Bronco Rack gets wrecked on Papa Smurf Winter Jamboree 2025 Kickoff
On today’s episode we Kickoff Winter Jamboree with a trail that is new to us called Papa Smurf. Papa Smurf is rated an 8 in Sand Hollow which requires some experience behind the wheel and I would say a decently built rig. The group was small and during the week we had the trail to ourselves so kick back and enjoy as we rip through Day 1 and Winter Jamboree…

The 74 Weld Portals are the leaders in the market here in the states and Werewolf Portals are a new player to us but have a solid brand built in Ukrain. The object of this series is to break down what portals are about, if the big price tag really worth it a...

Damn, Marky Mark over here with the Monster Jam session bouncing the truck up that waterfall 😵😲
Sick ass views.... I never get tired of seeing Sand Hollow 🤙🍻🤙
Yep. Both great OR rigs but I would choose the Tacoma because I would want to make it home.
Holy smokes, look at that rig on the right 😂😂😂😂
Did you get a deal or price break on either kit???
After watching both videos I feel that’s a very fair question to ask. Sure seems like they at least got a deal on the werewolf ones.
Great question, I thought I stated it but we paid full boat for the 74 Welds and we were going to buy the Werewolf’s but exchanged some background work and support with building a complete set in exchange. Now to keep it clear we went into this without any script or any sort of regulations about what we can say or do. Big reason why even though only one was cash we paid for both theoretically. This whole process is to really shine light on 2 things the best kit and if portals are even worth the squeeze. We will be learning as the process continues just like you everything is documented and transparent.
Did you guys end up getting the ABS light taken care of? Seems like a pretty big con. RTV shouldn't affect a magnetic sensor...
@@RonJacobsen1973 yes we did it was an install error on our end we fixed it and will show you the fix on the next episode
Did you watch the video that 74Weld made about materials and why they use what they do? They said Loren Healy rolled a bronco off a trailer at 70mph…vehicle was completely destroyed and the portals were pulled from that vehicle and bolted right on to another Bronco. Doesn’t seem like they need the brace
Yeah I did see that and I actually wheel and talk to Healy from time to time regarding the brace that one incident wont cover the constant pounding over time. Bracing doesn’t necessarily mean they will break or anything significant will happen but they will leak and cause issues. Right now to be fair its all hear say till we go out and find out… because they may be right it might not be needed.
We are listening…😉 and appreciate the feedback
If you ever get something damaged in shipment like a bent stud just contact us. We would happily send you a replacement free of charge. It seems like you didn’t get vent hose. That should have been in the kit and if not that is totally our mistake. A phone call and we would have had you hose the next day.
Thank you and we appreciate the response I will send over an email with some info on replacement rubber O rings and the few items missing.
this dude cracks me up lol awesome
Jeep owner here and I have one word: BADASS
Thanks for commenting on the tibus ones. I was going to ask. Great videos
Thank you for watching so much more to come.
Excellent video, cant wait to see the offroading!
We cant wait to drive them either
What lift do you have installed to get to 16 inches prior to the portals?
I have Radflo Coilovers with a triangulated Rock Krawler kit. I believe we were set to around 3 1/2 inch lift and 38s
You guys looking for another hand? I can’t find a job so I’m looking anywhere I can
You guys looking for another hand? I can’t find a job so I’m looking anywhere I can
They are cool for trying to fit 40s but they can never replace good suspension. They offer clearance but not better ride quality or support if carrying heavy gear.
This is something we continue to test and figure out. We also do think a good set of coilovers with proper spring rates is a must but the gearing will definitely help with carrying extra gear.
Great info on both kits appreciate the hard work that went into showing us exactly what’s needed . Can’t wait to see how they perform on the trail. Good luck y’all
Thank you for watching. More to come
Another great vid!! Dang.. having to disassemble the box completely to swap your CV on the trail is a HUGE CON! That's gonna suck big time.
You never talk about how much less the 74weld portal weigh
I recently got the weight although I do not believe it matters significantly. Fronts 74 are 70LBs and Wolfs are 110LBs the rears are pretty close. It’s not rotational although we do believe it might cause some adjustment of spring rates and things of that nature our BRO science till we go out and test a little more seems like the extra weight should help settle the front a bit.
Love the garage work. Like real men and I'm sure there is a lot of edited shenanigans going on that makes this fun, even tho tedious. Good content!
Thank you so much and honestly thats part of the process building community with the BOYS
Did you guys see the murder going on behind you at 36:29? 🐦
murder of crows haha. I got it
Great videos since a big big chunk of people with portals just paid a shop to do it and you guys are “the people showing the people” how to tackle this project. Keep up the good work cabrones! Nos vemos en KOH 🤙🏻
Appreciate you!! POWER to the PEOPLE
Looks so much better, great vid.
VBery nice. Great vids showing the difference between 74 and Werewolf. Looking forward to seeing the beat down vids.
This is an awesome video 👌
Warewolf is king easy if they are able to start having parts in the states more available. Rob may have to get a call 😅
King? Absolutely not. A great option for the home gamer yes but not king. That title is reserved for the products sitting on the podium at the end of the year.
@ do you have experience with these portals? And yes we’ll see so far warewolf is winning.
@JakeWashatka i'm not an engineer, and I don't own a set of either brand. The race team engineers are choosing to go with 74Weld boxes for many reasons other than cost, lift and width. Those trucks are sitting on the podium
Lets be fair here those 74 Weld boxes on the Race Trucks are significantly different although I must agree Werewolf’s are not King here in the states by far.
Such great info! Thanks guys! Love that you’re doing this.

