My favorite UA-camr is Catherine, from “Catherine Sews”. She has a fashion background, teaches high school fashion studies (Home Ec. In my day), and her channel is all about incorporating current trends in upcycling thrifted clothing.
Can't count how many times easy patterns have tripped me up! I think your dress is absolutely lovely, although the process wasn't fun. I've given up asking my husband what he thinks of things because I probably won't like the answer and don't want to put him on the spot 😁! For style trends I watch Dressed for My Day with Kay Harms and Your Guide to Style - not because I'm going to run out and buy things, but just to see what's new and for a bit of fun since I stopped buying fashion magazines about 40 years ago. Neither of them are sewing videos but you can glean a lot of ideas for sewing and styling tips from them.
I love Vivmom’s style. I watch several others for trends but I really don’t generally like trends. I was at a local theater play recently. As the audience filed in I saw countless women wearing flowing kimonos. I prefer to do my own thing usually.
So many great garment sewing youtubers- you, Sew Like Dotty, Thoughtful Creativity, My Bucolic Life, Joy Bernhardt, Knottygnome crafts, Manecoarse, Pattern Scout, Sharon Sews... Enjoyed your Jesus talk❤
Super pretty, Jen. I think the adjustments you made are fine! Love the 2 tone shoes, too. The pumps dress it up nicely. Your hard work really paid off.😊
Well, all the problem solving totally worked. Lovely, lovely dress 😍. I watch SO many You Tubers for inspiration- all of the ones others have mentioned also Carole and Adam and Izzy. Many other UK specific sewers too. Enjoy your thrifting with Trish. 😊 Lynne
Jen, your navy dress turned out SO pretty! Fits you perfectly. Sorry you had to go through so much trouble, but I sure learned a lot from your explanations. 😂 Thank you! ❤
Your linen dress is a classic piece! 😊love lots of Sewing UA-camrs like Yorkshire Sew Girl, Stitched Up, What Bec Sews, but my favourite for fashion tips is MM Personal Styling 😊
Jen: Dress is pretty; of course, I chuckled because something so simple turns into a challenge. I’ve been there too many times myself. I was going to sew a dress this week, then I talked myself out of it. I’ve got items that need tweaking, which I have yet to tweak🤣 I love to watch you and Gini, the Big Sew Along. I have learned more tips and tricks from you two than some others I used to follow, when they both were making videos: Sloths and Orchids and Cloth Edit. Both ladies can really sew and I was learning about different seam finishes. I have others I love and watch if they release a video.
I don't expend much energy checking out trends, and I have never had a personal style. I think I'm your dress turned out well and looks wonderful, Jen. Your fussing was ultimately worth it. I dislike the pattern envelope's cover drawings and would never have given it a second look. You have good discernment! (In deciding to pray in your night wakefulness, too). 💗 Kelly
That dress looks incredibly classy yet understated and I love the solid colour on you 💙. It fits to perfection so all your trials were worth it. I love the look of the denim dress, that pattern sure looks the copy of it and that's one of my favourite things to do, make a copy or something I see 😂. Have a wonderful time shopping with the gals, I'm so near yet so far aren't I! Big hugs to you all ❤xxx
The blue dress looks lovely on you, as does the striped skirt (without the extra pockets) from the previous video. Good on you for persevering! I’m not much of a fashionista - but I do like to see what patterns and fabrics you (of course!) and people like VivMomSews put together, which I wouldn’t previously have considered. Fabric and patterns are way more expensive here in the UK, plus I don’t have much sewing time, so I have to be selective. I’ve been doing appliquéd name banners for all the new babies in our extended family recently, which take a bit of time. Kind regards, as always, from Penny 🇬🇧😊💕
Your dress turned out beautiful! I learn so much from your videos. I have so many youtubers I love to watch. Whitney from TomKat Stitchery also has some great videos. She does videos on Sew the Looks. I've made a notebook of some of my favorite styles and fabrics to do Sew the Looks from. Now I just need to get busy!😂
Sometimes when I pray I become so emotional that I literally cry. It happens when I am giving thanks as well as when I am asking for forgiveness . . . equal opportunity, you know. Does that ever happen to you?
