Thank you man, appriciate it man and now i know exacly how to shift!
You are awesome buddy
Can I have your cellphone number Please
Awesome video! Question, should I pull clutch all the way in or just past the sweet spot for upshifts or downshifts?
Thanks. I'm just starting out and I was pulling the throttle back too early, before letting the clutch out enough and was revving especially from 1st to 2nd gear. This was very helpful. thank you.
I'm 48 and I'm getting back into motorcycling after about a 12 year hiatus. Your videos have been instrumental in me getting my mental acclimation back into 'rider mode'.
Absolutely phenomenal. I cannot praise or compliment you and your videos enough. Best I've EVER seen on UA-cam.
Thank you, Eddie!
Thank you so much!! Please consider sharing them with others!
Hello Jack & MotoJitsu hope you are doing well, need your opinion cause I am same age and starting to ride bikes do you think or advise that it's a bit late for me as everyone around me is saying or age ain't of an object..
@@egyjuice Im 44 and am just starting to learn to ride... , Ive ridden quite a few 'twist and go' scooters on some pretty crazy roads in Thailand and loved it but Ive never learned to ride a real motorcycle, nothing with a clutch and gears that required any real skills... So now
Ive just bought all my safety gear and I have my first lesson in a couple of weeks.... Everyday at the moment I go from super excitement- 'finally Im actually gonna do this' ' cant wait to pass my test and start practicing' to shitting my pants- 'oh my god, can I really do this...! Can I learn all this stuff? , do I have the coordination?, the reactions, the concentration, the ability to always have slow hands even in an emergency.... everything its gonna take to be a good rider'
Thank god for fast Eddie's awesome teaching style and zen-like approach everytime I have a little bit of doubt I watch another bunch of his videos, this one and the braking ones especially Ive watched heaps of times over... Im a firm believer that its never too late to learn anything and I can't wait, it something Ive always wanted to do but Im not afraid to admit I am also a little scared... I think moreso than I wouldve been in my 20s but maybe thats a good thing...
I'm 69 and had to take 10 years off because of cancer but I'm back in the saddle and enjoying the ride.
@@egyjuice Hi Yasser, I'm 62 and just started riding. Previous experience was only a small trail bike when I was a teenager for one or two seasons and the MSF course. Take the MSF course and that may give you some idea if you want to pursue riding further. Some states issue your motorcycle endorsement at the end of the class if you pass the written and riding tests. Then your first bike should be small, light and easy to handle to make learning and beginning to ride easier and less intimidating. Also get and wear gear.
One if the best beginner motorcycle vids on youtube!
thanks!! Share with others ;)
I second that! 👍🏾
sir how to release clutch after downshift
@@rajeshkharkwal7137 you release clutch slowly..... but not too slow..
I think it's in fact the best. Thank you and best greetings.
I just got my license about 2 weeks ago and wasn’t comfortable shifting gears. I’ve never drove a manual car either so I didn’t understand the concept. I watched your video twice and went out there and practiced! Took what I’ve learned and got it right on the first try! I even went on my neighborhood road and shifted up to the 3rd gear! I was able to feel and hear when I shifted smoothe. I feel so much more comfortable and confident. Thank you so much for the video. I already subscribed and cannot wait to watch more and learn!
awesome!!! :)
Hi how to i contact you.can I have your phone number Please
@@humanbeing962 bro just hire a teacher or go to a class
This sounds so crazy to me.. guess it's an american thing, but I can't imagine getting your license without being able to comfortably shifting gears. Not in a million years would that happen in the EU (or at least in Germany/Netherlands)
@ProkG 15 he said he wasn’t comfortable, not that he didn’t know how to do it. We mostly drive automatic here so it’s not necessary for most. I hadn’t driven manual for 20 years til I got on a. Bike and had to relearn.
You and MCrider are two of the best motorcycle-instructors on UA-cam. Learned quite a lot from both of you. Just want to say thanks for making all of us a better rider!
Thanks!
We can add MOTOTREK and we have the trio.
I like MCRider also...and dandanthefireman... He is good as well
Thank you fantastic as always informative and comprehensive
Anyone heard of Ride Like A Pro Jerry Palladio? He's pretty good but most of his videos focus on Advanced Techniques.
"Slow hands make happy riders." Oh yeah!
lol yes!