Are portal axles a lot of maintenance? Do they run at high speeds?
@@DanP100 I just dropped a video explaining this. You can run them at high speed 🤟🏽
@TrailMilitia cool. I'll check it out. Thanks!
I have a set of 74 weld 2 gear portals, an upgrade to the unimog 404 stuff. Some real quality stuff but an absolute nightmare to work with the company. Zero directions, missing parts, ghosted me many times. Hope your luck is better than mine.
@@chriscorpus1 damn that sucks
Can you give me the model number for the bumper in the badlands? Thank you
Westin - Pro Mod High Clearance is the name
Looking great 🤠🐶🐕
No clanging and banging filming on the bearing race? What’s an install without that? Its the best part 😅 😂
@@george_bwrenching2983 came out easy this time
@ I’m just messing with you. Great video. Esta chingona bro.
That’s why you go with the Tibus portals. They include everything that is required
@@Shawn-d5n we have those as well and not having uprights I would never go with them and the 3 gear setup over these 2 in my opinion
Top because it’s available for purchase 😅
Was the bottle of Crown on the list of required parts?
@@EdJZatta it comes standard on installs around here
Great video hermanos! I need to hit some of the trails with you guys #PORTALGANG 🤘
Yeah bleeding the brakes was the hardest part of the install. DO NOT buy the stage three rack, it's a total waste of money, and I'm glad you got the updated caliper brackets. Hopefully your brake caliper doesn't fall off and punch a hole through your wheel leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere Nevada.
@@scleco93 I plan on going Hoss 3ohhh but I heard about your mishap that sucks bad. Why wasn’t this out more everyone thinks 74 are perfect
@trailmilitia please feature any wire/line rerouting or upgrades reinforcement you do. Thanks
@@callsign.iceman7913 absolutely I tore one on the way to Vegas just now
Nice. Good video on the install. Keeping it real is always good. Now lets see how they wheel!
Belly tuck for phone. lol I do same thing lol
Cool video, Appreciate the Truth! Keep the Vids Up!
You guys in the business and you haven't talked to anyone about portal thoughts or install? Then again the 20 grand should have covered more but your paying for that machined work they did.
@@Sevencastle we know basics obviously but with this being the first set we own you can only read so much or hear so much before you gotta pay the piper and deal with a set yourself.
@@TrailMilitia Forgot to mention damn that Bronco looks BA the stance it's a different beast now, please do a video driving around the streets or a cruise
Very interesting
I thought i was watching a portal install video? Next thing I know, I see a bottle of crown and yall are talking about getting hose. 😂 Nah, but amazing video. Thank yall for taking the time to make this. Well done!
@@ekwebsta you weren’t supposed to catch that bottle lol #easteregg
I really appreciate you guys doing this. It’s great feedback for the companies and will improve everyone’s experience going forward. Great stuff!
Thanks for doing this, dudes! Excited to see how it goes and learn along with ya.
@@pandapaul second episode out now !! Thanks for watching
Thanks for the info, Brother. We will be out there this year.
Awesome man! See you out there.
I’ve run this trail about 5 times. Never seen water on it like this. Pretty cool. Bet it adds to the challenge.
It was a little trickier for sure but so much more beautiful
