Josh over at Get Up and Game did Next Evolution campaign as Drax. It was super fun watching if you haven’t seen! Made me think… it would be so cool if you did the same with Valkyrie!!
I agree Hope often makes it easier, but I homebrewed a solution. I’ve just used different allies in her place. How about protecting Mockingbird? Or your signature ally? Or yourself as an ally in a multiversal protection story (since most heroes have an ally version somewhere in the card pool)?
1. Mutant Genesis 2. Sinister Motives 3. NeXt Evolution 4. Rise of Red Skull 5. Mad titans Shadow 6. Galaxies most wanted Honestly, I like the first 5 a TON and the guardians one still gives me 2 or my favorite heros in Groot and Rocket. The value every box gives you is insane, but regardless, NeXt Evolution is so fun and the only things that are even meh are Mister Sinister and Stryfe, and I don't hate either. Great box
Some random comments on this Campaign (from a Multiplayer perspective): The first scenario SHOULD be relatively easy, to ease the players into the campaign so not a big deal. Agreed that Greycrow IS the worst Marauder, you're probably not giving up that 3 cost Support so he hits for 4 +boost which is painful. I finished a 4 player campaign a couple days ago and Juggernaut was the only scenario we lost a hero on. Still won, but the last Villain phase we had many Encounter cards due to decking out, Surge, and a side scheme with the Hazard Icon. Juggy pulled two "Advance" cards in a row popping the main scheme and a hero who went down to recover got KO'ed in Alter-Ego. Also learned an obscure rule from Juggy, it's not an issue in Solo, but your Multiplayer viewers may run into it, the rule for Overkill says that the excess damage over what KO's your ally is applied to "...your identity...". This means you still take Overkill damage even if you're in Alter-Ego, another way a Hero can be KO'ed while in Alter-Ego, be careful. I think Mr. Sinister really likes his superpowers. 😉 Even in multiplayer keeping that first 2A scheme from popping is a chore, you have to play carefully and stay on top of it. I really don't like schemes that increase by 2 per player, basically half the max threat was going on at the start of each Villain phase, but I understand what they were trying to do. Stryfe's scenario was just annoying & aggravating. Having to keep up with the different types of cards in your hand is bad enough, but then when the main scheme hits stage 2 and you're double punished for a +2 hand size, it allows him to hit harder since, more cards in hand, and you pay extra to play those cards. If you add the player campaign card that reduces the cost of 3 cost Event cards, trying to calculate the cost playing your hand becomes a real headache. Then on top of everything else there are too many Encounter cards that are trying to deconstruct your build, so you're trying to get built, having to pay more to get a card out only to have taken away by the next encounter card you pull. The scenario itself was no big deal, we were beating Stryfe down pretty easily but the headaches & annoyances of trying to play cards took a lot of the fun out of it. All in all, enjoyed your video, you raised some good points and, as usual, entertained while doing so. Thank you. 👍
Juggernaut, Mister Sinister and Stryfe are all pretty good, especially Juggernaut. The two new heroes are really fun, for me at least, so this box overall is a big win. As far as campaign goes, Mutant Genesis and Sinister Motives are still my favorites, but this one's definitely up there too. Yes, on standard it's pretty easy, but that means I can finally bring some lower tier heroes as well, so if anything, it's a plus. On standard, I think this is the easiest campaign, on expert, I think Rise of Red Skull is still the easiest, but barely behind this one. Of course this is just my take. Seems like nearly everyone liked this box so we can safely say it's a big win for the fans.
"Easy doesn't mean bad and hard doesn't mean good." Exactly this. I barely touch the Guardians of the Galaxy box villains except for Drang because they're either just way too hard and frustrating, or the mechanics are super lame like Collector and the collection. The excessive difficulty between Nebula and Ronan and the lame mechanics made it the worst box imo. Meanwhile, some of my favourite villains in the game to play consistently are Red Skull, Taskmaster, Crossbones, Magneto, Brotherhood, Ultron, Klaw, Thanos, Hela, Venom, Mysterio, Sinister Six, Mr. Sinister, Juggernaut and Stryfe which I would argue are all mid tier to low high tier difficulty, which is the perfect balance of challenge and fun to me.
I agree about Hope. But I did come around to her since Juggernaut won't scheme out and she represents an auto loss condition. It made me sweat that card a bit to be honest.
Stryfe I am loving. I have played him like 20 or so times with different modulars. I just think he is not frustrating hard and more fun hard. God Loki I haven't went back to lol he is just the worse lol
I suspected it would be neither the best nor the worst. It’s been amusing. I’ll give the box overall a “Finishing School” B. I have thoughts on why, occasionally, it seems punch-drunk but the comments section isn’t the place. I will strongly disagree with you on one point. Long sleeves during an East Coast heat wave is simply not done, sir. Then again, I went to Choate.
Loki is the worst!!!! Yeah Sinister Motives is still my favorite. Then Mutant Genesis. Then probably this one. I am so happy you said it doesn’t have to be hard to be fun! I think the internet voices plus Covid is was caused the GMW debacle.
So there are some inconsistent takes that bother me. You're hesitant to say to play without hope "you could, put you're supposed to". But literally the scenario before you talk about just choosing the villain you fight against. Well, you're supposed to do it randomly. So one scenario you're hesitant to change something, but in another you jumped to changing it almost immediately.
Where would you rank Next Evolution compared to the other boxes?

now this sounds fun with the signatures
1. Mutant Genesis
2. Sinister Motives
3. NeXt Evolution
4. Rise of Red Skull
5. Mad titans Shadow
6. Galaxies most wanted

Don't hit Shadows of the Past with Thor against Juggernaut. You probably won't get rid of Loki!
Stryfe I am loving. I have played him like 20 or so times with different modulars. I just think he is not frustrating hard and more fun hard. God Loki I haven't went back to lol he is just the worse lol
I`m super happy with heros and player cards.
The villains are to easy and I expected them to be more interesting. But overall they are fine.
