    Thanks aunty flo,I live in Trinidad and Tobago and it's very expensive to cook Nigerian good but I see these seeds every where because people use it here to feed birds,now I can cook soup too

    I tried this and had to come back to say thank you. Egusi was taken off a family member's food list so I made it with sunflower seeds and he couldn't even tell the difference. It tasted really nice. I used ugu but next time I'll probably try it with Uziza leaves. Thanks again🤗

    I like that you are showing low carb recipes. Very creative and helpful! ^_^ I was doing low carb strictly for 6 months and recently started adding small amounts of low glycemic carbs back every so often. (Carbs are very helpful for aerobic exercise) I made your oats fufu and it tasted great but I couldn't get it smooth like yours. A bit lumpy.. My first time making fufu though.
    Thanks again Flo~

      Mimi Nwabuoku the video aims to solve an availability problem. Some people cannot see Egusi at all where they live. Even in cost, sunflower seeds are far more cheaper than Egusi seeds. At least where I live. Nigerian traditional ingredients are very expensive in any part of outside Nigeria.

      Ndi Opara it contains oil. I live in Spain and here the Spanish snack on this so much. Someone can finish a big bag in a sitting and Spanish people are the healthiest people in the world. They also drink olive oil like water and they are fine. Of course every ingredient cannot be "healthy" for everyone but I usually take a look at a people to know if their diet is good. And from what I have seen, sunflower seeds must be good.

      I had to mention it for those who have my kind of tastebuds. ;) The soup tasted like egusi soup.

      I buy peeled organic ones on eBay UK. I use them rather than our egusi. Its cheaper and cleaner, they don't have all those rubbish ones our own tend to have inside, so I don't have to sit and start sorting and picking out unfit ones.
      BTW - I searched eBay Spain.
      With my limited 'spanyihola' I got this listing. I don't know if its organic or not, my Spanish no reach dat wan.

    concerning the herbs, would a mixture of Uzizi leaves, Cent leaves together with Bitter leaves be a good combination? I am European and in the local African shop they had these three types of leaves. I am almost sure about bitter leaf, but not about the other two

      Franko in addition to bitter leaves, I can add uziza to this soup. I will not add scent leaves because it will throw the taste of the soup off.

    Can I use a normal blender with water to blend it, if I don't have a dry blender???

      Alina Egbunike you can try it but these sunflower seeds are quite tricky. The middle is harder than the outside.

      It won't blend as fine as a dry blender also known as a spice ginder.

      All Nigerian Recipes what is the name of the regular melon. America has many melons. I’m wondering if I can find it or use another melon. I want it for future use. Thank you

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  6 років тому +1

      It is simply known as Egusi. It is in the melon family but there's no specific English name for it. It is not even in the list of 25 popular melons so I am sure the gourd is not outside Nigeria. But you can find the seeds (peeled) in African shops. Every African shop labels it as Egusi. In Nigeria we do not eat the flesh of Egusi the melon, it is cultivated for the seeds. Read about it at: www.allnigerianrecipes.com/food-ingredients/egusi-melon-seeds.html and you can see the image of the egusi melon at: www.agrobusinessngr.com/egusi-melon-farming-how-to-plant-egusi-melon-step-by-step-guide/

    Good job. Pls how do you "peel" the sunflower seeds? Hopefully not by hand the way we do egusi.I see only unpeeled ones around.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  6 років тому

      I bought the peeled ones. You will need to ask the shop keepers for the peeled ones. They will most likely have it because it is very common here. And make sure it is raw.

    Isn’t stock fish always salted? The one I know is so salted it has to be soaked in water for 24 hours, changing the water 3 times.