I'm starting my journey at 54. This video exactly answers the question I've had but didn't know how to ask. It's not explained in the basic course. Thank you!
The MSF should seriously incorporate your videos into their material. It may be your delivery but you have a talent for breaking things down into simple terms and explaining in a direct and concise/understandable way. Even after riding for 6 years and watching videos and reading and practicing, when i watch your videos, I always manage to learn something different or get better at something. I always feel like I am learning from your successes and failures. It really is amazing ! Please keep up the great educational work and it's an honour to support you !
Thank you so much!!
@Lenny saint Yes, I can use it whenever I want, it's not useless. For my bike, it's both up and downshifting. For downshifting, it auto-blips (rev-matches) for me.
New biker havent even taken the course yet but this is hands down top 5 instructional vids man. Extremely grateful. Thank you for doing your part, instilling confidence by simplifying concepts and teaching universal technique on everyday safe driving.
How is it going so far
Adjusting the clutch lever makes a HUGE difference. My hands are smaller and my bike came with a friction zone that was wayyyy out. I dealt with it for a while, but then changed it and it makes all the difference. It took not that long to get used to and helped with clutch control, starting from a stop, basically everything
Sure does! adjust to your hands/body/position, etc :)
Agree 100%. On a new bike, after adjusting the mirrors one should adjust the friction zone to your left hand comfort/high precision zone.
Going to the bike to make adjustments right now loooool
What would you suggest for the tension 1-4?
ur visual repetitions are so helpful; thanks
You’re welcome!
I'm 55 and just started learning to ride a motorcycle. These videos combined with my physical practices make it so much easier for me to understand what and why I am learning what I am learning. Big part of the student's success certainly lies in the way the master explains. The small steps, the repetition, taking the time and explaining why, really does the trick. I can't thank you enough.
Dude you're the best teacher I've ever heard.. I cant wait to apply this 2moro.. thanks so much
Thank you!!
TexasDad 2015 init mate I’ve watched loads of vids like loads but he’s the best teacher I’ve heard aswell ps u should work as a Cbt teacher ;) ah
This is the first video I've seen of yours, but I can't thank you enough. I recently got my first bike and lack a patient and clear teacher. It's like I know what to do and how to do it, but I get so nervous when I'm not on the bike that I question myself. So watching this and seeing my knowledge confirmed just makes me feel so much better.
You're welcome!
best tutorial I've seen yet, and trust me I've watched way too many tutorials that still had me asking questions.. earned yourself a subscriber
Thanks!
This is so incredibly helpful. I am going from a CVT transmission scooter to a motorcycle and was very worried about shifting gears. This makes it seem less terrifying. Looking forward to practicing.
I appreciate how you separated and slowed down all the steps. I've watched a lot of videos and they seem to do it almost simultaneously. I know that will come with time obviously, but it's reassuring to see it done at a reasonable beginners pace and know it can be done that way
Thanks :)

I just want to say thank you for giving such a easy to listen to instruction. I’m starting my motorcycle class tomorrow and you explained so many things I was confused on. Great video I’ve watch a dozen and no one explained it so Thoroughly like you did. Life saver.
hey man, you've explained this better than my instructor for my M class certification that I just got. Thanks for really going into detail and being patient. I really appreciate it.

Getting a 2017 r3 for my first bike very soon! I’m so hyped to start riding
Nice!
The simplistic but concise approach to each segment of the video like up shifting, downshifting, etc is exceptionally easy to understand. Thank you sincerely
Yo I just got my bike crammed as many videos of yours in my head and also practicing you are really good at teaching man thank you

EXACTLY that for which I was looking, after experiencing rough/jerking shifting today as a new rider on a new bike.

