    Why don't you just tell them that Akans are matrilineal. They trace the lineaage through only female members. So succession is through female: Children do not succeed their fathers but their mothers, mothers' sisters, mothers brothers from the same brothers, maternal cousins and their maternal grandmother. Your maternal cousins are your brothers and sisters, and not cousins.
