I really like the television camera controller one. It's really creepy how you can explore something that was never meant to be seen. It also makes you really think about what it's all supposed to mean. When the researchers enter the horror show from sandman why is it that all the characters know exactly where the camera is? How are they aware of the 4th wall and why do they appear to be lifeless. You could brush it off as it's just a little glitchy... but the thing is that has never happened before. See each tv show that the researchers go in have an established canon that is defined by the universe preceding it. Like the soprano show defines the tv show "sandman" and when we enter it, that show defines a popular sitcom "caroline caroline" and when we enter that it defines a creepy movie titled snakebite.. The thing is, originally Sopranos defines everything. So somehow the civilization in Sopranos created a show who's population likes watching a show with nobody in it except for snakebite... pretty creepy to me. It's like by going down this rabbit hole we're revealing the inconsistencies in Sopranos. These tiny elements in the show reflect how the characters are slightly "inhuman". You could also argue that by my logic that since we created sopranos then we aren't "human" either. The reason why that's not true is because each civilization attempts to represent its own civilization through media, but they aren't completely accurate. That means that each layer is a slightly less accurate version of the last civilization, but they still reflect the previous civilization's ideals. So the people in Sopranos represent us, but they aren't us if that makes sense. They aren't human and their media shows that. TLDR: the layers of shows inside of shows reveals that the civilization in Sopranos isn't human and is something darker.
have you ever held one mirror up to another so that they reflect back and forth, and it looks like a tunnel that gets dimmer and dimmer the further you go? the light is only bouncing back and forth on the first two real mirrors, and each time a little light scatters away. this is that, but in pataphysics. the deeper you go, the more fidelity is lost.

