I have been restoring dolls' hair for about 2 years. I put the conditioner on it and let it set overnight, then detangle with wide tooth comb. Then i rinse conditioner out. After that, I roller set with perm rods and let it set til it dry. After I take rollers out, the hair looks and feels so soft with beautiful curls.
I have the hardest time getting curls to set.I have been wanting to restore my childhood 90s Samantha's hair. Love this restoration video. I would love to see more of these.
My Samantha just turned 30. I got her when I was 5. I have been worried and dreading working on her. Feeling more confident after seeing this video. Her hair isn't knotted but feels VERY dry. Her body is in good shape but limbs need tightening and skin scrubbed. LOVED this video! Thank you!!
i’ve been looking into restoring my sisters’ childhood dolls (that i often got to play with, as a boy who wasn’t allowed to have dolls). incredibly useful!!
I ordered a used Kirsten doll for myself... Ive never had an AG doll, its a real treat for myself. She's going to need some TLC when she comes, and this video was so helpful for what I'm getting in to! I feel like a kid waiting for her to come in the mail!
I loved this video - how lovingly and thorough you patiently work on her, it’s incredibly satisfying to watch and i love your vibe. This video inspired me to do the same
Thank you so much Jonathan. This was super helpful. I have an old PC Samantha who needs this treatment. I will give it a try now thanks to your great tips! 😄
Fantastic job, Jonathan! This video has inspired me/convinced me to restore the curls on my white body Samantha... luckily, her bangs are still great, but the curls could use some work. THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL!
Awesome Job I Have an old Shirley Temple Doll I Looked For Many Years For My Ma (Grandma mommas mom) even after She Passed away I Kept looking for it The hair is off but planning on Restoring her as Much as Possible without messing her up. I also bought another doll in same bundle from when our Momma was real little. I Have Repaired cleaned up 1 of My old dolls from the year my youngest Brother was born & I used Dish liquid for hair & Very very little Peroxide & Alcohol on Cloth of Clothing to get Stains out
I agree with you about using products on plastic or saran nylon ect hair. Hot water and dish soap is fine and heat. Heat is what really helps. I really like your videos thank you for sharing so much info
I've been waiting for this video! I got my Samantha's hair cleaned up and straightened, but need to get it in the updo and curled. This is so helpful! I even took her to the AG store doll salon and they didn't make it look acceptable to me. I will have to do it myself to do it right.
Just got a second hand doll (I think she used to be Sage 😂) off eBay for $15 dollars because her hair was matted. The seller said her hair was unfixable, but I think otherwise! I’m weirdly excited to work on her, and this video only gave me more encouragement, glad I’m not the only one that enjoys this process😅❤️
She looks beautiful! You did a great job. 😄 Thank you for showing us the process and for making the world a better place. 😉 I have a doll wig that I feel more confident working on now.
So inspiring!! My childhood '88 Sam has a new wig because her original is a hot mess. But of course I kept it with the hopes that one day I could restore it. She needs hella wefts added, so if you have a tutorial for that in the works, I'd be thru the roof excited!
I've never seen a white body restoring before And Samantha looks amazing. When I curl my Samantha's in curlers I just go crazy with the curlers and leave it in for a few days and take them out and she looks Brand new straight out of the box.
i know you say you dont want to spend much on dolls, but conditioner ( or fabric softener ) does really work wonders on synthetic hair ! it makes tangles a blessing to work through, as dish soap mostly works more like a shampoo ( not to mention conditioner does give the hair a pretty shine ^_^ )
STUNNING! Now I need to go rehab my daughter's kristen and samantha dolls! Hers are luckily not as bad so hopefully it won't take me 8 hrs on each one.
Wow you give lovely advice, I just bought an early 90’s pleasant company Samantha in very good condition hair wise! I will be using these tips while I work on restoring her, I am a nail technician so hopefully my delicate articulation with nails helps also 😂 Edit; I bought the clear dish soap, some magic erasers and now I am just patiently awaiting her arrival while I get ready for this restore!
I love restoring doll hair i got a hasbro Aimee doll from 1972 her wig was just a frizz ball it looked like a ball of hair i spent 8 hours on it strange by strange unpicking combing dipping in fabric conditioner 5 or 6 times them combing out with a wide tooth comb then hot water treatment and finally human hair straighteners the wig looks sensational a lot of effort but i saved the wig and i must say for a 1972 wig from hasbro the qaulity was and is amazing .. it took very high heat ..
I absolutely loved this restoration video. Wow 8 hours total work congratulations, but then you are by now a real pro. I agree nothing beats the original wig. I have two PC Samantha, tanbodied I don't have that kind of cash for whitebodied, and one by some miracle had her elastic and mini ponytail still. You bet I cut that elastic real quick and replaced it. All I needed on #2 was water and a bit of heat to make it beautiful, I admit #1 took more time and work, wish I had your example, though I did similar. I am dead against the fabric softener method, it does leave a minute residue on the hair even after washing out thouroughly, multiple times, and there is no saying what that might do to the hair fiber itself on a chemical or microbiological level. And as my comment shows I did try it. Unlike some cheaper dolls with cheaper hair fibers where it might be of help as a play line doll, I don't see the benefit at all with PC/AG dolls. I have only had two dolls where I couldn't rescue the wig, one was a AG Mia it literally was disintegrating before my eyes, and my first PC doll, an early tanbodied Kirsten with bubble eye and the softest eyelashes. Her wig is literally straw and breaking when you look at it. It looked like your Samantha hair but worse. With days of gentle work it still was a disaster, I bagged it up to save. I never throw out a wig, except Mia because it was only a wig cap with a few sparce hairs and even the wig cap was coming apart. I did find a replacement wig for Mia. PC Kirsten I decided with all her other issues(fading vinyl color, no facepaint, blackened toes and fingers(as in colorless vinyl) to customize into a cousin for my 2024 Reproduction Kirsten I just got. I will be just putting back the original face up like my new Kirsten has.
I love this video--please do more restoration videos! Also, do you put the flat iron on the lowest setting--in the 200 degree range? or hotter in the 300 degree range? Thanks.
Hey! I know your first love is AG. Would you be open to covering fashion dolls as well? Occasionally I mean. I would like to see but understand if you prefer to focus on your fave
I actually do want to do that soon! All of my Barbies are still packed away so I've been out of the loop with fashion dolls lately, but I do wanna get back into them!
27:12 Her hunchback posture in the before really took me out. I have a 2008 GoT/JLY #3 I thrifted at Goodwill, and I’m just glad her hair wasn’t as bad as this Samantha.
Dish soap is gentle enough for puppies and kittens but tough on fleas and other bugs so ya, I can see why you’d use it for doll hair. No sarcasm in case that seemed sarcastic lol. Also it’s Christmas day and I am sitting out the second half of family activities to not have an autistic meltdown and this is very therapeutic to watch.
Good video but you should have done more research rinse all the soap out of the dolls hair then applied a type of conditioner the way you would treat a synthetic wig, easier to detangle and would have been less time consuming,
i've been so scared to try and fix my pleasant company mollys hair.. im gonna try this heat method since shes been detangled and washed by me a few months ago i just cant stand the dryness
What would you do if you had a beautiful Kirsten from 1986, with one of her eyes turning silver? I’m afraid to send it to the doll hospital, her eye wouldn’t be original anymore 😢
My daughter just brought home 2 second time shop dolls was lucky to get through the barbie hair but she got a bigger Disney one and im about ready to shave it 😂 im sure i wont and vest podcasts are Mr ballen or Rotten Mango both true crime though
Please make a video for restoring curly hair! 🫠Pleading shamelessly, because you have some of the best hair restoration videos I’ve seen. For example GOT26, MAG46/Gabriela, MAG58, TM67, 83, 85… I know you’re all about PC dolls, but literally NO ONE on AGTube has ever made a good video for fixing jacked up curly AG hair. Everyone just says to wet each curl and wind around a pencil, but that just doesn’t work when the curly hair is really jacked up it only works when the curls aren’t matted and frizzed up. I feel I’m missing some crucial information to successfully restore those curly wigs that are more often than not on dolls of color. They deserve so much better 🤗
i lost it at "i mean, her parents are dead, this really isn't her biggest problem." 😂 lmao, she looks great though!
🤣 thanks!

