I know the first DQ game is aged as all sin, but there's just something magical about the feeling of saving the world all by yourself with no party members helping you, that feeling of isolation in the face of the strongest monsters ever, fighting to barely survive, figuring things out with nothing but your own wits, and finding love in the end, growing stronger from a literal nobody, all as a character with the same name as you, that no other game to this day has managed to replicate. And Akira Toriyama's wholesome artstyle really ties it all together, making it that much better on it's own.

Funnily enough, two of the spin offs got me into the main series (dragon quest builders 1 and 2), fell in love with the lore, monsters and the characters lol. Currently playing DQ IX AND XI and loving them both, especially XI since it's so visually beautiful
So good to see people that actually apprecate the fact that the DQ heros got into smash bros, unlike youtubers who were just mad that we had "another generic sword fighter" as they put it. Dragon Quest may not be my favourite series but it laid the foundations for many JRPGs to come and Dragon Quest IX was my first ever JRPG and it got me into the genre. I hope that more people accept them as time goes on and that this will make people more awere of this amazing series

Dragon Quest XI has been announced I sincerely hope it comes to the states and I also hope it comes out the same year as Final Fantasy VII Remake so Japan can once again rule the RPG world as it did when I was a child.

Just found out Sugiyama-San passed… this man was one of the pioneers of what good game music should be and his contributions to the field are legendary to say the least. The Dragon Quest Overture is one of the best pieces of video game music ever written in my opinion and his other work is just as legendary, especially the ost’s for DQ 3 and 8. If there is one thing that defines that everyone should recognise Dragon Quest for, it's not Toriyama's art style, but this Overture.
I think both should define Dragon Quest, but this song definitely gets me pumped everytime I load up DQ8. And the other DQs of course.
