The only units known to have them were the 3rd parachute division, 84th Infantry Division, 1st SS Panzer and parts of the 275th Infantry Division which all showed up later in June or July. The core point of the German forces lacking in weapon variety throughout the game still stands however. 12:02: It is hard to tell due to how far away and low poly they are, but these aircraft might actually be B-26 Marauders and not C-47 Skytrains. They should still not be there at the games stated time though. 26:26: The Eagle is actually on the correct side for an SS uniform, this was a scripting error. Regardless, a Heer tank commander should still not have it, nor should he have the "Germania" Cuff title as this was an old title cuff for the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich". 41:35: I meant to say over 400 pounds here, not 4000. Hey Frosty, I wanted to talk to you about maybe collaborating on a video covering cod 2 back 2 fronts. I know you have other projects in progress, but I'd like to know if you are interested
One more thing. The paratroopers wear the very late war M1936 musette bags, with the little holder for the eqipment hooks. These were produced from 1944 only in OD#7 Green and rumors says there's only one photo of them being used in Okinawa. Alltough I did not see that photo yet.
Alot of the criticisms he makes are nitpicky. He also doesn't understand some of the "inaccuracies" that were intentionally made as part of the story like "The Pistol" and Muzza.
@@jamalwilburn228 really good point, I forgot the pistol was in this game, due to HH looking deeper at it, you hold a great point, but a bit pick is what makes one find small inaccuracies
In fairness to Legett, the pistol he has is later expanded upon in the future games, its not standard issue. It belonged Baker as a gift from his father but he gave it to legett. It becomes a subplot as some troopers believe it to be "cursed" as as everyone who used it died horribly
Correction though. The pistol was given to George Risner his best friend from high school. When Risner got shot after his Stuart tank and crew got killed. He dropped it to the left side which Allen picked it up. Then it got passed on to Garnett and finally Leggett
@guts-141 that's what it was, I haven't played in a while, story is foggy in my brain from 2nd to 3rd game *SPOILERS* So i remember what happened, after Risner died, Allen picked it up. He didn't die but near the end of the final game he was crippled from the waist down from artillery. When Garrett took the pistol, he was killed in a skirmish when Legett mentally shut down failing to assist his team, he among the Germans and friendlies was the only one to survive. Overcome with guilt during hill 40 while Taunting the Germans to kill him in a fit of rage believing baker was killed or knocked unconscious, began firing off the pistol and a tank shell bursted in front of him, killing him instantly.
I actually love the extras you unlock that give you the context behind all the missions. Having you play through missions inspired by real ones is an amazing feature. History Channel also had a documentary made in collaboration with the games
Finally you made video about Brothers in Arms! I'm from brothers in arma community and there's ongoing project called "BIA Expanded". We will try fix historical inaccurates and improve game as much as we can with remastered HD textures. Hopefully you will make video about our project when it's getting realised.
This game deserves a remake with modern technical capabilities and a larger amount of historical resources to fix discrepancies. Maybe Baker's squad of the 502nd being involved in everything could be retconned as a historically fictitious squad that comedically kept getting lost or having orders mixed up so they ran into a lot of battles they shouldn't have been involved in.
Would love that but I won't trust Ubisoft with remaking this with the company being crappy at their job and adhering to political BS. I hope they give the IP rights to a more competent company instead.
Some examples: - Jackal PDW (real life version Gepard PDW) was developed in 1995. - The Kompakt 92 (real life version FAMAE SAF) was produced from 1993. - USP 45 didn’t enter service until 1995. - Iraqi soldiers are incorrectly equipped with CETME model Ls and Jackal PDWs. - KSV (real life version SR-3 Vikhr) was first produced in 1995. - The song N.W.O by Ministry (1992 song) plays in a mission set in 1991. And possibly more…
Hey, I want to deeply thank you for what you have done. I, like many here, have a great deal of affection for the BiA series, and seeing the dedication you put into creating this video is something I really appreciate. I'm also impressed by the level of thorough detail you put into writing down inaccuracies, which is very helpful. It is possible to fix some of these details, both technical and visual, however, there are certain impediments that make it difficult to make 100% fixes. One of them is the inability to manipulate certain game files. Despite this, it's not an obstacle to trying to fix what can be fixed, and that's why this video is of great help to the small handful of fans interested in this great game. Thank you!
"I'm starting to think Baker is just imagining himself being in all these historical battles at this stage" That certainly aligns with the mentality of the men toward Baker in the sequels.
Correction: 2:11 - It wasn't an requirement to have 20/20 or 20/40 vision. Instead the people who had worse vision that weren't able to be corrected didn't serve on the front line as a paratrooper. It's was uncommon place to have a guy with glasses in a platoon but they still serve on the front line.
Indeed, there's even a famous photo of paratroopers from the 502nd posing for a photo with a Nazi flag, The paratrooper holding it, James Flanagan, wears glasses.
I think the Osttruppen just having K98s is accurate enough. They were 2nd rate troops and would certainly not get G43s and MP44s. Even the G43 was kinda rare.

