  • What's shaking, folks! I'm back with another Cure 2-for-1 reaction, and this time we listen to the final two songs on the 1979 album Three Imaginary Boys---the title-track, followed by the short instrumental, "The Weedy Burton." So join me as we listen to a compelling end to a really cool album from The Cure. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on UA-cam and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on UA-cam, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz

The title track is actually completely open to interpretation as Robert Smith said it was about a dream he had.

The three imaginary boys turn out to be Robert Smith, Lol Tolhusrt and Michael Dempsey waiting for tomorrow ‘that never comes’. Yes, as philipmcfarlane mentioned, this probably relates to a dream Robert had, perhaps in connection with his preoccupations at the time. Namely, hoping for success with The Cure... Musically, it's one of my favourite tracks from the band, which already foreshadows the direction of their forthcoming album, the brilliant Seventeen Seconds!
‘The Weedy Burton’ was just an unimportant hidden track on the original vinyl album. As for its meaning, according to Robert Smith: "I'd learnt to play a bit by reading Bert Weedon's Play In A Day books and using my older brother's guitar,. It's a sort of nod to Bert".

With Three Imaginary Boys the band became The Cure as we got to really know them on their second album. From there on that ghostly, hopeless and melancholy atmosphere continues to broaden and gets further explored with their next two albums, up until their 1982 Pornography album where the band implodes (or explodes as you wish) into a terrifying feeling of total madness and desperation- “Phil Spector in hell” as Robert Smith would later refer to it. It’s a masterpiece and a total trip. Not that strange since Smith was heavily into lsd at that point. It will blow your mind. I can’t wait for you to dive further into their catalogue. These are my favorite reactions so far. Keep it up!

The title track is my favourite from their first album. Would also be great if you reacted to some of the b-sides from this album, like Play With Me. Let me know if you need me to share them with you.

Matt has access to them and, as he said, he will select a few of those to do next (starting with the non-album singles, I think). 😉

As expected, I had never heard these either, and I liked it! ❤ From the very beginning, with that wonderful guitar sound. Love his voice, too, and his very characteristic way of singing. The usual! 😜😊
Now waiting for the non-album singles, to hear a bit of their more "mainstream" sound. 😉
