NBA needs dynasties. It's always flourished most when stars stack up chips and compete to be legends. Wilt vs Bill Russell, Magic vs Bird, MJ vs everybody, kobe vs Duncan, and most recently lebron vs curry. Right now because of parity in the league there aren't two stars representing the product. There are several stars who are dimming out the spotlight and it's hard to follow or care unless you are an avid super fan.

The NBA is unwatchable because 1. Too many blowout games 2. Refs calling fouls like crazy. Flagrant fouls and techs for players showing emotions. If your call a tech on a player who shows emotions based on your wrong call, then the players won't care or play hard. 3. The NBA has made it hard for fans to watch the game. If you have a league pass for $16.99 a month, you can't watch your local games and Espn games ridiculous 🙄. 4. Load management and coaches sitting players once the team is down by 15 points with 3 minutes to go in the 4th. 5. When you listen to the players' address games the lose they always downplay it . Oh, it's just the beginning of the season, meaning the fans shouldn't care either. 6. I caught myself loving hockey way more than basketball now, and i think it's because of the loss of physicality in the NBA
The NBA ratings peaked in 1998 and has gone down since. Why? That was MJ’s last NBA Finals. Flopping, load management & horrible refereeing has exasperated the fans
That plus it’s such a headache and expensive to watch games these days. Even if you pay to get NBA league pass you don’t get full access to watch all of the games like huh? How that makes sense
I agree on the politics piece. Kerr and Lebron more than Curry, but it hurts the product when the face of it openly displays their disdain for half the country’s politics.
You’re right. My basketball GOAT(Jordan)didn’t bring politics into the game. He understood it was a business and he understood that politics will be divisive. And like Mike said when he didn’t endorse a local NC Democratic candidate, “Republicans” buy shoes too. 😂
He is like the guy in college who still shows up to high school functions because he thinks everyone loves him so much. He was the most hated athlete in the world for a long time I think someone just passed him up though 😂
I’m definitely more conservative leaning but this why you can’t be either. Both hate if you truly think for yourself and don’t follow to the T what either is pushing.
Rubbish. Jordan was a media creation. The golden age was the 80s. Starting in 1990 the NBA went down. This generation is the "I wanna be like Mike generation." Selfish and self centered
@@banksfranks775 He is actually spot on. Jordan may have gained viewership, but most people who aren't biased and have a brain, saw the special treatment he got. Most of us just don't take the nba serious. Jordan isn't even top 5 al time, yet most fans think he is the goat. The clowns, are the people like you, jordan was never the goat and actually is overrated. When you overrate a star, it turns people off. Viewership was only peaking then because of the actual technology allowing for more viewership. IDK why this is so hard to understand. The increase came from magic and bird, it only had small increases during jordans era and had a steady decline since. I would argue the special treatment given to jordan, turned off many serious sports fans. So who you had watching were Fairweather fans who just watch to see someone with a big name. That will only get so many people watching, it wont bring in the die hards that want to watch serious competition with no special treatment. This is why baseball has and always will be greater than basketball. Balls and strikes have always been the same for all pitchers. Umps have never given special zones for players. I understand its hard for you to understand, but its the truth.
Jordon destroyed baseball not by retiring from basketball to play baseball. But because to “Be Like Mike” took kids off the baseball field to the basketball court. It is much easier to get a basketball pickup game with just a ball where baseball requires a lot more kids and mitts, bats, etc…
The idea of claiming LeBron or wokeness killed the NBA is a fantasy. The game lately sucks. I suggested in 2015 that the three points are a problem it takes away the skilful players and tactical aspects of the game. My friend called me a Curry hater. Now we both don't watch the game.
The NBA caught lighting in a bottle with MJ because there was a cant miss mystique to him. but even during his time the NBA did a excellent job of marketing their other stars. Everybody had nicknames that was connected to their personality and there was a ton of cross branding endorsements that connected the NBA to the wider culture. Wheaties, Mcdonalds, Hanes, Looney toons, these are some of the things that made the NBA of the 90's so special. Also there was no social media. The NBA peaked in the 90's and its not coming back.