Little thing here, the “ranking private” part is about how someone who has been the rank the longest is “ranking” one. If you have multiple people who are the same rank, generally the one who has been so the longest is the leader. This is proper delegation in the U.S Military by a higher ranking personnel member.
I noticed this too. In Canada we call it “Senior” whatever the rank is but the same applies. If the Sergeant is away and the Master Corporal is in charge, then the 2IC is whoever the Senior Corporal is available that day.
Realistically though, Hassey would have probably assigned one of the two Corporals that were there to lead Allen and Garnett "around the back" while Baker attacked the front with the rest. But they needed it to be Leggett so they could justify the drama that unfolds after he gets them killed.
2:32 well while it "very unlikely", in later story (Hell's Highway) it will reveal how he got THAT pistol and also, in the Hell's Highway, a large part of the game is also center around that pistol
@@tomaszskowronski1406the backstory of the cursed pistol already exist back when they develop the first game but got scrapped. They mentioned it in the days before the jump extras video where everyone are still in Britain, They just didn't turn it into nickel version until the third game but at least Modders managed to make it nickel plated version in ModDB
It is definitely the most historically authentic game I have ever played before so far, was good craic too. We made sure to express in the intro and outro that the game is still overall a good product and much better historically than most other games because of this.
I love this game so it's cool to see what they got wrong. Funny enough, the Hell's Highway novel actually retcons the Fallschirmjager into Dead Man's Corner, with one of them (who is a POV character in the book) being the one who kills George.
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out already, but 12:08 sir those are B-26 Marauders, not C-47s. The bombing point does still stand (though perhaps those are meant to be bombers on their way to another target?), but those are clearly not C-47s.
@@K-Nyne Really? Because I don't know if you've ever seen a C-47 from below, but it has a much greater wingspan, a sharper taper on the leading edge (and comparatively flat trailing edge), lack of full nacelles behind the engines (which is very apparent on the B-26), a low-mounted wing (these are clearly midwing aircraft, you can see the fuselage outline), the rudder doesn't stick out as much, and it obviously lacks any nose armament (which you can make out in the footage seen here). Overall, these aren't C-47s, clearly B-26s. I don't know if the file isn't visible or what but checking to identify the aircraft in question is a decent idea before making statements like that.
OMG, BROTHERS IN ARMS?! This was really unexpected, i love how this game's focus isn't actually run & gun, but more tactical and strategic since you're the squad leader But really, we still need a continuation after Hell's Highway, since that game kinda ends with a cliffhanger
That's hilarious that for all the times Frosty pointed out the lack of proper numbers of Kar98k's in WW2 video games, BiA has too many and not enough MP40s
I think the point is certain units like Waffen SS are equipped with a huge amount of STG44 instead of Kar98k for gameplay reasons, which is inaccurate, nevertheless.
Funniest thing is that the Mauser in the game is not even really modeled after the K98k. It looks like some south american / spanish / swedish version of it.
@@fritzVirginSteeler G33/40 is what I've come too although the front sight hood is too round and rear sight to wide. The handguard is correct tho for a G33/40.
Leggett's pistol is part of the story! He wasn't issued it. The pistol belonged to Matt's dad, who tried giving it to Matt, though his Mom wouldn't allow it. They separated, and he died holding it. It was later given to Geoege (Matt's lifelong best friend) who adied while assisting Matt's Squad. Garrnett picked up the pistol from George's corpse. Garnett, Allen, and Leggett were conducting a flank when Allen and Legett got into a loud scuffle that revealed their postions. Garnett was shot shot in th head holding the pistol, and Allen later died. Leggett picked up the gun and held onto it. He died while holding onto it, and Matt picked up the pistol and carried it throughout the next two games. Dawson pushes Matt into believing the pistol is cursed and that no one can carry it except Matt and is destined to die. Matt throws the pistol to show his squad its just a gun and we dont know what happens next cause Ubisoft never made a sequel!
You know what he has to defend himself? A rifle. Show me the photographic proof then, and please show me more than 2 or 3 pictures like most people do, if they even come up with any photo's.
7:19 As Osttruppen, they should have sleeve shields on their arms showing their nation of Origin (The photo you use of the Georgian Legion has their insignia present). they should also not have Chevrons, Chevrons and German rank insignia was not permitted to be used by osttruppen unless the unit had shown it deserved it. 8:20 and 8:30. No you shouldn't. No German units stationed in Normandy were equipped with G43 or MP43/STG at the time of the invasion, these all came later as units came to respond to the invasion. the only units known to have them were the 3. parachute division, 84th Infanterie Division, 1st SS Panzer and parts of the 275. Infanterie which all showed up later in June or July 34:33 The Luftwaffe never used A frame backpacks in any capacity, they literally could not attach to Luftwaffe equipment. The Luftwaffe had its own unique pattern of Y straps / Suspenders that did not have the metal rings that the A frame would hook onto (in this game they are incorrectly molded wearing Heer M39/M40 Y-straps 36:17 The use of the Panzerfaust 60 is incorrect, the 60 did not enter frontline use still September 1944, it should be a Panzerfaust 30K or Panzerfaust 30G
Thanks for the info, I shall include the correction in the pinned comment. Do you have a source for the units that used those weapons so that we can include these facts in later videos?
I wouldn’t call Leggett’s glasses inaccurate. Pictures of soldiers from airborne units prove that official medical requirements could be be omitted. Most known example of paratrooper wearing glasses would be PVT James "Jim" Flanagan, C/502, who seems to be visual inspiration for Leggett’s character.
