Marty Robbins Sings 'Running Gun.'

- Another of the legendary Gunfighter Ballads' sung by Marty and his boys Don Winters and Bob Sykes aka Bob Bishop. It was said that Elvis loved to sing these songs when in Germany with the US Army; good taste the King had!
Well, it's pretty dang hard to enjoy singing more than listening to Marty. What struck me enough to stop the video early was the interaction of the three men. It's not hard to see they really have good chemistry together and genuinely like each other. The two each side of Marty spend the first part of this song trying not to laugh at his improvised John Wayne impression. I'm pretty sure it was improvised as it took them by surprise. They have this easy going style between them comes from real friendship, not just hired singers for the star. That chemistry makes the song better and makes watching it more fun also. God, country music needs a Marty these days, but God has him singing upstairs and if we want to hear him personally, we'll have to wait the good wait.
Ronald McReynolds can’t wait to meet him up there someday
Man, now that is something to look forward to. Bravo!
So true.
when I was a kid, I thought he meant he actually sold his gun. lol
don417 thats cute
Lol. It would be so cool to be around when Marty was still alive making music
Running guns Haha
Well, someone probably sold it, but definitely not him
The narrator implies he was what is colloquially referred to as a hired gun when he did the things that haunt him. He did sell his gun, in a figurative matter.
I live in Australia, the year is 2020. I still try to play at least one of his songs everyday. He is still the greatest.
Your a tru running gun👌🏼
Always will be
Attention aaand salute
I actually think that he was the greatest that ever lived. No other Country singer or Pop singer could match him for his sheer versatility. Much as I like Elvis, Crosby or Sinatra, none of these ever wrote a song yet Marty wrote most of his own material.
Add the great voice and the way he used it to the mix and he's untouchable in my eyes (and ears).
I think so too.
I agree with you.
To sit down and write these songs tells you a lot about him. My favorite country singer - I love playing these whilst cooking.
this is the only song I've ever come across that sounds better recorded live over the studio version. or is it just Marty's voice?
I love Marty Robbins' music, and especially this song. I don't know how many times I've played his greatest hits while camping in Eastern Oregon.
There only comes a "Marty Robbins" once in a lifetime! The only one who might have close was Johnny Horton!
Amen
I like how this song is almost like "big iron" from Texas Red's perspective. The only inconsistency being that his life ended in an ambush rather than a duel.
Marty was the greatest unquestionably!!!
I literally smiled as soon as Marty started singing
I wish there was music like this today.
Me too
But we have cardi b and other stuff like that
Yeah but Cardi is no match for any of Marty’s songs. He was the best artist.
@@courtenayoeltjen for a second i read that the other way around
@@cornnfleak4601 How? I hate Cardi B’s music.
@@courtenayoeltjen so do i i just misread
Its not a different view of big iron!
Too right Marty
Best live voice confirmed
Him smiling at the camera made me smile ☺️
Marty was one of the greats of all time. I met him after the NASCAR race at Ontario (CA) in '71. He started 22nd and finished 7th. Hell of a driver and one of the nicest folks you could ever meet. His live shows were hilarious, because he had a great sense of humor and would always interact with the audience. RIP Marty. You'll be missed forever.
Great western song of Marty and his lifetime compadres Don and Bobby.I love this music but most of all I love this music of Marty Robbins and his gunslingers.Thank you Tarquin and thank you Marty for sharing your talent with us[your fans].Rest in peace.
This video in a nutshell: 🎶🌝🤠🌚🎶
I am used to listen Marty's Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. And love it so much. I miss Marty Robbins, the Cowboy I knew.
the greatest gunfighter ballad song of all time, and believe me,i have herd them all many times.
One of the first songs that introduced me to Marty many years ago.Still think he's the best.RIP
Just awesome to be able to sing straight off live in such amazing harmony. Brilliant, timeless stuff!
I really miss this guy. My Mom loved his material and would sing it all the time when I was a child.
What a voice. The best singer of a cowboy ballard ever.
cheers tarquin. i cant beleive there's a video to this great song. this is one of marty's beat ever songs. thanks yet again
Marty was simply the best ever-he enjoyed what he was doing so much-totally natural, totally great
@5inthehole
They were two of the greatest Nashville Sound singers and though contemporaries they didn't get along which was quite sad.
This is Big Iron from Texas Red's POV.
Omg yes lol
Had the pleasure of seeing this Legend at wembley arena in 1981 loved his music then and still do,passed this on to my own children who are now adults & Marty music lovers.
Bro it’s hilarious how his voice is just that good new country could never coming from a young guy
Personally this could the the story of Texas Red
Marty you're the best! I remember these old videos from yesterday. This man had fun with life, from singing to Nascar.
