Hey I'm the first comment! My 2000 v10 has 356,000+ miles on it, original drivetrain and it's been my most reliable vehicle over the last 11 years. It may not be as powerful as a diseasel but maintenance is cheap and it does normal truck things for me.
Hey, thanks for commenting!! That's awesome! I'm glad it has treated you well over the years! "Diseasel" that's funny, never heard that one. Yep, for most people, a large gas engine is adequate, and simple. Stu recently got a killer deal on a Dually Cummins Ram, but he is holding onto the v10 and recently replaced tons of parts. Thanks so much for tuning in!! Hoping to have more videos coming soon!!!
Yeah I put a used v10 in my truck after mine blew up and it was only $1000 bucks and surprisingly not hard to install in a dirt driveway and a piece of plywood 6 quarts of oils is a lot cheaper than 15 as well
Yes that v10 is a beast make sure he holds on to it. I drive an 01 f250 with 120k on the dash great condition I was lucky to get it as my first car. I love everything about it except the gas prices rn.
Yep, definitely! The v10s are great, aside from gas consumption.. I'm glad yours is treating you well!! Let's hope for the best with gas prices.. Thanks a bunch for watching and commenting!! Have a great one!
Growing up we had a 2001 ford f150 5.4 V8 that my mom bought brand new, still have it today. About a week after my mother bought it, my father took it to work and brought home a way overweight dual rear wheel tractor (Not a cheap truck brand new). The job was to pull the trailer with the tractor on it up a hill on a highway much like this with no trailer brakes. The truck pulled unbelievably well, brakes were smoking a lot but ya can’t have everything! Lol. 23 years and 211,000 miles later, it’s still as much of a great truck as it was brand new. These tritons have their kinks, but they will never let down.
I had a 5.4 triton in my e250 van, was converted into a camper and was riding around very close to max payload all the time (8600gvw). These tritons make max HP near 5 grand. Driving around these passes in Utah and Colorado the trick was 2nd gear and wind it out! Had 3.73 gears. On cottonwood pass in Colorado I would have to run 1st, especially when towing my small snowmobile trailer. It had 230k when I sold it, ran super smooth and shifted flawlessly. Factory transmission cooling really makes a huge difference. Miss that gutless turd lol.
Nice!!! That's super heavy. I lived in a box truck for about a year once.. It had a Chevy 350 which performed admirably. Glad to hear that your van held-up to such beatings, haha. Great stuff. Thanks a ton for watching and commenting!!!
4:30 gears and a built converter really helps these trucks, been happy with my v10 no need for a diesel for what I tow and couldn’t justify the price tag!
From what I have found the trick with these v10 trucks is to regear. Mine is a 2wd with 4.56 gears in the rear end and on nasty hills and around 10k lbs I can get out of first gear. Before changing gears once it dropped to first because of traffic it didn't have enough power to get back into second. Also the SPD y pipe has made a huge difference to throttle response and it pulls much harder from mid range to redline even with a factory air box and exhaust.
Ahh, great info!! I'm glad it's working for you with that setup! Stu wound up switching to a Cummins Ram finally, and now he's not totally satisfied with that either, and wants to use a semi for everything. Haha! Thanks a bunch for watching!!
Hey thanks so much!! I just posted a new video of Stu hauling his new excavator home, and the truck is a major upgrade, haha. You should check it out! Thanks for tuning in!!
HAHA, well-said. It was definitely right at the limit. Luckily, Stu finally did buy a diesel, a nice Ram dually. Glad to have recorded this journey though. Thanks a bunch for watching!!
On highway and above 20-30mph these 6.8s actually pull better than stock 7.3s and 6.0s. There was a test done that found they put power to the ground more efficiently
@@halogod0298 thats fine, i dont blame you before i found out i didnt believe it either. Someone told me and showed me and i was genuinly suprised by it. But it makes sense on why they made it for so long and why they used them primarilty in larger vehicles particularly commercial vehicles. if i can find the artcile where they did the tests ill come back here and share it with you.
I was pulling 5k on my bed with a 2005 f250 5.4 , in a long up hill with traffic, like 7 years ago we give that truck to my wifes dad, we got it back this year, i was feeling great pulling things with it ( i got 2 7.3 powerstroke and a 5.9. Cummins) i like the long bed , i got no cats and a free flow exhaust, sounds great, any way un that hill my truck was dying , every stop it was hard to take off, even my gearbox got hot, i mean i putacelerate 100% and it even move, poor truck, find out the air filter was really dirty, they where using the wrong oil, gas filter dirty too, change it, and the old 5.4 likes to rev high now... Now i wish i got the v10.
23:49 😂 go back do it all again with the right bucket. Hey no joke using whatever u got. Pulling that wonky trailer brake like its a new truck exhaust brake. Then 4 low with the front hubs unlocked 😂 hey whatever works. That truck doesn't mind getting beat on. Hell of a trip
Haha, yeah luckily they made it work. I guess double-checking is never a bad idea, too! Thanks so much for tuning in!! Stu has a Cummins Ram now, so this is funny to look back on...
These 2v 6.8s are the only big block gassers ice seem go ocer 400k miles without a rebuild, if your take care of them they're amazing engines. I love mine.
I towed 10k with mine and it sounded nothing like this lol going up those hills it sounds like it’s gonna explode I would be very uncomfortable if mine did that. Hats off too you though
That would be a nice upgrade. Stu still has this truck but finally acquired a nice Cummins Ram dually to tow with, so he won't beat the v10 to death any longer, haha. I'll mention it to him though. A different rear end would've been nice on this day, definitely. Glad your truck has served you well and thanks for tuning in!!
Unfortunately it did change hands, but only to make way for a nice Cummins Ram dually! Had to happen, but I'm sure the v10 is thriving, and no longer being beaten like this, haha. I'd like to think a low-boost twin turbo v10 Ford could appear someday and do some hauling, who knows.. Thanks for watching!!!
True. They are great. Sadly, the powerstroke king, Bill Hewitt, just died a couple weeks ago. His videos on the powerstrokehelp youtube channel taught me a ton about those trucks.. The 6.8 on flat ground can pull 20+ they love to pull, if you get an 03/04 v10 and freshen it up they'll pull just about whatever you'd want. I went from 3:73 to 4:30 and went to a 6 spd and a tune and she's pulled 18.5 I'm in East Texas, we have hill but nothing too crazy. Truck had 0 issues.