@@benfawefwaeffwaefawfdekk2080 I think it should've been a -J. Having an official SCP like this kinda ruins the spirit of what the Foundation is, for me at least. But oh well.
I think a story which kinda puts this into a more comprehensive and not cosmic view is the Truman show. The idea that you are just a character in a story is somewhat frightening. What if you’re a side character doomed to die to move the story along? That shit is scary to think about
Another good example is the Korean webtoon "Found by Chance", and the drama based on it, "Extraordinary You", in which the series' main character discovers that not only is she merely a side-character in a comic book, but she's engaged to someone who hates her, and she's going to die soon of a heart condition anyway. Naturally, she then engages in a plot to try and re-write her own destiny...
So, if Physics are the rules that govern the World, Metaphysics are things that govern thode rules, gods and the such. If that's the case, the Pataphysics govern the supreme rulers of the world. The writers, who think billions of gods into existance in moments.
Here's a concept that acquires fascinating meaning when applied to Pataphysics: "All is one. One is all. As Above, so below." The S.C.P. Universe is Our universe, and the SCP Wiki is a self-replicating red herring swarm, where truth can be hidden in plain sight. Which ones are real? How's that for
I _think_ Robert Heinlein may have invented pataphysics. In his book, The Number of the Beast, he proposed the idea of _reality as a myth,_ in which every reality in a giant (but finite) multiverse is the product of a fiction author in another reality. There is no hierarchy, no Hume levels, or their equivalent, just a uniform set of equally fictitious and equally real realities.
Its ether that or he is the den at the omniversity giving lectures on the subject "The topology of the ontological landscape and the ecology of the metasphere"
Given how She-Hulk did it with greater effect, actually walking over the gutters and using panel transitions to try on different clothes, I'd say she had at least a Masters Degree if not a Ph.D. Granted this was back a ways, so I'd say she lost her job at the omniversity.
I've been waiting for so long for someone to tackle pataphysics. I find it to be a really underrated tag, since I never see anyone directly talk about it. They're honestly my favorite kind of SCPs, other than 050 and 579... the way they deal with the idea of a narrative and its relation to our reality and the Foundation's is something that's always intrigued me, and they way that 2747 turns out to be an instance of itself is probably the most brilliant twist ive ever seen on the site. ... i think there's one video on 2747 somewhere, but it's in Japanese. Thank you very much for posting this video!
I have very mixed feelings about 'pataphysics concept in SCPverse. First, the name itself is incorrect - 'pataphysics is just pseudoscience meant as parody of scientific method and discussion, mostly based on self-excluding concepts. More apt name would be "narrative engineering" or something like that. Second point is that 'pataphysics skips and tales tend to be overcomplicated and too fancy, often without any logic or justification behind them. It just is this way and point. However, some are really well made. Personally, I prefer Antimemetics Division hub and SCPs than 'Pataphysics.
@@glassesmanclefdraski7999 Ir is, there’s probably some similarities in the logic given how dumb you have to be to think parodying science is the move, but in the SCP universe it just expands dimensionality to include perceptual ones where we can render reality in our universe while they use no actual matter relative to us. If they structured pataphysics more, to make layering narrative either harder or traveling and manifestation within them much much harder, it would be like simulation theory, a maybe in terms of real life but still not something we can ever actually know for sure
I would just like to point out that according to one SCP every single end of the world class scenario should be accompanied by an angry Garfield made of lasagna beating the shit out of whatever’s causing the end of the world, since that would mean people aren’t consuming Garfield media anymore.
The thought of the Garfield SCP beating the tar out of Foundation personnel in SCP-5000, or absolutely wrangling the SCP from The Stars Do Not Wait For You is utterly ridiculous, and I can’t help but love it.
Reminds me of a concept I thought of years ago. Imagine a _perfect_ simulation of our universe, which runs sequentially from the very beginning, but much faster than real time, so that it eventually catches up to the current time. In that universe, the same simulation must be created, inevitably. This leads to an infinitely nested simulated realities, all running on one computer. Every computer has a limit to how much it can process at once before it crashes. In other words, the simulation must crash at some point, and because each universe is running faster than the one above it, that deadline comes exponentially closer. But how do we know we're at the top? How do we know we won't be wiped out too, when it crashes? And if our being wiped out is wrong, then can we morally shut down our computer, killing all those universes too? Also, remember, the universe below is faster than us. Its actions are a perfect predictor of ours. So if _we_ stop the simulation, and _we_ aren't the top layer, that means it's only a matter of time before the ones above us do the same. And, mathematically, the probability that we are a specific one thing among an infinite collection is...0.
I can't remember the name of it, but there is a short story that has a concept like this. A group of scientists create a computer that perfectly simulates our reality, and play it up to the present. The scientists discover themselves building the computer in this simulation and then watching its computer simulate their reality perfectly. They then have to grapple with the realisation that there is a massively greater chance that they are not at the top of the simulation pile, and that whatever they do to the simulation will cascade down the realities. Also, don't turn the simulation off.

Pataphysical, as a whole, sounds like cosmic awareness or cosmic/reality affectation. It sounds an awful lot like the scientific gobbledygook that is "Breaking the fourth wall", or "Blurring the lines of fiction and reality" Addendum: This is similiar to how Comic books, TV shows, and other forms of media use meta humor, or develop awareness of their fictitious existence, can have a plethora of affects on.....well, everything. It's almost enough to give real life people an existential crisis like some of the characters in media. Which, to myself at least, is astounding and delicious. I've always been curious about scenarios like this. Side note: SCP-3166 is one of my favorite Pataphysical Anomalies. Very Gross, but still one of my favorites.
16:48 holy shit that scared the fuck outta me. I'm a bit buzzed and looked away for a few seconds and came back to that fullscreen. F in the chat for my heartrate.
The diference is that "breaking the fourth wall" is just taking jabs at the story being ficticious or things like that, usually in a humorous manner, but the SCP foundation takes this instances dead seriously and tries to analize them in as much of a scientific manner as they can posibly can, which diferentiates "pataphysics" from something like deadpool just telling jokes for example
@@glassesmanclefdraski7999 nothing wrong with the foundation for doing what they did in SCP 5000. I love me some pataphysics, and I'm glad you finally did a video covering it. I'm slightly disappointed you didn't talk about 5309 tho. Its a surprisingly unique take when it comes to pataphysics, as it addresses how the readers and their headcanon effect lower realities. I wish more articles focused on that, as almost all of them tend to focus more on how authors effect the lower realities, or examples of lower characters somehow effecting a higher reality
This explains SCP 3812 better, as the SCP itself becomes pataphysical and begins "ascending". After all, it's explained that "higher" beings view our world as one would watch a show or, in the context of the SCP, a conic book
Pataphysics basically just sounds like fiction crossing into reality, with the two capable of messing with each other. This can also apply to Canons where the foundation universe becomes aware of it's own fictional existence, and both our reality and their reality are capable of messing with each other to a certain extent. It's basically the same definition whichever way you look at it. I personally am very conflicted with the concept with Pataphysics. Specifically when it gets overlay meta, with the foundation acknowledging their fictional existence. But in in-universe cases such as SCP-3166 (Garfield), I'm more preferring of those. Also, I like the Garfield SCP in general, it's definitely unique.

