    Great video, as always. One thing I would add is to double check for other parts that need to be painted the same color as the body. When I first started out I kept forgetting pieces that needed to be painted the body color (mirrors, hoods, spoilers) so I would have to go back and drag my materials out. Not a huge deal, but it was always annoying when I did it.

      I made a list with two different columns for all of the parts. One column for the different primer colors, and one column for the different paint colors. Worked out great. This way, like you said, I got all of the same colored primer parts painted at once, and all of the same colored paint parts colored at one time.

      Do it! Jun’s videos got me into it during the pandemic and it’s a super fun, meditative, relaxing hobby.
      It can take a decent amount of money to get into if you want an airbrush, all the tools, a good amount of paint colors, etc, but you can start for relatively cheap and build up from there.

      @@LOGEZZZZZBRO yeah that's the only thing I'm a little nervous about is the painting. As much as I actually love to paint with rattle cans and things, I'm hesitant to buy an air brush, if I can find a pre-painted kit like Aoshima makes I will absolutely give it a try

      @@neongrey784 Prepainted would be an awesome starting point. Honestly using Tamiya spray paints for the body isn’t hard. I’d say the trickiest part is masking the body after painting to paint all the black window trims. It’s time consuming but also super rewarding when complete.

    Came here from scale models (mostly ww2 planes) and miniature painting and...dear lord, the precision and patience are way up here. You guys are playing this hobby on hardmode.
    To have an understanding of differences:
    The clear finish for the airplane after priming Is 1200 at best;
    almost all paints are matte, you don't even need an airbrush for land vehicles and can hide any paint imperfections behind weathering;
    airplane canopies are small, and have raised parts, that helps with masking, no worries about making perfect windshield copy for the mask.

It was $68,in 99’ i believe! I loved the kit,still have it and from there got really deep into collecting these kits! Got deep into RC 1:10 too! The. got into model 1:24 hydraulics,and lowrider, custom molding diecast and airbrushing graphics! If you have an IG i’d love to send you pictures of what i had! • @JunsMiniGarage
      @JunsMiniGarage  2 роки тому +5

      Great question. Sometimes I do wash them with soapy water if the parts feel greasy. And if you are only painting with acrylic paint without using primer, giving them a wash and light sanding will ensure better paint adhesion. If I am lazy(I mostly am)then I just wipe them clean with isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol does a great job removing oil and grease.

    I also build, you do need thin jaw sidies, because some parts are to damn close to those small plastic branches, or sticks, & there still a bit to thick, i'm only just getting them inbetween the part & branch, thats how close these parts are, i have to slide the jaw back to the tip, then cut, & these sidies cost me $90 & have another a bit thicker.

    Quick question Jun, with priming, is it necessary if you car colour is similar to the plastic mold colour, I am making a tamiya evo 6 and am going to paint it white and the plastic is already white, do I still need to prime the body? Also I love the videos, not just these (they are really helpful) but all of your videos... 👍

    • @JunsMiniGarage
      @JunsMiniGarage  2 роки тому +2

      I will still prime it white even though the plastic color and the final color are the same. If you just paint it white without primer/checking/cleaning mold lines, the imperfections will show through the paint. Priming does allow you to check for imperfections and provide better paint adhesion.

    • @JunsMiniGarage
      @JunsMiniGarage  Рік тому

      Sanding is needed to remove production mold lines and flaws on the body. It also makes the shell rougher so the primer/paint will be able to bond to it more easily.👍

  • @khyo826
    @khyo826 Рік тому

    Do you sand the body of the car kit before spraying the surface primer? I sanded a little bit to make it coarse so that the surface primer would stick better to the car body. After that I spray painted with a color of choice. Then I put tamiya masking tape over the car body paint (after drying out for a week), I painted black for some detailing then removed the masking tape. It sadly took away part of the paint and primer. What is the fix for this? And how to prevent this from happening?

    • @JunsMiniGarage
      @JunsMiniGarage  Рік тому

      I did sand the body with 600-1000 grit before priming. Tamiya’s lacquer paint dries too a hard finish so ripping off paint rarely happens. If the masking tape ripped the paint off it might be too “strong” for plastic models. What masking tapes did you use? Try using Tamiya’s masking tapes. If the paint and primer had been removed then you might have to sand down the affected area and re prime and re paint.

    Hey Jun. You said the scribing pen is easier to use than the regular scribed. Does that mean I don’t have to invest in both tools and just invest in the scribing pen, instead of the regular scriber?

    • @JunsMiniGarage
      @JunsMiniGarage  2 роки тому

      Scribing pen is easier to control for rounded and curved areas, it’s not as sharp so using it to scriber straight lines isn’t very effective. A regular scriber is great for straight lines, it’s thin and sharp. I recommend getting both, you will be using both of them very often.👍