Great👍🏻
Glad you think so!
Realistically I have never commented a thank you on anyones video before. But for real this video absolutely changed the way I shift gears and I’m so much more confident thank you so much!
Ive put on 5000 miles(+1000 this last month in a half) on my bike in my first year of riding and i watched this entire video. I've taken a passenger a few times(self taught besides a 5 min youtube video) and now people at my job are starting to ask for rides lmao. Im just trying to be the best rider I can to ensure that I take complete care of my life and anyone who is on the back, and that we can both be safely having fun. You're a huge help to all of this, thanks a ton.
Take more courses, spend more time practicing :)
I’m shocked you don’t have more subscribers! You explain very clear and concise. Your voice is very calm which helps the learning process. Thank you very much! Just subscribed. 👍🏾👍🏾
Progress :)
A VERY big thank you for posting this!!! I wasn't easing the clutch after shifting gears and man... it took me for 1 heck of a ride!
You bet!
im 6 45 minute lessons into my A1 motorcycle license, and this video helped me out SO MUCH because my teacher never explained it this clearly, he just said that i should shift from 1st to 2nd gear like i do from neutral to 1st. also the whole letting go of the gas completely is new to me, and the tip about keeping your hands slow is something im definitely gonna try next time.
I've been scrolling through many bike guides on UA-cam. And I gotta say this is the best video motorcycle guide. thank you so much :)
This evening I'm going out with my bike for the 1st time😁 I've got a Yamaha YZF-R 125cc❤ My 1st geared bike.... I have to say I'm nervous, but yeah, I'm heading to a parking space and start practicing. Great work, Greg! Thanks!🙂

Thanks for these vids, Eddie. They are very informative. I am getting my first bike in a couple of months and these are really helpful
Awesome!
Without a doubt the BEST video on shifting. I have ridden for 30+ years and learned more common sense things today than ever before. SLOW and proper clutch/sequence have never been clearer.
thanks

My first timer anxiety is getting better, thanks Eddie. I got my bike license 4 years ago but haven’t bought a bike because I was scared of riding the bike home but I feel confident now.
❤️👍🏼
Thank you so much for this video! You are such a good instructor. I'm a newbie! I've been practicing in my yard but can only ride in 1st gear. (We live on 30 acres.) Today, I'm going riding with my husband and get to shift gears on some of the back roads. Super excited and your video was a big help. My husband found me a beautiful 2008 BMW F800ST and the bike and I are getting to know each other. Thanks again!

You the best Eddie. Your vids help me pass my rider course a few weeks back!!!! Keep up the great content man!!!
Congrats!!! That's awesome!
MotoJitsu thanks again bro!!!!
You're welcome!
I've been watching loads of your videos. The video and sound quality is always amazing, but what really blows me away, is how well and thoroughly you explain stuff! You go at a nice pace, slow enough to be able to absorb the info you are transmitting, but not so slow it becomes mind numbing and boring. You really have teaching talent. Every single video I have watched, makes total sense and i have fully understood every last bit. I'm very detail driven and I don't feel at all confident, until I know everything! (no matter the subject) and when I watch your videos, I feel fully informed. Every time I finish watching your videos, I just wish I had a bike, to go try it out on :-D I feel SO bloody confident, I would be able to do it. After watching any of your videos, I have NO questions at the end! Teaching is definitely not for everyone, but you were made for this! :-D . Just telling you this, 1 so you know that your work is highly appreciated and, to hopefully reassure you, that your teaching style is spot on and needs no adjustment whatsoever. You deserve every subscriber you have and I have no doubt, you will get plenty more. Thanks for all your great work.
thanks!!

Just about to buy my first bike (I'm 55!!) and watched tons of vids - this one is far the best. Very well explained without cutting corners like many tend to do. Teaching is strong with this one! Keep up good work. Subbed for sure.

Been riding for ever a decade, this is the best shifting video/instruction I've ever seen. Outstanding job my guy. Got a sub out of me.
I am driving a car over 7yrs now and I feel like I have abit of advantage understanding these good tips.
Thank you this was super helpful! I forgot all about the friction zone, I remember hearing about it but completely forgot what it was this just explained it perfectly thank you so much this is what I've been lacking in my practice. Finding that zone and taking it SLOW thanks again! One thing I need help with is figuring out when its time to switch up and down gears is there a certain mile, rpm to base it on? This seem to be conflicted in this area.
You're welcome. When your speed is high enough for the next gear, shift. Go ride, you'll figure it out with more miles.

Hi Eddie, I watched this video a couple of times last week or so and today I practiced it... and it helped me to correct so many issues and problems I had with my downshifting. I can't thank you enough for posting such valuable videos and topics. Thank you so much Sir!
That's great!
This explanation on how to ride a motorcycle far exceeds all the other insightful UA-cam videos that I have seen thus far! Simply and eloquently this video has said to me that the goal to being a good rider is to be at one with the bike. Shifting smoothly will allow it to perform at its optimal best!!!
thanks!
I needed this reminder/refresher...AGAIN!

