In rain it matters a lot to have tires with some tread left on them. A lot of rain and standing water will also cost more range, so keep that in mind. I once had to take the bus back, because the rain had almost doubled the consumption and I didn't have enough battery left to make it home...
All of them. I live in a place where blue skies often turns into rain or snow in a matter of minutes and I sold my car. I ALLWAYS bring them in to dry after use wet or not.
From riding both Motorcycles and scooters, avoid riding on painted surfaces: lane markers, arrows, safety lines, crosswalks etc. They can be as slippery, if not more, as riding on wet leaves. Decrease lean angle when taking corners. Favor rear brake to avoid slipping out your front wheel.
Thanks for Ramier and Paul! I have ridden many hundreds of miles in the rain on multiple solid tire scooters. I think they are fine if you are an experienced rider. For me it doesn't matter solid or pneumatic because you shouldn't be going very fast around corners regardless of tire choice. I have seen many wipeouts from guys riding hyper scooters in rear wheel drive mode taking corners to quickly. Thinking a pneumatic is going to save you is a false assumption and gives riders a false sense of confidence. In addition, the wet white paint, horribly slick yellow handicap sidewalk ramps, and oil slicks everywhere during rain also negates any additional traction you think you have with pneumatics. The key things to do is understand when your scooter is about to lose traction and keeping your center of gravity as low as possible with bent knees so you can shift your weight better and just be more balanced to begin with. I also think drum brakes are better in the rain as they don't start losing grip like discs. I ride the Mosquito, E-Twow GT, Dualtron Compact, and Inokim Light 2 perfectly fine in the rain. I just sealed up the display.
I ride a Phantom V2, Rain/snow/sun any weather. It has not failed me once. I've been riding since this past spring, and every day for work since I got it. Haven't had a single accident, sometimes it comes down to how you ride, and if you take the right precautions going into it. My thing with rain, is always make sure your brakes are good to go, never want em slipping.

I can vouch the Ninebot Max. Accidentally I fully submerged mine going through a bike tunnel that was flooded. Both tires were below water for 20 feet or so, it's still rocking without any issues. Have just above 3000 miles on it and ride it daily in all kinds of weather.
I’ve ridden the Apollo Explore and have never had any issues in the rain. When I opened my deck, I was surprised to see how clean and well sealed it was.
Segway ninebot max: mostly driven in the slush and snow up here in Canada. Put on snowboard gear and zip ties on the tires and I can scoot to work in blizzards down to -40 in comfort. Only spun leading to a drop once last winter. Gotta be a lil bit careful with the charge port and it makes a mess if you thaw it out under the desk in the office. At home it has a garage. Great all weather rider imo!!
I bought a Ninebot Max in November and I have been very happy with its performance in Portland rain. I have to go slower than normal around turns in the rain, but it is pretty stable at 29kmph when just riding on streets.

I used to own an inokim super 3 back in 2020. I have ridden it in very hard rain and it was still perfect. Keep in mind i clean the dust and grime and finish with wd-40 every weekend
From what I've seen the motor in the wheels is the most in danger of water damage, as the internal motor isn't waterproof sealed, any scooter riding in any rain will be a slow build up of water over time, rust, then failure inside the motor
This is one of the reasons we warn against puddles. If the water depth stays lower than the rim, you’re unlikely to get water inside, because the centripetal force is sending the water the other direction. If the edge of the motor gets submerged then you’re at risk for intrusion into the motor. -Paul
To be fair, just don't ride in the rain. It's miserable and cold and cars will not be able to see you as easily. Especially with the high wind we've been having here in SF the last few weeks, it's probably best to opt for the car this time. Stay safe

Amazing video ! I have a Emove Cruiser and the IPX6 is a bit confusing. On their website they say "can ride in light rain" but the definition of IPX6 says "Can resist high water pressure for any angle". One time, I quickly washed my escooter with low pressure sprayed water, just to remove the dirt, and I got water inflitration on the elecric compartment 😅 Luckily, only the blinker relay got affected. After unplugging the power source, I cleaned everything. and let it dry and now working fine. Before to put back everything together, I took care of placing all the electric wires and parts away for the edges of the deck's cover, and in suspension inside the compartment, and added some extra electric tape on expose parts, so it shouldn't be in contact with water if another water damage. I also add some silicone on both extremities of the deck cover, where there are weak spots for water infiltration.

