      hi, I looked at your Amazon list, for all sorts of parts to make our own picks ups & stuff, is the bees wax what we use to wax the pickups ? I saw the poles but what is the name of the tool we use to make sure the poles are polling in the right way before we put them into the pick up holes? thanks,
      I don't know what that tool is..

    Brads has better wiring circuit with a better switch, pots and caps, no doubt. It also has way better tuners. It seems it also got the better body of mahogany. Shaun’s guitar has way better trem, with big block and no quality issues. It also has much better pickups, they sound strong and punchy with good flavour. I also think the neck is probably better with the fretwork etc. Build and assembly quality favours Shaun’s Scarcaster. It has better fit and finish and more cohesive hardware. In summary, my vote goes to Shaun. That said, love both your channels and have learned heaps from you.

      Make it 2 hands up. I would like to see Cathy wind two single coils and how to wire solder it right to become a humbucker and not a microphone and put the back plate on soldered and how to wax pot it. I don’t have a wind counter machine, but to see and understand how each step is the difference between a good pickup wa great pickup. I have wax potted a few. From now on every one, just call me Bill.

    I am literally stunned at how juicy the custom made Axe sounded compared to the $900 dollar wall mount, this comparison is beyond being blown out of the water. Strangely I hear and see this kind of thing a whole lot lately. I am a bargain buyer of cheap guitars and I find it fascinating that literally my low budget guitars are 9 out of 10 times better than a pricy label. There are off label brands that are insane like Leo Jaymez, The cheap LP EPi's are literally fantastic, The SBYSolar are incredible, and Harly Bentons, I would argue pro ready with minor adjustments. Don't believe the brand hype, SMG is 100% on point with this low budget build.
    It proves everything you need to know about a quality axe and a wall mount. Today is a great day for low budget guitars that bury over priced wall mounts.
    I am stoked to know I am not the only guy on the block that has learned this and just always afraid to say it.
    Like how do ya try and explain this to somebody that literally spends thousands on a guitar and expect them to agree?
    They don't but the truth is so glaring admitting such would make them feel dumb blowing insane amounts on a over priced brand axe.
    This is one of your best video's! Keep rollin it!

    Sean you prob already know this, but when I drill my holes through finish, I run the drill in reverse. Takes longer to make the hole but doesn't chip the finish. Learned this when drilling holes through fiberglass boat hulls.

    Great video!!
    Tip: loosen the screws of the neck a little when the strings are on and in tune, so that the neck is maximally pocketed and makes best contact with the body, then tighten the screws of the neck again, tune it again, done

    I have that same pickgaurd and it's great. I replaced all the wire with cloth pushback, the pots with CTS, orange drop caps. One for the singles and one for the bridge which has its own tone knob. It sounds fantastic and I've got $70 and some time in it.

    My Temu guitar I built with an SSS pickguard sounds better than any guitar I bought. Except for the Kramer, I put a new loaded HSS pickguard on from TEMU. My tone pots broke when I put new nobs on the Kramer. I since repaired that pickguard with 500 pots from Temu. It's waiting for my next build.

    • @Bbbbad724
      @Bbbbad724 5 місяців тому +1

      Most loaded pickguards are single ply and have S Korean and Chinese trash. When you take the old pickguard off save everything you can because you might need it, like Napoleon you don’t want a piece of plastic or soldering something wrong because you don’t have an example to look at.

Bought a $25 loaded pickguard off Amazon with the a bridge humbucker & a rail single size humbucker in the neck & middle & mini toggles to coil split them. And a kill switch. $80 into it & it smokes all my other comparable guitars.

    Black and White is always a good colour combo, i have 9 that are Black, White or B/W, and with chrome or nickel hardware it makes them pop. Back in the 70's and early 80's when i first started playing, decent guitars were expensive, nowadays many factories have computerised machinery that turns out quality guitars and parts inexpensively and with videos available on youtube kids can build great custom guitars for themselves at pocket money prices, i would have loved to have these options at 10 - 11 years old. Apologies for going on a bit, great build fella, sounds great, you should have let the Mrs do the scratch plate work tho.

    Having what I'd choose to call a mid life INSPIRATION here. Did a bit of guitar between the ages of 10 and 18. Been a long while, but I'm tempted to learn again with electric. This video has encouraged me to go further and build my own. Well within my capabilities to do. Just love the sound of this build, it's amazing. Tried the link for the pickguard and it's coming up as a double humbucker instead of the one you've got with the neck and middle using the Alnico Vs. I'm guessing this would make a huge difference to the sound? Any suitable alternatives on Temu??

    Here's a tip I've learned myself lately. For the tuning machine screws I have broken two in the past. I was luckily able to extract them, but to prevent it I tried a few different things from beeswax to bar soap, but the best thing I've found is chap stick. Just stick each screw into the chap stick a bit to get some on the threads and it's like they beg to go in.
    Yep! Chap-sticked screws crave wood. 😄
    Another tip: Run your drill press backward a bit to prevent tear out when you are drilling those 2-post bridge inserts.

    • @insufferablethrashelitist9305
      @insufferablethrashelitist9305 5 місяців тому

      @Mechanobi of course, we're all entitled to our own opinions, so my disagreement is respectful. The better an instrument sounds, the more I love it and want to play it and who doesn't want to sound as good as possible? I know I do. As someone who simultaneously loves and kind of hates fender guitars at the same time, if there's a better product than what fender decided to put on there, it's a no-brainer to me to upgrade it.
      I turned my HSS strat into something I absolutely love from something I just really liked.
      My other strat, on the other hand, I just ordered some fender vintage noiseless pickups for it that they put on a lot of their top end guitars and still retains the classic strat tones. All the hum and noise just ruin it for me, and I don't play it much as a result. However, i surely will after I put those babies in there.
      But the world needs its purists too, so more power to ya brother. Let's just keep rockin in our own ways. 🤘

    I would have used a coping saw and a file to notch out the pick guard. But you still got the job done 😊

    This guitar is a little better than Guitologist's. He has a huge gap between the neck and body in the neck pocket. Also, he used more than two items not from Temu (pots, pickups, tuners).

    What bit did you use to screw those tiny screws in on the headstock? I can’t seem to find small sizes like that or rather I don’t know what to search for online.
