I did this several times on Volvos, sold in the US as the 122S. I note that these cars sell for a fair amount of money these days so it might be worth it.
Great to see the process on this! Thanks so much.
No worries buddy it’s so nice to be building it up finally
I don't know how you keep the motivation up after digging so many holes all the time! Great to see the progress 💪
I go and cry in the corner buddy 🤣 thanks mate baby steps but now I want to get some fresh steel in.
Vp autoparts in Sweden has a lot of parts for old Volvos, you might find something you need there. But its expensive. Great work youre doing to that old car, had one 2 door in the same colour from 1968 once.
Hey thanks for watching I will definitely bare that company in mind when I need some more bits for sure thanks for watching stay tuned for more 👍
This is going to be a fantastic project 👍👍
Thanks buddy I hope you enjoy the future videos 👍
Those wings came off but boy didn’t they look like mud and rust dispensers when you wiggled them. Still at least you have removed them and can see the condition of the inner wings. Can’t wait for the next stage.
Yeah they came off nice and easy to be fair but boy I didn’t think the inner wings where as bad as they are. Oh well repair panels are out there so let’s get sorted and rebuild, cheers for watching buddy 💪👍
Watching this just makes me realise how lucky was with my 1970 130 Amazon.I had to patch up a little of the front side panels ,but the rest was fairly sound.
Still had to replace sills and outriggers though and part of the floor.
Most panels are available,as are most parts for these cars,as i'm finding out.
My rebuild is a little further advanced, but it's interesting to see what you're doing with yours.
At least the wings are bolt on so less of a problem.(the front ones).and the whole front section is easy to work on.
Yes I am finding they are a great car to work on and it seems I have got away with mine in various places. It really doesn’t seem to bad at all. Cheers for watching 👍
oh well , at least you know and can fix it, and itll be right. Looking forward to the next episode mate, like the volvo lots.
Yeah I will do my best buddy I can’t wait to drive this thing. Stay tuned for more 👍 how’s the metro?
i ordered a head for the bmw, it didnt come in time, so i had booked a rolling road slot for it in advance. So today with no bmw, i took the metro. it made 57bhp and 53 lbs LOL! its a lot of fun to drive ;)
@@Avtovaz21057 hopefully the bits for the bmw come soon buddy that metro does sound a little Gem. They are a fun little car for sure
(I’m a keen Mini enthusiast too but after you have seen your hundredth mini rebuild you kind of know what’s coming)…This Amazon build has really caught my attention and I think it’s the expectation of what this beautiful car will finish-up looking like that is so exciting! Great choice Marc! 👍
Thanks Phil I appreciate that. We will always have the minis on the channel there is plenty of fun with those to come. But this is a dream of mine so thank you for supporting it 👍
One lucky Amazon to have found its saviour. Knowing how great your skills are, even I'm not phased seeing things like this now Marc. A testament to your talent.
Thanks Darren not going to lie this one makes me nervous but I am sure I will get my beard round it. Appreciate the kind words as ever 👍
Subscribed now to your channel after seeing your first video on this Volvo Amazon. And now watched the 340 rescued as well. I was more of a fan of the 140 series back in the early 70's when my dad bought his first Volvo (144E estate). But before that he nearly bought an Amazon Estate whilst we were on holiday in Plymouth when his Austin A60 estate broke down. I really liked it (aged 11 at the time) but some how we ended up with an Austin Maxi 1500 instead which was a disaster sadly.
Hey Neil thank you for subscribing I am glad you're here for the Volvos as I am so glad to share my passion of these cars now, the 144E sounds so good I do love those. I hope you enjoy the content on the cars we have. cheers
It’s times like these when I truly believe we all have a secret love of rust discovery
Haha yes we definitely do don’t we 🤣
:O im suprised thats stayed together when you were taking it apart. Just think when you start getting fresh metal in there :D Keep em coming man cracking work!
Yeah i was a little shocked lol. Can’t wait to get welding buddy.
You can get almost all sheetmetal panels from VP autoparts in Sweden....and all the other parts too of course....
Thanks 👍
I could actually hear the point your heart sunk when you seen them inner wings . absolutely nothing you haven't done before though you will smash through it . loving the alternate videos between James's mini and the Volvo 👍💪💪💪
Yeah I was a little worse than I thought I in there but hay they make repair panels so let’s get cracking I guess. Glad your enjoying the content moving forward. I plan to bring various cars to you guys 👍
I'm about to deal with the same rust, it's super useful to see what i'm up against. It's amazing how much sheet metal is available for these cars.
Oh that sounds great, all the best with your project. Yes its awesome how many parts can be bought for these old cars. Cheers for watching.
I did the top inner wing repair on my brothers amazon a few years back, was a really good fitting repair panel. the wings look repairable, and if you try to change them, it'll never match the patina its currently got.
Cheers nice to know someone else has done the repair. Hopefully all goes well. The car will be getting repainted anyway. But I want to save them so it has all its original panels still. Well the exterior ones at least.
Man, this one is a rusty one indeed !!!
She isn’t that bad really one of the best in the workshop just look worse due to the paint blisters etc
Oh god that right side inner structure just falling away. I can only imagine what mine is like.
It’s a little worse than I thought aha but all repairable for sure. Just don’t poke her 🤣
@@SimpsonsClassics I get a little stabby when it comes to the crusty bits.
@@DeanofMachines haha you can tell I am the same 🤣
Have you checked out Fitzies Fabrications here mate. You might pick up some tips to fabricate some of those shelves you need.
I haven’t buddy I will go find them later for a watch 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics well worth the look. Very talented guy and happy to share his methods and knowledge
@@patadamson4005 great thanks 👍
Marc, interesting that the thick underseal treatment doesn’t seem to have discouraged rust forming? (Do you think the underseal actually held the water up against the metal?)
Really not sure buddy it’s gone in a odd places I just think this car has been so poorly stored.
Its nothing for you mate, you love a challenge and you did say you want to get to Goodwood next year with it!
Cheers Carl I appreciate that. I would love to have this thing at goodwood next year can’t wait to drive her 👍
The o/s inner wing reminded me of a Cadbury Fake near the front. Do you know why they stored the car with all that mud underneath it?
Haha no unfortunately I don’t all I know is the storage was damp and the car was just parked in 1978 the estate then got sold so I am the second owner.
Wow 1978... I would have been 2yrs old.
@@velmathemini aha mad how long it’s been off the road and such a shame really
I'm having an issue trying to decide whether the mud has been beneficial or detrimental to its preservation 🤷♂
Haha 😂 fair point. I can’t believe how much dirt is stuck under this car. Cheers for watching
Yeah it is a sad fact of life.....Rust is
not a cars best friend nor a man come to think of it , so it looks like
you need two inner & outer wings
as for the bonnet i think it can be
saved it just needs rust cutting out
& a new piece of metal welded in
It's gonna look beauty when done
Mate , gonna be bonsa brah ( cool)
So go chuck a steak on the barbie
with a few beers , cheers from
Down Under 😳😨😱
It definitely is. It’s not a nice thing but I guess when you like old cars it’s something you need to learn to deal with and we love rust on this channel aha. Drivers side outer wing will clean up, passenger one will need some fab work which should be interesting. The inner wings yes all need replacing. That’s the plan some preservation 💪 cheers for watching 👍
You do seem to love yourself a rotten car 😂 even more than I do 😂
Oh yes I live for rust 🤣
