zombiesnyder13 Yeah I think Matrix stole a lot of ideas from various movies and tv shows but Matrix in it's core is really original... means if we look that movie as the best possible combination of all of that ideas, it's original... and it is, in it's own way... Matrix is really one special movie.
1999 was like the best year for films. American Beauty, Eyes Wide Shut, The Matrix, Fight Club, The War Zone, Fantasia 2000, The Blair Witch Project, The Insider, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, The Green Mile...............JESUS CHRIST THAT's GOOD.
This film deserved more academy awards. Cinematography, original screenplay, best supporting actor (Laurence. F), and best picture. American Beauty: I loved it, but The Matrix is more superior in my opinion.
The Matrix shown the unique sound and visual effects that people never seen or even could thought of before. Hats off to the visual effects team, they created a new level of VFX in Hollywood that time in 1999, which now evolving still in 2020.
I can't believe these movies are almost 20 years old, now. I remember seeing all of these films in theaters when I was little. My Dad took me to see Star Wars about 5 times, and we saw the Matrix like 3.
very well deserved. should have also been nominated for and won best picture, best director(s), best original screenplay, best cinematography, and supporting actor...
avery brooks we agree do differ. For me it was like a game changer. Everything changed after Matrix Saga, speacially the way we now tend to perceive reality.
***** Nope. It isn't even considered in the top 10 landmark CGI films. By the time the Matrix was released CGI had already been around for close to a decade. The CGI in the Matrix was deffinately great but it wasn't ground breaking as most of the CG effects it used had already been implemented in many films prior. Terminator 2 was the first mainstream film ever to use CG and back in 1991 no one had seen any extensive CGI like that before. It was ground breaking and paved the way for future CGI films. James Cameron is a pioneer in being the first to implement new technology. Check out Top 10 landmark CGI films. You can even google it, T2, Jurassic Park and the original Tron are considered the big land mark films but the Matrix doesn't even get a mention. I like the matrix for it's story and fight scenes, the CGI is also good but it's certainly not ground breaking
Steven Victor Tutauha Sorry but you're wrong, The Matrix came out in 1999 and it WAS ground breaking on the CGI field, no movie ever owned such advanced visual effects and also The Matrix is the absolute pioneer of the bullet-time effect.
MaximumPayne12 Yeah good point bullet time was deffinately unique, but I'm just going by my own personal experience. I remember being more mesmerised when I saw T2 at the cinemas compared to the matrix because when T2 came out in 1991 we had not seen any CGI before. T2 was the first, and it paved the way for films like the Matrix. Research :)
Steven Victor Tutauha I still agree that T2 back in 1991 had even more impact than when Matrix came out (T2 probably being my favorite sci.fi movie of all time), but in your previous comment I felt you discredited Matrix saying it was not ground breaking or cause not being shown on the Top 10 CGI movies list. It might have not been aaas majestic as T2 but it surely showed us a stunning revolutionary variety of new visual effects :) That's my opinion too
Great, brilliant parts 1 and 2...Just fantastic...My fafourite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings trilogy (and just below are The Matrix trilogy and Nolan's and Tarantino's masterpieces), it is very strong opponent in such events like the Oscar...But I'm really sad that The Matrix 1 and 2 had SUCH A SMALL NUMBER OF OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!! it is terribly unfair
They should have filled the last two spots in Visual Effects with The Mummy and Galaxy Quest. They should have filled the last two spots in Sound Editing with The Mummy and Being John Malkovich
My Version of 2000 Oscars for Best Visual Effects: The Matrix (Winner) Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (nominee) Stuart Little (nominee) Sleepy Hollow (nominee) The Mummy (nominee)
The Matrix 1 does feel like in the year 2000 The very first 2000 year ever happened Ever made even Fight Club & Star Wars But I know it was back in 1999 but it does feel like in the year 2000
Post the whole damn show! Obviously you have the footage, and the rights to post it. Why show us this much but not the whole thing? It's not like your trying to adverise a 13 year old Oscar's show.
When 7x Mr Olympia also a Become a Professional Actor then Hosting Oscar is nothing for that guy!!! Long living Legend Arnold Schwarzenegger aka Terminator
In the ending credits of movies, we see people credited as "supervising sound editors" who are the people who go up on stage when the film won the Oscar in this category - again: "supervising sound editor". And there are other people credited as "sound editors". And there are still other people credited as "foley artists". If the foley artists make the foley (the noises and sounds), and sound editors make the editing for the sound, I wonder: What the supervising sound editors do after all? I don't believe they just supervise it, because this is not creating something. So, what the supervising sound editors do?
Jesse Bolt Those other positions handle specific and smaller elements in the overall soundtrack under the supervising sound editor's direction, who in turn work with the director of the overall production. Some even go under the title of sound designer.
The most confusing thing is that they presented WB the whole trilogy at once before 'Bound'. I guess people at WB said 'what the hell' when they saw all the box office money of the first one.
Did anyone notice in this Oscars when other celebs arrived for presenting the Oscar their Oscar win moment shown on the big screen but when Arnold arrives since he had no Oscar wins they show his iconic movie scenes from terminator 2 & Conan the barbarian now that's much epic entrance than any other presenters
Diego Pisfil Out of the nominees I thought it had the weakest sound design it’s still great but not as good as Matrix or Phantom Menece. Fight Club is my favourite film out of the three though.
Diego Pisfil as a film Fight Club is light years better then Phantom menace but the sound design in Menace is better. Fight Club is mostly punches hitting the body while Star Wars has new creative sounds like the sounds of the pods. Phantom menace has better sound design then Fight Club.
+Parsa SaDRI Won what? Fight club doesn't stand a chance in either of these categories, even against The Phantom Menace. It did deserve something though.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Chala geya or Kisi ne uske Sath baat b nahi ki thanks b nahi this bola this is very sad for me I'm biggest fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger
Matrix should've been nominated for best original screenplay
and cinematography
Maybe
It's not so original... lol... they stole a little bit of story from twilight zone episode and dark city.. lol
*****
Actually, it made me think is also like The Truman Show