I do think technical limitations should not be marked as an innaccuracy. While we can accknowledge such, it shouldn't be a mark against them. Remember, the game was a ps2 game and having all the game logic and all the enemies on map at the same time would make the experience unplayable. 1:01, you can't compare a system made in 2005 to systems in 2024. Back then ram was in MEGAbytes, we're in the multiple GIGAbytes age with that. And again, ps2 and Xbox original game. That would have just destroyed those systems.
@@K-Nyne Kinda, But you only led yourself in COD, it's way easier to do large scope when you're only one cog in the machine of random/pre scripted AI, and not actively leading a chunk/all of them. Both were shooters, but slightly different kind of shooters. They deliberately went for small scope so that you control the battle. Could they make it a full squad in each mission instead of 6 guys max? Yeah, but the way they made them rotate with story reasons (and deaths) was really clever.
Ah here we are with “Brothers In Arms”. We still got “BIA: Earned In Blood” and “BIA: Hells Highway”. On another note we were left with a cliffhanger on the last game and we never got to Battle of the Bulge.
I've never played this game but I'm really impressed that a game this old has accurately portrayed iron sights. For example: Instead of making the M1 Garand rear apeture comically large they make it blurry, and appears larger, which is what happens IRL when you look through an apeture sight.
Finally this historical review is here, thanks Frosty1, i really love BIA and i played all of the game in the series, even the exclusive for the PSP! it's probably the best gaming WW2 Series, for the hill 30 battle there is, in game files, a Model for Marder III, it was probably planned to be used as a more realistic option, but was probably scrapped because it is too lightly armored and has the rear and top not covered, the weapons, like not having MP-40 in the first mission of the game is probably because they wanted to have a progressive difficulty, because STG-44 are much better than K-98 and also because i think that the static division used mostly K-98, MP28 and other weapons and they probably haven't had time to model/add those, at the Ambush at Exit 4 Map i think the wrong time is to represent that we arrive at the beach after the landing, we only fight some retreating soldiers. Thank for the Video and for reading this.
"Still, we now know the identity of the unfortunate driver who gave his life at Dead Man’s Corner-Aaron D. Curry-and probably that of his tank commander-Anthony I. Tomasheski-as well. For over 70 years, the two men were mere statistics among the casualties from Normandy, but now their story and their sacrifice are at least a bit clearer, as is the story of Dead Man’s Corner." 'Solving the D-Day Mystery at “Dead Man’s Corner' by Niels Henkemans with Sean Claxton and Charles C. Roberts, Jr.
Baker had an M1 carbine because he lost his weapons bag dueing the jump. I think Hartsock did the same as well. This happened to many paratroopers during D-Day. They picked up random firearms and ammo. In EIB, Hartsock tells Marshall thar he picked up a BAR from a dead Glider trooper
Quit it already with that dumb "acquired" nonsense. Troops with Thompsons got them from the Company supply pool which was very limited. It's never explained how Baker suddenly has a Carbine or how he switches weapons so often, so that's still inaccurate.
@TheFrosty_1 yea but it's sad that the series had to end of course him, Steven Tan, Kingswood Studios, Morgan Riley aka The General Moe, and Aidan Hickey inspired me into wanting to do stop motion
Hey, i just wanted to say that you are one of my favorite channels for learning new things about history, and that you even bring a good laugh to me at times. I hope you have a good day with this message Also, is a black ops 6 inaccuracies video coming soon?
Thank You! I asked a year ago, put it in the discord and it came out months later, I hope you enjoyed playing BiA and play the sequels for the Inaccuracies!
Here's a fun fact, the P38, which is only found in the multiplayer did make its way to the single player in one instance from what i remember, which is in the PSP port, which combined Hill 30 and Earned in Blood, in the first level, one of the Ostruppen is equipped with it instead of the kar98 they usually have in the other versions, and it can be picked up and used.
Watching this and having the absolute nostalgia blast almost 17 years later is something I cannot describe thank you for bringing back the countless memories I had with my brother playing this trying to out tactic him in it. I love old Xbox gems being showcased and I hope that if you see this you could review the blazing angels series those games were by far my favorite back in the day and Id love your critique over them cheers!
To counter point one: this is from the POV of a squad. Reading Ed Shames' account of that battle, and others, the riflemen aren't totally aware of the rest of the action going on. People higher up the chain are, but for the riflemen, they're focused on their immediate action, and, imo, that is what the game is trying to show. Focusing on the squad (specific PIR not withstanding) and not the larger battle is perfect for this scenario. It gives the player (at least it did to me when I played) a feeling of immediacy, not worrying about anything outside of the immediate squad/platoon front since that is their responsibility. But that's such a minor thing which shows how well the game was done up. Could the BAR pouches may be an attempt at rigger pouches by the developers? Also, good catch on the glasses. While there were waiver or exemption forms (there are photos of paratroopers with glasses) those with glasses are such a minority. That's a pretty unknown tidbit, kudos on catching it. Also, the paratroopers are missing CC2 treatment on their uniforms which would make them darker, not the khaki shown in game.
While I get your point about the squad-perspective, it was rather immersion-breaking to me to not see any background troops along the rest of the line. Could have added something in at least. The BAR pouches aren't Riggers sadly, they're too long and there's always at least 6 on the belt while only 3 or 4 Riggers were usually worn. The CC2 is a weird one with these graphics. The uniform does look kind of stained and darker at times so I presumed they did include it. It's very hard to say. Thanks for the added info mate
You are correct, this was a scripting error we made. Regardless, a Heer tanker should not have any SS insignia, including the "Germania" Cuff Title which belonged to the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich".
