I love the idea that Connor has memorised how to pronounce this because of the amount of times he's probably been asked to do this in his life the moment people find out he's Welsh.
growing up attending a welsh school. there wasn't a kid by the age of 10 that hadn't memorised the name
I mean... it's in Welsh, so the pronounciation is not a problem for him. The memorizing part comes with a fact that the town name is a list of places to see in it (literally "[The] church of [St.] Mary (Llanfair) [of the] pool (pwll) of the white hazels (gwyn gyll) near to [lit. "over against"] (go ger) the fierce whirlpool (y chwyrn drobwll) [and] the church of [St.] Tysilio (Llantysilio) of the red cave (-ogo[f] goch)".

Let’s be real here: if you are able to fully pronounce the name of that town with 100% accuracy, you should be made an honorary Welsh person

Connor can just mess with us by making the name up, but he didn't. He could become a great reporter with this expertise xD
Why would he though? He's Welsh so it makes sense that he knows how to pronounce it
@@AJGress because it's funny.

@@AJGress Some people can’t even pronounce supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (i don’t know if that’s the correct spelling) in English
@@Veronicz my favorite English word
The best thing about the Welsh is how fun-loving they are about their language. I visited Wales, and in my experience I never met anyone who looked down on me for not being able to pronounce stuff right - and when I made the effort and figured out the "ll" sound and what a "w" signifies, they were so happy about it. I've been around the world, and Wales was honestly one of the friendliest places I've seen. Some of the people were stand-offish, but not in a rude way - they just valued their privacy, but they'd still give the tourist a nod and tip of the hat.
the only bad story I heard about people in Wales was from my dad's school friend who went to uni there and worked part time in a pub, and a group of Welsh teens refused to leave the pub untill he told them to leave in Welsh. but they were teens, and this is Britain. your gonna find teenage assholes everywhere.
It's true but it's worth noting that while we can have fun about language too, it can also be the target of a lot of ridicule. It's nice to have a streamer who says it but there's more to the country than a single town name and more to the language than specific examples of complex words.
As a welsh person the reason for this is because the welsh language is under a LOT of scrutiny
Welsh people were forced to speak English in the 60s (I think, don’t quote me on that year)
And welsh is slowly becoming considered a dying language
Welsh is also only spoken in two countries
I’ve had PLENTY of English people say things like “why even have welsh on street signs when it’s dying out” etc etc
So yeah! People actively learning welsh is a super cool thing to see and always makes me happy!
Just because of this Ima try and learn a bit of welsh. I mean I have time I finished Spanish lmao
@@Atlas_of_interesting good luck! it’s a very fun language to learn :)

Fun fact: that is how the danish language is spoken
Uses a leek instead of a potato to be more welsh

As someone who's learned how to pronounce this town name out of sheer boredom, hats off to the welsh for entertaining me for a good while
your dedication to boredom is incredible
The next time you're bored, you can learn Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.
It's the name of a hill in New Zealand, and about 50% longer than Llanfairpwllgwyngyll's long name.
(in modern Maori spelling: Taumata-whakatangihanga-kōauau-a-Tamatea-pōkai-whenua-ki-tana-tahu)
You’re way more productive than me! When I’m bored I just sleep.
@@raizin4908 maori? As in the natives of New Zealand?