Running Gun was written by my uncles Tompall and Jim Glaser. They and uncle Chuck sang backing vocals on this song and many others that Marty recorded during that time. That was in the late 1950s, early 60s, before their own career as Tompall and The Glaser Brothers took off.
Love this song - Loved Marty Robbins - my Whole family did,
actually acclaimed as one of the best voices in any genre of music of all time
Fallout 4 somehow brought me here :D
It's seems that in a lot of Marty's songs "20 notches" is a recurring theme, does anybody know if this is significant in any way?
Thanks for posting this...he always had a smile and I think they liked trying to make each other laugh !
What a great song, and sung by a true artist-likes what he's doing and cares about his audience enjoying it as much as he does. What a loss when we lost Marty but at least those of us who are old enough remember when we had him, and great music like this.
Isn't it just effing amazing that they shut off all the comments on this song? YT4U.
i love love you marty cant wait to see you in heaven singing to our lord jesus christ R.I.P
simply stunning love this
Elvis was right.
I quite agree with you. I would consider him one of the all time great American vocalists and not just simply a Country singer. There was no kind of music he couldn't tackle and he could write the songs for any genre he chose. To me, he has never received the true recognition his talent deserved.
great. people today could learn from this harmony !
Thank you
🙏🤗🍺cheers
written by Tompall and Jim Glaser, the backup singers (w/ brother chuck) on original album.
really weird how he was frown'd upon by so many more well known country artists, yet i personaly think martys gunfighter balleds album is a classic
Thanks for posting! Marty Robbins + cowboy tunes = Magic!
Tarquin, thank you for these great songs. Thank you so much for posting live versions!! Great.
thats true
his names not as comonly known compaird to cash & nelson & many others
but he sure had writing skill
i loved the gunfighter ballad stuff as a kid
Linebaugh custom would be the appropriate tool,if that's how you make your living.
The greatest singer with some other greats as backers.
Didn't Know Tim Allen Was That Old
Fantastic!! I always loved this song. Great find!
He did some good gunfight ballads!
Don Winters and Bobby Sykes were also very good. Don Winters could really yodel too.
They were and still are so very good.
There will never be another Marty Robbins. My favorite singer of all time
Written by Tompall and Jim Glaser. Love this song!
I was born in 1981, and i grew up with this music, no i am not american i am british, but my father was also brought up with this music, and i thank him for playing it while i was a youngster.. this takes me back, but i love all the stories they sing.. Marty is great. just like Jim Reves, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, and all the others.. they sing stories that mean something..
just cant better marty the voice the story backing singers music every song was just so good wish he was still here rip marty
"Artists" just dont sing/harmonize like this anymore. Nor do they have half the talent. This world needs to end in order for good music to reach the promise land lol.
This is hilarious if you turn on captions
Yes, I remember this, I had the 45 of El Paso, and this was on the "B" side. it got played many times!
Thanks for posting this blast from the past!
14 years late to the Texas Red lore drop
What are the names of his sidekicks?
Marty was one of the best!!! A forgotten fact about Marty was he was also a Winston Cup Nascar driver in the 70's. Richard Petty called him one of the best.
I get Misty whenever I hear this great man.....Big Iron I listen too when I'm feeling wheezy with asthma..Some how it's a little easier Thanks Mate...Jimbo Australia
thanks for the info. reeves was good too. where did the crash take place? and where was marty? i dont remember.
Marty Robbins... GOD BLESS YOU SIR...
i brought my 1st record of marty 35 years ago and still have them, but i want to get them on disc,i want them for in the car :)
the greatest western and country singer ever and my favorite. God bless all of you marty fans for keeping his music alive and also his memory.
Not bad for a B'side.
he is like the only good country singer
ADD ALL THE COWBOY SINGERS TOGETHER AND THEY STILL WILL NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO MARTY ROBBINS..
No, see post just below the video for info on Marty's backup singers. They were great, too!
Great guy, he had the talent, the humor, I so enjoy him,
vdbenny sent me here
Is this the second song to Big Iron? It says his Six shooter has 20 notches. Hmm
Yes. Same story, told by Texas Red himself, who just changed a few things here and there to make himself look like a better person.. But we all know he was a regular outlaw ;)
Plus in big iron texas red had not cleared leather and in here too
Davy Boy, Whitby. Little Joe and The Hanging Tree my favourites.
love this song and love marty he is the greatest singer ever
Glaser Bros. are singing with him aren't they? They're on the album.
It was my understanding that this was Texas Red's side of the "Big Iron" story. But in "Big Iron," it's a ranger and not a bounty hunter that takes him down. How disappointing.
Of course, it is Texas Red telling his side of the story here. And of course he wanted everyone to think he was shot by a bounty hunter, but luckily we have a true and impartial account of the facts in Big Iron..
love this song and love marty he is the best
mine too, i love marty. he's my favorite country singer
Man I wish I grew up in this time.
they done so good R.I.P marty robbins and tnx
