they both just slayed .... a true musical meeting between British and American Soul... and thanx to the uncomparable Genius of Prince for another Gem and Sinead O Connor for the inspiration of her rendition
Listen to Rod here he’s just absolutely amazing the raw emotion is off the scale He’s one of rocks greatest vocalists And Mary J you are just a one off, your voice makes my heart rate drop to zero You should both do an album together Some may see this as a sing off but it’s just pure emotion that bounces off each other
If you can’t appreciate the soul that Is bursting out from Mary’s rendition (e.g. azja666) then you can’t truly appreciate soul music. You have so much to look forward to. Love Rod! Love his voice. It’s an ode to the soul legends that he can be counted amongst, Otis, Sam Cooke, etc. Mary sings with attitude combined with deep soul. She’s dubbed the queen of hip-hop soul for a reason. Those final few bars of freestyle by Mary, I mean, nothing compares. Aretha woulda been proud o those riffs!
Respect your opinion, but completely disagree with it (normal right?! This is UA-cam). Great singer for sure, but for me her style doesn't really fit here... She looks like a The Voice participant oversinging to impress the judges.. On the other hand, Rod captured the song quite well!!
@@nadominhoca She sang it in a way that you didn’t appreciate. Fair enough. And the earlier point made was that you probably won’t get it. That’s a gospel church rendition - they “over sing” there too, but it comes from a deep place. Like Tina. You probably need it a bit more neat n tidy for you delicate drums 😄 But not appreciating the improvs throughout and especially at the end. You’re truly missing out.
Wow I mean wow look at you Rod deep down inside you got those rhythm and blues. Step aside Otis Redding Sam Cooke wow because they're inside of Rod on this particular event. What a voice I felt the power of music 🎶❤️🎶
I have always thought that Mary-J was one of the most over-hyped artists to ever live, *BUT HERE* she massively, massively lives up to, and far, far, far beyond every praise that has ever been said about her. I am a huge Rod Steward fan, since I was a teenager when his FIRST solo record came out, and most people posting here seem to think that Mr Stewart did a better job than Mary-J. Watching this, and trying to say either one was better than the other tells us much more about *YOU,* than it ever will say about either of these two singers.
This is the musical equivalent of a fistfight. I don’t know what was going on in either person’s mind at the time, but it’s really clear they both try it out sing each other. Int end it was a draw. And are we all lucky to witness??!!
@@terrellwilliams2240 Definitely not. Rod Stewart really captured the essence of the song and is just not yelling on the mic pretending to be a The Voice participant trying to impress the judges..
M.J.Blige massacred this song. First part was awesome, but lately she completly fly away. Lost meaning of this sad and beautiful song for show off herself. Rod do great.
