The NFL's 40 years and older club is one of the rarest clubs to make it into, with less than 70 members ever. In this video, I go over the oldest NFL player ever, along with the oldest at other positions on the field.

So I just wanted to add some notes to this video.
    1) when I go over the oldest at “the other positions”, I go over the oldest players in the MODERN ERA. There were guys who were technically older but they played in the 1920’s.
You can look at the list for yourself here www.profootballhof.com/football-history/40-and-over-club/
    2) still working the kinks out on the face cam video style. Let me know what you think or if you have any constructive criticism of this video down below. Thanks!

My favorite George Blanda reference was on the 70s show “Happy Days” which was set in the 1950s. On one show from 1976 Ralph referred to Blanda as being “washed up” & Richie (Ron Howard) said “he has 2 or 3 years left.” The game was taking place in 1956!

      😀Yes here’s the IMDB description:
At the beginning of the show, Mr. Cunningham, Richie, Ralph, Potsie and Fonzie are watching an NFL game between the (Chicago) Bears and the (Chicago) Cardinals. They debate about putting in the Bears quarterback, George Blanda, and Richie says he thinks George Blanda has "a couple good years" left in him to play football. The joke in this situation is that this particular game was played in the 1956 season, with Blanda having already played in 8 NFL seasons, yet George Blanda was still playing in the NFL in 1975, two decades after the setting for this episode. George Blanda played for the Oakland Raiders during the 1975 season and the Raiders season/Blanda's career ended with a loss in the NFL playoffs two weeks before this episode aired on television.

@Allan Charles OK, in his 26 yr career he was a starter at Qb. for 5 yrs in the AFL .
But a kicker for all 26 yrs.kinda provided grounds for my comment.
As for winning the AFL titles, would be like winning the XFL title in today's game.
Don't get me wrong, think what George did was great .
Also threw for 42 int's in one yr. at Houston.
Those 3,000 yrds and 36 td's came from his 1st yr in AFL ,after 10 yrs in the NFL.

    • @marvinflatt6947
      @marvinflatt6947 3 роки тому

@Allan Charles No disrespect intended, they were just beginning the AFL and didn't get National attention until they Drafted Joe Willie Namath and signed him away from the NFL.
Halas signed him for $ 600.00 dollars, but did pay him more when he actually made the team.
Agree with the Starts until he got injured but it was less than 10 games tho.
As far as winning the the first 2 AFL titles, that league was far less talented , but it only took them 6-7 yrs to get legitimate talent to compete with the NFL.
Can honestly say I never seen a AFL game on TV until like 1965-66.
Sorry but only compared them to XFL because it is new now too.
Don't think I'm tarnishing the HoF's from AFL because the NFL does recognize the early years now.Just like when you go to Canton now, you see USFL stats on some HoF'ers plaques.
If the int's don't matter ,then Paul Krause wouldn't have the all-time NFL Record of 81 then .He played in that era too.
      As far as his int's / td's
      TD's (236) Int's (277)

I must say.. watching George Blanda was a treat.. I have watched football from 1961 to date.. In the 70’s every time he went on the field I got goosebumps.. It’s impossible to describe the feeling.. Just amazing this man who play with such heart.. While I am at it I must say Gale sayers and Dick Butkus we’re really great players in the era.. Thx for the video ….I got the feeling all over again about George Blanda..😊😀😋

I feel lucky to have seen George Blanda play live. In Arrowhead. He kicked the game winning FG in 10 degree weather. He was amazing. I began watching the Raiders in 1965 when I was five. I watched ALL the classic games. I just remember Blanda being the hero so many games. Even though it sucks being a little older, i feel fortunate to have been able to see all those great games.

Without question. He's a great for more than just stats. His durability, talent, work ethic, selflessness, and intangibles he brings to a locker room are off the charts . The fact that he's going to on an active NFL roster as a running back, and will have a son starting his freshman year of college football at Southern Miss is almost as mind-blowing.

I was 14 and watched Blanda save the game 5 times that year. It was amazing! I bet he's the only player to score a touchdown, extra point and field goal in the same game. He'd have probably got a touch back too if they would have let him play defense, he was that focused on getting it done that season.