So this is Conner's equivalent to Joey's Skype call sounds

At this point it's like a party trick. Like Joey doing the Skype sound.
*looks up "joey skype sound" in search bar*
Joey has the Skype call sound effect. Connor has the Welsh Town name. Now we just need to find Garnt's weird sound talent.
"Hey, Garnt say the entirety of Fate lore using one breath"
He has Bangkok's full name now :)
As a Welshman, I can wholeheartedly say we learn that just to flex on foreigners
As a welsh woman, I second this
It's weird to me that people are impressed by a native speaker of a language, being able to say a long word or sentence in said language. This village name is just a bunch of descriptive adjectives and nouns stringed together to create a compound name. It's literally as if you were to, in English, name a place something like "TheGreatHoleInTheGroundBetweenTwoRivers".
In fact "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" just means "St. Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio in the red cave".
If you know each individual word, it's not that hard to read them stringed together.
You seem to know much about long names, Thehorriblestoryofamanthatwasforcedtoconnecthisyoutubeaccounttogoogle+
I can't seem to find something resembling "St. Mary" in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
@@mfaizsyahmi It's the "Llanfair" part. "llan" meaning church, and "Fair" being the Mary part. Most languages have their own versions of names. For example Peter, which is Pedro in Spanish, and Piotr in Russian etc. Likewise Fair is what they call a soft mutation of the name Mair, which is the Welsh version of Mary. Although there is no explicit "Saint" in there, I think it's inferred from it being a church.
So, it's not the language that it's the problem here, but the fact that inhabitants of that town all have a horrible naming sense.
You would be surprised at how many English native speaker can't even pronounce their language probably.
Me : *Says the town's name*