IIRC the game kind of leveled up the different enemy types, and used their weapons and uniforms to signal such. The Osttruppen wore feldgrau uniforms with field caps and only used K98ks, then a few levels into the game you started fighting regular German infantry who wore helmets instead and also used MP40s along their static MG42. Then the SS Panzergrenadiers came a bit later with camo smocks and introduced the MP44, then the Fallschirmjäger came last wearing their unique helmets and jump smocks over their Luftwaffe uniforms. I also seem to remember the later enemy types being more aggressive trying to outflank you>
I would highly recommend taking a look at the indie game Easy Red 2. Despite not looking that graphically sound due to having a small dev team, it more than makes up for it with historical detail and covering relatively underrepresented fronts and factions during ww2, such as the Polish troops in Italy, Canadians in the Normandy DLC, etc.
Easy Red is pretty good historical wise in most things except the voice acting. Teams of all factions use natophonetic alphabet from the modern day (even the non english speaking factions, bafflingly, still use natophonetic and will say things like "alpha, bravo, charlie, etc".). They also use a lot of modern day evolutions of language instead of period accurate vocabulary, like japanese soldiers saying "okay", which modern japanese people do sometimes say in informal talk when they'd more likely say "wakatta" in 1940's japanese.
06:09 i would point out that this speech hardly make sense at this early in the game since on that DC3 are 14 mens but Pvt. Muzza die basically instantly when the AA hit the plane so his role is none it appears in the pre landing scene that was cut from the game and he can be put back in the squad with the SDK i think both Hartsock and Baker had vocal lines in case of Muzza leading a squad but never tried since my SDK broken :/ (also in either Earned In Blood or Hill 30 extras theres should be an extra with a letter of Muzza alongside Allen and Garnett which inclunding such real people at some extend is sad)
PLEASE DO AN OVERHAUL MOD FOR THIS LIKE YOU DID FOR COD 2 AND WAW! I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE THIS GAME BROUGHT CLOSER TO MODERN STANDARDS! THIS IS THE FIRST M RATED GAME I EVER PLAYED! Story time: My father bought this game for the playstation 2, before we went on vacation to Europe. I was 5 years old, but like literally only was interested in WW1/WW2 History, and guns, so I had an above average knowledge for my age to say the least. Dad of course, said I could not play it, or the other game he bought, another childhood favorite, Vietcong Purple Haze, but that didn't stop me. Later that same year I had the privilege of seeing these places in person, and then the year after, got to meet Bill Gurnaure and Babe Heffron from Easy Co. 506th PIR. Seriously, this game is like absolutely peak nostalgia for me. I want so bad to see it remastered.
Please don't draw too many eyes to my favorite game I just don't want company greed to ruin it so let's keep easy red between us fans the less eyes on it the less complaints people have
@@nick_plays22 This is really bad take. I'm sure the developers would love a larger player base and it should be enjoyed by as many as possible. Gatekeeping doesn't do anyone any favors.
4:31 actually, there is a fairly well known picture of a panzer IV Ausf.C in normandy 1944, although painted in a weird geometrical 2 tone camo and not flat panzergrey
According to Davidson (one of the researchers), that was an Ausf C alright, and it was knocked out in the British sector in August 1944. He explained that the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Panzer Regiment of the 21st Panzer Division, still had about six (depending on the sources) of the older Panzer IVs in use. So yeah, it should be rare in this theater and still very unlikely to appear in the American sector.
This game was one of my favorites of my whole childhood, overal Earned in Blood, I hope someone makes a mod to cover the historical inaccuracies, should bring the peak of realism that this game deserves.
OK, I’m not gonna lie. I did not see that coming when you were gonna do this inaccuracy about band of Brothers. I hope you report inaccuracy in both earned in blood and hell‘s Highway. There are plenty of inaccuracies in there as well.
Seeing BiA being represented in this vid format was a big suprise to say the least but a great one to see. Awesome work can't wait to see the new CoD (gods help us) and what Hell's Highway has in store
ok about the whalter p38 in the game if I'm not mistaken it does appear in campaign mode BUT only in the psp version of the game in the case of brothers in arms d day which was a collection with road to hill 30 and earned in blood but missing some missions but about the weapon I think it appears more or less in the first mission of the game or in the buying the farm mission or if not in some mission of earned in blood Just to make it clear I could be wrong too because I haven't played this version for a long time since I currently play the ps2 version and I could also be confusing it with another weapon which is the scoped k98 which only appears in the buying the farm mission I think it is also exclusive to this version
The scoped K98 appears only once in Hill30. Purple Heart Lane early below the Tannery. The P38 'pea-shooter' pistol is somewhat of an Easter egg. It can be found in four chapters of Earned In Blood. Cheers.
No sane soldier would underload their mags evenly by 10 whole bullets. Maybe by 1 or 2, but not one third of the entire mag capacity. It was clearly a mistake on the devs end
I've seen conflicting reports of rank insignias for private. Apparently even in modern day, the US marks privates with no chevrons. Yet in other sources it says they do have the single chevron. And private first class is one chevron with a downward arch like on a staff sergeant, and not just one chevron. Even in rank structure charts pertaining to this time period, the same inconsistencies are present.
It seems like you're confusing the different pay grades of "private". In the modern army there's a pay grade system for enlisted that goes from E-1 (lowest) to E-9 (highest) and there are 3 grades of private: E-1 private with no insignia E-2 private with one chevron pointing up E-3 private first class with a chevron and bottom rocker In WWII the pay grade system goes from grade 7 (lowest) to grade 1 (highest) Looking at my World War II era FM 21-100 Soldier's handbook, it is: Grade 7 Private with no insignia Grade 6 Private first class with one chevron. This is as it is presented in my original July 23, 1941 Soldier's handbook
I feel you'll have a more easier time going over Earned in Blood which corrected some of the things you've listed here, but still have inaccuracies as it predecessor
36:22 Early cumulative ammunition had a weak after-armor effect, which did not always lead to the destruction of the tank after penetration P.s thanks for the video
