@@TripleDice I preordered it but i think it was limited to preorders. Kinda like Chained Echoes. I missed that preorder and now I can't find a single physical version. Both are on Steam and switch digitally tho.
you're a dangerous reviewer David, your passion is so contagious that i went from not knowing a thing about this game to ''OMG can't wait to buy and play it''
I agree with that statement, David's positive energy just puts me right on the hype train for anything he is excited about. But that is also why I love this channel 😊
it looked so insanely generic I never understood the comparisons to games like SoM but I'm glad it's apparently turned out good but there's already an awesome modern day 3d SoM called Trials of Mana :)

Memories of searching for The Secret of Mana just flood in. My parents searched everywhere and couldn't find a copy, and later that week, we are in Sears so my father could grab some tools. I check the electronics kiosk and find a copy of Mana, paid the 80 bucks, and let it quickly become one of my favorite rpgs of the SNES era. I was a huge Square fanatic and up until the current generation have bought nearly every title that has released on release day. I still have my FF7 prerelease t-shirt. I miss Sears. Such an odd and great department store.
This is the first time I have crossed paths with your channel. Instant subscriber! ❤❤❤❤ I bought the game and have been checking reviews. Most are middling, ranging between 7-8. Your review made me excited to open this beautiful box up. It has so much by way of collectibles! I love Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Trials of Mana… I even loved the PS4 remake of Secret of Mana. There is a simplicity in games like these that is missing in games today. It is a welcome throwback. I got Secret of Mana in 1993 and played until I beat it. It has remained one of my all time favorite titles to this day. Trinity Trigger looks to give me that same warm fuzzy feeling all over again. I cannot wait to dive deep into this old-school action RPG. I prefer this to Souls and Elder Scrolls. It’s just good old fun with a simple, but fun story. Thank you for your enthusiastic review. I can tell you are an old-schooler like me. It is a far gone era of gaming that I am more than happy to hang on to. Fantastic.
Secret of Mana was pivotal for me, too! I loved that game to death. Still a big fan of the turn-based combat, but there was just something unique and fun about Secret of Mana's combat system, and the music and atmosphere... It brings me back, man! Glad to have Trinity Trigger pre-ordered. Can't wait to play it when it comes in!
My excitement is through the roof! Secret of Mana is such a nostalgic game for me. I never got into modern action RPGs so far, but many of the classic ones are among my all-time favorite games. Add in rewards for obsessive exploration and you might have an absolute gem of a game.
I had big faith in this one given the team behind this, and man oh man, I'm so glad this is what I was hoping it was going to be - I knew it! I'm a huge fan of the original Mana games too (I similarly got Secret of Mana at Christmas when I was younger, and spent my whole Christmas break playing it) - I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow at the store via my preorder - excited this is sounding like a hit, and harkening back to those early Mana days (which were peak of the series imo) - great review as always :).
Also trinity attacks will damage bosses through their shield, so if you get a boss to near dead but then their shield comes back up, you can usually do enough damage with a trinity attack to finish them off.
I cannot wait for tomorrow not only to get this and Fairy Fencer but to see the actual bonus merchandise you get for the Day 1 Edition for the same price as a new game! Been waiting forever for this and was able to play maybe 10 min here and there at Pax East 2023 here in Boston.
I was just like you, I got Secret of Mana around Christmas of '93 too. Loved it and have replayed more times than I can remember.... and now this game is definitely is on my radar now.
My physical copy arrived today, and I nearly squealed like a kid when I saw the game came with a full color physical instruction manual. Love the review and I too am enjoying the game.
I'm so glad you liked this. I saw another review that didn't really enjoy it. Had complaints like "you have to use the weapon wheel to equip weapons" and "the bosses have too much HP." Seemed unneccessarily harsh on a game that's supposed to be a throwback. I'll pick up the Steam version at some point. Thanks for the review as always.
Thank you for your review, David. I saw this game on the Nintendo shop this week and overlooked it. Secret of Mana HAS to be in my top 10 favorite games list, so I will check this out, now that you have compared the two. Without your comments, I would have overlooked this game.
I’m a big fan of SoM as well and I got TT collector edition for Xmas this year. Just popped it in yesterday and at first I wasn’t 100% sure what I thought of it but after about 2 hours I can confidently say this: - the art style in the dialogue scenes and cutscenes is absolutely beautiful. - even as not a huge anime fan, toggling to Japanese voice with English subs, along with the art style, makes this experience feel like watching a great anime story unfold. - Balance. Combat isn’t too difficult in theory but still requires you to pay attention instead of just standing there spamming attacks. Overall this game is probably only going to be about a 7.5/10 for me at the end of the day (it’s still early so this could very well change), BUT! There’s something to be said about a solid game that just manages to be an enjoyable experience without necessarily being something super great. So far so good. I agree with everything you said in this one, David.
I'm picking it up, but the problem is I don't know when I will play it, since where I live it doesn't come out until four days after Tears of the Kingdom.
I live in germany so sadly I have to wait around until somewhere in middle of mai. still its on my list and i can't wait to get it. 2023 seems like an exciting year for games
Is this on the digital ps5 store? All I can do is “add to wishlist” like there isn’t a digital version. And if that’s the case then I’ll be sad cause I only have a digital ps5
I love the paintbrush style environmental textures, haven't seen those around for ages - the last time i saw those were probably large over world zones in World of Warcraft. I'm going to get this game as a huge Secret of Mana and then Trials of Mana Remake fan, thanks for the great review.
I’ve been snatching up all these switch square enix games. I see your bravely default 2 poster. I’ve been referring to this period for square as it’s “silver age”, and this looks to be another gem to grab
I love your reviews David. Honest to the point, and when i want to buy a new game i watch your reviews on it first. Thank you, and i hope you all have a great day! 😄
Hey David did you try the coop? Ive been aching for a game of this style i could play with my bf, but multiplayer in japanese games can be a bit hit or miss 😅
I guess trinity trigger is developed by furyu. How does trinity trigger stack up to alliance alive? It seems more like following the Ys path rather then secret of mana because the mana sprites can grant certain classes magic
@davidvinc Have you beaten Libras? I am honestly a bit dissapointed that all of the "god" bosses are almost the exact same fight. Libras is the only boss I have yet to finish due to how cheap she is, the 2 characters I'm not controlling keep repeatedly running into damage over and over. If you have beaten her, I wouldn't mind some tips.
Glad to hear it is really good. Looking forward to it coming in the mail this week. This looks like a love child of SoM and Ys. As some who puts Secret of Mana in my top 3 games of all time, I can't wait
Just got my copy in the mail, but wont touch it for a while because of my almost complete backlog. Will get it on it by the end of the year or early 2024.

