We had a German Shepherd for 13 years and after she died we got a Rough Collie-Lab mix. He lived till 11 years and died 4 years ago. I miss him a lot. Both dogs were very friendly to everyone. They would bark but loved everyone.
HAHAHHAHAHA! That is the way our dog biscuit is. You pet her or give her a treat she would let you carry the place off HAHAHAHAHA> Thanks for watching 🙂
Hey Patriot (and Mrs. Patriot), great video! We keep dogs as well, and you are absolutely correct, different breeds possess different qualities and attributes. Excellent point. When the kids were small we kept Schousers. No shedding, loved the family life and fought off a German Shepard AFTER guiding all of the children onto the porch. Fourteen stitches later, he did it again when a Malimute came into the yard when the kids were out! AKC papered, runt of the litter, BEST family dog ever. Smart, obedient, tolerant and loving. Now the wife and I rescue pitbulls. Great dogs when they are loved and cared for properly. Kep up the good work. As far as the "talk too much" comments, I wouldn't pay them any mind. I like the fact that you explain things completely! Great job. Both of you! God bless
I really appreciate you watching and for all the kind words. A lot of people don't know this but Schnauzers are considered protection dogs. All of them will protect their owners but the giant Schnauzers are used often because of their protective nature and their size. They are smart and like you said them not shedding is a great bonus. My wife absolutely loves them. I appreciate you watching my friend :-)
Hello KP . I've got 3 dogs myself, a rotsky , a doberman and a great Pyrenees. The Dobie and Pyrenees extremely protective of my kids . My Pyrenees is also my outside alarm system . My rotsky is my buddy my protector, when I drop the go word may God have mercy on whomevers soul he is after
I grew up with German Shepherds but when I left home in 1990 haven’t had one until 6 weeks ago I finally got me one. She came from what I am thinking a bad situation but sure took to me and my family and I believe already would put her life on the line for any of us at 11 months old
🇺🇲🦅💜🙏🏼💜☕☕ Awesome advice. I have always had a dog in my life. Always big, usually black, and always a part of my family. 😊 Blessings to you and all your family.

Very informative. I have the opposite of big strong security Shepard... It's a Pomeranian. The understanding is he's my alarm system and I take care of the rest lol!
They are adorable! A watch dog is a huge asset. They are so keen. I have a friend who is in his 80s and can't hear very well at all. He has a little dog that hears and sees everything. You can't even quietly pull in the drive way that that dog don't jump up and alert him someone is there. That is a huge tactical asset. Thanks for watching 🙂
Good Information, I have two, a small jack russel and a large pit bull, they both bark and If I were to approach a house and here a dog that sounds like my pitt, I would do an about face and get the heck out of there, he sounds like a grizzly bear, Thanks K.P., Stay Safe. 🇺🇸
That is the ultimate goal. Having a watch dog bark and alert you or a dog sounding like a bear and deterring the threat is absolutely priceless. I appreciate you watching 🙂
I would be happy to oblige. Any specific topic you would like for the video? Protection, training, different breeds to get or avoid or Something in between?
@@TheKentuckyPatriot I have experience in training labs and golden retrievers for duck hunting, but everything you listed sounds great. Once I get some more land my wife and I want a German Sheppard for protection like you said another layer to protect out family. She's had one before, but I'm new to the breed
@@romans6two338 You will love them. They are a lot like labs and retrievers around you and your family. There are a ton of similarities but they have an all together different outlook when strangers come. They many times won't be welcoming to strangers even if they are your friends. They will have to be trained or somone could potentially get bit. I had a word I used with my GSD that passed away to let him know it was ok and that they were not a threat. I appreciate you my friend 🙂
I am so sorry to hear that. I know losing a dog is hard. I love labs and Shepherds. They are totally different but both are awesome breeds. Thanks for watching 🙂
👍👍very good video. Even my little 30# mixed dog is a good watch dog. No one can come close to our house without him alerting us. The best guard dog I ever had was a Chow who was very family friendly but did not like strangers in her yard.