yes i have been waiting for this!!!!!!! i remember asking for this so long ago im so happy its here. also i reclicked my noti bell and this shit came out of nowhere lol
14:07 the breast eagle is shown to be an SS eagle rather than a Heer one. The same NCO is shown without any lining on the collar, which was standard for German NCOs
On the subject of Legget having a pistol at 2:34, the pistol he is using is actually Baker's pistol. If anyone is familar with the BIA lore, that pistol is an important piece of the story in both Road to Hill 30 and Hell's Highway.
@@K-Nyne It's a weird case. It was *intended* for Hill 30 (and you can see a bit of it in the cut prologue you can see online/by beating the game on the hardest difficulty.) but was cut last minute due to feeling out of place before being brought back in Hell's Highway. You can see George drop it (as he had it originally) then get picked up by Allen 'n Garnet then presumably taken by Legget.
@@samz8691 yeah I know, it's interesting. We chose to word it like this for educational purposes since the paratroopers did carry a lot less pistols than many people believe.
@@samz8691 yeah it was weird after playing the first two then playing the third game. Like I remember sitting in my seat and scratching my head thinking "when was this acknowledge?!"
From what i've heard the STG-44 was given to paratroopers in the first game because the FG-42 was not ready in time for release, it would be later added in the second game
Ost-truppen units may well have been denied a machine pistol due to lower equipment priority; on the other hand, the PPSh may have made an appearance as well. Only 3. Fallsch. and 1. SS-Panzer had notable stocks of MP44s, with some scattered into the ?278. Infanterie. Large stocks of ammunition were noted for LSSAH while at least one document details a TO&E of (among other weapons) two MP44s per squad of Fallschirmjagere. This was an ongoing discussion I had in the comments of a UsuallyHapless video; I’ll edit this comment with the video title when I get the chance.
@tomaszskowronski1406 The kicker is I don't even play! I'm a Company of Heroes (1) modder; Hapless' narration is a fantastic listen and makes for good background noise to boot (in the same vein as Oxy from War Thunder). CM nerds have a deeper understanding of niche topics and access to documentation than I do (service job from pre-dawn to post sunset) so for things like squad organization or what divisions were issued what weapons, they're a fantastic knowledge base beyond what I could learn browsing, say, bayonetstrength or BattleOrder.
Brothers In Arms in comparison to other FPS games is very dark in tone even more so than COD World At War, The horrors of warfare is shown in your eyes because Sgt Baker is seeing his squadmates frequently die in gruesome ways and is the reason why WWII in general was the darkest chapter in human history and it's horrors should not be repeated "War is when the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing eachother"- Niko Bellic
I would agree. It is by far one of the most authentic and realistic feeling WW2 games out there. It takes the theme seriously and does not shy away from showing things how they were and not be over dramatic with anything
@TheFrosty_1 Yup and I have a friend of mine August Caccavone who fought in the Battle Of The Bulge and he has still to this day has terrible memories of the campaign which would make sense since it was among the deadliest in American history, But thanks to their sacrifice they fought to prevent future wars and atrocities and also create better futures for their children
PSA to anyone who wants to try and play this game on PC: Play through it once and then, on subsequent playthroughs, use Rendroc's WarZone mod. It works for both Hill 30 and Earned in Blood and has a heap of great addons to make both games even more intense.
Using the Warzone mod that increases the US troops numbers made the battle in Purple Heart Lane & Cole's charge to be more accurate too. It's not just a dozen of guys but more running through the lane with large casualties
2:03 that's due to the game using a low viewmodel FOV and your monitor aspect ratio affecting the FOV. It looks much more natural if you play the game on 4:3
2:30 I'm not sure if I'm entirely correct, but within my circles everyone says radio ops had handguns -WW2 US Airborne reenactor (love the videos! Always happy when I see a new one pop up in feed) edit: 3:25 I've also heard that troops would sometime wear it like this for quick access during combat. Its definitely seen ALOT in reenacting around me, maybe the devs picked it up from photos of reenactors
Not to devalue you as a re-enactor, but 101st Airborne re-enactors are notorious for going farby to look cool, make stuff easier or pop off more blanks (with a pistol). I'm into the hobby myself and I've not seen another branch that's depicted si badly. So no I wouldn't trust a 101st re-enactors' word on this, we go off the original sources
In the mission "Ambush at Exit 4" Baker could've found an M1A1 Carbine off a dead paratrooper but that's my guess or the developers just didn't want to give him a Kar 98k or an MP40 from the previous mission. But my guess is the former.
Never have played this game, I may after watching this. Really good video as always. I was wondering of you'd ever look into the game Men of War, or its prequel Faces of War, they're RTS games but I'm curious about them and their accuracy. Aside from this, I was also wondering about Call of Duty 3, I don't doubt it's not too accurate, but I'd like to see a video, as it's my most favorite early day CoD.
If you get a chance to do Sniper Elite 5. Vogel is wearing a weird hybrid uniform. You see it’s a Heer Generals uniform with SS bolts and the rank of Obersturmbannführer (Lt. Colonel).
Some of these inaccuracies should've been struck as they were either engine limitations or things that *COULD* have happned even if they wern't standard.
This was so interesting, thank you for all the effort and research that went into this. I wanted to ask a couple of questions. Would you ever consider doing a video on Call of Duty 2: Big Red One? It's always struck me as one of the more authentic CoDs so it would be great to learn how true that is. The other is whether Road to Hill 30 is still worth playing these days? It passed me by when I was younger, which I regret as it looks great, just wondering how well it aged.
We do consider doing BRO at some point but it won't be very soon I think. I'm sorry to tell you it really isn't very accurate or authentic. Aside from that, yes, please play RtH30! Still a great game. The ambience and aesthetics are unmatched in my opinion. And now you can play it with the knowledge of the real history behind it so you might even appreciate it more

