The Making of Machine Head's "Battery" Cover
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2007
- A documentary that I directed, shot, and cut chronicling the recording of Machine Head's cover or Metallica's "Battery" which opened Kerrang's Master of Puppets tribute record as well as appeared on Machine Head's special edition of their album "The Blackening".
most badass cover i have ever heard of a metallica song and this is coming from a true metallica fan
Would love to hear these guys jam Damage Inc.
dave mclain is an awesomely underrated drummer
"And just, pff, fuck dude Its battery it's heavy as fuck"
7:26 Cliff did that with his fkn fingers!
So what?
@@mlody969 It's impressive. That's a two year old comment and I wasn't being derogatory towards Adam Duce. Did you think it was?
This would be my favourite cover id say, they did it justice definatley
Adam is such an underated bassist.
Robb should admit it that he loves the "song that shall remain nameless" - The Toxic Waltz!
Does he say that he hate it??
@@Denmark_1974 Yes.
On the old Machine Head forum, The Frontlines, he would throw a hissy fit about that song.
@@Denmark_1974
If you was on The Frontlines message board, over a period of years he let his feelings known about that song. When the Frontliners voted on songs Machine Head should cover, this song came up and his feelings were there for all to see.
Just in case you didn't know,The Frontlines was a Machine Head forum that was ran independently from the band initially. Then Robb got his paws on it and the fun banter and chat was newtered over time. The board morphed over the years becoming The Frontlines but was shut down by Robb when his leftist beliefs overroad the general middle of the road comments from the majority of the posters. Yeah, there were a few idiots on the left and the right but you get that anywhere but Robb decided to shut down one of the best message boards for the first 20 years of the Internet.
I can't complain too much. Because of that message board I got a chance to meet the band on multiple occaisons. Got to go back stage at the Warfield and chant on the track "Clenching the Fists of Dissent" - look for the credits for Mr and Mrs Swampy in the liner note.
I fucking love this band to Hell and back but I think Robb has become a fucking dick in the last few years... ;)
I think he went on stage with exodus and did that song 😂
@@Swampster70 He's an ignorant, intolerable communist sympathizer. Fabulous musician, moronic when he talks about politics.
I would definitely LOVE to listen to that version of Toxic Waltz!
Love the chimaira shirt and shout out by Rob since both bands are awesome groove metal bands!
This is brutal version of Battery. I like it! Good work Machine Head!
This is truly immense
Love how Lars gets credit here!!!
... And Hetters obviously, but then again everyone knows Hetfield knows how to move his pick downwards rather well.
caliban shirt - cool :D
Love this version. Machine head did an AMAZING job on this song. I wonder how Damage Inc would have turned out.... :D
Robb Flynn's probably one of the best rhythm guitarists around these days, right up there with Hetfield and Mustaine. Those intricate rhythm riffs are pretty fuckin hard to play while singing, he's an accomplished lead guitarist as well (and singer, but that's too obvious). The Blackening's definitely their magnum opus. It'll be hard to top that, that's for damn sure.
Best cover on the Remastered album by far! (In my opinion)
awesome cover Machinehead are kings!
the boys done good .....love this
saw machine head when they opened for slayer and megadeth in vancouver. amazing.
The drummer use a rush t shirt Signals woaw i love this video.
Nice work Shawn.
Yeah I saw em live last year, great night.
Dave has a Signals shirt? Dude, thats fucking awesome!
That was effin' awesome.
bad ass cover..... Great job
right on!
Look at Adam's right hand @ 7:25. Dude's a fucking monster at picking! Godammit...
Remember Cliff Burton. The god of bass guitar. He did it with his fingers.
Machine Head loves Metallica......
great to see mr. flynn wearing a caliban shirt :)
@bonnertom032 He's referring to a covers contest they did for the message board. They recorded Battery, Jizzlobber, and another song, which was Exodus' Toxic Waltz. They didn't want to do it, but a prominent board member (at the time) said he would leave the board if they didn't. They did about 1/2 the song then ended it screaming "Fuck you Tharsh!!!" One note, this cover is not the same they did for the message board, those were done on an 8-track in their studio. This was done at Sharkbite. :)
just watched this thru. great video. btw, during the part where he is talking about john mello, the classical guitar luthier, john mello is my cousin.
@PopInJams if you can travel back in time to 2006 and pick up the issue of Kerrang! It came with then that's a pretty good idea :-P or try and see if someone's selling it on eBay :-)
the end cracks me up
Cool to see Dave give Lars props for his drumming.
I also grew up with Lars.
And respected him.
Yes we ALL know he doesn't have it anymore.
But some of these internet bastards troll Lars and can barely manage the mouse in their hand.
🤔
the deliverance clip at the end!! fucking hilarious!!
Adams wise words: Fuck dude its Battery its heavy hitting as fuck...