That is what I like about a watching dog. They are so keen and are almost impossible to sneak up on. They are so much better at detecting threats than we are. A chow will eat you alive! No joke lol. I appreciate you watching 🙂
I have a great watch dog. In my neighborhood we are well-known for having an aggressive dog and no one will break in. One time a man tried breaking in and ran off and my ex wife was alone at home that time.
TKP. Good video. Thanks for sharing. Like you said a dog's bark in a big deterrent. We currently don't have a dog, but I think they are great especially for a woman living alone. Take care.
Our dog is very quiet and completely gentle with people, cats, chickens, ducks. She only gets defensive around big dogs she doesn't know well, so unless a burglar brings a large dog, she isn't much use except for keeping us in shape mentally and physically.😂
They get bad raps but pitbulls are the most loving , defensive ,loyal ,yet vicious to bad ppl dog ever. I've had pits my entire life. The kids were lil they'd push pull jump on and play with them .... And never saw one get upset at a child.
I have a German shepherd mix and a border collie, both are excellent watch dogs, note that I do not call them guard dogs, gaurd dogs / protection dogs have had bite training, if your dog hasn't had bite training, he's not a guard/protection dog...
I understand your point but respectfully disagree. Protection dog breeds will naturally and aggressively bite and protect instinctively. Just like those beagles we had would hunt naturally. I am not against training but I do not believe it is always necessary especially in some breeds. I appreciate you watching 🙂
I would be interested in how to find the right dog and how to get proper training for both of us. I would be looking for a guard dog, but not a really large one. Shadow is gorgeous.
Thank you so much. We love him. I am not sure where you live but I bet there are some reproable trainers nearby. I am not kidding some breeds are so easy to train you can literally train them yourself in minutes. Sit, shake etc. can be taught in on session of training. Make sure they are legit but you can get a lot of awesome information on UA-cam. I don't claim to be an expert but if you let me know what you mean by "not really large: I can offer you some breeds that I have had or would recommend for you to get. I appreciate you watching and wish you the very best :-)
Great breed. I absolutely love them. Their bark will shake the earth and they will not back down from anything. Great family protective dog breed! Thanks for watching :-)
Last week I watched a Ring video on Nextdoor that was taken near my home in Seattle. It was around 1 am and shows a lone female pull up to her house and start heading for the front door . As she goes through the gate a truck pulls up, parks in the street and a man gets out without closing his door and walks towards the door clearly holding an AR pistol . She had looked back when he pulled up but just went in the house . He stops at the gate , looks around then clearly says " Dog" into his phone and goes back to the truck and drives away . She was alone in the house except for her dog which he was able to see from the gate when it greeted her . My conclusion is this was a thwarted "follow home" robbery . Or worse .
@@TheKentuckyPatriot It was honestly like watching a movie being shot. I was tempted to try and copy the footage to show as an example but that seemed wrong as it was their personal situation. I will say this wasn't just punks or addicts taking advantage of a situation. The truck was new and expensive looking, the man well dressed and purposeful. This wasn't his first time and he obviously had a partner or more. And more so, she wasn't what you consider a common "mark". Older used car, house was modest in a modest part of town , so it shows it can happen to anybody .
Wow what timing for this subject. I am looking my next dog. I want a smaller breed as watch dog to alert me. I have always had big dogs however due to where I live a small vocal breed is my choice.
So many great options. Let me know what you choose. I can't wait. I am excited for you. They are a lot of work and hassle but well worth it. You will have a little buddy for life. Thanks for watching 🙂
Our downstairs neighbor has a Jack Russell terrier that barks loudly at everyone but its owners. Super annoying, but if you want to have time to wake up, put on body armor and greet suspicious people at the door she is the perfect dog. I think I'd get a dog like that if we lived out in the country on a large lot. Your neighbors will be unhappy in a city or suburb though.
@@TheKentuckyPatriot Yes. People think they can work in an apartment because they are small but they are one of the worst apartment breeds. Much better suited to rural environments.
I've often heard firearms experts say if you buy a firearm and don't train with it, the gun is a danger to yourself and others. That goes double for dogs because you can't leave them in a safe for years! I know people who have been bitten by poorly trained protection dogs while guests in someone's home. Both guns and dogs require regular training to be effective.