As you go thru the game it might become predictable but the weapons choice made up for it. Highly reccommend if u want to play easy, not too dark and scary rpg, not too challenging. Also you dont need the upgrade DLC, just original is good enough. And i suggest wait for sale, it will be 40% off
I had never heard of this game before a video you posted back in January about it, mentioning how it was a great Day 1 Edition with a bunch of extras for almost no additional cost. Sounded good at the time, so I bought it. Amazon states my copy should arrive on Thursday.
Bit late to the game here. But does anyone know what levelling up actually does in this game? Because the only thing I can see is that it increases Max HP
I've been looking forward to this. Kikuta's old Mana soundtracks have a special place in my heart, so I'll be playing through this one even if just to hear the music alone!
Adding this one to my list! Funny you mention Dark Cloud - I was just saying the other day how I wished they made a follow up to Dark Cloud! (and a Sly Cooper reboot, like they did with Ratchet & Clank, but that’s not as on-genre here 😅)
Oh this is awesome. I was skepticale about the game when I pre-ordered now based on your review, I know that I am totally going to enjoy it. You can't be to careful though with so many attempted phone like ports these days and I am glad this game is not one of those.
This looks excellent; I've really been looking forward to this one ever since you first mentioned it on this channel. The magic thing doesn't even bother me that much, because a few summers ago, I decided to complete a no-magic run of Secret of Mana, just to see what it was like fighting the bosses with actual weapons, and it was a blast. I do have a question, though: does dodging consume stamina, or just attacking?
This looks like a well done secret of mana clone was the first thing I said when I saw the announcement trailer. It’ll be in my backlog for a little bit but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
I was already looking foward to the game so I'm glad to see you like it my friend. But they made one huge mistake IMO. 2023 and no online coop only local play multiplayer. Its a bit of a let down on that side. Its no FF XVI but it looks like a fun time for sure. :D

I will pray that one day someone will release a mod for it. I loved the SoM display numbers of damage and healing. When it was a minimum damage or minimum healing the numbers would show up very diminutive (still readable) and if it was a big damage or big healing, the numbers would appear very big.