OK once again. Everyone is wrong. The reason the NBA viewership is falling has nothing to do with the product or racial division. It has to do with ACCESS TO GAMES. NFL comes on regular tv. You don't have to spend 100 a month to watch NFL games. However, every nba game is only on cable tv. Ppl no longer are paying for cable. So if ppl dont have cable how can they watch the games. The future of sports is on streaming services. If i could pay 5 dollars a game to watch the game i want....viewership and revenue will go up. I dont want to watch games of teams i dont have interest in. This is the issue. Not 3s not lebron not politics. The stands are full. So ppl want to watch. Its all about access.
@yusufallah3512 exactly. The cable networks know this. Thats why the deals are getting bigger to keep them on cable. They will pay them whatever to keep them off of places like UA-cam Netflix Amazon prime etc. Like everyone had cable growing up. Only ppl I know with cable now are old ppl and ppl living in apartments for the most part
Social Media killed NBAs ratings. Basketball CRUSHES in short form content. It's just a less enjoyable experience over 48 minutes with the fouls and excessive 3pters.
This is not talked about enough. The nba is not losing popularity. It’s just shifting. The nba is very huge for younger audiences, people just don’t sit and watch the games, the look at highlights or watch videos about it. People who just look at tv ratings are dumb
The NBA was must see from around 1984-2004. That is the golden age of NBA basketball. I love Steph as a player, but his style of play is terrible for the game. It’s ok if one dude is just so good he can shoot 10-15 3’s a game…but when you now have 7 footers who would rather shoot 3’s the game has changed forever - and not in a good way.
@stonedecatur6602 Lakers were in development with a good young squad, kuzma, jordan Clarkson, and others. LeBron got rid of them all put people who will do as he says, even the coach.
@stonedecatur6602 this type of idiocy works in small market teams grasping for sales and maybe a championship but Lakers are an established tram with culture. Jeanie shouldn't be letting this happen
This is odd though. Steph gets all the credit for revolutionizing the game and how it's played today, but when someone brings up the negative effects of everyone now shooting the 3 at a high clip, all of a sudden, its not "Stephs fault."
@tbjb009 go back and look at the stats. I think the Warriors have only led the NBA in 3 point attempts like twice since Steph got there. It was Houston that took the 3 to this level
It wasn’t a singular thing that ruined the game. Load management, too many games on tv, Adam Silver, refs, all star weekend, ridiculous contracts, no defense and minimal mid range.
This runs deeper than just "politics" The issue is, there is too much service and not enough demand. 82 game season, why would a casual fan want to watch a NBA game, when they can just scroll on tiktok or youtube or even just wait till later on in the season because its so long. I myself only watch lakers games because of the Lebron. Back in the day there were limited forms of entertainment, and one of the key forms of entertainment that society could lean on, was sports, heavily favoring the NBA because of Michael Jordan. The NBA blueprint wont work in this day in age.
This is not talked about enough. The nba is not losing popularity. People just don’t sit there and watch games like they used. But everyone knows about the nba storylines
In my opinion the ratings have suffered partly because none of the stars inspire us with their mentalities. The majority of stars either 1. Play no defense or 2. Self promote or play media mind games like lebron. Kobe Mj and Larry Bird captivated us because their will and mentality was something to behold.
Baseball is up because of the pitch clock and the Yankees facing the Dodgers in the World Series. Heck, even the Mets being in the playoffs helped a lot.
@@RocketMan-vc8sr Been watching baseball close to 50 years. I worked for the Mets in the 80s and 90's. That pitch clock is awesome. The balk rules and ghost runner is stupid and detrimental. A nice tight game coming in at 3 hours or less is nice though.
