    I just returned from 2-week vacation in Austria/Italy, and your videos are an elixir for the soul. While the history, art, culture and food was amazing, the 33 celcius heat was unbearable and the tourist throngs got to be too much. As much as human-created "things" are astounding, nothing compares to nature's own majesty. I got caught up on your last few videos this morning on the patio outside with my coffee, and they were just the thing I needed to restore some semblance of peace and solitude. Never underestimate the impact of what you say or do, no matter how small or significant you might think, because they can affect someone else halfway across the country or the world, in the most meaningful ways. Thanks for doing what you do, and being who you are, Amanda. ❤

    Spectacular whale footage! I don't enjoy being around a lot of people, I think that is because I ran a woman owned gear manufacturer shop. 50 employees and all that goes with it. Retired exhausted but glad to be away from the rat race, I enjoy nature, reading and my dog and cat. And watching the deer and their babies that eat the apples and pears from my little orchard is enjoyable. I look forward to your videos. Have a wonderful week!

    Solitude is beautiful, in the Pacific Northwest it is paradise! You produce vlogs which captures the moment, I feel right there with you in the comfort of my home, in the heat of Texas. I do have air conditioning, but for a moment watching you I feel myself on a cool, moist, island in the Pacific Northwest!

    Hahaha the crunching noise. Ignorance is bliss. As for preferring solitude, I definitely get it. I find it emotionally draining to be around people for too long. I am not antisocial just enjoy my own company. It gives me time to recharge. My mum said I was like that as a child too. I could play and entertain myself in my room all day. I think that’s why I enjoy watching your videos. I can tell you are happy and content on your little island. The whale video was fab! Have a great week.

      thanks. When I was in my 20s and early 30s, I constantly felt like there was something wrong with me b/c I didn't enjoy spending time with a ton of people. My friends thrived in social settings, while I felt drained and out of place. It wasn't until my early 40s that I finally figured out that I was happiest single and doing exactly what I wanted to be doing. It was such a great feeling let go of the need to conform. We face so much pressure by society to 'fit in' and follow the expected path, but the truth is, happiness doesn't have a one-size-fits-all formula. It's about finding what truly brings you joy, even if it looks different from everyone else's journey.

      that's a beautiful area. during COVID a guy was selling is 2acre property on Sonora Island for $18k. if had $18k sitting around i woulda bought it. now the same properties are in the $100k range. unfortunately we can only burn beach wood here due to governement regulations. this area is protected so other than 'windfalls' beach wood is all we got. the woodstoves definitely don't last as long.

    • @AmandaOffGrid
      @AmandaOffGrid  3 місяці тому

      a charge controller is a device that 'controls' the power that comes in from your solar panels. it receives the power and sends it to your batteries. when your batteries are full you don't want the solar panels to keep dumping power into them or they could explode. the charge controller detects when the batteries are full and drops the charge down to a trickle charge (it's called 'float'). batteries can sit in 'float' mode indefinitely without getting damaged.

    That exercise in annoyance using one hand only to screw a fastener into hard wood because the other hand was in charge of the light might have been shorter had you used a headlamp for vision and two hands to maintain a straight line for the screws. When I have to do stuff like that I first put my head on the view of the screw head noting the size of the space allowed for the driver. The length and width of the Phillips head driver has to fit the screw precisely before force turning it can happen. I especially abhor using two different kinds of screws for the one device. Cause laying on ones side reaching arms above head is not a very sustainable position: compressing my breathing and diaphragm while giving up seeing what my actions are doing outside my vision line. Ya just have to stop being in a hurry so that what little optimum advantage I have can actual accomplish the mission. My hands are weak at that angle so I have to use one hand to push forward into the screw head and turn it with the other hand in a controlled, unwobbly motion otherwise the driver leaves the screw head and limited breathing capacity makes me rush. Doing things by hand feel alone is a whole other universe I’ve discovered that teaches me to be more patient than my strong willed brain wants to be. Thanks for including the whale play and the seagull sounds. The whole video is quite good visually creating a view of solemn quiet that I too crave a good bit. I’m happy that you’ve changed to the better solar controller and commend you on getting that task completed. I must say that your motor sailing craft appears very clean and taken care of nicely. Do you do any pleasure trips besides going to do shopping? I envy you except for the bears of course. I developed a strong aversion to them during my backpacking days. A long time gone now but also their population has become vitalized. I wont sleep in their house anymore without an electric fence. My heart belongs there in the mountains and I know it. I’m good.

    • @AmandaOffGrid
      @AmandaOffGrid  3 місяці тому

      kinda. majority of firewood comes from the ocean and often these logs will be bone dry inside (not always), so technically it's been seasoning for who knows how long floating around out there. the logs i am stacking now have been sitting by the wood stove for about 3 months and were super dry when the owner bucked them. they won't be burned until October/November.
