Sometimes you want the next evolution in fine dining. Sometimes you want that casserole your mom made when you were a kid. Both are good for different reasons.
Honestly seeing them side by side makes me appreciate the effort of the Trinity Trigger devs, like others have said, this style doesn't get made often. Personally I have never played Secret of Mana but really enjoyed the Trials of Mana remake. This video makes me want to try them!
I really enjoyed the Trials of Mana remake! That said, I've been thinking of going back to the original that was packed in with the Collection of Mana!
Collection of Mana is one of the best values in RPGs, imo. If you have/want someone to play with you, Collection is way better than either remake, Secret or Trials.
Thanks Britta! I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's definitely something I was ruminating for a while, especially after seeing so many comments and reactions. Figured I needed to reflect on Trinity Trigger a bit more!
Interesting video! Thanks for this.. I really like Trinity Trigger a lot. I think it's a ARPG gem & I hope more people can enjoy it as much as I did. I never got to play the secret of mana remake but I may consider it now!
@@BacklogBattle it does work in the same zone. But I had to push the menu button once. When they are to far away they magically teleport to the main character. Great video by the way 😍❤️
I played the original Secret of Mana last year (I need to go back and finish it, I'm most of the way through xD) and I just fell in love with it. I own the remake, too, I really like what I played of that, too! Needless to say, I fell in love with Trinity Trigger really fast, it absolutely delivers. To anyone watching this who wants to get into classic-style top-down action RPGs: play both! :D
@@BacklogBattle I like what the remake of SoM adds I'm regards to characterization, story and QoL features. I feel like you can't go wrong with either version
I’m really enjoying Trinity Trigger right now. It has an old school feel, with a little modern touch. The voice acting is pretty good as well. The AI isn’t very good & can be a little irritating when your party members intentionally walk through hazards & take damage. Overall a fun experience so far though.
Whoa this is like ARPG overload! I haven’t touched the Secret of Mana remake but I do have the original on my SNES Classic.. I may as well just pick it up at some point having also both Trials of Mana & Adventure of Mana in the collection.. Both of these seem right up my alley.. It’s a shame Secret doesn’t seem to be available on Switch
Secret of Mana has been my favorite game of all time since I first played on SNES in 1993. The PS4 remake, however, was a major disappointment for me. Many of the shortfalls in the PS4 version are captured perfectly in this video from a few years ago: m.ua-cam.com/video/ur78f36rzm0/v-deo.html Playing Trinity Trigger has reminded me of my numerous play-throughs of the original Secret of Mana. TT is not a perfect game, but it also does not feel like a cut rate cash grab in the countless ways the PS4 remaster did. Glad to see many people enjoying their experience with TT.
@@BacklogBattle - I saw that in the Nintendo eShop. It looked like there were dlc weapon packs you could purchase as well as backstory dlc packs for each of the main characters.
I said it before and I will say it again.. most reviewers of the game aren't playing it correctly. The gripes they are having are because of their own playstyle and not utilizing what is offered. 1) the radial dial- yes it pauses the game and interrupts gameplay, at the same time you don't really need that much of items as enemies drop hp orbs and you totally heal at save points that are everywhere! 2) the action meter- you should be killing normal enemies within your 3 hit combo, if your not then 2 things... your not leveled enough and/or you are not exploiting the weapon weaknesses lol 3) as far as AI- the game is designed for YOU to control all 3 characters ( weapon weakness ) and also the characters that you are not controlling actually take less damage from attacks than your controlled character would so again failure on the player. Another aspect reviewers don't mention is you have almost a constant weapon buff when THAT meter is filled alongside an added boost attack when your weapon glows which is every like 30 seconds! lol I have watched some of these vids and people are just mashing and standing in aoes ect and doing nothing but complain as the game is bad when it's THEM that are awful actually playing it. IT'S FUN and anyone interested should not pass up a chance to play it... buy it on sale or if you want the cool collector's box for the price of a normal game don't hesitate as they will be gone before you know it. 😜
I already hate the original Secret of Mana. It's a buggy mess with a messy story and messy gameplay and sometimes even messy music. I'm very excited to try Trinity Trigger though!
Secret of Mana is definitely not what I was expecting when I first played it, but liked it all the same. That said, I do think you'll like Trinity Trigger a lot more!
I really disliked the Secret of Mana remake and I can't say I find what I've seen from Trinity Trigger to be very appealing. I guess the game might just not be for me (which is totally OK of course).
I think that's a very important question to ask! One other question you can ask is, "Am I in the mood to play something like this?" Much like the example I gave with Triangle Strategy at the end, sometimes it's all about the expectations.
This was a really helpful video Alex as both of these are on my wish list. I was scoring myself based on your video and came out 6-4 for Trinity so that’ll be first of the two I get 🫶

Within the weapon wheel, you can press Y or Square (Depending on what system you are on) and hotkey a weapon with the D-Pad. (Trinity Trigger)

Just a quick info Alex in the SOM remake the AI chars also teleport to you when you leave them to far behind. So that‘s a thing too in SOM remake!
That's strange! I've only seen them pop to my location when I actually change zones, but not within them!

Trinity Trigger is the better game by far
I now understand with Mana Remake. Other people were comparing Trinity to the 2-D Mana, which made no sense to me

Okay then how does Trinity Trigger compare to like Oninaki
If there's one developer that I personally have an intense bias against, it'd have to be Tokyo RPG Factory lol

I did hear that there's backstory DLC for Trinity Trigger for $5 each that's available. I do wonder how others are reacting to that.
@@BacklogBattle - I saw that in the Nintendo eShop. It looked like there were dlc weapon packs you could purchase as well as backstory dlc packs for each of the main characters.
I'm really enjoying Trinity Trigger for its simplicity. I feel like it's a game that would benefit from rumble, weird that it doesn't have any.

I kind of still like mana better, but trinity is pretty solid if just a little too easy/short, if they make a sequel it has potential to be incredible