8:20: We have since been informed that no German units stationed in Normandy were actually equipped with the Gewehr 43 or STG 44 at the time of the invasion thus the recommendation for these weapons is not exactly valid.

One more thing. The paratroopers wear the very late war M1936 musette bags, with the little holder for the eqipment hooks. These were produced from 1944 only in OD#7 Green and rumors says there's only one photo of them being used in Okinawa. Alltough I did not see that photo yet.
Whoever was playing the game completely ignored the squad and suppression mechanics and just played it like a cod Rambo, shm...
You know the game is good when one of the biggest historical inaccuracy is that a mission starts 30 minutes too late.
haha yepp :)
And it's the first no less lol, I love this game, no matter how inaccurate it is
I was saying the same thing going into this video like it's gonna be webbing and times down to minutes is it
Alot of the criticisms he makes are nitpicky.
@guts-141 that's what it was, I haven't played in a while, story is foggy in my brain from 2nd to 3rd game
*SPOILERS*
So i remember what happened, after Risner died, Allen picked it up.
Leggett carries a pistol holster throughout the entire game, before he even touches that particular gun. So that's inaccurate
@@K-Nyneso is it a historical mistake for every Airborne to have pistol holster?
@@guts-141 absolutely, only very few would have them, mostly officers and not even all of them because they already had carbines

