excited for his next album listening to his older work. He is truly a musician like yourself! Enjoy!
Ahh, I love watching Shelter reactions. You can pretty much always see the exact moment someone goes from vibing to the music to figuring out what's really going down.
Ok ok ok, you gotta listen to Lindel's Song From the Ancient Magus Bride. The orchestra complements the singer's voice so well it's insane
Just watched it again before this. Was a refresher because it has been a while for me. If I remember this was a collaboration of people in three different countries
Shelter makes me cry no matter how many times I see it! There are tears in my eyes and I'm still at the VERY start of this video!
shelter never fails to make me shed tears. i don't know, something about the father to daughter bond. i'm happy you ended up reacting to it !!
update : as i was actually watching the reaction, did in fact cry once more 😀👍
it was worth it bc the song's a bop

YESSS I LOVE THIS!! React to more Porter Robinson songs plss!!
You won’t regret it!! :D
Songs a bop, so glad its remembered years after it was made!
Honestly Shelter is a once in a lifetime colab, one of the best things to come out.
Dunno about anyone else but whenever I hear even just the start of a Porter Robinson song, I can't help but feel an incredible amount of comfort.
This song video got my daughter into art and music. SO HAPPY you did this one 💗
The weird thing is that in a sense the short movie is in the matrix as you wondered. Can I suggest Musician or Blossom, both also by Porter Robinson? His music is so beautiful I can't
I truly wish I could listen to this song for the first time again. Absolutely changed my life
Forever a song that will be stuck in my SOUL. I will be humming this in the nursing home.
Side Note: I went to a Porter Robinson Concert last year and it was one of the best times of my life!
I would really love to see you react to 'Us Again' its a Disney short that's purely told with animation and music. Its a wholesome little clip and the music shows a variation of styles and instruments, not to mention how those instruments can be used.

YEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
I wish this was an anime. They did this specifically for porter and this song.
Oh man, I gotta recommend Darken by Zutomayo if you've never listened to it. It tells a very emotional story over the four minutes and the animation and music are so amazing.
Oh my goodness, I love it when the song suddenly starts speeding up it's so exciting
Omg yes please
Shelter was my first video on youtube that leave a huge impact on me
They built a short story behind the video and it's so well done
Since you enjoy musicals, I think you would enjoy the video of “The hunchback of Notre Dame behind the Studio Recording”. It’s about the musical on stage production. The singing and instrumental in it is breathtaking, and still makes my heart pound with excitement.
It's truly a masterpiece of a music video...
"it's almost like she's in the matrix"
*Nervous eating*
Thanks for this.
God tier animation and song just perfect all together glad you finally saw this masterpiece
The Devourer of Gods . This theme will make you insane , it is parts and 13min long , the best part is the Universal Collapse the best ost I've ever heard you need to listen to it
This animation & song combo still makes me tear up
React to the whole Nurture album by him
Such a good song and video. Such feels.
oh look it's my favorite song and video ever
Parent stuff gets me everytime.
I’d recommend goodbye to a world its a damn good song and a rather heart wrenching one from porter robinsons playlist
oh my god, I love this song so much.
Day 2: I really recommend checking out No Straight Roads OST. This game is all about music and differences between genres. Music there is AWESOME, it supposed to be, it's the main subject of the game.

It's really a journey and has been my favorite song for almost 7 years now (for good reason, I think :D)
Shout out to Porter's co-writer Madeon who did the vocals on this joint! Madeon is one of the greatest artists of our time!
Oww... I really love that song. Thanks for your reaction to this.
Also, I want you to hear this song entitled "GHOST" made by Suisei because it really destroys me when I first heard that song. Could you try "Fiesta flamenco" from bloons tower defense 6?
Either that or "Jass theme" from bloons tower defense 5 would be cool
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Thank you
She must be really good at drawing by now, since it’s the only solace she has, and the way she shapes the world she lives in at the same time
He doesn't think America's imagination can quite compare.
Plss more Madeon, suggesting "Love You Back" , it's new and it slaps
I'm catching up on all your musical reactions with me being a theater major and novice performer, i would love to see you sink you teeth into "They're Only Human" from "Death Note: The Musical" probably the English version is the best in my opinion. without context, it's just two immortals talking about how they see humanity and it's a fun ride.
YES THIS SONG! I REMEMBER THIS SONG FROM ROBEATS IN ROBLOX FROM LIKE 2 YEARS AGO OR SOMETHING I FORGOT ABOUT IT
Hey, i know your gonna play through undertale and all but id recomend listening and reacting to these three songs: hopes and dreams, finale, and battle against a true hero (and going with battle against a true hero listen to but the earth refused to die first) these three songs are absoloutly amazing
i think you should do epilogue by creo, it sounds happy and energetic and i think you will like it
ive seen several people react to this video and each of them do the exact same thing. theyre all jamming out till that last part when they realize whats happening.
Def react to more porter robinson his stuff is so great,he even out an hour long concert up on his youtube channel, you should check that out
If just for songs, def try musician, sad machine, and many others
I knew he would tear up sooner when he sees the story
I recommend listening to "world's smallest violin" from AJR, it is a great song I really enjoy.
I can't watch/hear this beautiful masterpiece without crying, it's hurts in the best way possible
You should react to asdf songs, I recommend mine turtle, do the flop and the muffin song
Still waiting for the Paint it Black by Sebastian Böhm reaction. Pretty sure it's been about a year at this point. Lol.
Vibes....and also emotional damage xD
Since u enjoyed the story of shelter, I have a band called Mystery Skulls. You should check out their song Ghost
I wish this had an actual anime series even if it was just 1 season
Could you react to blackout from in the heights?
ayo, do kai´s theme from kung fu panda
Good Luck getting it out it is still living rent free in my head and thank you :)
