- On todays episode of how messed up is messed up… We took out a Santa Cruz to find out its potential limits and boy did we find them quick. This is an episode that will definitely have to be redone. Comment below if you think we should run it back or you’ve seen enough.

The fact the Santa Cruz is constantly compared to trucks is a compliment to it. Santa Cruz is no expert at one thing. However it can do a little bit of everything.
Want a 6 second 0-60? Santa Cruz can do it. Ya want the smooth ride of an suv? Santa Cruz has it. Want a truck bed? Santa Cruz has it. Want the cargo compartments like an suv? Santa Cruz has it. Want something you can tailgate with? Santa Cruz can do it. Ya want some fun bells and whistles? Santa Cruz has some. Want something that looks good on the inside as well as outside? Santa Cruz has it
I agree with all of this till it comes to going off-road so far it disappointed me twice now
@@TrailMilitia yeah it seems to be no expert in it when it comes to handling larger bumps in the road and a 2 inch lift just doesn’t help that much it seems. Gravel road, dirt, and snow that is all level it’s htrac seems to do pretty well on. Overall in personal opinion I would label it as a road vehicle and can do light off roading if ya absolutely need to though it just can’t seem to climb over heavier terrain that a forerunner and other off road vehicles could pry handle.
@@Blackeyemofo that’s probably the best way to suit it I would expect it to be equal to atleast a SUBIE but it really didn’t get close. I’ll be taking it out one more time I’m stock form to see how it does
I think people don't get the concept around the Santa Cruz and its capabilities. It's the FIRST of its kind in the United States. You simply can't compare it to the Ford Bronco, Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, etc, because it's not in those respective realms. That would be like comparing a fish on how well it can climb a tree. It's literally in a realm of its own (unless comparing it to a Ford Maverick). It's the pack mule of the automative world (i.e., it does not excel at one thing but can do just about anything you need it to do at any given notice). This is why so many people are buying it, because of its versatility. Generally speaking, If you directly compare it to a truck, off-road vehicle, etc, you will be disappointed. If you look at the Santa Cruz as a versatile workhorse whose capabilities are relatively present in every area, then you won't be as skeptical.
I think this an awesome test at showing the capabilities of the Santa Cruz. Not many videos show it with the right set of tires on it tackling this type of challenge. When Hyundai goes back to the drawing board on how to evolve the Santa Cruz, I think they'll be pretty pleased with its current status.
Absolutely agree I’m comparing it to honestly itself this minor break was more of a lift issue. I think it looks great and I believe there still some things to find out about it.
Subaru baja comparison or el camino is more in common with santa cruz
I'm getting ready to hit the trails today coming back from El Paso, Texas to California, Apple valley. Me and my wife and my daughter taking our 2019 Jeep Wrangler on out. Going to go hit the trails out there in the back desert close by the lava tubes. Hope to see you one day brother. Take care of yourself
Awesome man it’s going to be equally as toasty out here
That's a bummer I hope the company that makes the leveling kit stands behind it.
Shake runs are super important. Trail militia doing the community right! Everyone should check sway links after this vid no excuses
Thank you and absolutely people get all wild about how bad a vehicle is but half the time they never go out. This driver not only is new but caught a weak point which I think is more a lift issues then the Hyundai itself
@@TrailMilitia yeah man it’s a shame ppl really don’t have an open mind for different rigs. I love seeing a vehicle you don’t usually see on a trail. I helped a Jetta out once in Anza and I was mind blown lol. I was just happy to see how far it got lmao it was awesome. Dragged it to a road but still made my day seeing people try.
most lift kits now include a new set of front sway bar links, i have one going in on my 2024 soon
Thanks for sharing this. Looking forward to the update video. The Santa Cruz is actually something I'm eyeing.