Outstanding art work of these worlds . A mix and match type of scenarios . With people in the foreground and mechanized objects in the background whether or not they work , left standing there from some forgotten past . Love It .
One of my favorite pataphysical anomalies, or set of anomalies, is the S&C Plastics or Sloth’s Pit hub. Lots of nice spooky scary narrative manipulation.
So basically, pataphysics is like how Deadpool knows he's a Marvel comic/cartoon/movie/video game character and breaks the 4th wall all the time to talk to the reader/audience/gamer. Got it.
Why does it feel like 2747’s destroyed narratives are referencing/inspired by actual stories? Are they inspired by other media and web series or something else cause that’s what it feels like.
That's to give the SCP an extra layer of depth. By making the destroyed narratives resemble pieces of fiction irl, it is subtly implied that the SCP has manifested itself already in our dimension, and all of us could be annihilated any second. Hell, the very fact that the SCP universe refers to something that doesn't actually exist implies that it was SCP 2747 that destroyed the Foundation. Very clever piece of writing

Excellent video as usual, but it's a video dedicated to SCP pataphysics and there was no mention of the skips and stories of the S&C Plastics canon? Sloth's Pit, Wisconsin is like pataphysics central. In fact, ihp's 001 proposal was basically a modified version of S. Andrew Swann's proposal (which is my favorite). Wanna see me describe Anafabula? An old story, forgotten by many. One shard of the god of flesh, two thousand automata serving MEKHANE, the guardians who stave off the third Hytoth, they who were gathered by the four gospels, the eyes who watch the stars die in fives, and the six-fingered serpentine hand, all gathered to seal the king in red robes, away from his brides, to rot alone, forever. His followers disbanded, his children are gone, and yet he laughed, as his seals broke over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. Sure of his return, of his triumph, he proclaimed: "Seven brides, seven spears, seven gates for the Scarlet King!" But the lady of black thorns was clever, and sealed the king in his own tale, the marks of his liberation becoming those of his demise, and so, too late, he realized that the number seven was never his. I feel the need to reassure people that there's nothing for us to fear from the lower layers. There is a man with the power to escape this description of him and manifest in a corporeal form next to whoever reads it, which he will do whenever the description is read. Once out, he will politely call attention to himself, and then return to his description. See, I can't even create something harmless.
As good as some pataphysical SCPs can be, I really wish they had never been created. It set off a chain reaction that can best be described as an escalating meta mess that people keep adding to. It really reminds me of the proliferation of self-insert SCPs in the early days except everyone supports it instead of groaning in frustration.
@@RimTerm that’s why headcannon>whatever dumb thing that winds up being important. For those who don't know, Pataphysics is an actual thing. It's a bizarre quasi-philosophy invented by the French surrealist playwright and novelist, Alfred Jarry, in the early 1900's.
A pathaphisical concept I really like is Grant Morrison's comic book limbo, a place in which all characters creates by DC comics that aren't currently in use reside, what's funny is that whenever limbo features in a story it's structure weakens because it isn't supposed to be represented in side comics

