    Mura, keep doing the good work - you're saying the same thing as Bigbird is saying, but with detail and actual proofs.
    The biggest problem for Ryu community is basically the best players aren't using Ryu.
    Which makes sense, Ryu has a lot of new tools - he's not that simple to play any more like previous games where he only relies on crMK and fireballs.
    Ken has way simpler game plan than either Ryu or Akuma and Ken got almost no changes - so whatever works in S1, works as well in S2.
    And whoever said that Daigo should just use Ryu instead of Akuma, 100% agreed - this iteration of Ryu fits Daigo's bully you down slowly to the corner perfectly.
    Ryu's new tools compared to S1:
    - denjin charge actually usable (can now have more mindgames with fireballs and OD denjin hasho)
    - od fireball to SA 1 (so underused right now - imagine if more Ryu players can consistently get SA1 after sucessful OD fireball)
    - fHP is insane - so many things are possible now
    - chip damage mind games - this is one of the best things about Ryu, the mindgame he can force now with opp having to pick risky choices: parry, OD reversal, mash out lights - just to not block.
    - Ryu's trade combo is now actually feasible due to chip mind games and fHP (and Ryu's trade combos HURT)
    - light hasho is still a thing - that thing is a menace, not just for fake fireball, but also very awkward interaction when you can get a hit but have light hasho whiff (if that can be consistent, it can lead to more frame kills)
    - crMP is insanely stupid now - it's the universal tool for whiff punish, DR check, throw out willy nilly in neutral, it's anything tool now - and most Ryu experts are still not utilizing it fully
    - even his other not so used normals actually have good uses now : fHK, bHK (Ryu's axe kicks actually has some setplays now due to the bounce properties)
    - SA1 is 7 frame startup - people are still not utilizing this to punish.
    With these amount of changes, Ryu is way more complex to use now in S2 compared to S1 or even beta.

    He's a Ryu main but he knows nothing about Ryu actually. I was and I'm still a Ryu main since Street Fighter Alpha 3 Ryu and even if I switched from Ryu to Luke and Ken on SF6 for the first time I can say Ryu is way better than Ken and Luke today (even better than Akuma).
    I prefer facing a good Ken and Luke online than facing a good Ryu.
    He's just way too strong with all his normals. It's like he has a glue on his hitbox. And I don't even talk about his damage output...

    I agree with basically everything you said, except his OD fireball into SA1 is super inconsistent midscreen (Capcom please 🙏), but in the corner yes it can be very powerful. • @LeeZard27
    @LeeZard27 13 днів тому

    The fundamental difference between the Shoboes stems from the damage they can do to the drive gauge and how quick either one can put you in burnout. Ryu is oppressive while he's taking you to the corner to have his way with you. Ken on the other hand is really only oppressive once you've been put there. I'm still kinda studying Akuma, so I don't really know yet where he fits so far.

    • @A2ZOMG
      @A2ZOMG 12 днів тому

      I'd argue Ryu is actually more deadly than Ken when he puts you in the corner because he can turn any strike into a meterless safejump knockdown. This is ridiculously oppressive and safe pressure on the Drive Gauge in addition to forcing relatively strict fuzzy guard timing from the opponent. Also Ken doesn't have a ranged poke comparable to the safety of Ryu 6HK.
      Also his DR overhead links into a heavy normal that combos into two special moves which like 3.5k before canceling into super.

  • @jpVari
    @jpVari 13 днів тому

    I play him and jp. He feels stronger than he used to be for sure, to me. He doesn't win for you though.
    people also don't realize Ryu has the longest cr mk... I'm saying this but I bet you'll say it in 5 seconds in the video. Good stuff mura. I feel like I'm one of few that enjoys seeing their characters as strong lol
    OH look at that stand medium kick! I just discovered it's value vs zangief and have been exploring it in other matchups. God I love this game.

  • @tiongkiong
    @tiongkiong 13 днів тому

    It is more on the march up. Ken tool kits and fast drive made him a a stable across all the cast. Akuma fire ball that walk speed plus the tools, it different with Ken but it work across the cast too, don’t see hard match up for him yet.
    Ryu, fighting Guile, Rashid, Aki and Dee Jay, etc is unfavourable. Ken and Akuma handle them better. Ryu is at the spot having decent match up with most of the cast or 50:50 on 85% of the characters but struggle with few. While Guile is always there and Rashid is hot picked now. Buffing him a little bit might make him stronger than most of the cast but still solve the bad matchup due to his architect (he struggle with the character have better zoning than him and he don’t have the tool to force the issue)

    The perception of him being slow probably comes from his drive rush. Im still in the camp of waiting for people to actually win with him in major tournaments (semy has been winning and doing well with him even in season 1 so i wont count that just yet). He's definitely in a better spot and hes more fun to play but his problems +problem matchups have stayed pretty much the same imo.Ive been burnt too many times from seeing "Ryu got buffs!!! Hes top tier now!" Only then to find out no one plays him and he eventually shifts back down to mid/high mid tier (where he should be imo)

    Honestly, Ryu’s only issue is that he doesn’t play the meta as well as the other shotos and/or top 5 characters. Pro players gravitate towards characters that have fast drive rushes, amazing oki, corner carry etc…Ryu is good, but he doesn’t excel at any of these mentioned before. All the other shotos have better corner carry with less resources spent, and faster drive rushes to boot.

    From a bad player's point of view, I think ryu is perceived as 'not good' for tournament oriented players because his "target combo" game is nearly non existant.
    So, their perception goes like "I cannot pressure the way other characters do" and they cast him away from dedicated study and elaboration of new strategies.

  • @McMeatBag
    @McMeatBag 13 днів тому

    Ryu was always a good character. Just because Capcom made Luke "better Ryu" doesn't make Ryu a bad character. And that's IMO what kept him out of big tournament successes. Why play Ryu when you could play better Ryu, which also happened to easily be the best character in the game.