Thanks ESG crew! I had been waiting for this list ever since posting on the forum about a this very topic. Oh don't forget gloves cuz your fingers can get numb and mess with your "feel" during rainy rides.
The best tip for riding in the rain is never to ride in the rain. Scooter riders must have good visibility of the pavement 100% of the time. Raindrops on a rider's visor or glasses will prevent this ability to see the pavement with acceptable clarity, and that invites falls, which are quite painful. Riding without eye protection is a serious hazard to the eyes. Don't ride when rain is falling!

i have a old high mileage kugoo g-booster and after i used silicone on every possible place where water can get in i can easyly say my scooter is OK for light to medium rain...i rode it even in sub zero temp after 2 days of heavy snow and the streets were soooo wet i thought it will shut itself off after few kilometers...surprise,i rode it for 35km+ and it never showed a fault code or turned off for 1 second..i'm proud of this old boy,but i promise to be easy on it for the future...i had a shut off event on the first wash i did to it,but after 12 hours on intense heating of my room it started and worked like its never been washed with water jet+ a moron like me ahahaah (i tryed to be quick atleast) (aaand after this i decided to silicone atleast the deck and the wire holes)
One other thing, I installed off-road/street hybrid tires to further add safety. Unfortunately, it won't be snowing in NYC this year to test out in those conditions.
Thanks for the tips✌️ I use my dualtron victor. 😵💫 I prepared it with Aquarium Safe Silicone, and it is fine so far 🫣 In the rain I use a soft acceleration and the regen braking for fast and safe stop. Great scooter 💪😏

Hi, since you've had the chance to test ride the KQi3 Max and the Apollo City Pro, which one would you recommend for a good commuter bike that's flatproof tires and good for riding in the rain. They both seem to have those 2 things that's most important to me since i work nights, but as you can see their prices are almost doubled the other. Appreciate your help in advance!! 🙏😊
I had a problem with Emove Cruiser where after it had sat in the rain for an hour I tried to use it and the throttle had a short in it so it would start accelerating out of nowhere while I was just trying to walk it along the sidewalk. Dangerous! I ended up having to power it down and walk home that night. This resolved after it dried out. I just upgraded to the thumb throttle and haven't had that out in wet conditions yet so we'll see if it does any better. I'll also definitely put a bag over the electronics any time I park it in the rain from now on!
no issues so far with my Nami Viper2 Max with the tropical storms here in Australia, have done 30km commutes in full-blown thunderstorms 3 times in the last fortnight, getting hit by lightning was more of a concern than the wet stuff. The flat spot in the throttle does become a bit of an issue in lower speed turns, front does get pretty twitchy. Always towel down my scoot the second i get through the front door, and wait about an hour before charging. Prefer the grip factor of my Chuck Taylors as opposed to workboots in the wet, but the rain isn't too friendly on my Chucks 😬🙄
I still can’t get my head around the gt1 and gt2 only being ip54 when the f and g series ones from Segway are ipx5. I think companies should be aiming at ip55 or better. It would probably boost sales in wetter countries so it’s to their benefit. I see a fair few xiaomi’s riding in rain but it’s always a risk with lower ip.
Very relevant video at the moment, especially in California. I've ridden my KQi Pro in the rain a few times, but not in the rain we're getting now. Impressive numbers on the Apollo! Thanks guys for your research!