The 3 point shot has turned the game into a 3 pt shooting contest. There are no fast breaks anymore cause everyone standing at the 3 point lead can get back on defense. Its a bad product. NBA has to make radical changes. Increase the size of the court and move the 3 pt shot back so only a handful of guys can make it. Let the players, with the bigger court and space, show off their athleticism with one on one moves to basket and more fast breaks.
Increasing the size of the court would make scoring go up.😂 the reason scoring is so high is because of the space of the court and 3 point shooting. Defenses are actually better today and more versatile but it’s near impossible to guard teams today. If anything they need to make the court smaller
@ i did say move the three point line back. but you make an interesting point. i dont mind the scoring but i want to see more fast breaks and dunks and less jacking up threes
@@smittypa6597 move the line back would help a little bit but I think teams would still shoot most the same amount of 3s unless the nba moves it back something crazy like 5 feet. I’m not sure why your missing fastbreak points and dunks. Both have statically been going up. There’s more fastbreak points and dunks then there was 20 years ago. The only thing that’s gone down is mid range shots since it’s the most inefficient shot and teams are smarter then they used to be so they shoot less midranges. It sounds like you aren’t a basketball super fan and are just nostalgic of the players you grew up with. Your speaking narratives not facts
Several factors. 1. The over reliance on the 3 point shot. 2. Position less rosters. Why play a 7'0 beast with a dominating paint presence when you can just put a 6'7 guy who can shoot 3s? 3. Lack of competition. 4. Bad product on defense. 5. All Star showcase is a joke now.

I enjoy this show, but there are clear personal biases on display. PDB has openly expressed his dislike for LeBron in the past, and unfortunately, this seems to cloud his judgment and overlook the facts. We need to stop blaming a political movement from years ago that has little relevance to the current NBA landscape. BLM was a response to political corruption and societal issues-it wasn’t without flaws, but it’s unrelated to the state of basketball today. Here’s the reality: modern sports are driven by data and profitability, which has affected the excitement and spontaneity of the game. Players are more cautious to avoid injuries that could jeopardize their careers and earnings. The league has also implemented rules to reduce physical contact for player safety. Additionally, players’ endorsement deals often influence how and when they participate in games. The rise of the sports betting industry has also made games more technical, further impacting how the sport is played. Basically, the stakes are higher now, and players often prioritize longevity over playing with the same freedom as in the past. Let’s move away from misinformed opinions rooted in personal dislikes and instead present data driven opinions. PBD needs to do better
There are many factors like competing with the football season, competing with streaming services like Netflix, watching highlights instead actually games. Also, kids would rather be on social media, play video games, or watch UA-cam than NBA games

You know who really destoyed the game it's D'Antoni and the Rockets. Curry, Thompson and Warriors took many 3's cause it's their game and playstyle. While Rockets made it about statistics only taking 3's or layup/dunks no in-between. In 2017 Rocket shoot more 3's than the Warriors that has KD.
It was the ban of the handcheck/forearm check, the defensive three second violation, and the back to the basket five second rule that transformed the NBA into the pick-and-roll and shot chucking league.
So he proved New York vs Los Angeles Will get 20 million more viewers worldwide, than Dallas vs Boston. Well done, baseball is in a lot more international markets too.

@@BrazaBryan their viewership this year just finally passed where it was in 2015 after declining started around 2016. So it just recovered from something that happened to the game right around then. I believe that would be in reference to Kaepernick. Nearly 10 years of stagnation occurred.
@@BrazaBryanmaybe find out what happened with Kapernick and the NFL before commenting, dude. Those ratings dropped like a mf- did u think it would help?