Yep, both last night! The thanking, the crying (I always cry, never fails), asking for forgiveness, thanking Him for saving me, praying desperately for kids and other family - talk about equal opportunity!
The dress came out so cute! I love it on you! Your 6901 is going to look so nice on you - can't wait to see it!! View B of that McCall's pattern looks spot on for your inspiration photo - great call Jen!
The dress looks great on you. I think I’m going to have to break down and get a new cutting board. Mine is just warping all over the place. Yes I pray daily over things that are going on in this world and in my family. I had a pretty good day today sewing. I’m not doing any housework during the 3 day holiday weekend other than cleaning up after meals. Just trying to enjoy the holidays. Would you believe we only have 2 months before we leave for our time down in Florida?
Nice dress, Jen! Looks great on you; fits you nicely. As for bad dreams, I've had many satanic-type of or evil dreams that have scared me crazy over the years. When these dreams happen, I pray while dreaming for Jesus to take this away and to protect me. Immediately I feel myself relax as the dream leaves my mind. In the morning, can't remember exactly what the dream was, but I do know that Jesus was faithful to clear my mind of the evilness and fear when I called on Him. Ironically, I had a dream last night of some people I haven't seen in decades. In the dream they were very mean and evil. I will keep them in prayer for God to soften their hearts and for them to return to Him. Move update: I'm currently unpacking and getting settled into my Palm Bay home. Been here 9 full days now. So much to do!!! Dori
I could, but I've actually ordered the dress from WM to just have a closer look at it. We'll see - but it will help me with where to cut it up. I think it will be fairly easy. And I don't think you'd get the same actual look because even if you use heavy jeans thread, you're only going through one layer of denim and I don't think you'd get the same look. You'd get close, but I doubt it would be the same. And I'm a perfectionist, so if there's any way to make it more difficult I am all in 😂😂😂
So interesting because I am watching your video at 4 am after a bad dream! Going to go pray now 😊 Seriously considering stopping not checking news anymore, so discouraging and distracting.
Silhouette patterns sells fabric and patterns that I have used over the years. Peggy Sager is the owner and she has many videos and monthly you tube presentations. She is very good.
the blue color of the Vogue dress really compliments your beautiful blue eyes and blonde hair. I am not impressed with the pattern illustrations and would have dismissed it totally as a choice, but after seeing the finished product, I have become “sold”. Love the verse…so very important to remember in this current political left-wing climate and as we pray for our families. Thank you for the reminder.
Before your adjustments, I thought the line from hip to hem was a little awkward. Your adjustments in the bodice side seams made it flow. Myself. I would have trashed it. I don't have your perseverance. Congratulations for saving the project. Kay in Dallas, Texas
When God wakes me I tell Him that he has my attention and I pray. Sometimes I just need to make myself available to Him on His schedule and not mine. I don't often remember dreams but I have had some involving my mother who passed away suddenly after a misdiagnosis 2 years ago. I miss her terribly.

Glad I'm not the only one who hates hand sewing x
The dress is awesome.
I like watching Karina at Lifting pins and needles.

Very nice elegant dress ❤
Your dress is beautiful and it looks great on you. Nice job on working out the issues you had while making it.
You made a great choice of fabric. I didn’t like the pattern when you showed it. But it’s really nice in that navy. Great job fixing it
I think the final product is classic and flattering. I like the fabric and color. I would love this dress for myself.

Great look. Persistence works out.
It looks elegant Jen. I wish I had your patience and level of perfectionism.

Instead of cutting up the shirtdress could you top stitch (faux) for the same style lines?

Sorry pretty.
Jen flared skirts are out of fashion..... Go loose with tiers... As for the denim dress in the picture try exact match.