hi, in your review for gt2 on the esg website you used this sentence: "The IPX4 water resistance rating, which feels very conservative in comparison, but protects the scooter from light splashes or showers. But with the number of openings on this scooter, we remain a little skeptical about exposing these electric scooters to any form of water." Why is it in top scooters for riding in the rain then? Have you tested it in heavy rain and changed your mind?
I ride my Uscooter/E-TwoW GTS. You know, the ones with solid tires. Because I (and this may be controversial) slow down when it rains - something that everyone should do, even if they have pneumatic tires. But, hey, I think that rain is wet, so who am I to say?
My Segway max G30 have also traction controll and good genuine tyres; after 2500km no problem; I traversed 10 cm water and 4-5 cm mud; it's safe on water but on mud it's not so well because I don't wanna tuch that dirty; safe but not so liked👍😉 And 1 nail without refii the air, excely it have the factory air in
it has a sticker on the deck that says IPX5, but most everything online says no IP rating, and I'm confused if it's different between the 2021 and 2022 model (mine's newer)
Ahh man! Maybe one day, but I have the gen 1. It treated me pretty good in the seattle rain, did your safety tips here slower riding lights and watching for leaves, pot holes and man holes covers
It just doesn't have a horn or turn lights. It has good red lights and flashing orange lights that flash but that's it, doesn't tell people your witch way your turning
Great video and is it some area all scooter manufacturer can be improve on is IP rating or just wet proofing in general! I kinda disagree with not using dual motors in the rain. I get and have experienced the concerns mentioned in the video but in my experience using dual motor in rain and snow or snowy weather is a breaker. I have ridden this winter with my scooter and when the first snow came I tried rear single motor only and I barely moved forward and the rear was sliding like hell also I sometimes got stuck in the snow with rear wheel only spinning. But turned on dual motor and it felt like the snow was gone almost also I think in slippery conditions dual motors give better stability when going straight compared to the rear felt "loose" when going straight in single motor use. For me it gave me what 4x4 gives a car. But yes you have to be careful with throttle input going out of corners but that is just one negative compared to multiple positives, imo. But also I guess depending on you brake pads but in the wet I noticed the brakes was less effective and not just slightly. Tbh I recommend people using dual motors in snowy conditions. I ride a Vsett 10 and even if it's not rated or not high I have managed almost snowstorm, thunderstorms and normal rainy days plenty of times. I know it's not recommended but I haven't had any choice in those situations but it's still going strong and I am surprised it still works seeing all the negative I read before I bought it. The only problem I have encountered so far is rust and rusty bolts. But I will do a service on the scooter like next month or so to replace rusty bolts and such.
I have a hiboy s2 pro with a ip rating of ip54 and im super scared to ride it in any kind of wet weather due to it failing. No idea how people are brave enough to take these in the rain