Thanks Eddie for this video!
This really helped me troubleshoot my choppy shifting.
Recently moved on to a Z900 from a cruiser and thought I had to blip it fast to shift smooth but that was not the case. Been riding about 10 years and still learning.
AWESOME! I'm glad it helped :)
Another great dose of wisdom thanks to ur teachings I am know able to go to the front of the line and take of first at a red light knowing I won’t stall. I just keep cool and focus on playing the piano. It has taken a lot of practice and applying what u show us. What would u recommend in the case of approaching intersection where the light has been green for awhile I get a lil anxious 😦 . What I do is prepare for the intersection by slowing enough not to get hit from the back but ready enough to stop if i get yellow where it is to risky to gun it ( that is my mental process right now which causes me tighten up a bit any feedback would be appreciated) I been practicing right turns from a stop and I’m getting better with keeping it tight vs taking up two lanes just to turn right like a semi 🚚 lol
Thanks! For an intersection, I slow down and look both ways for stupid to blow through it...if it's been green a while, I get ready to stop or go a bit faster, it all depends on if there's someone close behind me. If there is, I won't stop fast because they'll probably come close to or actually hit me...I may speed up if someone isn't going to try and turn either...all depends.
K yes that makes sense to many variables I will be aware of all those scenarios and keep practicing until I can process everything faster and not really have to think about it just react. There was once a time when I wasn't feeling confident enough to go to the front and now I can thanks again for taking time to help us all 👍
You're welcome! Courses and practice my friend.
You should be teaching at bike courses Eddie, from beginners to advanced. Brilliant how chilled and nice you make it seem. Can you do a video about tips to change gear quickly and smoothly for intermediate or advanced riders please.
I think the advanced riders call it pre loading the gear lever when you sort of press the lever a little bit just before you come off the throttle and then pull in the clutch lever and then click it into gear but I'm having trouble getting used to it because I often over think it.
Maybe it's just like that spot on theory you have about the Breathing, Walking and Riding, it'll just come in time when it's ingrained as muscle memory.
At the end of the video, I give tips for all riders..and I made 2 other videos about speed up-shifting and rev-matching :) Go search my channel bro! lol I have those videos already made and available now :)
I'm trying to get my first bike... I don't have any experience at all.. And I feel like I'm getting so much confidence with this guy because he is so good given clear and simple comunicación process. Thank you.
What about blipping the throttle? When should we do it and how much of a blip do you need? Is it a different amount for every gear?
I already made a video about that. Go search my channel to find it. :)
@Johnny Sorge Just wanted to say Aenima is the greatest album I've ever heard in my life. And it's been my favorite since it first came out in '96. That is all - carry on.
So i dont have to rev match everytime im going to down shift? I can just hold the clutch and go down all the way to 1st gear?
No. If you're coming to a stop sign, yes.
"Ur gonna practice being jerky". Absolutely. I got a buddy who drives a manual car. Been driving for like 10 years with that same car. Still feels like ur gonna toss ur cookies whenever u drive with him. Don't form bad habits. Big reason I'm here. Trying to smooth my shifts out and coming back to the basics. Thanks eddy
I followed your advices, the riding got muuuuuch better! Thanks again!

Awesome vid! You seem to be a very good efficient teacher as today i decided to learn about bikes and this is some of the best tutorials I've seen. Keep it up 💪🏽❤️

Way
MotoJitsu is it like this for every bike? I was never taught this
Virtually Rs yup
Hey Fast Eddie, i actually wanted to ask you something in relation to this. What you mentioned is actually what i’ve been doing ever since i got my endorsement...Lets say i’m in fifth gear and i want to drop down into second before approaching a tight turn. Most times when i drop down multiple gears it is completely smooth but i’ve had few occasions where i’ve locked up the rear. Does this just mean that i had let go of the clutch too soon for the speed i was going for that lower gear? And i should have slowed down much further before letting the clutch out? Also do you have any advice for bikes which experience a lot of engine breaking
@@IM-nt6ql yes...you either released too fast or too soon...you can just use the brakes and slow a bit more before pulling in the clutch and downshifting :)
Absolutely great thorough tutorial 👏 love it!!
