After having completed The Great Escape I was told that there was another similar game out there called Prisoner of War. This title is even older than The Great Escape and was released during the early days of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It mostly went under the radar with the general audience, but the game honestly does introduce some neat mechanics that don't work all that well because of lack of budget or time. It's yet another game that takes elements from Hitman and Metal Gear Solid where you have to perform certain tasks like acquire documents or guard outfits without being seen. The cool thing here however, is that the game has a daily schedule that you need to take into account and many of the objectives can be completed in different ways. The worst thing about the game definitely is the presentation with awful looking character models and really bad voice acting.

God I remember this game. Life was so much simpler back then...
Before 2019 everything seemed so much simpler! But miss the times around 90s and early 2000s the most!

This game was freakin' hard for its time. Remembring being in Stalag Luft without knowing what to actually do, not even knowing how I actually got there.
Always bought the three clues you get from each escapecommitee to get forward.

The reason I bought this game was because back in the day in a playstation magazine, there was an entire walkthrough for PoW. I read the guide numerous times and I really wanted to play the game!
How naive I was, thinking it would be a walk in the park... Still, it remains as one of my favorite games of all time!
Well it wasnt easy to escape from Stalag Luft in real life as well, so this game is kinda realistic :)
Bro you did it wrong. You were supposed to save, get the 3 hints, then reload the save, so it didn't affect your score 😂

This game was so good and cozy, too, you know with the weather effects and all. I love it to this day. And the attention to detail is still impressive! Ducks, birds and planes flying overhead, the clouds etc. Nice little world of its own. Love it!
Haha this is what I played in my childhood. Sometimes it just randomly crossed my mind, without knowing the name of the game. I never ended the game. But this is nostalgic to see! Great upload :D

Such a great game... I really wish they would make more of these on next generation systems.
I kinda dig the jank. Like the PS2 freezing for a split second right before a character speaks every line, or the occasional audio glitch like duck noises or snoring becoming very loud. The awful voicework almost feels intentional, like it is satire of old ww2 movies with actors faking accents. The games moments of deliberate and unintentional comedy also keep the mood light.
I remember playing this a lot when I was a teen, I remember reading guides and also doing challenge runs such as escaping the first camp with the kitbag, or escaping all camps in 5 days or less. I am sure there was also a challenge for not using disguises but I do not remember if that includes exceptions for things like calling the bombers in chapter 4 or not. There was also the 'cheat' that set you to always alert the guards even if you were doing nothing wrong, for added difficulty and challenge.

This masterpiece should release as a port to the Nintendo Switch or other platforms. I loved this game back in the days!

The one thing I remember from this game is getting the football off the roof in stalag luft, that will live with me forever
ah man such good memories playin this... it really made you feel like you were a prisoner especially in colditz sneaking out at night with bootpolish on your face haha and the soundtrack really got the nerves going

Thats how I ended up here! All this time I thought I had The Great Escape, but when I was watching a play through none of it seemed familiar so I searched "Early 2000's POW game" and ended up here.
I wonder if you played this game straight like a cooperative prisoner, and never tried to escape, hours after hours day after day week after week would the situation of the game ever change? Would prisoners come and go? Would the dialogue change? Would you eventually hear the allies getting closer coming to save you?
Bro this was a ps2 game haha nothing would have changed. Matter of fact i know it. I played this when i was a kid and i just did obey the rules for hours 😂

I was watching this yesterday when I came across this comment.. Just think, a year prior and halo: combat evolved had just hit shelves. probably the biggest game ever made. truly was a different time then.

Imagine this game had it come out with todays graphics and movement mechanics. This game should be remade. Same concept. No guns or kills. Just puzzles and pure stealth.

Quite unique game. Really liked the voices had so many different dialects. But it was too short unfortunately.
I remember the PS2 version of The Great Escape but this game's system gives off Resident Evil Vibes @3:47 minutes in the bunk save point and hiding place item storage I guess serves the same purpose as ink ribbons type writers and item boxes in the RE games.

My copy used to glitch sometimes, and it would occasionally say "choose your character" at the main menu. Just a title and a background shade, nothing else.
Always wondered what that cancelled mode was.

@@sean_69 It was very weird, and only used to appear once in a blue moon. It was a sort of sky looking background, same font and menu design, but just a title.
@@llewboy9973 , Maybe some of cut content? I remember there is some cover art disc that there is other version character beside Captain Stone (both pilot) with some German Guard if I remember correctly wear a gasmask.

Hello from Thessaloniki, in this game I'm having trouble at the point where it time skips from day to night after 40:00 minutes as you can see. As I follow the steps I am arrested by the guards with the flashlight. The specific point seems difficult to me.

I remember getting a scheme a long time ago but I got rid of it because I couldn't do it but I do not know how you did this game from the beginning to the end I did not know that the ending was very good when he escaped how did you escape from one camp in to another camp how did you get over a fence without the Germans seeing you I don't know how you did it you did it so fast you must be a genius glaciations to you you must know the game inside out I won't have the bottle to complete the game I completed games in the past but I couldn't complete that game because I wouldn't have the guts to carry on what very good from escaping and Finishing the Game I don't know how the hell you did it I wish they could make another game like that what show you by the screen how and which button do you press and how you can escape from the prison camp without the Germans seeing you that was very good if you ever played The Great Escape with Steve McQueen where I've seen the video and the game does not match the film that was the great escape with Steve McQueen when he's having a bit of fun with Germans he kicks to German and he gets caught in a wire fencing in the game itself he doesn't he escapes the man is Brian gets shot and a friend he gets caught what if you have a good look at the game against itself gameplay you see Steven McQueen in the cell bang bang bang the ball goes at the wall and the two German officers on going mental because of the noise of the ball that's what Steve McQueen does in a prison in The Great Escape what the game you are playing now called prison camp I wish that was in the great escape it could make it a bit more exciting ok it may not match the film but it could make it a bit more exciting find the person who the game called Great Escape and it must be a rockstar day I've got it up they have missed out certain important details the officers who escaped special in the man who escapes in a boat Charlie Bronson gets scared when he is on his tunnel and certain people officers who says trim that one German officer good luck and he says thank you East laptop because he shouldn't have spoken English if all of the action in the movie should be in the game I think the game must be better than ever but I think have you ever watched the gameplay on there now you see Steve McQueen holding a gun locking right at a German officer coming up is the cover on the game welder prison camp that is a good game but I couldn't play it what if you have a good lock at Great Escape it doesn't really matter the movie but it is prison camp has been in a movie like I do not know I think you've just done a good job very good you should be proud of yourself well done whoever you are you should give yourself a clap
I remember getting this game years and years after it came out, trying to phone the hints and tips Codemasters number which was in the book that came with the game. They never answered..

No, this is the Playstation 2 version. I actually also have the pc version, but that one was locked at a lower framerate for some reason. Seems the pc version is all wonky.

Did you play this on mouse? I tried playing on mouse but my camera rotation is very slow, game is unplayable even at max sensitivity. Xbox controller for me is also not working, I can only choose joystick which I do not have. Time to trash this game and watch it on yt.
