- Highlighting a common problem and how to deal with a crooked eye. This is certainly not the only way but it’s the way I use most often. **Bonus tip on tracing the eye too.

Thanks for watching!
Great tip! Thanks for the heads up!
Paul,
That is a great tip! I've fought a few axes like that and if you don't catch it right away you will fight it! Thank you for taking time to film, edit a post this video.
Thanks to people like you. The internet is still a great thing.
I am in my 60s and remember real apprenticeships.
This meant learning from the experience of others
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I am serving my apprenticeship via the web! I have a lot to learn myself but some of these basics I needed early. It’s been a rewarding endeavor.
Great method for hanging a head with a crooked eye. Thanks!
Congratulations for your Chanel 💪💪💪👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great tip! I never thought of that.
Some good info, I’ve done about 30 rehafts now, all for fun. Every one is different. I find the Jersey patterns to be the hardest to get right.
Thx Paul!! This was really helpful! Just burned two blanks due to inexperience and perhaps rushing. 😁. Failures is our greatest teacher, but with the price of good hickory these days, she’s offering really expensive lessons. 🤣😁
Without seeing what the actual failures were, I’d say slow down slightly.
Sir is there a way to turn the bit after tou started. I.e. can you turn the direcrion during the fitting process. I am fitting a 5lb plumb to a curvy Liam Hoffman handle.
Thank you my friend.
In the fitting process there’s definitely a lot of wiggle room for adjustment. If you got too far down in the fit though you can run out of room.
I just got an old Collins that I have to rehang for that reason. It’s got a decent factory handle but it’s lined up with the crooked eye 👁
I’ll sacrifice a few inches and try to salvage it. I want to thin and shape it a little anyway.
Best of luck!
I have an old firefighters axe head that is in pretty good condition on the outside surfaces. It just has a black colored patina (for lack of a better word), and I intend on bringing it to a mirror polished finish. The outer surfaces have no rust, and only a few minor dings that I should be able to sand away with a flap disk. The only potentially serious issue I can see, is inside the eye, it rusted a bit, and some of the rusty metal has flaked off. Can this be fixed by maybe TIG welding some new metal into the eye, or is my axe head restoration doomed before I even begin??
I wouldn’t attempt to weld inside like that. It’s slow tedious work but I would use a sharpened metal punch and just chip away all the loose stuff in there. I’ve used a flexible reamer tool too. Then sand it a bit to get some smoother surfaces. What will really determine success is how good of shape you can carve on that tongue of the handle to go on. Good luck 👍🏼