You heard it here first. An easy solution. If I was commissioner, I would devalue the 3pt shot by making all current 2 pointners count as 3 points and current 3 pointers count as 4pts. This will definitely encourage more mid-range and paint area scorings. More posting up, more cuts, more passes more pick-n- roll. Currently you need to shoot very bad 33% 3pt FG (2 of 6 =6 points) on threes to easily equalize very hard to achieve 50% shootings from 2s (3 of 6 = 6 points). Now redo the math counting threes for 4pt at 33% ( 2 of 6 = 8pts), and 2pointers 50%FG for 3 points (3of6=9pts). Now how good do you have to shoot the new 4pointers to equalize the new 3pointers counting system? new 4 pointers 37.5%FG (3of8=12pts) to equalize the new 3pointers 50%FG (4of8=12pts) The last couple of years the NBA league 3pt FG average is around 37.5% and 2pt FG average is 54.5% which the 3pt shot has a huge advantage. The new 4/3point system will give the mid-range game a slight edgeand make watching the game fun again.

Precisely, it’s not Steve’s fault, it’s not LeBron‘s fault, it’s the fact that generally in your local area you can maybe watch one or two basketball games out of the 82 teams that are playing. And you have to have a bunch of different subscriptions to watch other games, I have ESPN, and still on most nights you can’t stream the game, you have to have NBA TV or league pass or some bullshit
People also forget how Kobe had a massive global effect, especially in China which brought in far more eyes during his time. He also was winning so the huge LA market helped
Nba has a lot of problems. -Regular season became irrelevant after KD joined the warriors. - games are 3 pointers and fouls ONLY - stars sit out randomly for big games - Divisions are meaningless - no rivalries exist that are great - it’s a superstar league, most fans root for a certain player not teams.
KD joined the warriors and LeBron joined the heat. I watched the Spurs beat them then LeBron moved teams and you just saw him make his teams. That is when I stopped watching because the NBA tried to push him to the top.
The ratings are highest when the face of the league is in the finals with a worthy opponent. Show the viewership over the last 10 years. The current style of play is skill based and beautiful. Steph does everything at a high level without being physically imposing, just pure skill...
It definitely turned people off. I have been a lifelong NBA watcher and boycotted the NBA from 2020-2022. But it isn't one of the main reasons why the NBA has plummeted in popularity to either.
@BourbonInhibitions The NBA has no plummeted. They have the largest audience of all 4 major American sports. At least 400 million Chinese people reported following the NBA regularly. The NFL and MLB would die for those numbers. Since the year 2000, the value of an average NBA teams has increased 20 fold. Will Cain is still talking about BLM in 2024 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ Ratings were trending down before BLM and police brutality protests during the pandemic. NFL ratings are still up, in spite of Kaepernick & kneeling yrs ago. At most you have a minority of salty fans who will temporarily boycott for a season at best. Will’s take is trash and has biased political leanings, which is why he’s not at ESPN or FOX Sports. There was time when some hardcore male purist NFL fans were angry about players wearing pink cleats for Breast Cancer Awareness. Last season the big hoopla around Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl and her groupie fans, who watched to see her and Travis angered many true NFL fans. It was some reality show BS. If someone is a true fan, they’ll block out all the interference or side issues. You had many Wht and far right leaning boxing fans who abhorred Muhammad Ali and his militant views. They still watched his fights, because they were entertaining. Now if the fans hate the actual product being highlighted, they’ll slowly lose interest. This is the issue, not no goddamn BLM. That train has came and went. The NBA is full of redundancy on offense and apathy on defense.
The excessive player empowerment that turned players into Divas and the exorbitant amount of money the NBA is charging their customers is why they're suffering bad ratings. Wilt vs Bill Russell, Magic vs Bird, MJ vs everybody, kobe vs Duncan, and most recently lebron vs curry. Right now because of parity in the league there aren't two stars representing the product. The clowns, are the people like you, jordan was never the goat and actually is overrated. When you overrate a star, it turns people off.

Baseball viewership is up because they tightened up the game.
I’m back into baseball for the first time since I was 15/16 20 years ago, agreed.
As time goes on I admire THE GAME of baseball more and more.
Baseball has always been the thinking fans game. 100% the average IQ of an MLB fan is higher than an NBA or NFL fan.