Can I just point that this town name has four l's in a god damn row. What is the Welsh language even doing
Double l which is a lateral fricative (mind my linguistic knowledge) or the sound when you try to do a sh while having braces it’s that and the 4 L’s is just ll being doubled so it would be llll
Welsh spelling is word at least there’s a distinction between the th sounds in spelling
Wished English did.
Its best
The way Welsh is written in Latin letters is because they were forced to do it by the English.
It is impressive that Welsh has survived as a language as well as it has, considering how harshly it was supressed over hundreds of years. Signs in Wales will often have both English and Welsh written on them. Almost 30% of the population of Wales speak Welsh, while only 1% of Scots can speak Scottish Gaelic, and about 1.5% of Irish speak Gaeilge daily.
Getting black out drunk with the irish
omfgBlondie Welsh is one thing Irish spelling is another especially Old Irish
I’ve heard how interesting it is (also I’m bit of a linguistics fan and know about the Celtic languages especially with the quirk of Consonant mutant)
I remember when this guy first started his discord when he wasn’t very big. I’ve spoken to him a few times during that time back in early 2016. It was when he still did undertale and black butler cards against humanity. I made many friends through that server. Crazy to think of where he is now. I left the discord eventually because some of his admins at the time went on a power trip and I was annoyed, so I never got to actually witness his growth. Congrats Connor. I’m glad that UA-cam actually worked out for you :)
Conner: enchantment table language
Joey: Monogatari tongue twister and Skype spund
Garnt: looking sad
He should move to that town just so his intro can be “waddup guys, it’s ya boi CDawgVA, comin’ at cha live from(that welsh town)”
Maybe not move there but if he's ever back in the UK and specifically in that town an IRL stream would be so fun just so he can do that intro once lmao
"AND that's a native pronounciation, there you go."
Yeah Connor, because there's no way to pronounce it in any accent EXCEPT the native one
Yeah I don’t think many languages would be able to account for the quadruple L
Mr Osas: finally a worthy opponent, our battle shall be legendary
everytime i hear Llanfair being said, i feel like i should be laying out candles in a circle
The buffering over mouses head when he says that town name lol
I think there's also a lake in New Zealand that has a long name, I've seen the name before, but there is at least a hill called Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.
You can see how happy Connor is that he can finally talk about Wales and people care lmao
Connor: You don't love me, you only want my correct pronunciation of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
This is fun to watch since I've been to that town, the entrance sign when you come into the town is very long
How many times has someone accidentally summoned Hastur by mispronouncing that name?
Go go goh for short.
sounds like a little bit of his soul leaves his body whenever he says that town name
Now this is something that takes effort. You definitely have the attitude for the job haha
Connor: Joey do the thing!!
Everyone else: Connor say the thing!!
Whenever Connor says something Welsh, it activates my competency kink. 😍
Lmao
This is what i like to hear after a day of hard work!
Damn it's crazy seeing the evolution in the set and the boys too
Sorta funny that this is making a small comeback.
I love the sound and the way he's pronouncing this crazy town's name!
Usually this sort of compilation would be over a show or a series of some kind, not someone’s recorded life that they can keep adding to.
He just has that locked and loaded for any given moment
you have to add him saying it on The Yard now
It’s actually an awesome skill to have, a real party trick.
Anyone else reminded of that one FMAB OVA/short/special? Lmaoo
Damn, i have heard people supposedly say it right in other videos but this was on point. (im welsh btw)
Lol I love Mousey's loading symbol at the end
I like your funny words magic man.
I like your funny words, magic man
after seeing the town name a few times, i'm somewhat confident i could pass saying this
He also said it on the yard podcast recently
that's became a perk of him at this point
such an easy thing to say, my chat on twitch forever gets me saying it too, so made a channel point it is easily my most used, i also help people who want to learn how to say it i break it down best way possible
This is like the Into the Spiderverse meme, but he can actually do it on command 😂
I think a demon just got summoned in my room
I find it difficult to o believe that someone smashed their head against a keyboard to come up with that town name since it probably existed before competes were a thing
That looks like someone just smashed the keyboard ngl to you
I really wanna see a welsh only stream SOO BAD and I don’t even know the language
Same and I do speak it xD
I doubt Connor could do it tho, at least not for very long
I love how being able to see the name would've apparently made it easier for her to pronounce
As a welsh person, it’s such a long place name that this is definitely a thing lmao
I also constantly forget the middle section of it (especially seeing as colloquially it’s usually shortened to Llanfair PG)
So while I can usually say it from the top of my head, I do need to see it written down sometimes otherwise I just miss the entire “robwllanty” section
I mean yeah, she's Welsh so the pronunciation isn't the problem, it's just that it's such a long string of words that it's hard to memorize
It's like how I memorized how to spell and pronounce hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
The word was no problem to pronounce at first I just had to be looking at it
Now I know it like the back of my hand lol
You should add the recent one in the podcast
I love that the town name is so long, it cuts it off in the title on mobile.
Oh, so you are British? Say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
0:52 - 1:02
Connor just broke Ironmouse.
I read somewhere that the town renamed itself that as a publicity stunt.
Remind me so much of the Bart meme. “Say the line Connor!”
It's the sweet words he whispers into my ears
Oh yeah, the gogogoch town
Connor say that one town in Wales
Joey do the Skype call sound
Garnt...?
Played this video and every sheep and goat in a 10 mile radius around me immediatly ran away from me
I love that name its so unique xD
Lots of languages have super long compound words or names for places and they're usually not a problem for native speaker.
Like for example I'm a finn and we've got an actual word that's 72 letters long, so almost 20 more than that.
gogogoch in the ending give me a completely different mood about it.........
ok i think the thing that messes me up the most about the town name is the 4 ls in a row
We have Joey with the Hanekawa tongue twister and Connor with…that town. Garnt needs to bring something
everytime connor says the town name, everytime joey does the skype sound and everytime garnt says he worked at the bbc
thats like a party trick
so its like asking joey do to skype call
i oddly respect how quick his brain can tell the difference in that and just straight gibberish in twitch comments
if i hear “gogogoch” at the end, good enough for me
In Mexico there's a place called Parangaricutirimicuaro and though I've forgotten a lot of my Spanish it's still something I can say very easily
Bow before The Welshman.
now add the yard one
As someone from wales I can confirm this is right but his pronunciation is a little off for a couple of them
Joey be like: Connor, do the thing
I remember this when I visited, I just wanted to know why it was named this 😂😂😂
Same energy as Rindfleischettiketierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz
DAMMM... Connor do be flexxin without sweat, im impressed
I think he also said it in the new trash taste episode haha
He can say whatever but adding "gogogo" at the end and I'm going to be like "oh he said it correctly!"
I can't even comprehend the pronunciation let alone memorise it😂
Connor will forever be known for this and you can't stop it xD
I like how some of the letters in the name are pronounced like gibberish
1 minute for Connor saying a name 4 time damn
The longest lake name is in (go figure lol the state with the longest name, I feel we are making up for the size of the state lol) Massachusetts and it is called Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.
and Joey complains that Connor always ask him to do the Skype thing.
its like that bart simpson meme where everyones like "say the thing connor" and he says it depressed and everyone cheers
Imagine having to write that down as your information for stuff like shipping...