That's awesome, thanks! I hope you have fun restoring her!

Brooke absolutely sold me on this channel, and despite really not being into American Girl dolls, and this video was super entertaining to watch.
Thanks, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Brooke is awesome 🩵
Awsome job she is beautiful!
I have the hardest time getting curls to set.I have been wanting to restore my childhood 90s Samantha's hair. Love this restoration video. I would love to see more of these.
You might need a little more heat! Many more vids like this are on the way!

“This annoying little orphan” 🤣🤣🤣 love you!

I like what you did to Samantha. Maybe I will try it with my Samantha
What an amazing reclamation! You worked a miracle!
Excellent work!!! What is the temp for the flat iron set at?
Amazing. What a great job❤
I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! Amazing job on her :) Congrats on your find!
I've been waiting for this video! I got my Samantha's hair cleaned up and straightened, but need to get it in the updo and curled. This is so helpful! I even took her to the AG store doll salon and they didn't make it look acceptable to me. I will have to do it myself to do it right.

One of these days I will learn to enjoy the curling part, but the rest is fun!

It deeeefinitely helps speed up detangling, but I still refuse unless it's a doll meant for play heheh
STUNNING! Now I need to go rehab my daughter's kristen and samantha dolls! Hers are luckily not as bad so hopefully it won't take me 8 hrs on each one.
I think I missed it but what temperature is your straightener for this process?
It's a miracle!😯
🪄🎩
showing how you did the bangs was soo helpful!! ive been rehab-ing a pleasant company kirsten and her wig was ROUGH

Great job!!!
This is helpful in case i find a AG doll second hand.
I hope you find a good one!
I wonder if you could use a large waterproof bandaid over her eyes?
Mind blown 😮!!!!!!!!
this is amazing !!!! 😮
thank you! 🩵

Quick question, could you use de-tangling spray on doll hair?
Literally so much like combing my actual real thick as heck hair ... 😂 Knots are no joke.
AAA+ SHE LOOKS GREAT!!!!
Have you ever used baby Johnson tanglet
amazing!
Do you ever do willie wisher dolls?

Amazing! Great job! Sigh…, 21 AG/ pleasant company dolls and no white body… some day…😢
You'll get your white body before too long! Just keep watching eBay!
0:07 who knew Jonny had such great knocks?
🤭🤫
I highly recommend Twin Peaks, it's not for everyone though
Conditioner might've helped
I wish you could have heard my kids when you said Lord of the flies stand :dead: LMBO
