Rest in Peace Paul Reubens 1952-2023.
As a child I was shy, intelligent, and often bullied. Being bullied and playing alone is never fun. The Pee Wee Herman character entertained me. I never stopped laughing. His playhouse felt like a second home, and yes, I bought the old 80’s Playhouse (Recently I acquired a 2nd one in box just bc). Saw all the movies. Paul Reubens finally knows how much his hard work blesses the lives of kids.
“Pee Wee is a legend. Legends never die”.
    Godbless you Sir!!

and as an intelligent, possibly out of the norm type kid, you undoubtably realized that Peewee's unique way of presenting himself was the source of his genius. An affirming message for everybody!

I would've played w you. I was so shy and not confident at all but I loves pee-wee's playhouse and I had the pee-wee doll w the string you pulled on the back and he'd say "I know you are but what am i" " ARRRRRGG" "made you look" "ha ha...hahaha"

@montauk081 Sounds good, buddy. We’ll invent a secret word, I’ll bring my playhouse, but we’ll have to keep a watchful eye on Francis. He might steal our bikes. ;)

@mikelisacarb You’re correct Mike. Both Paul and his alter ego, Pee Wee, combated many obstacles. A too well known example: after the theater incident I remember watching the MTV Video Music Awards. Seeing Paul appear before millions of people, dressed and in character; “Heard any good jokes lately? Oh, so funny I forgot to laugh.” Remembering that moment today? WOW 😮!! He’s a person built of insurmountable courage. Can you imagine having that much courage and faith in yourself, other people, what you created? A person who continued moving forward, doing his absolute best? Happened again following his silent 6 year battle with cancer. So yes, I understood what you meant completely. I appreciate the wisdom 🙏

Of all the Saturday morning kids' shows I watched as a child, this was the best one. I would always have to wait every week to see the next episode(s) and never liked to miss one. I would always be frustrated every time Pee-Wee goes to his scooter, after which each episode ended. When the entire series finally ended, my Saturday mornings were never the same ever since. Pee-Wee Herman has become one of my best role models that taught me how to make good friends and how to live and maintain a good social life. I'm an Englishman who was based in Alaska when Pee-wee was really big. Unfortunately I don't think he had any exposure in the UK....pun not intended. I'm just revisiting after the news of Paul's death. Wow! It's like Mr Rogers on acid....who most people in the UK also aren't familiar with unless they saw the Tom Hanks movie. I think kids today would love his show. It's so zany and fun. He didn't deserve having his reputation tarnished for doing something that so many guys have done without any harm to anyone else. I'm glad that he was able to reprise his role as Pee-wee and make a Netflix movie. I love director Director Guillermo del Toro's tribute to him "one of the patron saints of all misfitted, weird, maladjusted, wonderful, miraculous oddities".

The real reason it ended was because at that point, Paul was exhausted and wanted to branch out to other things. He didn't want his career to be Media One Hit Wonder. Even if he was inappropriate for kids during that time, so what? He didn't create Pee-Wee Herman for kids originally. He created the character as an homage for Baby Boomers who were young adults at that point. The only reason he became a kid's act by default was because that was the market that he was making the most money off of at that point.

I remember one reviewer said of Pee-wee's playhouse that it looked like a bad 1956 Las Vegas hangover. I think that was a pretty good synopsis.

0:45 Not sure why, but I find it hilarious when Pee-wee first briefly appears in the opening scene, laughs, then moves off the screen. Just something funny about that.

Pee Wee’s Playhouse was a huge part of my teenage years. My family and I would watch it constantly, especially on our van’s DVD player driving down to Disney World 2007-2011. When our van was totaled in an accident around 2014, we snuck onto the lot it was being held in to take back our Pee Wee’s Playhouse DVD that was still in the player. RIP Paul Reubens. You always felt like a member of my family.

Playhouse? That's a few acres of secluded desert mountain-view real estate, with a pool. Pee-Wee was a very comfortable millionaire in 1990.

One of the whackiest shows ever produced. Each episode was weird and made absolutely no sense but at the same time, it was perfect & hilarious. I love the opening theme where we go through the jungle with all the claymation animals, then get the exterior shot of Pee Wee’s Playhouse with the surreal music playing. Such art!