Now how good do you have to shoot the new 4pointers to equalize the new 3pointers counting system?
new 4 pointers 37.5%FG (3of8=12pts) to equalize the new 3pointers 50%FG (4of8=12pts)
The last couple of years the NBA league 3pt FG average is around 37.5% and 2pt FG average is 54.5% which the 3pt shot has a huge advantage. The new 4/3point system will give the mid-range game a slight edgeand make watching the game fun again.
I would say the 3 point shot hurts the NBA . Took out midrange and post moves. And also players switch teams so much nowadays it's hard to keep up

People make it seem as if Steph told people to shoot 3s. Also coaches copied the Warrior way
It's not Curry's fault but that style of basketball is trash.
I still love watching Lebron
you can’t blame Steph he is the best shooter we have ever seen, a generational talent, without him the NBA would be in a worst decline
They have to eliminate the 3 point line. So the best teams wins. Not the one who shoots the farther
Didn’t gave a crap about baseball growing up, love it now-it’s pure sports and getting more exciting
PBD is a front runner with his sports picks.
Shaq also went to p diddy parties so he should be very quiet
Apples and Oranges dude...maybe you should eliminate your comment since it's not relevant to the conversation. Doifus
A 7' dunker saying a 6' 3-point shooter is ruining the game. Maybe the game would be improved if the 6' guys played inside and the 7' guys were outside. That would change the game shack
blaming LeBron is nasty work from from V.
Pfft, get off his nuts.
i’m sure LBJ don’t care what Vin thinks, but honestly speaking, blaming LBJ for all the NBA problems is not factual, i was just stating that… now it seems you’re on my dick bro, smh.
Don’t agree with Shaq. Inflation is so bad alot of people are working more than one job. Not enough time to keep up with all these sports.
Secondly the nba being pro democrat gets so draining honestly. Which is such a shame because because the product now is 100x better than it ever has.
Lebron is the current best of this era and he plays no defense. Players take a look at Lebron and think why bother playing defence if Bron doesn't seem to care. Also him forcing the team to take his son turn off fans.
Stop lying, he made all defensive teams for several years and now that’s he’s older he slowed down. You casuals are the worst
@stringer2295 Flopping isn't defense
@@ColinSushiboy-lz4rg let me send some actual facts your way since you’re clearly a biased casual, Lebron has never literally never ranked high in flopping. If you have the time go look it up and I guarantee you ignore this
@@stringer2295 Just watch hours of videos of Lebron. He's horrible with defense and people don't call him LaFlop for nothing. You're just a brainwashed fanboy
@ that’s not what I asked, you’re clearing avoiding the point. If your main complaint was flopping go look up the flopping stats and come back….
They killed The All-Star Dunk contest when they took the title from Arron Gordon and Handed it to Lavine.
❤Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu (from WNBA) 3pt contest was AWESOME.
Will Cain honesty is refreshing
NBA players earn more, why? the global reach that NFL and Baseball wish they had
NBA lost me when they went all in on the Black Lives Matter nonsense.
What softened the NBA was Silverman, painting courts for weak tournaments and allowing players to control the league.
Bad take on Bron and his cultural views hurting the NBA .. if he was in the finals .. the ratings would be through the roof
No it wouldn’t and im a Lebron fan. The WOKEism and game management with the NBA trying to charge every game was a turn off. This is why the NBA UNION and increasing super max contracts is what’s hurting the nba
2016 game 7 Cavs vs warriors great ratings
Thank you
@@heinzyketchupy4175 yes they will .. why do you think social media sports pages mention him so much... for clicks and views
Steph didn’t ruin the game. Guys shooting 3’s who shouldn’t be shooting them ruined the game. The refs don’t call the game by the rules has ruined the game. Load management has ruined the game. The game is hard watch. Their weak social awareness ruins the game.
SuperTeams ruined the NBA for many years-especially the KD Warriors.
