  • Who needs a Grom? - Benelli TNT 125 Review: I love small capacity bikes and I particularly like the machines that are designed to be ridden for pure fun, the Benelli TNT 125 is one such bike - a hoot to ride and great to look at. Who wouldn't like one of these tucked up in their garage?

    I had a grom previously - these bikes are awesome. You do feel as if you are doing something illegal, it is just way too fun. Makes you grin from ear to ear :D

    I run a Grom alongside my Street Triple. They’re chalk and cheese, but for my shortish commute through town, it’s absolutely brilliant. I have a blast on it, it runs on peanuts and it can cut through traffic faster than its bigger sibling. You’re right though, it needs a comedy exhaust to get the full fun experience. I have a Yoshi RS2 Mini which sounds suitably ridiculous. All pops and burbles. Highly recommend this category of bike, once you get into the frame of mind that people are laughing with you, not at you. 😉

    I have one and its a fantastic bike. I ride through the Tyne Tunnel for free everyday. Most people would use this for short rides but it is a great bike, more comfortable than a Grom to sit on for any distance. Two grand bike, £18 road tax, 80+ mpg, able to lane split all the traffic at the Silverlink road works and I smile from ear to ear everytime! Reliability has been fine apart from one bolt that came loose for the gear selector. I couldn't tell you what resale value would be like because its such a new bike but they are selling really, really well in my area. It is only two grand so how much could it lose? I'm seeing more of them around as time passes. I've seem more of these than Groms near me. Only major issue was insurance...its not on their systems so the best people for insurance for one of these is BeMoto (I recommend), Adrian Flux or Lexham for what amounts to a bespoke quote for the bike. It might be something to do with MotoGB, I don't know but it seems to be a common issue with many of the bikes in their various ranges.

      I have spoken to an insurance company today about this - if the bike isn't "on the system" then it would require a manual referral to an insurance underwriter (which is done by phone apparently) so it is possible to get insurance, just takes a while for the referral....pain though I agree. But other than that, what a fun bike - £1700 new on the website of the dealer I use!

      I just thought I would add as well that I often watch your excellent content on UA-cam as well. You can see over time how polished your format has become. Good work, really enjoy this channel. The bike reviews but also the maintainance tips, ... helmet information was great. The vids on the NEC show was enjoyable too! Keep it up and many thanks...

    I love that style of license plate holder. Looks way less intrusive and probably is better as a mudguard. Plenty of premium brands should take note.

    I bought one!. Customized it as a scrambler for a few hundred pounds, and mostly ride it off road. Great fun, parts are very cheap, and it just offers something completely different to my road bike. They are built to a price, but generally the quality and finish is good. I changed the battery to a sealed gel unit, changed the tires to the Maxxis M6024, got rid of the ugly rear mudguard/number plate holder, and put on a better quality chain. Also you can play with the front sprocket and go down to 14 teeth for more torque (good for off road) or up to 16 teeth for more top end grunt.

    • @tracyskorka1479
      @tracyskorka1479 2 роки тому

      Hey do you have more info on your scrambler build? Thanks!!

    • @peterconnell3162
      @peterconnell3162 2 роки тому

      @@tracyskorka1479 its very easy, and not expensive. The modicications also work well for both on and off road riding. Remove the rear mudguard and install a „tail tidy”. Options on ebay. Put on a set of handguards to protect your hands and the levers. Replace the Chinese tires with a set of Maxxi’s, or use another brand, but the Maxxi’s work well for all types of riding. Change the standard battery for a Yausa gel battery because the standard batteries have a record of leaking and you will drop the bike as you venture off road!. That’s the standard „scrambler build”. From here you can play with items like front or rear sprockets to create either more torque, or more power. I would also recommend a chain uograde to a brand like DID, but you can wait until your standard chain needs replacing to save money.

    Just watched your review on 125 Grom and you said that it is built in China the way I view it is that it does not matter where they build it they still have to build to a standard for each country that they send them to. Great video I can't wait to the next one.

    That may be the best sounding 125cc on the market: even through a cell phone and across UA-cam (and the Atlantic ocean for that matter) it seems good enough to actually be a selling point for the bike. Excited to see more of it! :)

      TheMissendenFlyer I think you're right, I'm not seeing them for sale here, rats. Another bike we don't have is the 250cc v-strom. I can only think it's some kind of politics at play or maybe they just don't feel there's a market for them? There are already 3 small 125s right now and it seems this Benelli is a little late to the party. I would love to find stats on bike sales, interested to know just how big a market there is for these little bikes.

    I looked into purchasing one of these bikes a few weeks ago, sadly some of the insurance companies don't recognise the bike on their systems. Meaning some younger riders have to pay £1,000 just for the insurance alone. I went with the Grom in the end £150 for the whole year :)

    Personally, I'd rather pay the extra grand and get Honda build quality, reliability, resale value, parts availability and a decent warranty.

    The seating position is over the top of a bar across the bike. You're effectively sitting on it. The small wheels make any pothole seem enormous. The difference between the benelli and a bike with normal sized wheels is that a proper bike makes potholes easy. How can it be smooth unless you're on a perfectly flat track. The power is good and smooth. The so-called lightweight bike is more than 20Kg more than the grom. The gearbox is good and the quality is fine. @@TheMissendenFlyer I think that's my point. There are a lot of influencers doing the sales pitches for motorcycle manufacturers. I'd probably do it too. You get to ride a lot of bikes and they get to sell more motorcycles. It's a win-win. However, there are limitations to the TNT125. I ride a XT250 and a W800 and they are more comfortable and better for anything more than a short ride to the local train station. And just an addition to my comment about weight. THe benelli is 20Kg more than the Grom and the Z125. That's significant. But lets go our separate ways. Enjoy!

    Hey TMF! Catching up on lots of your previous clips during lockdown. Brilliant way to pass the time in between ordering and fitting parts to my Tracer!! I love these little bikes. Never tried one but seriously interested in a Monkey/Grom or one of these. My mate is a Benelli dealer. Dangerous. This would be perfect for going out with my scooter pals. The Tracer is just too quick with them. Question - did you feel/look a bit "daft" on it or were you having so much fun you just didn't care!

    This is a cool bike and review! can you please make a review of 2020 Benelli 302S. It is a new bike and looks really nice the especially green one, has dual disc ABS front brake but has mixed reviews. Most complains are about the gearbox shifting down and finding neutral. Also, some guys don't like foot position on the bike. I really like your reviews so I would like to know what are you thinking about Beautiful Benelli 302S :-)

    Do think the mainstream manufactures need to take Chinese bikes seriously. Being so much cheaper they will sell, if they prove reliable they will take more market share, a little like the Japanese did in the 70's. • @Peakwanderer
      @Peakwanderer 6 років тому

      Indeed, I have an ST50 with mods that is silly expensive to insure so thought about a 125, cheapest quote was £225 with a lapsed NCB, whereas a new SV650 was just £110.

      TheMissendenFlyer insurance on my GSR600 is £80 versus £130 for the MSX125, both kept in a locked garage with 3 certified security products on both policies. The only difference is the GSR is insured for commuting and business miles and also more miles each year so can imagine MSX125 would go up if equally matched. I can only imagine it is a theft problem with these bikes that’s the cause of the increase as the GSR600 is worth nearly £1500 more as well, ah the black hole of insurance conundrums 😂

  • @geoffhalsey2184