Same here man I can’t wait to do the second round of this
When is the 2nd run happening? I have a maverick and a ridgeline if u wanna do a comparison against the Santa Cruz
@@k20z3allmotorFTW would love to put each one through the paces send me a DM on Instagram
Awesome video
Looking forward to part 2
When you guys posted the sneakpeek on insta i know exactly what it was, the same piece has issues for many spacer lifts on subarus, usually the extension on the strut snaps off rather than the sway bar endlinks, but i would get some quick release sway bar endlinks
Ohh snap was that you who guessed it. Yea we are going to figure out a quick disconnect that exact tab was the culprit
Thanks for showing this. I heard people were trying to put lift kits on em. I have not with mine. Its been hard to find finished lifted versions of it.
Yea that lift on this one was very cheap and not well built at all I would wait
@@TrailMilitia Sorry I would have to disagree, Truxxx has been around for a long time and have great customer service. I had their first Ridgeline lift kit on my 2006 with no issues for 13 years
@@440tomcat maybe for the ridgeline it was for this it was not. We are around fabrication all the time and see what fails very often just out of the numerous hours we wheel. This could have been a they won’t wheel it that hard kit which does happen. Nothin on the brand as almost every company has parts fail
Maybe next time he uses the 4 wheel lock. I own one it's by the shifter press the button works like 4 wheel dr.
George...can I recommend a Honda ridgeline. That would be cool to see u put it thru the paces. Have a good day and keep up the videos bro. There like my novellas
Great suggestion I actually have one in mind. Ill get one out there soon
I think he was forcing it too much. As soon as I don’t feel it going, I would let go, back up and try again.
With the awd systems you gotta let them work a bit. It’s different with a 4wd vehicle
Should have never changed it...After market stuff! All I need is more grip tires
I agree considering what happened
What size sway bar links are those? Can they be updated to something more sturdy?
Honestly I cant tell you if they can be upgraded but they are extended ones from that lift. Im sure they are OEM or weaker by the way it snapped
One thing the dude didn’t mention is that the turbo version has a dual clutch transmission, which doesn’t have a torque converter, so many channels have had these Kia/Hyundai’s easily overheat. The normally aspirated 2.5 had an 8 speed automatic transmission. Izzy should just turn this Santa Cruz into a street racing machine. Those turbo santacruz’s are quick! Build out his 2.5 NA for this stuff.
I am thinking it is also a WET 8 speed trans.
Yeah that's what I did I got the non turbo
N/A 2.5 has a normal auto 8 speed my ex wife has one. I told her to stay away from the turbo cause she wanted to tow and offroad and Hyundai dct don’t last very long especially with offroad and towing abuse.
I have the SEL model(Non-Turbo w/ 8Speed). Have taken it through a lot worse than that with stock tires. But mine is not lifted. Also, the traction control limits the crap out of this thing in those conditions. I always have to turn it off. It could be because of the standard transmission I can do more. But I would suggest experimenting more with the traction and drive modes a little more. I have the HTRAC system on my 2021 Santa Fe and I get similar results. It at least works as well as my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk minus the preset traction modes.
Your experience may vary. But I traded in my Jeep Renegade for the Santa Cruz. Have not looked back..... Thanks for the video....
This honestly stilll leaves a lot of room for wheeling I believe his lift was what caused the problem. He definitely needs more seat time to get used to all the features also. Update video will come soon
@@TrailMilitia I hope my tone was encouraging and not critical. That was my intent. I get a lot of use out of mine. Unfortunately I get frustrated when someone does a test on a vehicle I own and it fails. Especially when I have done a lot of things they were trying to do. Will be looking forward to the update. Thanks for your response!!
@@phineashenshaw your tone was perfect Brotha I’m not here to make things fail on the contrary I love to see the new tech work. I was just disappointed it ended so quickly this time around but we will bring it back when the owner is ready and give it another go. Where are you located maybe we can have you as a guest also.
@@TrailMilitia I am in the Dallas Tx. area. But my work has me travel all over. This is my real name. Look me up.
@@phineashenshaw gotcha if you have IG follow me on there you ever in socal hit me up would be dope to link up with other Santa Cruz drivers
Sway bar extension parts why would they even give you a piece of metal for extension part why don’t they just give you a sway bar in links
Champ, we need an update run vid for this one. I Subbed.