Got this on my playlist. Like metallic back then but MH jams it better..
Yup, Hallowed be thy name
"Fuck, dude, it's BATTERY." 'Nuff said.
in the beginning of the video, robb names three covers they recorded - this, a faith no more track, and "one that shall remain nameless". Is that third one supposed to be hallowed be thy name?
i love daves shiny head :D
Some bassists use pick for playing, for example Rex Brown from Pantera and it's very common that bassist use picks in metal. They use them cause it's easier to play faster with a pick and the sound is more powerful and accurate, what's odd with that he uses a pick?
Is there Tom Araya at 1:54. Guy at the backrow behind Kirk looks like him.
I think this version is much better than the original one
what scene is that from the movie at the end???
Dave is a fucking BEAST!
7:00 looooooool. JIM FUCKIN LA MARCA!
DUDE. john mello, the guy who made the classical for the intro, thats my cousin!
Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of this kerrang master of puppets album?
its nice the guitarist has the hetfield mustache \m/!!!!!!!!!!
the wrist game
"And just, pch, fuck dude it's battery it's heavy hitting as fuck" XD.
Dave's long lost brother is John Kramer from Saw.
it's less biting for sure, not as tight and thrashy, I can dig it, but it's really sinister and thunderous like this, y'know?
Phil with a Hetfield Memory Beard
@kix7711therealone thats what i meant. No idea why i put Paul.
Hetfield IS the man!
OMG LOLOLOLOL
THE ENDING WAS SO FUNNY LOL
Dave is one of the best in the world !!!
Awsome song :D
@Jasonk89 Mustaine plays leads also. Megadeth does trade off solos. But yes that is true. Flynn is a great Rhythm guitarist, up there with Hetfield.
2:09 so true.
phil with a mustache, whaaaaaa
dave mclain is a fucking beast, how his legs survive hour and a half long sets every night i will never know, especially when they close with davidian and the like, that's just 5 minutes of double bass haha. possibly he biggest piece of thrash ever
Despite saying Alexi Laiho as Lohai, Rob Flynn and the rest of Machine Head are my fucking heroes.
Their lyrics and music touches my heart so deeply.
It's almost like their songs are written for me LOL
JIM FUCKING LAMARCAAAAA haha. Low End is such a hero..."Jim LaMarca lives with his parents at the cool age of 32..."
Jim Fucking La'Marca! HAHAHA
Ya know how each song from Master of Puppets was covered by a different band?
believe it or not, the bass player actually isn't suppose to play those triplets in the beginning though, i give him props for doing it
dats never phil with the mustach is it?
Its weird i always thought robb played the solo
Anytime bud
@mrshef666 alot of em are. they are the ones that are up the front , such as myself. so maybe there the fans he sees.
ROFL Dave's long lost brother !!! That got me, shit ! HAHAHA
Anyone know when this video was recorded?
yes
TheNutlauncher 8:56
F**** man!!! Machine Head forever!!! I love!!!!
Shawn my dear, I want your job!
Are this guitars classical guitar ?
yes :)
The ending :0)
What tuning
Fuck man !
This song is a killer ..
good point man..but you got to love how they got the fans involved..i voted seek and destroy lol
i think they should do damage inc instead of battery, but...
@shawnfactor also Besides the song message in a bottle - the police
does anyome knows whatbassmodels adam duce uses?
yes
Jizzlobber from Faith no More would be a fuckin KICK ASS COVER from Machinehead
I have to agree man, but that's probably just because i prefer Robb's Voice
Ficou mais raivosa que a original.
Jim fucking Lamarca!!
They definitely didn't do it BETTER than Metallica, but it is a damn good cover version of the greatest Thrash tune ever written.
did they use Drop B on this one or Drop C#?
probably D Standard
They never use D Standard, so I doubt they used it on this one. Sounds pretty much like Drop C# to me, but I dunno
As far as I know they dont tune to the standard 440hz frequency I think its around 428hz then they tune to whatever they want so theyre always slightly off of the usual tuning if you get me
***** ah, thanks man. totally forgot about that
Randy K. He said that they used C#, not drop C#.
Tuning ?
0:41 i thought that was James Hetfeild!?!?!? then i paused and it was phil haha
It's called Deliverance m8
i agree, james sings way better, although his voice isnt so talented as this guy, but i dont know, people just like james' voice, its a pretty ''normal''singing, instead of all these profesioal singers. Great James'!!
Paul Demmel had short hair? Fuck. hahaha
@MetalDeth777 uh phil
Jim Fucking LaMarca !!!! Who is no longer in Chimaira....
Message in a bottle!?
makes the vocals a little more rahhh xD
I wanna know the other song the fans chose, fuck coulda been anything
+peaner083 I think it was Hallowed be Thy Name.
The "song that shall remain nameless" was The Toxic Waltz.