1999 was a year of creativity. Many good movies and music was created.
Yeah but at the same time that year has perhaps the most disappointing film ever released in the history of cinema star wars the phantom menace
You missed Boys don't cry 😇

The mummy too
Don't forget Three Kings.

Cinematography, original screenplay, best supporting actor (Laurence. F), and best picture.

i disagree with you except for cinematography
Well, it had 4 nominations and it won 4 awards. in few words, it won all the nominations
Fight club should have won best picture
Matrix should'be won too for Cinematography

Tony stark
Mr Anderson

John Matrix gave the Oscar to the Matrix.
How clever
Mr Anderson
Commando meets The Matrix.😅😅
The Phantom Menace clip looks like the Microsoft desktop screen.
Works for 1999 I guess 😂
The Matrix did a clean sweep at the Oscars!
Nominated for 4 awards and won 4 awards. And Keanu making sure of who he was seated amidst . . . just in case.
The Matrix...what a movie...
Look how very 90s futuristic the set is!
Arnold is such a legend 👌🏻
Fight Club really deserves more nominations.
When was the time The Oscars Means Something
"Thank you for putting your efforts behind the spirit of doing visual effects in service to a story"
We don't have that today, do we.
For the Matrix to come up against Star Wars on the Visual Effects battlefield and won....You have to truly see it for yourself!
Star Wars got some weak clapping that year.
Arnold walked in like a fuckin boss
The Matrix has great sound effects editing and visual effects.

The Matrix was amazing

Arnold Schwarzenegger is absolute killer

However you feel about Matrix 2 and 3, you can't deny they were made from their heart
First 2 sequels are ok
The Matrix is a great film and a classic but Terminator 2 is the milestone in visual effects and it was also released 8 years earlier
I'll have to agree on that

The Matrix (WINNER)
The Mummy
Sleepy Hollow
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Stuart Little
The Oscars was so cool back in the day. Nowadays? Complete bullshit
Top secret: John wick was there he was on secret mission
Sólo faltó que Keanu Reeves se llevará el Oscar a mejor actor, desde entonces se lo deben 🤩😍
Arnold stood like a mountain 🏔️

Why Being John Malkovich?
Fight Club VS The Matrix. LOL

Chow Yun Fat THE ONE !!!