Happening next week thanks for the sub
Did you guys find out the issue? Was it the bracket? I have the same lift and now I’m concerned 😟
The bracket is definitely a weak point and should be addressed. I would notch it somehow so it doesn’t move at all
@@TrailMilitia did he have wheel spacers on it?
@@jarobetech703 no spacers
They did a awesome job with the styling. Wish ford did a better job with the maverick styling, way to bland. But it is selling very well for them..
I agree it looks sharp and this episode just shows a to be continued with performance. We will definitely see what it’s really about I’m the near future
Hope yall put better Tires on it.
Dang I really want to like this truck but every off-road review is the same story. As soon as one tire gets lifted off the ground the transimission and computer just can't figure out what to do. It just won't transfer enough power the other wheels still on the ground so it just burns the clutches until they over heat and your left stuck hoping it cools off or worse you didn't blow up the clutch pack. I've seen some bad reviews of its towing capability and the transmission having lots of problems there too. At least the ford maverick seems to have its transmission working rather well and I'm now leaning toward that instead.
This is why spacer lifts are mainly for looks. it will ruin your travel.
Absolutely agree..
Bro hit me up when you retest I'd love to see this in person!!
Absolutely
Wow broke it going up a slight dirt hill impressive.
To be fair the lift failed we will have a follow up episode soon
I have a Santa Cruz almost exactly like his. Same color, lift, tires, little different wheels.... So I'm anxious to see what truxxx says and what the fix is.
@@ibuiltmineo1oo Let me know regarding an update! I've been eyeing the lift as well! :O
Definitely not for off Road.
isn't that the dude from trail recon
No I ran into him at a gas station and put his rig to a challenge
The Santa Cruz is for highway driving and snow if that, crappy dual clutch design. And that lift kit sure as hell was not designed for off-road my old Schwinn stingrays front-end was built better than that.
Why can’t anyone review the non dct. The dct is horrible if doing anything off pave ent
Where can we get one here in socal I would love too
@@TrailMilitia it sure. Pretty available in colorado. From what I have heard they are much better than the dct off road
@@billricheter5678 everyone here in Ca either scared to wheel them a bit or just bought them to drive on road unfortunately
@@TrailMilitia they can do some mild offroading. Thanks for your vid
@@TrailMilitiaI’ll let you know when I bring mine from Reno. Just picked it up today, and will be dropping off my Kia Niro off to a friend in LA next week, but should be back out in LA with my SC a few times this summer to hang with my kid. I’m curious what it can do too.
lETS US DESTROY A NEW CAR DAU? IT IS FUN HE HE.
Owner should have removed the end links for this challenge.
Quick disconnects are coming in hot
It’s AWD…not 4WD. Hahaha. That’s just plain dumb
I did my own test lol.
The car is not for rally or off road is a trucklet.
I have to agree minor dirt roads is probably where it should stay
Ya that not a truck.. but it's good to look at different concepts. And builds. This one needs to go back to the drawing board.
My apologies but, I have no trust in HUYNDAI and Kia- nothing but bad experiences dealing with all the recalls. One thing after another with HUYNDAI/Kia...
Shoulda gone sway bar disconnected
Yea but that not something you normally do on vehicles like this but we definitely know now. Owner has fixed and improved his setup as of yesterday
@@TrailMilitia I have a Santa Cruz myself lifted 2 inch ready lift! Do you have this owners ig? Looking for some insight with the end link issue thanks
@@sexteaz let me try finding it
Lmao Wtf
Sway bar delete!
It absolutely would benefit from it
@@TrailMilitia I'm gonna do it to my lifted 2009 hyundai accent hatchback soon.
Lol
I'd take the ford maverick over the Santa Cruz
I would have to agree especially in its Tremor form
Please, it's not a truck! It's a car with a little bed on it. Korean El Camino. Stop doing the crazy crap with it.
good video, but seriously, you do not need to start every episode by screaming 'whats up guys'. It does not make it any 'cooler' or professional.
Dam Dirt Nations videos aren't this wack
Thumbs down for constantly smacking the camera
that's why it's the best lol keep slapping the camera