I've had this idea about the layers of fiction. That bit of god emanating man and man emanating art clicked with me in particular. We create create fiction and that world creates fiction and that world creates fiction and it's turtles all the way down. Turtles all the way up too. It would be arrogant to assume we are the level directly below God. If God is infinite then his creation is infinite. We spiral down into the next layer of creation forever, speaking the first words into the void and making light. God then works through us and we reenact genesis. God is everything including all the layers. If we are spiraling then God is the spiral, the golden spiral. That is at least how he takes shape in our universe, the spiral being a ubiquitous shape in nature from galaxies to hurricanes to DNA strands. It's the source like Jack Kirby wrote about. The essence of creation from the cosmic to the artistic and everytime we create we are tapping into the source. Anyways, good video but it needed more Garfield. 7/10

Deep bro
I’m really wondering on what happens after they saw that female figure in that movie and the data was expunged
have you ever held one mirror up to another so that they reflect back and forth, and it looks like a tunnel that gets dimmer and dimmer the further you go? the light is only bouncing back and forth on the first two real mirrors, and each time a little light scatters away.
this is that, but in pataphysics. the deeper you go, the more fidelity is lost.

Pataphysics was Alfred Jarry, pretty sure. Late 1800s, France, as a joke about Metaphysics.

@@baltofarlander2618 I've always thought that the Pataphysics in SCP was different from 'pataphysics
@@glassesmanclefdraski7999
Ir is, there’s probably some similarities in the logic given how dumb you have to be to think parodying science is the move, but in the SCP universe it just expands dimensionality to include perceptual ones where we can render reality in our universe while they use no actual matter relative to us.
Bro why don't you post this thought experiment on philosophy stackexchange?
I can't remember the name of it, but there is a short story that has a concept like this. A group of scientists create a computer that perfectly simulates our reality, and play it up to the present. The scientists discover themselves building the computer in this simulation and then watching its computer simulate their reality perfectly. They then have to grapple with the realisation that there is a massively greater chance that they are not at the top of the simulation pile, and that whatever they do to the simulation will cascade down the realities.
Also, don't turn the simulation off.
Well, it’s a 50/50 really.
Either we are one of the simulations and have yet to make our own,
Or we are the first.
@@chr0n0s17 thats like saying its 50/50 that you will find a needle in a hay stack because there are only two possible options, there is far more hey(simulations) then the one needle(the single non simulation)

Pataphysical, as a whole, sounds like cosmic awareness or cosmic/reality affectation. It sounds an awful lot like the scientific gobbledygook that is "Breaking the fourth wall", or "Blurring the lines of fiction and reality"
Addendum: This is similiar to how Comic books, TV shows, and other forms of media use meta humor, or develop awareness of their fictitious existence, can have a plethora of affects on.....well, everything. It's almost enough to give real life people an existential crisis like some of the characters in media. Which, to myself at least, is astounding and delicious.

Its a surprisingly unique take when it comes to pataphysics, as it addresses how the readers and their headcanon effect lower realities. The closest we have is The King Of Limbs

One shard of the god of flesh,
two thousand automata serving MEKHANE,
the guardians who stave off the third Hytoth,
they who were gathered by the four gospels,
the eyes who watch the stars die in fives,
and the six-fingered serpentine hand,
all gathered to seal the king in red robes,
away from his brides, to rot alone, forever.
His followers disbanded, his children are gone,
and yet he laughed, as his seals broke over,
and over,
and over,
and over,
and over,
and over again.
Sure of his return, of his triumph, he proclaimed:
"Seven brides, seven spears, seven gates for the Scarlet King!"
But the lady of black thorns was clever,
and sealed the king in his own tale,
the marks of his liberation becoming those of his demise,
and so, too late, he realized
that the number seven was never his.
