Dude , don't trash the sheath . Go to a sporting goods store get 3 bottles of baseball glove breakin conditioner. Gently rub conditioner all over ,Put the sheath in a Ziploc bag. "Drown " it in conditioner seal the bag ,place it in a warm place for a week , after a week check the sheath it will be soft and pliable again ,it will be alot darker but you will have the original sheath in useable condition.

Good vice is essential. One of first things when I bought my first home was to get a good vice made in Poland 50 years ago. Next was sewing machine, made also in 70' - good even for thick leather. Next was wood for my bench. I already had few axes, hammers, saws, drill bits etc. ... Since then I haven't got any good chance to buy good anvil... strange.

The Hudson bay boys axes are cool and iconic, but sadly they're not that good.
The quality can be there especially with the Collins Legitimus axes, but the very shallow eye / poll depth is problematic and the pattern is notorious for the heads working loose.
They're definitely cool, but the very uncommon Jersey and Connecticut pattern boys axes are even cooler / better.