It also deserves a continuation after HH

- The Kompakt 92 (real life version FAMAE SAF) was produced from 1993.
- USP 45 didn’t enter service until 1995.
- Iraqi soldiers are incorrectly equipped with CETME model Ls and Jackal PDWs.
- KSV (real life version SR-3 Vikhr) was first produced in 1995.

Thank you!
Horraaay he saw your commentary!
"I'm starting to think Baker is just imagining himself being in all these historical battles at this stage"
That certainly aligns with the mentality of the men toward Baker in the sequels.
They still had at least 1 MP38 or MP40 per squad.

Yeah in Canada we call that the “Senior” Rank.
It’s like being “Senior Lance” in the Marines today.
2:32 well while it "very unlikely", in later story (Hell's Highway) it will reveal how he got THAT pistol
and also, in the Hell's Highway, a large part of the game is also center around that pistol

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out already, but 12:08 sir those are B-26 Marauders, not C-47s. The bombing point does still stand (though perhaps those are meant to be bombers on their way to another target?), but those are clearly not C-47s.
We searched the gamefiles. There's no Marauder model, only the C-47

I think the point is certain units like Waffen SS are equipped with a huge amount of STG44 instead of Kar98k for gameplay reasons, which is inaccurate, nevertheless.

A T/5 can definitely have a pistol as he must defend himself when operating the radio. There's lots of photographic proof
Infanterie which all showed up later in June or July
34:33 The Luftwaffe never used A frame backpacks in any capacity, they literally could not attach to Luftwaffe equipment. The Luftwaffe had its own unique pattern of Y straps / Suspenders that did not have the metal rings that the A frame would hook onto (in this game they are incorrectly molded wearing Heer M39/M40 Y-straps
36:17 The use of the Panzerfaust 60 is incorrect, the 60 did not enter frontline use still September 1944, it should be a Panzerfaust 30K or Panzerfaust 30G
Thanks for the info, I shall include the correction in the pinned comment. Do you have a source for the units that used those weapons so that we can include these facts in later videos?
Dan McBride killed a german and took his STG 44 on June 6. He called it a "Buck Roger's gun."
Glad to see someone else caught that. The picture of Flanagan wearing glasses on D-Day is a historically famous one.
CoD1 and 2 could do it in 2003 and 2005, so they could have found a way here too
@@K-Nyne Kinda, But you only led yourself in COD, it's way easier to do large scope when you're only one cog in the machine of random/pre scripted AI, and not actively leading a chunk/all of them.

The gods has blessed us with another great Frosty video!
I've never played this game but I'm really impressed that a game this old has accurately portrayed iron sights. For example:
Instead of making the M1 Garand rear apeture comically large they make it blurry, and appears larger, which is what happens IRL when you look through an apeture sight.

I love the idea (ironically to some degree) of Baker making up his whole story so he puts himself in EVERY major battle
Soldiers did just pick up random firearms sometimes. Have photo of junior NCOs with Thompsons and Pistols they definitely weren't issued, but acquired
Quit it already with that dumb "acquired" nonsense. Troops with Thompsons got them from the Company supply pool which was very limited. It's never explained how Baker suddenly has a Carbine or how he switches weapons so often, so that's still inaccurate.

I loved this game sooo much!!!! OMG thank you thank you
To counter point one: this is from the POV of a squad.
26:29 : Little Correction: The Eagle is on the correct side 😅
You are correct, this was a scripting error we made. Regardless, a Heer tanker should not have any SS insignia, including the "Germania" Cuff Title which belonged to the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich".
@TheFrosty_1 Of course, I was only pointing that out :)
even i was like "so where are the rest of the men?" when i played it at the time
IIRC the game kind of leveled up the different enemy types, and used their weapons and uniforms to signal such. I also seem to remember the later enemy types being more aggressive trying to outflank you>
Fallschirmjäger went before SS. Them and their FG42 appear in Buying the Farm, 11th mission, Panzergrenadier in Push into Carentan- 16th

The modding community is amazing as well
Er2 mentioned
Easy Red is pretty good historical wise in most things except the voice acting. Teams of all factions use natophonetic alphabet from the modern day (even the non english speaking factions, bafflingly, still use natophonetic and will say things like "alpha, bravo, charlie, etc".). They also use a lot of modern day evolutions of language instead of period accurate vocabulary, like japanese soldiers saying "okay", which modern japanese people do sometimes say in informal talk when they'd more likely say "wakatta" in 1940's japanese.