i have a old high mileage kugoo g-booster and after i used silicone on every possible place where water can get in i can easyly say my scooter is OK for light to medium rain...i rode it even in sub zero temp after 2 days of heavy snow and the streets were soooo wet i thought it will shut itself off after few kilometers...surprise,i rode it for 35km+ and it never showed a fault code or turned off for 1 second..i'm proud of this old boy,but i promise to be easy on it for the future...i had a shut off event on the first wash i did to it,but after 12 hours on intense heating of my room it started and worked like its never been washed with water jet+ a moron like me ahahaah (i tryed to be quick atleast) (aaand after this i decided to silicone atleast the deck and the wire holes)
Very insightful! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
I ride the Kaabo Wolf Warrior GT Pro. It’s just a bit cold in Colorado. My concern is when the rain starts to freeze. 🥶
That stinks! Sorry about that.
This is a great video. Always like see Ramier host.
Thanks so much!
Apollo Phantom V2 with extra black silicone in wire entry holes and a crappy towel in the handlebar bag to wipe it down after a ride.
Very insightful! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
One other thing, I installed off-road/street hybrid tires to further add safety. Unfortunately, it won't be snowing in NYC this year to test out in those conditions.
@@Blackphantom73 Hey.Try it on a thin layer of sandy road at the beach!!🤣😂
I used silicone and liquid electrical tape on my Kqi3 Max and have run it through puddles and 3 different downpours so far, no problems
That’s awesome! Enjoy your scooter. -Vosk
Exactly y I got the inmotion RS.. I need to be able to ride in the pouring rain and not worry about my scooter not working when I'm done
Thanks for the tips✌️
I use my dualtron victor. 😵💫
I prepared it with Aquarium Safe Silicone, and it is fine so far 🫣
In the rain I use a soft acceleration and the regen braking for fast and safe stop.
Great scooter 💪😏
Victor gang 🤙🏾
Good stuff!
I ride the evercross in the rain it's not waterproof but it hasn't failed me yet it need better brakes a louder horn and brighter headlight and taillight other than that it's an awesome scooter
Nice! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
I use my G30 Max even when it snows!
Nice! Enjoy your scooter. -Vosk
Have seen spiky winter tires on a scooter.
thank you this video sir watching from philippines 🇵🇭💖
What a great vid.
Glad you enjoyed it! -Vosk
Apollo city Pro and it ain’t close! City pro is zippier , faster , smoother suspension and dual motors. You can use code RIDERGUIDE for $50 off
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Thanks! I will keep that in mind!
Cool! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
no issues so far with my Nami Viper2 Max with the tropical storms here in Australia, have done 30km commutes in full-blown thunderstorms 3 times in the last fortnight, getting hit by lightning was more of a concern than the wet stuff.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
I have Rohan Wings Pro Max E 10...its safe for the rain?
We have not tried that scooter! -Vosk
Maybe they will change that in the future! -Vosk
I would like to buy the Gotrax GX3 but the rain falls very often and I was wondering if it’s a good idea?
very solid for sure! check it here geni.us/GoTraxGX3
I have an evercross h5. Any opinions especially about "waterproof thing". Thanks
You can seal it with clear silicone in the vulnerable places! -Vosk
I think Apollo is aiming to make the Pro IP66!
That would be interesting for sure! -Vosk
Very relevant video at the moment, especially in California. I've ridden my KQi Pro in the rain a few times, but not in the rain we're getting now. Impressive numbers on the Apollo! Thanks guys for your research!
Glad it was helpful! -Vosk
I don't usually ride in the rain, but my Blade 10D scooter got hit with a sudden downpour for 5 min or so recently. Didn't suffer any water damage so far that I know of.
Cool! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
What about the Nami burn e2 max? I thought it was also good in the rain.
It should have been on the list! Was most likely an oversight
Well, I was considering getting the niu scooter. But, I’m a little worried about the range. Could you tell me how long the niu scooter lasts while going 35 km/h? Thank you!
Which niu scooter ? There are many of them. Which model ?
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide the new one. kqi3 max
😎👍... OK Big Dog I 👀 You. Great Work Cool Video in NYC I tend to ride all Year Round including Snow and Jurassic Rain Downpours on all my scooter I'm pretty rough with them 😂 the only one that almost lost control was my Wolf King. It's not recommended to ride your scooter in the rain and everytime I open a deck I instantly see why some people be having water still inside the Deck corrosion and some rust my front lights usually go out after those rides in the rain but I haven't ever damaged my battery or motor.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by. -Vosk
That's great I'm liking that but I'm really waiting for you guys to test the segway ZT3 pro

