The crunching dried leaves under the tapping foot gives a preface beat for this magical flute music, If you ever have happened to be walking down a long windy stone road with troubles on your mind and you happened to come across this man playing his music you would stop and t think that you were in heaven, you would be correct, you would be heaven.
There is intelligence and spirit in his music. I have some difficulty with some of the electronic music and was looking for something good for my mind and the whole days quality of work. He's just what I was looking for. You don't go dully through your day with this- and people seem to catch the higher standard and even choose better words when talking or volunteer more constructive participation. They like themselve's better and you ( without knowing what influenced them). I'm a friend now! Thank you sir🐺
He's kind of putting the smart and the aliveness of thought into daily life, scattered around as a natural part of life- as was originally intended by this art. I suspect this garden will have a strong unexpected influence and grow .I find my thoughts improving in speed and personalness like a tuned instrument. I started taking musical instruments with me and just practicing to fill time- or sketching when I had a few minutes.
JUST got my first whistle. A mellow d. Am begining to learn right from the start, alone, from books and the internet. It's BEAUTIFUL instrument I have to say and this jig (?) Is truly inspiring.
@@ketilliland thank you too. Yes I will. I want to be able to busk a couple of nice tunes by the end of the year. Can you recommend any nice tunes that are simple to learn or any books/resources for the d whistle please?
Fine playing in a lovely setting, Ketil. Did you know Killarney makes brass Bb whistles as well now? I realized only yesterday and placed an order right away. Three weeks' waiting time. Counting the days. Yuletide will be extra grand this year.
Nice one man I love it. How’s the weight of that whistle feel to you? Someday I’ll get me a Killarney, for now my $12 Oak I’ve had for 15 yrs is my most played. Of all the instruments I’ve gotten into playing, the whistle is my favorite. I always have one with me. I love going into the woods and sitting on a log or stump and playing, with the notes bouncing off trees. I also enjoy hearing others play - there are so many slightly different ways to play the same tunes. I’ve been playing “The Kid on the Mountain” slip jig for about a week now and am obsessed. Keep tootin that thing man!
Thank you! There are probably many better versions you can learn from 😅 I have actually re-learned this tune since this recording and play it a little different now.
Hey! I REALLY love this, and I've been looking everywhere for the notes and tabs, but everything that's titled Killavil Jig sounds nothing like this... is there another name for this song? Or would you happen to have the tabs or notes? Beautiful playing :)
Hi! Thank you. I learned this version from a fiddle player I know. I agree that it is not similar to most versions of the Killavil. I have since this video changed up a bit how I play this tune 😊
@@asunraychan I dont remember, my version on this video is something I learned by ear. I have changed how I play it now actually 😊 Try to learn by ear or make your own "version"
Killarney is next on my order list. If you happen to know, is there any REAL difference in the sound between the nickel plated and the brass Killarney? I think the nickel one looks a little cooler, with the brass head in contrast to the body, but other than that I was wondering if it makes any difference.
Michael RS Thanks for listening! I have only owned the brass (in D and C) so actually I dont know. I will probably get the nickel soon also to compare.
I own a vintage brass and a nickel generation high D whistle. The core tone is very similar but the nickel is slightly brighter, more even and possibly more brittle, while the brass is warmer and a little more dynamic. I prefer the brass. The action is easier on the nickel somehow, but it’s probably mainly due to wear and tear. Maybe the different thickness around the holes has something to do with it too. The brass is significantly more worn and banged up as a whole. But it sounds sweet. So - not the same company but a note that may apply to other brands as well.
A commonly held view is that nickel is brighter, crispier, and that brass is softer, mellower. Some say the difference is negligible. I suppose, if there's a direct comparison, one might hear a difference, especially in the second octave. But, personally, if I just hear a tune, I'd be hard pressed to tell that it's a nickel (or brass). Besides possible tone difference, it seems to me that nickel is more slippery to the touch. Whether that goes for Killarney I don't know, as i only have brass Eb, D and C myself -- and soon a Bb. incidentally, the Bb only comes in brass, I think. Don't know if that's indicative of anything, or if it's just a matter of time.
@@lochlannlads2392 Well I have a brass and a nickel vintage generation High D. IN fact on the nickel side of things I have a full set of said generations. The difference in how they feel to play is as you describe, but I don't know how different they'd be on a recording. The nickel feels faster somehow, but I prefer the brass.

@@ketilliland , you are very welcome and thank you for the great joy that you give to others with your magic whistle and music
This is why I am trying to learn the whistle. Wonderful playing and setting!

I Gona learn that tune
yep, I'm off to find some info.
This version is a bit different from most versions of the Killavil jig. But it is a great tune either way!
awesome! i'm trying to learn this, i think i can work it out but kinda feels like a strange time signature

Lovely time for a brass whistle not to brassy in sound

@@ketilliland I have very little experienced in playing music. Learning by ear is quite challenged for me, but I will try. Thank you for your advice.

Sadly it doesn't sound like that when I play it oh well keep trying I guess.