Still waiting for Delta Force Black Hawk Down. Both for PC and PS2.
2:27 They fixed this in Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway.
OK, I’m not gonna lie. I did not see that coming when you were gonna do this inaccuracy about band of Brothers. I hope you report inaccuracy in both earned in blood and hell‘s Highway. There are plenty of inaccuracies in there as well.
Thanks guys brothers in arms is one of my favorite ww2 games series
Cheers.
3:15 Not a great example considering you're looking at a Lieutenant Colonel.
Slight editing mistake, oops
Ya that was my bad, was not the best example but the point still stands.
1:43 some soldier usually never loaded their magazines to full capacity for the sake od keeping spring tension
No sane soldier would underload their mags evenly by 10 whole bullets. Maybe by 1 or 2, but not one third of the entire mag capacity. It was clearly a mistake on the devs end
@TheFrosty_1 tbh after rethinking that comment yeah you're right 😅
I've seen conflicting reports of rank insignias for private.
In the USMC Pvt. has no insignia. You only get a stripe once you hit PFC
In the army it’s PV1 or private no insignia then it goes to private with one chevron the PFC with a chevron and a downward arch
@@DavidLee-gm9tp FYI the downward arch is called a rocker
It seems like you're confusing the different pay grades of "private".
In the modern army there's a pay grade system for enlisted that goes from E-1 (lowest) to E-9 (highest) and there are 3 grades of private:
E-1 private with no insignia
E-2 private with one chevron pointing up
E-3 private first class with a chevron and bottom rocker
In WWII the pay grade system goes from grade 7 (lowest) to grade 1 (highest)
Looking at my World War II era FM 21-100 Soldier's handbook, it is:
Grade 7 Private with no insignia
Grade 6 Private first class with one chevron.
This is as it is presented in my original July 23, 1941 Soldier's handbook
@@Wisherperson I guess Gearbox confused modern chevrons with WWII ones. That makes sense.
I feel you'll have a more easier time going over Earned in Blood which corrected some of the things you've listed here, but still have inaccuracies as it predecessor
36:22 Early cumulative ammunition had a weak after-armor effect, which did not always lead to the destruction of the tank after penetration
P.s thanks for the video
yes i have been waiting for this!!!!!!! i remember asking for this so long ago im so happy its here.
also i reclicked my noti bell and this shit came out of nowhere lol
14:07 the breast eagle is shown to be an SS eagle rather than a Heer one. The same NCO is shown without any lining on the collar, which was standard for German NCOs
4:18 I like how the 2nd shot sent Hans ragdolling away.
On the subject of Legget having a pistol at 2:34, the pistol he is using is actually Baker's pistol. If anyone is familar with the BIA lore, that pistol is an important piece of the story in both Road to Hill 30 and Hell's Highway.
That's a plotpoint that was not present until Hell's Highway, so of no significance here
@@K-Nyne It's a weird case.
Wake up babe, Frosty just posted a new video.
Why am i not suprised to see Combat Mission nerds here? It's a small world after all
@tomaszskowronski1406 The kicker is I don't even play! I'm a Company of Heroes (1) modder; Hapless' narration is a fantastic listen and makes for good background noise to boot (in the same vein as Oxy from War Thunder).
CM nerds have a deeper understanding of niche topics and access to documentation than I do (service job from pre-dawn to post sunset) so for things like squad organization or what divisions were issued what weapons, they're a fantastic knowledge base beyond what I could learn browsing, say, bayonetstrength or BattleOrder.
we need hells highway reviewed!
I second this
Using the Warzone mod that increases the US troops numbers made the battle in Purple Heart Lane & Cole's charge to be more accurate too. It's not just a dozen of guys but more running through the lane with large casualties
lets go a new frosty vid
12:02
I think they're actually B26s, not C47s; the engines pass the rear of the wings, and the nose looks more pointed than a C47.
Always happy when I see a new one pop up in feed)
edit: 3:25 I've also heard that troops would sometime wear it like this for quick access during combat.
@@K-Nyne im actually a 505th 82nd reenactor, this is the practices held by 82nd reenactors
In the mission "Ambush at Exit 4" Baker could've found an M1A1 Carbine off a dead paratrooper but that's my guess or the developers just didn't want to give him a Kar 98k or an MP40 from the previous mission. But my guess is the former.
Whilst mods can show the game can handle more, Pcs and consoles when this game came out absolutely couldn't Not really a fair first inaccuracy.
Your videos are awesome.
EARNED IN BLOOD AND HELLS HIGHWAY NEXT !!! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
hey, you should do a next video correcting every historical inaccuracy in my favorite game franchise Company of heroes.
4:17 can we get an extra inaccuracy for the german solider who went flying after being shot
That is kinda just a game play physics thing that does not make sense and is not exactly a historical inaccuracy.
@@TheFrosty_1 ragdoll central lol
25:50 The stug III in the picture in the upper corner is also wrong lmao. In game the put the C variant but on picture the A variant?
Definitely do Darkest of Days in the future. I'd to see you analyze the mistakes in that game.
Please do BiA: hells highway next please! :)
Great ! I played on psp this game
And now you can play it with the knowledge of the real history behind it so you might even appreciate it more
Wake up babe the frosty 1 made another banger video. Can’t wait for bo6!👍
12:04 those are not C-47 transport aircraft. Those are B-26 Marauder bombers.
No Marauder model exists in the gamefiles
That might be true. But if you stop the footage and go and look up the B-26 Marauder. Then you will see that they are the exact same planes.
We'll have another look, thanks
@@K-Nyne your welcome.
Yes, the 26's have a distinct silouette.