I live in NY and purchased Mantis 10 for going to work and back but should i cancel it because i found out its not waterproof ;/
Many other options for sure!
So i did give back the mantis and went with Segway GT1 scooter but the IPX rating is not that high on it so i don't even take it out when it drizzle i just don't wanna risk it @@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
ESG have you seen and will you be reviewing the VIG YRSA electric scooter?? Tim’s electric just did and it’s ip68 for battery and controller and battery removable! Front suspension, dual drum break, handlebar wing light indicators also! Though is solid tyre. 👍🏻
We have not but we will take a look! -Vosk
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide great if u can check out the pure advance when it comes out in march too which is ip65 tho not available in US yet but it has a design like taur but folds in half like an e-bike!
EVERY eScooter manufacturer - "Do NOT use the vehicle in rainy conditions".
Certain MENSA candidates: "Nah, it'll be fine".
My mantra - "If it flies, it can crash; if it floats, it can sink; if it's electrical, it'll kill you - UNLESS YOU'RE CAREFUL".
Lol haha
I wish I had seen this video BEFORE my rain wreck that separated my right arm from my shoulder...
Damn! Stay safe out there.
Thanks for these info. 👍
Our pleasure!
Thanks for the info bro!
Any time!
Since 10 to 12 inch tires would make about 1 lb difference in weight, but a tremendous stability difference, that should start happening.
Hopefully soon!
The higher your centre of gravity the higher the wheels centrifugal force at higher speeds give a mor stable ride. The slower you go the less stable with 12" tires!!!
@@8_x_9. Good point. In a way. I'm kind of thinking you can keep a 27 inch bike up at a mile an hour but not a 8" scooter?
There is an E-Scooter with 12.5" tires, the "Egret X" but it´s pretty expensive for it`s power.
It has amazing hydraulic discbrakes though.

hi,
in your review for gt2 on the esg website you used this sentence:
"The IPX4 water resistance rating, which feels very conservative in comparison, but protects the scooter from light splashes or showers. But with the number of openings on this scooter, we remain a little skeptical about exposing these electric scooters to any form of water."
Why is it in top scooters for riding in the rain then?
Have you tested it in heavy rain and changed your mind?
we do not recommend riding in heavy rain! Light rain should be fine. -Vosk
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide okay thanks!
I ride my Uscooter/E-TwoW GTS. You know, the ones with solid tires. Because I (and this may be controversial) slow down when it rains - something that everyone should do, even if they have pneumatic tires. But, hey, I think that rain is wet, so who am I to say?
Interesting! Stay safe out there. -Vosk
My Segway max G30 have also traction controll and good genuine tyres; after 2500km no problem; I traversed 10 cm water and 4-5 cm mud; it's safe on water but on mud it's not so well because I don't wanna tuch that dirty; safe but not so liked👍😉 And 1 nail without refii the air, excely it have the factory air in
so I have the base model kaabo WWX, is it IPX5? I've tried so hard to find this information but I get mixed answers.
it has a sticker on the deck that says IPX5, but most everything online says no IP rating, and I'm confused if it's different between the 2021 and 2022 model (mine's newer)
Should be okay for light rain!
Great content 🛴
Thanks so much! -Vosk
So rear wheel drive is safer?
That’s usually standard
What do you think of the dualtron ultra 2?
We have not reviewed that scooter! -Vosk
Are the IP Ratings on some e-scooters officially certified or just "self-certified"?
Most are self claimed not official.
kkojang is correct. I’m looking forward to a more certified future for scooters. For now, many are self certified.

Good for a sale pitch.Cheaters...???
can you guys review the Yumi y10? it seems like a reliable scooter, and I would want your advice on it. and my birthday is tomorrow..

How comes the Nami e2 wasn't on the list?
Hopefully on the next list! -Vosk
Thanks
No problem
Hi sir how about the China made its applicable also🤔
Right!
How come the Nami BURN-E 2 MAX is not on the list?
It was an editor choice list!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. -Vosk
It take aprox 2-3 years outdoors before the bolts seize fom rust. A few months after it only surface rust.
@@8_x_9. Ok nice to know then. Thanks. 👍
OG PAUL MA NINJA WAT IT DO

The Segway GT2 is only ipx 4 rated. I'm not sure it's a good choice for the rain...

It’s fine. We chose the GT2 over the BURN-E in this case because Segway deserved cudos for being the first to add active traction control. -Paul
